Pick up a tourist brochure or guide book to this part of Wales and, chances are, it’ll feature a picture of Three Cliffs Bay on the cover. And justifiably so. It’s indisputably one of the finest beaches on the Gower Peninsula, with an almost round sandy beach encircled by unique rock formations. A series of limestone peaks rises dramatically into the air, finally disappearing into the Bristol Channel like a retreating monster. It’s a distinctive silhouette that has led to claims that this is the ‘best view in Wales’ and the ‘most beautiful bay in Britain’, but whatever you want to call it, there’s no denying it’s a bit special.
As luck would have it, a campsite perches on the high ground behind the beach, quietly taking it all in. Three Cliffs Bay Caravan Park, also known as North Hills Farm Campsite, has been in the Beynon family since 1951, although back then it was sheep and cattle that had the benefit of the views. Five acres of the 150-acre farm are now set aside for camping, providing just enough space for 100 families to camp in peak summer season; although, the popularity of the site means that the summer months are not the best time to go.
There are other drawbacks, too – the sloping ground, the fact that not all the pitches have views and the occasional whipping wind that screeches in from the sea and blows unprepared campers around the site. However, if you’re lucky enough to get one of the pitches at the edge nearest the bay, you’ve certainly acquired one of Europe’s finest camping spots. And even if you don’t get a view from your tent, the beach itself makes staying here worthwhile.
The campsite is a highly organised affair. Two onsite wardens keep things in check and the facilities block, a study in 1970s chic with brown-tiled interior and pebbledash exterior, is well maintained. The key to the new family room is closely guarded, but can be borrowed on production of suitably aged children. Pitches are arranged neatly in rows, with caravans to one side of the field, tents to the other, and a separate field is used as a spacious kids’ play area for most of the year as well as for additional camping during the busier summer holidays.
No matter how many photos you might see of Three Cliffs Bay, none can match the beauty and majesty of the real thing. Come and experience it for yourself. And, don’t forget your camera.

Three Cliffs Bay Campsite August 2015
I cannot praise this campsite more highly. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Spotless toilets and shower blocks. Well maintained pitches. The absolute highlight has got to be the view and subsequently the beach. Hours of fun on the dunes and in the rock-pools. 3 blissful nights = family camping perfection. Longing to return already!!
Have just returned from a great week at Three Cliffs campsite. If you can cope with the cliff incline the view is well worth it although they do have a flatter more sheltered field if you prefer that. Our children loved the hill and ended up playing football, doing roley poleys, gymnastics with all the other children they made friends with. The facilities are excellent especially the new shower block, loads of washing up sinks and all very clean. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Beach not too far a walk away. Just driving out of the campsite to go home and the children already asked if they could come back!
First time camping
First time camping and we couldn't have picked a better camp site, the views speak for themselves just look at the pics. The staff are so friendly and when they heard that it was our first time camping they made sure that everything was right with the tent and advised on the pitch. We took our dogs with us and they had a ball running around the dog friendly beach and mixing with others. The shop is well stocked and reasonable priced as they could have made a killing, we will defiantly be returning and the wife is converted to camping!!
A great site. Fantastic views; we were camped right on the cliff edge (it's really a steep grassy slope so perfectly safe!). Toilets and showers immaculate, shop well stocked with essentials. It is a fair trek to the nearest pub so take your own wine and relax with the view. Highly recommended.
Wales at its best!
Beautiful campsite.. Spent a lovely weekend overlooking the best view in Wales. Always really tidy with clean pitches and facilities and a short 10 minute walk down to beach and lots of other walks nearby, including lovely stroll to Oxwich in the sunshine. Great for families, groups and couples alike. The family who owned it were incredibly helpful and friendly. All in all, If there is a better campsite, we are yet to go there!
The view is breathtaking and the site takes full advantage of its surroundings. The facilities are of a really good standard, very clean and well tended. Walk to the beach can be tricky with little ones and took us about 15 minutes but well worth the trip. We will visit again next year and have recommended to friends.
Lovely setting on top of cliffs overlooking Rhosilli Bay, which has been voted one of teh best beaches in the world. The site has good facilities, and the site owners are very helpful. A short walk to the beach but quite steep
Lovely well kept camp site. As we live a short distance away we only stayed the one night. The fields were clean and tidy with a short distance to the tap and very clean toilet block. The other fields which mostly housed caravans or tents on a steep slope had the majestic views of the "Three Cliffs".
There is a well stocked shop on site, selling most things which you may have forgotten!
The walk down to the beach is a typical cliff walk so something more study than flip flops advised. If you want to take a few drinks snacks, blanket and towels etc. than a small bag pack rather than bags would be an advantage.
The beach is stunning. First met with stepping stones and whilst we were there a small herd of cows. Despite the beauty of the beach, because of it's location at the bottom of the cliff, it was not at all crowded.
Had it not been for my husband braking his ankle there whilst doing football tricks, we would definitely consider a return. However I fear it may be a while before we do venture back.
Great site, marvellous views
Myself and my partner stayed here for two gloriously sunny days and nights in July. The site wasn't too busy (it was during the week and kids were at school). We had a great spot just on the edge overlooking the bay. It wasn't windy at all (I think we were probably lucky). there are plenty of toilets, showers and washing up sinks so when we went it wasn't an issue (all were very clean). It is heck of a walk back up from the beach but worth it as it's lovely to be close and be able to sunbath. There is a pub and shop not too much of a walk away. Wardens on site all the time and very helpful and knowledgeable about the local area. Its probably a little more expensive than some sites (we paid £46 for the two of us for two nights) but for the views it is worth it. There's a little shop on site which sells the basics and although this is expensive it is handy for anything you have forgotten. Highly recommended (particularly when the children are at school and the site is quieter).
what a view!
We stayed at this beautiful spot during the summer holidays last year and were blessed with mostly beautiful weather to enjoy it in. That said, even on the blowy wet days it was a spectacular spot - although we were glad of our sturdy tent! We pitched in the hillside field with great view (you can also choose the flat field in the valley behind- we heard reports that this was a bit raucous but probably what you'd expect in the height of summer) and didn't regret it despite waking each morning to find both children having rolled into a heap on top of us in the night! I think ours was one of the most sloped pitches but we had the advantage of the hedge behind us to provide some shelter from the wind. Tents are only pitched around the edge of this field, leaving a large open area in the middle which the children loved using for games of cricket & catch the flag with the gaggle of friends they had made. The beach was simply stunning (and we are hard to please being from Dorset, an area full of award winning beaches!) with a combination of golden sand and rock pools to explore around the headland...amazingly it rarely seemed busy. It was a rocky 10-15minute walk from the campsite but well worth it, alhough watch out for the tide which comes in extremely fast. Plenty to do in the area; definitely worth checking out the indoor Waterpark in Swansea if you have kids. I'm just booking up this years summer camping trip and I am really tempted just to return to this beautiful spot!
My partner and I stumbled on this campsite. We were in for a very pleasant surprise. The views are stunning - you can wake up to a magnificent sea view overlooking Three Cliffs Bay and the neighbouring Oxwich Bay. The facilities are great and include a handy laundry room, a shop, a hot sink, friendly staff and very clean showers/rest rooms. The wardens are really friendly and helpful. We liked it so much that we went back for a whole week the second time. I am looking forward to being there!
At peak times, it can get very busy and space on the cliff can be limited. However, even then, I felt grateful for waking up to one of the most magnificent views in Wales.
stunning scenery! really nice and well kept space.
Three Cliffs Bay Caravan Park
Stayed here twice now - and it really is a friendly and well maintained site. The views to the beach below are difficult to beat anywhere in the UK - and the steep walk up and down are well worth it. Definitely a site we will returrn to ...
Beware tides - as the stepping stones across the river to the beach are covered and impossible to safely navigate at high tide.
Great site but a couple of drawbacks
