A tiny, family-friendly campsite boasting bell tents and shepherds huts on the southern Pembrokeshire coast

Plotted within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, Becks Bay Camping sits just 100m from the famous coastal path, overlooking the eponymous cove known locally as Becks Bay. In almost every direction the land folds away in a mass of summer green, while the nearest roads are all shielded by the bushiest of hedgerows. It’s no surprise that, though small, this sheltered meadow space was destined to become a campsite. It almost seems purpose built for it.

In total, Becks Bay has just 13 camping pitches, along with five bell tents pitched on flat ground in a tiny wooded glade. There is no electricity, no playground and certainly no WiFi, while the toilets and showers have been newly built into a wooden shed, bodged together with charmingly mismatched wooden doors. The whole place feels thoroughly rustic and, despite proper flushing loos, still offers the wilder camping experience. This is the sort of spot where children play in rolling fields rather than a playground and campfires crackle through the night. Expect a week or two getting grass stains out of trousers when you get home.

For those with who prefer their camping with a generous dose of luxury, the Frankshore Shepherd’s Hut come complete with electricity, a proper bed and en suite bathroom. Mod cons – like gas hobs in the kitchenette and a heated towel-rail – up the comfort levels, while traditional touches like the wood-burning stove makes this a cosy cocoon for couples.

When the sun's out, there are plenty of beaches within reach with Lydstep Bay the nearest and most well known. The National Trust car park is free and the sands offer excellent views out to Caldey Island, though the giant holiday park that backs it slightly spoils the feel. Instead, head a little east to Penally Beach (free parking at the station) in the west end of Tenby’s mile-long south beach. Spanning the shoreline from St. Catherine's Island to Giltar Point, the views across to Caldey Island are spectacular. It’s slightly quieter than the sandy sections immediately around the town – Castle Beach, Harbour Beach and the north beach – though all are fantastic, especially if you want to explore Tenby itself at some point during your stay. You can spend the morning on a beach, the afternoon tasting ice creams and the evening back around the campfire. We think that’s all the essentials covered.

Hot showers, flushing toilets and a washing up area. No electrical hook-ups. Campfires and BBQs permitted. The private shepherd's hut has a double bed, wood-burning stove, gas hobs, table, chairs and fitted double bed (bedding included). It's fully en suite – hot shower and eco-loo – and connected to mains electricity. Campfires permitted outside and BBQ provided.

Suitable For

Tents, campervans, dogs – yes. Caravans and motor homes – no. The shepherds hut is best for couples but there is room for an infant (additional cot possible). Dogs are also permitted in the hut.

The campsite is right on the edge of Pembrokeshire Coast National Park with easy access to footpaths, including trails down to the nearest beaches where you can link up with the famous coastal trail. The Manorbier peninsular offers some of the most secluded sandy beaches both east and west of the main surf beach – Precipe and Swan Lake Bay are particular local favourites. Nearby Tenby is an excellent old walled town to visit, with a harbour and expansive beaches at low tide. For something non-beach related, though, drive five miles south west to Manorbier Castle (01834 871394) a Norman keep located in the a beautiful old village. The curtain walls and round and square towers are now partially ruined but well worth a visit. Along with the castle, there are also gardens, a dovecote and mill to explore. For more organised family fun, it's five miles to Heatherton World of Activities (01646 652000), with archery, trampolining, soft play and more.

Food & Drink

Waves Italian restaurant (01834 870085). The bright blue painted Cross Inn (01834 844665) in Penally is a mile away and has a fantastic, traditional, seaside pub atmosphere. The Plantagenet (01834 842350) in Tenby is a high-end option set in a romantic 10th century building, the oldest in town. Stroll across the meadow to Bubbleton Farm Shop & Café (07929 334826) on site while the Lydstep Tavern (01834 871521) is not too far beyond.

Early April–end of October. Shepherds hut open all year.

Family Friendly

If you like your camping small-scale and simple, then Becks Bay is, as Mary Poppins wold say, 'practically perfect in every way'. There's loads of spaces but very few pitches and the beach is within spitting distance. Don't spit though. Mary Poppins wouldn't like that.

The Owner Says

Welcome! Becks Bay Camping is set next to an isolated cove just 1 mile West of Tenby’s South Beach and a ten minute walk to the stunning Lydstep Bay. The field is set in an amazing location in the grounds of the ancient ruin called Trussleton. We are passionate about providing a perfect place to camp for a real welsh adventure holiday.

The camping fields are adjacent to the Pembrokeshire Coast Path on a working farm – we have produce for sale in our Farm shop (Bubbleton Farm Shop) and also sell fresh eggs, potatoes etc from an honesty table near the camping field.

Our site is a short distance from Penally village (with train station and shop), and a 2 minute walk to the coolest new music café bar in Tenby – West Coast Café and Arts.

On our doorstep we have a catalogue of Wales’s best beaches – we encourage you to explore the coast path especially the Manorbier peninsular and ancient village.

Super Chilled

I think you can judge a campsite by how few aggressive signs there are. I counted exactly zero! The site is in a great spot, and everything we needed was available, all done in an upcycled-sustainable-cool style. We loved our stay and would happily go back.

Response from Becks Bay Campsite

Haha - thanks Ross - that's my favourite review this year - i love running Becks Bay - customers make it such a joy - defo no need for strict rules..... enjoy the rest of your summer!

What a gorgeous site...

What can I say about this place, so so lovely - loads of space for the children, amazing location, lovely rustic facilities, recycling everything, fab farm shop and cafe over the fields. The children LOVED the hammock and hammock swing, just perfect - we will definitely be back, thank you Becks Bay xxx

Camp Site 2021

Becks Bay is perfectly situated for ease of access via short drives to surrounding beaches. One beach is a 20 minute cliff top walk which was enjoyed by my 8 year old son and his 9 year old cousin. The campsite delivered what it said on the tin! The green experience, beautiful views, on a working farm, fire pits, excellent recycling facilities. Toilets, showers clean and well maintained. The camping field is separated from the farm and Bubblteton farm shop/cafe (served fab food) which for us was ideal. The two children in our camping party enjoyed seeing and feeding the animals. The camp site was clean, well maintained, I felt the benefit of the site being small as everyone was friendly and respectful of the camp site requests. Tom and all staff at the farm shop and cafe were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The children played freely in the camp field, enjoying the swing, hammock and made instant friends. We all particularly enjoyed the last night at the pizza and wine night at Bubbleton cafe with the live music and hay bales. I would highly recommend this camping experience ❤️. Thanks Becks Bay. 👍👍👍👍👍

A truly lovely place!

Fantastic campsite with a very chilled, laid back atmosphere thanks to the owners. Small and super friendly. Our kids ran off and made friends instantly. Lots of hammocks and swings to play on. Pizza oven for use with a rock table and seating, which was great fun. Plenty of water points, toilets and showers. Great recycling facilities too. Across a field there is an amazing Farm shop and cafe with incredible cakes and a great breakfast and lunch menu. The Welsh Rarebit was delicious. Nice meat and veg too. Cafe closed in the evenings but they have a night where caterers come in and put on a big communal bbq. There are some pigs, sheep and hens for the kids to pet and feed too. We were all very sad to leave.

Response from Becks Bay Campsite

Thanks Isabell! It was our pleasure - hope you and the boys can come stay again. Enjoy the rest of your summer x

Great Campsite Great Owner

Facilitys are great and the beach is nice and close.

Summer sun and fun

A great campsite. Friendly and relaxed, Tom was always on hand if needed. Lots of space to run and play. Lovely hot showers and a great for walking along the coast path. Recommended!

Beautifully peaceful, eco friendly campsite with walks from the tent

Quirky, spacious, peacully quiet, considerate site

Beautiful space, minutes walk from the coastal path.

Very eco-friendly but without being overbearing, the small campsite is minutes away from the beautiful coastal path that takes you all the way in to Tenby in about an hour. Loads of great spots to sit along the way and enjoy a beer and a picnic overlooking the sea. Facilities are good, there is more than one toilet and shower, don't be fooled. Pizza oven would have been fun if it weren't for the 70 mile an hour winds.

Hey Leonie,

Thanks for taking the time to review and well done enjoying the stormy conditions. Hope to see you again.

Kind regards

Great camping spot

Location is perfect, so close to the coastal path and you can take a nice walk into Tenby. Bubbleton farm shop close by for local produce. Campsite facilities were well maintained & very clean & good area for recycling waste. Tom was very welcoming & helpful. Good firewood available for a decent price. Nice chilled laidback vibe at this campsite. Unfortunately didn’t have time to try the pizza oven onsite, but maybe next time :)

10/10 location!

This place was great, the coastal path is just a one minute walk away and it's absolutely beautiful. The walk to Tenby is amazing. What is also nice to that despite feeling very remote and quiet theres lots of food/drink options within walking distance (if you like to hike), the Bubbleton Farm Shop (5 min walk) is also really good. One thing I would say though is prepare for wind. It can get seriously windy if a storm rolls in off the coast. I suppose all of Pembrokeshire is like this to some extent though.

Delightful location and facilities

Had a wonderful stay at Beck's Bay in May 2021. Everything was done in line with COVID rules. All facilities of a great standard and very clean. Tom was welcoming and made sure we had a great stay. The location near the farm shop and the coastal path made the trip. Also a short drive or longer walk to Tenby. Would recommend!

Wonderful campsite

We would recommend this site to anyone who likes uncomplicated camping. We stayed in a campervan, pitches were spacious and a firepit if you wanted to use it. Logs could be pre ordered. The owner was very friendly and the camp farm shop well worth a visit for provisions to cook yourself or to use as a cafe. The Welsh breakfast was amazing. The toilets and showers were simple, very clean with plenty of hot water. The recycling system for waste was very well thought out and easy to use. The site is a few 100 yards off the Pembrokeshire coastal path so ideal location for walkers and short drives to some incredible beaches. We would definitely stay here again and will recommend it to friends and family.

Beautiful Becks Bay!

We stayed in our campervan. Pretty level sites, well spaced, with fire pits. Simple but spotless loos, showers, washing up and recycling facilities. Just one field from the coast path or, in the other direction, great breakfasts st Bubbleton Farm Shop. Did all our shopping at the farm shop, beautiful steak and Local and Welsh Produce. If we get to Wales again - it’s a long way from the east coast - we will definitely be back! Make sure you add it to your list 😁

Awesome find!

Great campsite in a stunning quiet location almost a stone's throw from the coastal park! Tom the friendly owner keeps a clean campsite with the great bonus of Bubbleton farm just a short walk away..selling great breakfast and coffee. Other essentials like wood for fires, eggs, bread and veg are also sold at the farm. Great spot, highly recommended!

Fantastic place to stay!

A really lovely campsite, plenty of room between you and others and wonderful scenery. A short 2-3 minute walk to join the coast path which can take you to a lovely dog-friendly beach or the other way to a beach but dog restrictions apply. I came here alone, just me and my dog and felt completely safe. Tom was around in the day if you needed him and was very friendly. The toilet/ shower facilities were always clean and tidy. Tenby is a short drive around 5-10 mins or Saundersfoot around 15-20 mins. I would recommend this place to everyone, families, couples or solo travellers - stay here and you won't be disappointed.

Clean and tidy with loads of space

The site was in a perfect location with fantastic views of the countryside and a short stroll to the coast. The shop which is about a 5 minutes walk was really good for supplies. The site is fantastic for walking along the coastal path which lead’s to Tenby. All in all we had a lovely time and would revisit, also thanks to Tom who was always on hand.

Great location, would recommend

Awesome find, neat site, plenty of space between pitches & coastal path literally 3min walk with epic views. We opted for a Welsh Breakfast whilst booking, best decision ever as genuinely stunning local produce & perfect portion size. Tom was a great host, toilets & showers were clean & comfortable. Would definitely recommend.

A real gem of a place in an incredible location.

We staying at Becks Bay for 4 days with our two young children. The campsite was clean and quiet with very good facilities. The location is just incredible. A few minutes walk across a field to the dramatic cliffs and stunning coastline/coastal path, or to the campsite’s associated farm shop with its delicious breakfast and lunch menu. Tom couldn’t have been more helpful bringing us milk and logs after the farm shop had closed and recommending some excellent walks and beaches close by. The coastline around here - between Tenby and Stackpole - is the best I’ve seen in the UK - dramatic, unspoilt, lush, breathtaking and abundant with nature. We walked for miles and spent time at some gorgeous coves and expansive sandy beaches - they were all so amazing yet quiet and the water is clear and perfect for kids. To top it off there are several fantastic pubs close by as well as an excellent choice in nearby Tenby too. We will certainly be back.

Charming Becks Bay

We liked charming Becks Bay Campsite with its handwritten signs, especially the one that said 'relax', and recycled building materials, its closeness to beautiful coast and the walk through the field to the Farm Shop to enjoy Welsh breakfast or to buy a tasty loaf of bread. It was nice in the evenings to watch and smell the campfires and watch the stars lit up. Thank you for the cleanliness of the place and your warm welcome!

Great location, well spread out campsite

Our family of 4 had a lovely time staying here in late August. The location is perfect, just a couple of minutes from the coast path. Piping hot showers, friendly hosts and a great farm shop were some of the other things we enjoyed.

very nice small campsite, good facilities and very eco friendly

Very close to Pembrokeshire coast path and only a short 5 minute drive from Tenby. Lovely warm showers which was a bonus as the weather was pretty chilly!

Fantastic time

Stayed 3 nights at this lovely site early August. Tom has thought of everything. For those of you who want a small eco friendly site but still with the convenience of proper flushing toilets and hot showers this is the place for you. As a middle aged solo female camper I felt safe and comfortable here. The site was "full" during my stay but felt anything but. Plenty of space for everybody, families, couples, solos and dogs. Icing on the top for me was the provision of fire pits. Camping for me is never complete without a fire to either cook on or just to sit and daydream by. Thanks Tom, I hope to return, but maybe with a bigger tent!
Aug 28, 2020 by Sue

Friendly Hayhall

Perfict eco system, mix of farm animals, and solar power what more does a camper need, food to me is the best Welsh food ever the journey in and veiws of sorrounding area are a twichers dream, coastal birds cliffs and buitful walk way along coastal paths, though their one day in the future improvements to toilets and wash forcilities please try you may like it.

Old school camping at its best

Tom was very welcoming and full of ideas and recommendations for beaches and walks. Great shop with lovely bread rolls and meat. Camp fires by pitch a bonus. We’d love to come back to explore more of the amazing coastline.

Great pitch - lots of space for kids to run free

We have just come back from a 2 week stay here and would recommend this for families who want to have the luxury of space all around them - Tom ensures the campsite is not cramped and happily introduced himself to all of us. The cafe with pigs, chickens, sheep and cows for the kids to feed is a brilliant way to while away a few hours - with our children (all under 8) running about & keeping entertained while we ate delicious cake and drank tea. The showers were wonderfully hot all the time (they each have their own gas boiler) and, though there were only a few showers, I never had to wait. Only recommendations would be to have an extra washing sink as there was often a wait (albeit around 5 minutes at most). Thank you for a brilliant stay!

3 nights in Paradies

We were lucky when Tom said us on the phone: Sure there is space for you. Find a pitch and feel like home. So we did and enjoyed 3 nights at this really relaxing Camping place. There were clean toilets and showers - most of the time with warm water. They had a solarpowered loading station for smartphones and the best: only some steps till the coast path. 45 min walk to tenby, much less to the beaches. We loved our time here and were a bit sad when we realised on our last day in Wales /GB, that the little farm shop which belongs to Tom an is really close, serves the best Welsh Breakfast we had during our 3 weeks holiday in the UK! Go for it!

Perfect campsite in a beautiful location.

Just returned from a fabulous week’s camping at Becks Bay. The campsite is perfect: camp fires, small, dog-friendly, quiet, great showers and enough toilets to serve the small number of campers allowed. Terrific location too: several golden sand beaches within a 15 minute drive (we like Skrinkle the best) and, the sea was warm enough to swim in! (those in wetsuits did look warmer though). Thoroughly recommend it.

Fantastic Little Campsite

Spent 3 days at Becks Bay and thoroughly enjoyed it. Tom was very welcoming and the site itself was pleasantly busy without ever feeling crowded. Toilets were super clean and showers super hot. Only a short walk to the well stocked farm shop / cafe, and an even shorter walk to the coastal path. Pembrokeshire is possibly the best holiday destination in Great Britain and this site is a perfect base from which to explore it. Will definitely return again in the future.

Best campsite we’ve stayed in

We’ve just come back from 4 nights at Becks Bay. It is a really great campsite with a very relaxed vibe. The toilets and showers were lovely and clean, the location is great (just by the coastal path) and the farm shop is also wonderful and great that it has freezer block facilities.

Such a beautiful spot

Can't speak highly enough about this place. Very relaxed vibe, beautiful location and right on the coastal path. The coastline is a short walk away, and some gorgeous beaches in easy reach. We ate at the farm shop and it was delicious, and bought food from there to cook - also lovely. The shop also sells the dough balls for the pizza oven, which makes using that easy. Loved the whole experience, and can't wait to come back.

Great site, welcoming and helpful staff, good location.... what's not to like?

Becks Bay is a relaxed and welcoming campsite. Child and dog friendly, it's spot on for the whole family. Ablutions and utilities as you'd expect; rustic, charming and functional. The nearby (5min walk) shop has all the essentials and plenty more; great for coffee and cake on any day it also provides details of local events and activities via flyers/pamphlets and the local knowledge of the helpful and friendly staff. Cliff top walks are a real highlight, the wonderful views meander gently to some lovely beaches. The camping is near the road, although it isn't busy and a solid hedge separates you, it's nothing to worry about but good to know. Glampers get the best view and when busy the pitches are close-ish, but far enough apart not to worry if it gets a little windy.... Overall Becks Bay is a great campsite, I will be returning.

Fabulous peaceful stay at a lovely campsite

Minimal pitches so plenty of space for everyone. Able to leave the car and walk from the site. Facilities rustic and qwerky but clean. Tom the owner very friendly. Firepits lovely. Bought meat from farmshop and all fabulous. Also ate at cafe on last morning before travelling home, really good. Wouldn't hesitate to return to this site.

Lovely campsite, very laid back, dog and child friendly. Don't go if you can't live without electricity or wi-fi, or cobwebby upcycled toilets. If you can, however, you will have a fabulous time here.

Family-friendly, Wild and Wonderful

We spent a week at Beck's Bay and, despite the inclement weather, we survived and thoroughly enjoyed our time in this beautiful part of the country. We loved the simplicity of this small, relaxed, clean, family-friendly site, taking us comfortably back to basics. There is so much to see and do nearby that the children were never bored and were catered for even on rainy days. We would be very happy to return and recommend this site.

Brilliant holiday, recommending this site to friends

My granddaughters loved the freedom and the eldest did not use her phone once during the week we were there. Tom was very welcoming to all campers as they arrived. Evenings were made even more special with the campfires . Very special place.

Friendly family atmosphere

Fantastic camp site, Tom and his family set a lovely vibe, of respect for each other and the environment. would recommend to anyone and our 2 kids love the play house and swing. I would recommend going to the farm shop and cafe we only went on our last day wish we had more as the food is fantastic.

A blissful retreat - perfect little campsite in every way - clean, peaceful, beautiful surroundings and perfect location right next to the UK's most stunning coastpath

A perfect stay in our campervan over a late May bank holiday weekend which would have been far less enjoyable anywhere else! Beautifully clean, tidy, quiet campsite with plenty of space between pitches and lots of quirky extras like hammocks in the trees! - friendly helpful owners, dog friendly and adjacent to the amazing Pembrokeshire coastal path - no need to drive anywhere - just pitch and walk in either direction - Tenby or Lydstep. We will return.

Just a perfect little place in Pembrokeshire

Our first time glamping - couldn’t have asked for more. Gorgeous weather and a great site and location- easy to access all the super beaches in the area. Really peaceful and good facilities without being over developed- the shower is great! Beds are comfy. Lovely host Tom- friendly and helpful- the farm shop across the road is good too- full of local produce. We’ll be back for sure.

Relaxing bank holiday weekend.

We stayed at Becks Bay over a sunny bank holiday and it was just lovely to come back, to a peaceful campsite, after the chaos in Tenby and Sandersfoot. The environment was very friendly and welcoming and my brother was filled with regret as he was at a noisy campsite down the road. On the last day we went for lunch in the farm shop - was just beautiful and I didn't want to leave. Solar power electric point to charge phones - brilliant!!! Hope to visit again soon.

Thanks Laura, hope you'll be back soon. Kind regards Tom

Absolutely amazing time.

Could not fault our stay in the Frankshore Shepherds Hut. A beautiful setting and truly amazing hosts whose hospitality and friendliness was so welcoming. The Shepherds Hut is well equipped, so great to have ensuite and a fab shower. We were greeted every morning by the dairy cattle and the chickens and pigs very comical. Bubbleton Cafe and Farm shop again were staffed with welcoming employees. The scenery and local attractions added to our experience. Tom advised on local beaches to visit and the information in the Shepherds Hut made us explore every day. We can really recommend Stackpole, part of the National Trust, the beaches are out if this world. I've already recommended friends to visit and we are hoping to return very soon and in the colder months. Thanks Tom and Sally, it was a pleasure meeting you. X

Wonderful stay

We absolutely loved it here and can't wait to go back. A few days before arrival I received a fantastic email from Tom with a map of the site, directions and pages of recommendations for meals, things to do etc. The site was easy to find - though it is a very sharp left turn immediately as you go under the bridge - and is well kept. Great toilet block and a wonderful shower. Each pitch is a good size and has a fire pit which is great in the evenings. The farm shop is just down the road and has a nice selection of supplies as well as an excellent cooked breakfast in a lovely cafe. Tom is incredibly welcoming and friendly and was on the site every evening. The location is perfect - peaceful but close to everything and we found it incredibly relaxing. Overall it's a very friendly, well kept site and the nicest I've been to - I can't recommended it highly enough and will be going back!

A great first time

We had our first camping holiday as a family. We had a weekend at Becks bay and were not disappointed. We had sunshine and heavy rain over the weekend and made the best of both. We enjoyed the campfires and bbq's on the grass and the kids loved the swing and walking to the coast. It was great to have a technology ban and enjoy some good old fashioned ball games. The site was very basic with no electric hookup or wifi thankfully but the toilet and shower facilities were great and charming at the same time. I love the "knocked up with anything will do" theme. We were contacted by Tom on the day we were arriving apologising for not being able to meet us due to personal reasons. He informed us that his mother in law would be looking after the site but we didn't see anyone. The farms shop was non-existent but understandably after reading newsletter on site citing reasons which I will not publicise on here. Our first nights sleep was awful due to wind flapping corners of tent and we were sleeping with our heads down the wrong edge of the tent and very noisy neighbours getting very drunk and shouting and swearing until 3:30am. (Unfortunately I had left my baseball bat at home lol). But despite that we loved camping and the site and would definitely go back. The location is great too, between Tenby and Manorbier. It was very quiet except for a little road traffic and the odd trai. Now and again.

A fantastic weekend with no electric hook up, no wifi, no phone signal........ Bliss! A lovely rustic, simple site to escape from reality and reconnect with nature, family and friends. Didn't want to leave!

We just had the most amazing weekend at Becks Bay! If what you're looking for is good ol' fashioned wild rustic camping, but with just the right amount of luxury thrown in then I can highly recommend the bell tent option at this site. The site itself, is in an incredible location, it's really accessible yet feels remote and secluded, it borders the stunning stretch of coast path between Tenby and Lydstep, with views over a picture perfect cove and the monastic island of Caldey. All within a stones throw of Tenby and wet weather activities in the shape of Anna's Zoo, The Dinosaur Park and Heatherton. As a young family slightly nervous about our first camping trip with a baby, we were delighted to be welcomed by a comfortable bell tent, with everything we needed provided from a BBQ to a fantastic hot shower. Tom the owner came to say hello and welcome us to the site with his two young boys on his tractor. The land has been in his family for generations and he was able to give us some top tips as to where to visit in the area and the best walks. We took his advice and took a wonderful day trip to Caldey island from Tenby. The beaches there are exquisite, and it's such a great place for kids. We'll definitely be back, but next time for a week, and although I feel compelled to write this review as a thank you for a wonderful weekend, there's a little part of me that feels like keeping it a secret!
