Camping and glamping in a quiet corner of a Pembrokeshire adventure centre, with a bar on the doorstep and a beach down the road

Down a narrow lane crowded by cow parsley, Preseli Glamping is found – a gently sloping camping meadow that rolls down to a stretch of wild woodland set just back from the Pembrokeshire coast. Amongst wildflowers and sapling trees, just 14 spacious camping pitches fringe the Preseli Glamping meadow, each with a picnic table and firepit, plus access to the all-new eco shower block. There's oodles of space for lying around in the sun or stretching out in extended child's pose and tucked away, enclosed in a little glade, there's also a show-stopping geodesic dome. Kitted out with a double bed, two futons and a toasty log-burning stove, the dome, almost encircled by the trees, provides a wonderful feeling of solitude – something only accentuated at night, when the campfire’s going and the stars are out in full force.

When you fancy being sociable, the Preseli Venture eco lodge is just a few minutes' walk away – where you can book in for home-cooked meals or simply enjoy an evening beer in the lodge’s outdoor courtyard area, with views down to the sea. In fact, Abermawr Beach is a mere one mile away (and eminently walkable), while popular beaches like Abereiddy are less than 15 minutes by car. St Davids, the tiny cathedral city that sticks out on the map, is also within easy reach, as are Solva, Newgale and Whitesands Bay.

From the adventure centre next door, meanwhile, sea kayaking trips can be arranged (for all levels) and the Preseli Venture team are the most experienced people to take you surfing and coasteering at different locations in the area. All trips are led with the same zeal and enthusiasm that owner Sophie had when she first started the business back in the ‘80s. And, while in those days, swimming into sea caves, paddling through gullies and jumping off cliffs was something reserved for adrenaline junkies and eccentrics, today it’s become one of the most popular seaside activities in Wales. It would almost be rude not to don a lifejacket and try it out.

Blenny's Nook
Great quiet site in north Pembs
Great uncrowded campsite with large, level pitches each with fire pit and picnic table. Plenty of water points near the pitches, clean toilet/shower blocks by car park and a freezer for ice packs. The car free camping area is a great idea, with plenty of barrows to move kit to the pitch, only a few minutes walk. The beach is a 30 minute walk down a quiet lane.

Grey Seal
The Seal plot at Preseli Camping was ideal! It was covered enough by the bush line to provide privacy and comfort! All plots were spaced out enough! And Wi-Fi connection was available! Overall, a perfect stay.

Seagrass Meadow
We had a fabulous holiday here. The pitches are all at different levels and surrounded by wildflowers, so it feels very private. It was our first time taking our puppy camping, so we chose this as a small site. The toilets and showers are good. Being able to charge phones is great. We loved having a picnic bench and fire pit and the lovely beaches in the area. My 8 year old wants to spend the whole 6 week summer holiday here!

Amazing camping spot, space to roam
We loved our time at Preseli Glamping. The pitches are spacious and there is plenty of room between them. We also appreciated the fact that cars are not allowed on the site itself. A fantastic place to stay. It also helped that the sun shone throughout our stay ☀️

From the host
Nestled in an ancient wooded valley with views down to the dramatic North Pembrokeshire Coast, the Preseli Glamping glade is only a 20-minute walk through the bluebell-carpeted National Trust woodland trail to the secluded sandy beaches of Abermawr and Aberbach, safe for family swimming and great for rock-pooling. The campsite is perfect for walking the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path, and there are a series of lovely circular local walks to do, with route maps, right from the campsite, including the hill-top village of Mathry, Abermawr valley woods, Tregwynt woollen mill, and beautiful local beaches and hidden rocky coves. 14 spacious camping pitches are spread out around a rolling meadow amongst the wildflowers and saplings, and a luxurious geodesic dome is sheltered in an arboreal amphitheatre of birdsong, hidden at the foot of the valley. A rural retreat, rich in wildlife, Preseli Glamping offers a unique opportunity to restore and reconnect with Nature in a secluded sanctuary for adventurers of all kind, longing to explore the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. With a brand-new sparkling clean bathroom block, private picnic tables and fire pits with cooking grills for every pitch and a wide open grassy space for yoga, reading in the sun, ball games and children’s games, this is a perfect place for families, couples, or friends to escape, relax and reset in beautiful, comfortable surroundings.
Nearby attractions

Preseli Glamping is right at the heart of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, only a ten minute walk to Abermawr and Aberbach, both beautiful, remote beaches, safe for family swimming, with pebbles and, as the tide drops, expanses of sand revealed.

A plethora of circular walks starting and finishing at the campsite as well as longer walks which link up with the coastal shuttle buses will immerse you in the historical heritage of the landscape from craggy cliffs and undulating sandstone coves to volcanic headlands and glacial valleys; ancient drowned forests to Neolithic burial chambers; from the oldest working woollen mill in Wales, Tregwynt woolen mill, magnificent 12th-century cathedral in St David's. From these well-traversed trails, swathed in sea campion, yellow gorse and pink thrift flowers, you can spot inquisitive grey seals lazing on the rocky shoreline, pods of harbour porpoise and Atlantic sea birds fishing, peregrines diving and kittiwakes nesting. Mull over mesmerising rock pools where ruby-red beadlet anemones sway, blennies dart between pebbles and winkle shells shimmer in the sun… Comb the tideline for a mermaid’s purse or sea-smoothed pottery amongst the driftwood.

Neighbouring 5-star sustainable outdoor activity provider, Preseli Venture, is the place to meet your adventurous edge. Sea kayaking trips will take you paddling amongst towering stack rocks and natural archways, booming sea caves and swell-swilling rock gardens. Take an invigorating plunge on a coasteering adventure, traversing the natural playground where the land meets the sea with the encouraging guidance of passionate and knowledgeable local guides. Suit up, boot up and pop up on clean, green, peeling waves with the help of expert surf instructors who’ll take you to the best blue-flag beach breaks. Excellent quality specialist kit and minibus transport is provided from the adventure centre, next to the campsite.

Further afield, it's a 15-minute drive to Abereiddy, a beautiful beach with exraordinary black sand, a row of ruined mining cottages and the Blue Lagoon, a breached quarry with bright blue waters perfect for diving and swimming! It's a touch over 15 minutes to diminutive St Davids city and its stunning medeival cathedral where you can also take a boat trip around RSPB Ramsey Island to see a myriad of wildlife.
