There’s something utterly charming about Ceredigion's One Cat Farm. Hidden down a narrow lane, this year-round, eco-glamping spot comprises just four unique 'camping dens' set amidst a three acre meadow, all set within an enchanting wooded valley.
Hosts Jessie and Lyndon are hospitality personified. Tea, coffee, freshly-baked bread, and the warmest of welcomes await guests on arrival. After parking up, grabbing a wheelbarrow and trundling down through the lush field, guests can't fail to be wowed by their new home. These tiny-timbered-tent-cabins blend effortlessly into the surroundings with their timber cladding and turf roofs. Inside, the simple yet inviting decor has a distinctly Nordic feel, with plywood walls, furniture and super comfy beds with crisp, hotel linen and sprung mattresses.
These all-weather alternatives to the traditional camping holiday come insulated, double-glazed and with full electricity. Outside all the camping neccesities are provided – picnic tables, hammocks and campfire pits for cooking. There’s also an exceptionally well-equipped communal kitchen area (just a 30 second walk away) housed in the former pig shed, complete with hot water, 4-ring gas hobs, and a huge fridge. Basic essentials are provided along with cook books to inspire you. And if you forgot your dinner (or want to treat yourself) there is a small shop selling some nibbles to tuck into a picnic.
On rainy days, the pig shed really comes into its own, serving as a central hub for guests. A huge dining table encourages more sociable guests to get to know one another over dinner, while the sofa and wood burner provide a cosy cwtch to snuggle up with a book.
Facilities-wise, there's a pair of proper flushing loss and twin showers, plus two private wood-fired outdoor bathtubs. Stargazing doesn't get much better than this as you soak away in the steaming tub spotting constellations in the pristine night sky.
It’s the setting,
however, that really sets this place apart. Sheep, cattle and horses dot the
surrounding countryside, while the campsite itself is home to a pair of ponds,
with dragonflies zipping overhead and fish shimmering beneath the surface. Red kites are never far away too and are regularly seen circling over the site. There are two excellent nature reserves within a half
hour drive, while Cardigan Bay, three miles away, is one of the best places in
the world to see dolphins. It’s not a bad spot for simply lounging on the beach
either.
