About halfway along the stretch of road from Haverfordwest (Hwlffordd) to St David's, the road takes a steep dive down to the coast, to the stunning beach that is Newgale (Niwgwl). Surfers, kayakers, windsurfers and kite-surfers dot the bright water, while families spread out on the sand. And the campsite where many of these people hang out is in a large field, 30 seconds across the road. With such a proximity, the location is pure heaven on a hot sunny day. The campsite itself is basic - a largely flat, virtually treeless field. A low bank separates it from the adjoining A487. But there’s a great surfer vibe in the evenings – and if you don’t have any of the kit and fancy a go, you can hire everything you need from the Newsurf Beach Shop next to the site. And when the weather’s fine and you can see the sea shimmering from your pitch, it’s that proximity to the golden delights of the beautiful Pembrokeshire Coast that sees people coming back for more, year after year.
