Camping and glamping catered for on a working farm.

First time campers? The family not bowled over by the idea of a weekend camping in rural Wales? Then Dews Lake Farm might be the ideal choice for your first under-canvas foray. The site provides pitches for ‘traditional campers’ and ‘glampers’ alike on a friendly, authentic working farm teeming with wildlife and countryside character. Tucked away in sleepy Pembrokeshire, yet still conveniently close to the regions finest sights (including Manorbier Castle & Freshwater East Beach), Dews Lake Farm is the perfect choice for campers wanting to enjoy the wonders of Western Wales and its remarkably unspoilt landscapes.

The site's welcoming owner Bethan is also behind Cwtch Camping, a fabulous eco-pod retreat in nearby Rosemarket, so it’s fair to say she knows a thing or two about running a successful campsite. Upon arrival you realise everything here is relaxed and pretty low-key. There’s no designated pitches, just rock up and find your corner of tranquillity. You’ll find decent facilities here too with pipping hot showers, 16-amp electric hook-up points (for caravans) and handy phone charging stations.

Dews Lake’s patch of flat green farmland sits only six miles from the loveable bucket-and-spade town of Tenby. Many literary greats such as Roald Dahl, Jane Austen and Beatrix Potter have taken inspiration from its elegant white Georgian mansions, glorious hilltop views and traditional fishing village feel. Today, Tenby is a postcard-maker's dream and delights visitors who stroll leisurely through its medieval streets lined with cosy pubs, quirky gift shops and tempting ice-cream parlours.

As luck would have it, Dews Lake is also on the doorstep of one of Europe’s finest beaches, Barafundle Bay. Reached after an invigorating half-hour cliff-top trek, the immaculate, golden sands and turquoise blue waters give it a paradisiac feeling, often drawing comparisons to the Caribbean. Out of season you often have the place to yourself, apart from a few brave surfers who tackle the choppy Irish Sea. From Barafundle, take a delightful little stroll to Bosherston lily ponds. The best time to visit is in late spring or summer when the lilies are in flower and become home to an eclectic array of wildlife, including otters, swans, herons, dragonflies and 'robbing' robins who won't hesitate to pinch food right out of your hands.

The Owner Says

(info supplied by the campsite)

Dewslake Farm is a very relaxed campsite in a rural location just outside Lamphey village which boasts a pub, restaurant, general store/garage, hotel with swimming pool and spa facilities, the ruins of the Bishops Palace and "the best bakery on the planet" Mr White's Bakery. It's a short drive from the coastline or for the keen walkers among you a "not that far at all". We are situated on the Iron Man cycling route (route 4) making us very popular with touring cyclist. We have only recently opened the site and we keep seeing the same faces time and time again which is really reassuring that guests that stay with us like it and keep coming back. The feed back we are getting is that there is plenty of space for the children to run around, Frisbee, kite flying, football and cricket are a common site in the middle of the camping field with campers opting to pitch up on the flatter perimeter we even offer free use of our hula hoops. We have one field with electric hook ups and camping cabins and the second field is non electric which is more of a free for all, vehicles are only allowed onto the camping field to set up and take down (unless you are a camper van and your vehicle is your accommodation) allowing children to be free range and games to continue without worrying about cars. We are a working farm so you may have a heard of cows in a neighboring field and to the delight of all little boys, tractors! The campsite is 6 acres as part of a 150 acre farm so there is uninterrupted countryside views bordering the National Park. There are no additional charges for our hot water showers and use of the communal kitchen with fridge, freezer, hob, kettle and washing up area. Campfires are allowed in fire pits (so the grass doesn't scorch) and we sell basket of logs and kindling on site. Well behaved dogs are very welcome with the majority of local beaches having no dog restrictions.

Great getaway!

This campsite was perfect for what we were looking for. It's simple but has all the camping essentials you need - electricity if required plus hot (NB!) showers and toilets which are kept clean and stocked up, even though we visited on a very busy Easter weekend. There were some bell tents too which could be hired which looked lovely and while we were there some fisherman's huts were being built too, which looked very cute and I'd be tempted to head back again to try these! There was a little festival on the grounds while we were there which created a nice atmosphere. The campsite is a short drive to the beach and nearby towns but a car is a must around here. We'll hopefully return soon!

Wonderful Relaxing Campsite

This is a wonderful campsite, relaxing, friendly, laid back and beautiful. The cars stay in the car park rule leads to a laid back vibe, with kids and families running around and enjoying the open spaces. The showers manage to be both powerful and hot (you usually get one or the other in my experience) and the kitchen has fridges, freezers and a kettle - again rarely found. The coastal path is a couple of miles away (as is the nearest beach) and the village is 10 minutes walk away. I can't recommend this campsite enough - I will certainly be back

Fantastic Site

Both me and my boyfriend loved this site. We visited for the Ironman in near by Tenby and luckily managed to watch the cycle route go right past the site. The facilities on the site were superb! The toilets and showers were always clean and well stocked with soap and toilet roll. The kitchen area was also clean and well stocked with a kettle, toaster and a hob.

We will definitely be returning to the site in the future and will also recommend it to friends.

Dews Lake Farm

I'm glad I found this little island of calm close to some of the most beautiful coastline in GB.

I stayed for a (mostly dry) week during early September 2015, pitching up in my small campervan with awning alongside. Although the site slopes along three sides forming a sort of arena it is possible to find relatively level pitches all around. When I arrived, the Shepherds Huts and a few Bell Tents were occupied along with a few tent campers spread amongst  the three available fields, the site was quiet and everyone friendly. The facilities were clean with plenty of loo paper and hot showers; the kitchen useful complete with fridges, freezers, kettles, hob and sinks. Bethan runs a relaxed but well managed site, I didn't get the name of the guy who was erecting/dismantling bell tents, etc., but he was friendly and helpful and Bethan's dad is both pleasant and sociable.

For me, a big plus was that  just 10 minutes walk down the lane (past the pub / reasonable food) into the village and you arrive at the bus stop and railway station with regular buses into Tenby (£3.90 adult single / 30 minutes) and regular trains into Tenby (£3.50 adult single / 16 minutes) one way and Pembroke (less than 5 minutes) the other. Also in the village are the bakery and a couple of hotels with food/drink plus a petrol station with well stocked Spar shop.

Having my bicycle with me, I enjoyed good rides around the area along quiet lanes and enjoying breathtaking views and numerous cafes, welcome stops after conquering the occasional 1 in 6 climbs!

Dews Lake Farm

We have just returned from a fab week at Dews Lake.  Large pitches, friendly, relaxed staff and lots of space in the centre of the field for the kids to run around in.  The showers were awesome and the kitchen/fridge/hob set up is a nice touch too, as are the fire pits.  The site is well located for exploring beaches and castles - we will definitely be returning!

Lovely campsite

An excellent place for a few days relaxed camping.  We arrived and managed to pitch our tent just before a six day long heavy rain shower but we were exceptionally pleased with the site.  A more than adequate number of showers and loos available which in general were hot and clean and without queues - even with a number of overly ambitious hen doers in Wellys and heavy mascara (I wish I had been the one to invent waterproof makeup as I would have made a killing!!).  All of the staff and campers were friendly and relaxed adding to the lovely views (even through the rain) making this a gem of a site.

Nice

A great campsite and lots of space in August . Tents well spaced apart but the no noise rule seemed to be a little slack as the tent opposite actually had amplified films coming from their tent in the next field . However it did stop quite early . Chilled out vibe but be aware there is a road at the back of the field ... To the left .. Loos need a bit of a clean but showers were incredibly hot .. . And great use of fire pits . Good for dawgs too my two loved it

Dews Lake Farm has everything - a laid-back feel, roomy pitches, lots of room to run around, and best of all - fire pits for hire.  It really takes care of those hours when it's getting dark but it's too early for bed, which can be tough in a tent when you're trying to play card games with an inadequate light.  Camping wouldn't be camping without a campfire and marshmallows to toast!

We found all the facilities more than adequate - hot showers (no extra charge), never a queue for the loo, and a very well appointed kitchen.  When we were there a takeaway van set up stall for the weekend, and there was also a daily visit from an ice cream van (it was quite entertaining to watch it bonging its optimistic way around the three fields during a rainstorm of biblical proportions!)

Location-wise it is perfect - our teenagers loved Heathertons and Oakwood, both only 20 minutes' drive away, and Tenby is within easy driving distance.  We also drove out to Freshwater West where there is an excellent surfing beach (and incredibly managed to park for free on the road right next to the beach).

If I could change just one thing it would be to add a plug socket somewhere in the loo block so those of us with non-electric pitches could use a hairdryer.  There is power in the kitchen, but I didn't think people cooking would appreciate me doing my hair in there!  It's not a gripe though: this is an excellent campsite, and one I would definitely stay at again.

Lovely chilled out site

We've just returned from a lovely bank holiday weekend at Dews Lake. The site has a really nice, relaxed atmosphere and we really enjoyed our stay. There were lots of family groups staying with kids which can sometimes be annoying if you don't have any but as we were staying on the non-electric field we could choose our own pitch away from any screaming children which was great. There is plenty of space and even though the site was busy it didn't feel cramped. It was lovely just to sit out in the evening and being able to hire a fire pit was fun and added to the atmosphere. The facilities were good, although one sink for washing up meant you did have to wait around sometimes. The hot water ran out quite a lot too, which did unfortunately mean cold showers most days. Location couldn't have been better and it was great not to drive too far to get anywhere. Overall a brilliant weekend and we would definitely stay at Dews Lake again.

Great Campsite

My husband and I just spent the weekend at Dews Lake and what a great place to stay. The washing facilities were great, luvly warm showers and the kitchen provisions were also great.  This is a very clean well run site and we will definitely be returning.

We have just had a very happy stay at this very pretty, relaxed and friendly campsite. We had a pitch in the electric hook-up field and I loved the fact that once we had unloaded and set- up our stuff, and the car was back in the car park, all the children from round the edge of the field got together and played and ran about in the middle of the field safely and happily - free hula hoops and balls were available. The permanent camping cabins looked lovely too. Didn't see inside the Bell Tents in the non-electric field but spoke to someone staying in one and they were loving it.

It is a great set-up. Bethan (camp owner) is really friendly, helpful & responsive (people previously had lamented lack of showers and now there are double the amount (tip: the ones in the loos always seem to have hot water whereas the ones in new block sometimes run out!; and when we mentioned we would really have found it useful to have access to a freezer for cooling our ice-blocks, Beth said she was about to plug one in and true to her word it was on the go in the kitchen area later that day!

The kitchen is a top spot with additional crockery / cutlery / pans provided for those who have forgotten anything. Also on offer, spare bin bags, recycling bags, local info, and a communal fridge to keep your milk/ butter / wine/beer etc cold. (Washing machine also available).

The location is great too - v near Pembroke, Tenby and heaps of amazingly gorgeous beaches: we went to Barafundle (good sand & swimming, beautiful beach but 25min walk from car park; Broadhaven (our favourite - great sand, sea & rock-pooling); Manorbier (great rock-pooling & rock- collecting); Freshwater East, Wisemans Bridge etc. loads of great castles around too - Carew Castle was lovely. Also good boat trips from Tenby - mackerel fishing, Caldey Island etc.

We rented/borrowed a fire pit and toasted marshmallows - and felt v lucky with sensational weather until Hurricane Bertha hit UK and rained (and blew) heavily on our parade the night before and day we left. We have fallen in love with Pembrokeshire and would definitely come back to Dews Lake again. It was fab!

Can't think of anything we didn't really like - fellow campers were a friendly bunch. Only thing was cold showers but par for the course when camping occasionally.

Top tenting!

Holiday fever kicked in as soon as we stepped onto the site. The site looked lovely with bell tents, caravans and small huts, surrounded by endless greenery. The spacious and relaxed nature of the camp site meant we were able to sit out and enjoy the Pembrokeshire sunshine without even feeling the need to jet off out and around the county. Although it was not far to venture out to some beautiful spots and beaches. We were able to cycle to a nearby beach and the adjoining village itself was very quaint and friendly. I recommend taking the local cruiser bus that goes through the village, we were able to stop at several beaches throughout the day by hopping on this service as it takes you right along the coastline. Lunch and diner options were easy to access from the bus stops, we had a fantastic locally sourced lunch from the Cafe Mor stall on the breezy surfing beach of Freshwater West.

Relaxing little campsite

A fab find, away from the hustle and bustle of the busy well trodden tourist path and yet a short distance from Bosherston, (the best beach ever) Barafundle and Tenby. We enjoyed cycling into the Lamphey village for freshly baked bread from Mr White's Bakery. Dewslake Farm is on cycle route 4 perfect for exploring Pembrokeshire. The site is basic but had everything we needed, hot showers, plenty of space, campfires, beautiful views there is even a kitchen area where we had use of a fridge, kettle and washing up area. The owners were friendly and helpful and everywhere on site was kept clean. We will be back!
