The Grove Glamping

UK England East Anglia Norfolk Sheringham & Cromer

Five comfortably-furnished yurts, proper beds and bedding and warming wood-burning stoves, all 5 minutes walk from the beach

If The Grove's walls could talk, you'd be hard-pressed to shut them up. Dating back to the 1790s, this charming country house on the North Norfolk coast has a history as rich and varied as the county itself. From its origins as a home to 18th-century Quakers to a wartime base for army officers en route to the battlefields of Europe, The Grove has seen it all. But its current incarnarnation as a guesthouse dates back to 1935, when Norfolk natives Robert and Hilda Graveling rented the house and its seven lovely acres. Nothwithstanding the inevitable interruption of the war years, The Grove has been welcoming guests ever since. And now with three generations of the Graveling family having helmed the hotel, The Grove's next chapter as one of the English east coast's most sought after glamping experiences has just begun.

Starting life as a regular summer pop-up for exclusive hire, The Grove Glamping has proved such a success that it seemed darn-right silly not to share this unspoilt spot with the legions of other coast-bound-campers. The established site now sits within a tranquil clearing just a toddle from the main guesthouse. Comprising five comfortably-furnished yurts, proper beds and bedding and warming wood-burning stoves are the order of the day here. Congenial keeper-of-the-camp Ruth Graveling has implemented lots of helpful touches to ensure a hassle-free holiday – bespoke food hampers (BBQ? Breakfast? The choice is yours), firepits with kitchen tripod; hammocks; each yurt even boasts low wattage 240-volt electricity courtesy of solar panels, so you can charge your phone to keep radio-contact with reality (though why you'd want to in a setting as scenic as this is beyond us).

Away from your canvas commune, the sophisticated surroundings of The Grove guesthouse are free for glampers to enjoy. The heated indoor swimming pool is perfect for a rainy-day dip if the conditions at the nearby beach prove too treacherous, while The Grove's award-winning restaurant is an institution in its own right. Showcasing the best of Norfolk's plentitude of produce, it's clear to see the AA's two rosette's were well-earned. Much of the magnificent dishes are sourced straight from The Grove's salubrious garden, orchard and poly-tunnels – a legacy of the wartime call to 'Dig for Victory'. While the restaurant's gorgeous oak-panelled Georgian dining rooms are perfect for a refined evening meal, they make for an equally relaxed setting for a leisurely morning's breakfast.

Suitably sated, glampers can then get down to the pressing business of exploring the best the Norfolk coast has to offer. With a private path linking the grounds through the enchanting Warren Woods to the dramatic cliff top at Cromer, guests are never far from that authentic Norfolk experience.

Loved it...we will be back!!

We stayed in July last year, and loved it, we love camping anyway but this was one step better with a proper bed- it was so comfy and there was plenty of room for a 18 month old and newborn. On arrival we were given all the information we needed and the staff we so warm and welcoming. The fact we could also go swimming every day at The Grove's indoor pool was brilliant! There are woodburners in the tents and I was a little sad not to need to use them as we were so fortunate with the weather. The beach was only a ten minute walk which was brilliant and so easy to get to with the children. We will be booking next year for sure!! Thanks you Grove Glamping! xx

Earlier this year we attended The Grove for our first Glamping experience and we were not disappointed. We took our 1 year old son with us and so had some reservations and wondered if it would all work out. But we needn't have because it was a truly wonderful holiday. The tents were beautiful and the space inside them for all of our stuff, travel cot etc was great. The bed was incredibly comfortable and we had excellent sleep. As for the other features and equipment in the tent, everything you needed was there. The presentation of all of the items in a vintage suitcase was a superb creative touch and made for a fun holiday. The outside decking area for cooking and eating was also laid out brilliantly as was the communal eating/fire pit where you could cook paella, for example, in a large dish. Not only were all the facilities great, the location was perfect too and enjoying a short walk to the beach was a real pleasure. WE LOVED OUR TIME AWAY GLAMPING!

What a break!

My wife and I went to The Grove for a whole week to give Glamping a go. I am a big fan of camping and also breaks away in hotels. This was the perfect in between holiday! We were incredibly lucky with the weather. On arrival we were given everything we needed to know in a pack and any other questions could be asked to the very welcoming staff in the hotel. We were then left to it. The grounds are well kept and not far away from the garden where most of the vegetables used in the hotel restaurant are grown. The toilet, shower and washing up area are kept clean and tidy. The beds were so comfortable and the bedding was obviously not cheap. We took 2 children with us and both of them slept through both nights. Having the comfort of a bed while being able to hear the faint sounds of the great outdoors was a treat. Everything you could ever wish for was provided in the inventory from plates and cutlery to pans to cook with over the open fire pits (we did a great chicken and chorizo paella over the pit). The wood burning stove was not needed during our stay as it was so warm anyway but to have that as an option means that I would come back at any time of the year. The other great things with this glamping site is having the use of the indoor pool and being so close to the beach!

I will be returning next year! What a brilliant experience!

The Grove , Cromer

We came along in the summer holidays for a few nights and loved our cosy time in the bell tents toasting marshmallows in the evening.  We made total use of the indoor pool, the facilities were more than adequate, clean and warm and tidy - the pool was lovely and well looked after. A little pathway in the woods took us straight to the beach and the children felt quite safe exploring the beautiful surroundings.

We made some great memories and the kids are already talking about 'when we go back'.

The staff were really friendly, nothing was too much trouble and they made us feel very welcome.
