Welcoming, well-run, woodland glamping in rural Suffolk with various forms of quirky accommodation

Ever fancied a woodland glamping break in Suffolk? Picture a woodland of olive-green, riddled with paths and cycle trails; a rural English county of gentle hills and delightful villages; and finally, one of the UK's most significant archaeological sites just down the country lane. This, deep in the heart of charming Suffolk, is West Stow Pods – a welcoming, well-run operation that offers hassle-free glamping in the most serene of surroundings.

The site, in total, has four distinctive MegaPods, each surprisingly roomy, sleeping a family of four comfortably (a couple on the double bed and two on a fold-out sofa); two Woodland Lodges and Pod Hollow, the site's very own Hobbit Hole.

MegaPods feature en-suite wetrooms and compact kitchens, while the newer lodges (built to keep up with all the frequently returning glampers) feature two separate bedrooms and a kitchen and dining space. Outside, the mobile BBQ allows you to slope off into the trees if you fancy frazzling your sausages in a more densely wooded setting or to soak up the sun on the south-facing veranda. If you really want a hideaway in the woods, meanwhile, West Stow Pods’ latest addition is the immensely quirky “Pod Hollow”, a subterranean dwelling, suitable for up to four people. Designed with Tolkien in mind, it's perfect for your very own Middle-Earth Adventure.

A combination of sea, sky and woodland vistas make Suffolk a beautiful place to visit. You may have to pinch yourself to remember that this rural, some might say sleepy county once operated a string of thriving ports. Today, the Stour Valley impresses with its pretty villages, filled with fancy churches and timber-framed houses. Nearby Bury St Edmunds (five miles) is also worth a visit, with its compelling past and spirited present, all visible in the varied architecture and pleasant, independent-shop-dotted streets. The real draw of this site, though, lies in its far more immediate surrounds, nestled amongst the trees in an idyllic woodland wonderland it offers the perfect place to kick back and enjoy the birds, along with an abundance of walking and cycling from your podstep.
