Question: Back in
2011, which destination did National Geographic vote as the second best coastal
vacation in the world, beating the likes of Costa Rica, Bermuda, and the Seychelles? Unforeseen
answer: Pembrokeshire.
The
Pembrokeshire Coast Path National Trail snakes its way across 186 miles of some
of the most magnificent coastal scenery in the whole of Europe. From Amroth in
the south, to St Dogmaels in the north, the route covers almost every kind of seaside
landscape – from silky sand beaches and jagged cliff-tops to twisting estuaries and
sheltered coves – making Pembrokeshire a Shangri-La for any camper.
Less
than four miles from the trail is Florence Springs, an eco-friendly glampsite that's within easy
access of all the fresh-air-filled activities western Wales has to offer. For those seeking a wholly isolated site, perhaps Florence Springs isn't for you. The site sits next door to Heatherton World of Activities, a popular leisure park with go-karts, zip-wires, zorbs, and bumper boats; understandably not an ideal neighbour for the more traditional camper. That said, Florence Springs does manage to retain a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere.
Each luxurious Mongolian style yurt (there are 4 onsite) come furnished to a high standard. A snug double
bed and two fold-out futons are provided for sleeping, sitting, and lounging.
There’s also a log burner, table & chairs, outdoor/undercover kitchen, compost
toilet, private gardens (which gets muddy in winter), and stargazing
benches. If you'd rather peg down the nylon, Florence Springs has three premium tent pitches with your own picnic table, all-weather cooking area, and fire-pit.
For
all you anglers there are two private fishing lakes on site. Guests can catch their supper (or attempt to!), and then cook it to perfection on their very own BBQ
underneath the starry Welsh skies. Not a bad way to end a perfect Pembrokeshire
day.
