A last minute stay to find peace

We booked a 2 night stay in one of the pioneer lodges for 3 adults 1 child and a toddler. The tent was clean and cosy, the bedding fresh and everything thing we needed was already there. There were hot showers and flushing toilets as well as a nearby compost loo for the late night run before bed. There was plenty of space and beautiful surroundings. No WiFi or phone signal around the tent was the perfect excuse for a switched off weekend of family fun. A really beautiful and accommodating site, it was just what we wanted and would definitely book again.

Perfect get away on my own with my girls

As my husband was busy working as a chef in busy Cornwall, I decided to drive to Wales to have some adventures with our girls. I had been recommended TOTW by my sister-in-law and it didn't disappoint. We camped in The Meadow with our own tent and had plenty of space. We loved playing football, rounders etc whilst just enjoying the relaxed pace of life. I really enjoyed the opportunity for my girls to be independent again (after COVID) and they loved this freedom. We also enjoyed the film night in the barn. Thanks for a brilliant stay and although you were busy it didn't feel busy at all.

Very clean and well organised but relaxed oasis

We loved our recent 7 night stay at Top of the Woods. It's a lovely site. The camping field feels quite private with huge meadow in the middle. We saw a barn owl fly past the tent one night! I especially loved the secret waterfall walk which I ran 3 times including swimming in the idyllic secret waterfall. The toilets and showers are the cleanest campsite amenities I have ever seen! It was great to hire the fire pit /bbq and we enjoyed making babaganoush, veggie burgers, chocolate bananas, chocolate oranges, popcorn etc etc. A great family holiday our 4 year old and 9 and 11 year old nephews had a grand time too.

Thank you Lucy for your lovely review! So glad you enjoyed your holiday oasis & got to spot the Barn Owl who quite often makes her evening rounds across the meadows! We would love to see you all another time x

Lush!

We booked a grass pitch, but we added a bell tent for our stay. It was fabulous to arrive and not have to pitch a tent or take it down! The site is beautiful, the owners so friendly and helpful - as were the other members of staff. The pop up food was delicious - especially the Asian food from Sauce on the Saturday evening. The walk to Ffynonne Waterfall was wonderful, although I wish I had taken my swimsuit for a quick dip in the pool. The only complaint I have is that our stay wasn't long enough! We would love to come back and stay in the Pioneer tents...hopefully we will be back one day!

Getting There

Follow the M4 to the end, which then becomes the A48 to Carmarthen. From Carmarthen, take the A484 through Newcastle Emlyn to Cenarth, then the B4332 for 4.5miles. After passing through the village of Newchapel, pass the gatehouses of the Cilwendeg Estate on the left, and take the left turn immediately afterward into Capel Coleman Road.
If you follow satnav to our postcode, it will tell you you have arrived arrived once you turn into Capel Coleman Road; you need to continue down Capel Coleman road, past the houses and continue on until you reach the small Church of St. Colman. Take the left hand fork (signposted Penrallt \ Top Of The Woods), and continue to the bottom of the track, where you will see the gate into the parking area.
There are good regular train services to Carmarthen or Aberystwyth, which connect with buses to Cardigan or Boncath village. There’s also an excellent local taxi company, who can collect from any of the nearby towns or stations, and who have minibuses available.
