A pretty spot run by a seriously special couple. With climbing frames and farmyard animals to amuse the kids, in countryside dotted with castles.

We sincerely hope you don’t get lost in the snaking lanes that twist and turn their way towards the mellow spot that is Tir Bach Farm. But we promise that, once you’ve finally found this farmland site, you’ll be reluctant to leave.

Most people have dreams. Some people dream about winning the lottery or writing a bestselling novel. Living in Bristol, Ashley and Roze had a dream about moving to Wales to farm a smallholding and run a cute little family-friendly campsite. They heard about Tir Bach Farm, which, appropriately, means ‘small land’. And as soon as they visited this special little patch of Wales, they realised that their dream was right in front of them. They now have not only a campsite comprised of 20 tiered tent pitches and two comfy yurts, but also a grand collection of animals: cows, breeding sows, kune kune pigs and goats, as well as geese, ducks, turkeys and the odd chicken scratching around the farmyard.

The farm’s surrounded by mountains and 12 acres of ancient woodland with paths ripe for exploration and a small river, complete with a fallen tree-trunk-bridge. You could try the exciting option of taking part in one of their Bushcraft courses. And with hardly any light pollution, so star gazing is a must. One of the nicest things is that, at the end of a day out, you can return to the whispering stillness of Tir Bach Farm. It’s a mellow spot, because Roze and Ashley are mellow people. We think that you’ll like it here so much that you might just start dreaming of moving to the Welsh countryside, too.

Campfires allowed – in a communal pit. The old milking parlour houses 4 showers, a washing-up area with 2 big sinks, clothes-washing (£4–£5) and drying facilities (£1 for 30 minutes), a shared fridge-freezer and electricity sockets (20p for 4 minutes). Another barn gives shelter during inclement weather, with a BBQ, chimenea, punch bag & table tennis. Once a week the pizza oven is lit for communal creations. There’s also a kids playground and pool room. The yurts (sleeping 6 and 4) have fixed kitchens plus utensils, a wood-burning stove, gas hob and water, but bring your own bedding. Balconies look out to the Preseli mountains.

Suitable For

Campers, glampers, dogs (on leads), groups, campervans (no hook-ups) – yes. Caravans – no.

At the beginning of the farm track is Penrhos Cottage, a traditional Pembrokeshire thatched cottage, almost unchanged since the 19th Century. Roze has a key. Castell Henllys Iron Age Fort at Preseli hills (01239 891319) is a 20-minute drive. Llys-y-Fran reservoir (01437 532273) is great for fishing, boating, cycling and walking, and there’s a café and play area. Scolton Manor (01437 731328) is just outside Haverfordwest. The nearest beach is at Newport; kayaking and sailing at Cardigan Bay. There are other beaches less than an hour away, including Newgale (for watersports), Dinas Head (for cute little sandy beaches) and Newport Sands (for big sandy beaches). St Davids is 45 minutes away, with plenty of history to keep everyone amused. Llys-y-Fran reservoir is nearby for fishing and boat hire.

Food & Drink

The Old Post Office (01437 532205) in Rosebush is good for home-made grub, including vegetarian and vegan options. Also try the traditional Welsh pub The Tafarn Sinc Rosebush (01437 532214) – good for meat-eaters. The Bont Pub at Llanglyden (01994 419575) does Sunday lunches. At Nevern there’s the 16th century Trewern Arms (01239 820395), which does decent food. For groceries try Bethesda Farm Shop (01437 563124) and café, which sells excellent local meat, veg and bread.

Opening Times

Easter – end September.

Family Friendly

There’s a small river in the woodland at the bottom of the site. And don’t get kicked by a milking cow either.

Incredible spot!

We loved it at Tir Bach! The owners were; friendly, welcoming, helpful, diligent, easy going and very accommodating of all their guests. The site itself is exactly what it says on the tin - it’s a beautiful farm In the heart of Pembrokeshire. It was simply stunning. The kids loved the animals and the park with equal measure, and being kids they enjoyed the extra freedom to roam that camping brings them. We found this site ideal to allow them some space to explore themselves. Facilities were brilliant, and great attention paid by the owners to keep them in very good order - especially the showers, which was incredible given they were free! Plenty of fridge and freezer space to share for the entire site. Pizza making was a bonus extra that the hosts run, and went down a treat with our little tribe! We were blessed for the weather, and consequently the sunrise, sunsets and stars were spectacular. I’m summary, a beautiful and fun site that is well worth the drive, and a perfect base for mini adventures in Wales.

Brilliant campsite!

We stayed here in our camper for 3 nights last week and loved it! There was so much for our two young boys to do, they had the play area, the animals and just the freedom to run around. We explored the woods and got wet in the river - brilliant! It was so relaxing and wonderful to wake up to such beautiful views, I have to say it was an effort to leave the campsite each day! The facilities are great and just what we needed. I could imagine returning and spending a week chilling out here and there wouldn’t be an objections from my family. I won’t forget listening to the turkeys while taking a shower, our boys loved imitating and ‘chatting’ to them! Haha!

Fantastic campsite!!

Stayed here for 2 nights over bank holiday weekend, fantastic facilities, my son loved the playground and animals on site. Also liked going down through the woods to collect woods and to find the rope swings. Showers always clean and hot, washing up area brilliant with fridges and freezers to use if needed. Felt safe here and could let my young son run around without worry. Would highly recommend..

Such a beautiful setting off the beaten track!

I have just got back from my favourite campsite Tir Bach. The setting is in a particularly beautiful part of North Pembrokeshire across the valley from the Preseli Mountains, separated by an atmospheric ancient woodland which a small river runs through. Staying so close to nature while the facilities of the campsite are excellent and have great character. Roze and Ash are great hosts illustrated by their pizza nights; cooked in their authentic pizza oven, they taste so good! Just one of many reasons that I would thoroughly recommend Tir Bach for a stay!

Fantastic, relaxing and best of all no electric

We went in late August and the owners are fabulous and very helpful. Amazing views with great places around to visit too. Dogs are welcome and the pitches are level. They have a story time campfire night, make-your-own pizza night, farm animals and a play area. There are 2 Yurts at this campsite too. The facilities are very well kept and there is a fridge for keeping things cold.

We stayed at this fantastic campsite last July. Ash and Roze are fantastic hosts. The kids had a ball and were constantly making new friends due to the small intimate nature of the campsite. As parents we had confidence in letting them roam. The pizza nights and story telling evenings are a great touch and just further foster the fact that you are part of a community when you go to Tir Bach.

Everything is really well ordered and organised but with a really relaxed feel. The owners have done a great job achieving that balance. The weather was sunny but very cool last summer but we had a great time exploring Pembrokeshire. The site is within 30-40 minutes of everywhere we found so was ideal for getting to beaches and all the other interesting places Pembrokeshire has to offer.

We would have no hesitation in recommending this site to other families.

Great Stay - Kids loved it

We have just returned from a 3 (should have been 5) night stay at Tir Bach Farm. I wanted to write a review because my children 6 and 3 loved the site and had a great time. I am a happy mum because they were happy children. They particularly loved the site play ground, and were happy to go off on their own to play with the other children. There was a storyteller who was there the first night we stayed and my daughter loved listening to the folk tales, and eating the popcorn. The farm animals were friendly and a big hit, in particular the pigs!

From an adults point of view the showers and toilets were kept clean, and there was plenty of hot water throughout the day. In the same block were sinks for pot washing, fridges and a washing machine, which were all great and made a difference to our stay. We only cut short our stay because the weather was awful, and everything inside and outside our tent was getting slowly wetter.

Having an undercover area to be in when the rain was coming down was lovely, and we made use of the BBQ, and would have loved to have sampled the homemade pizzas. Roze was very helpful and kind and I would recommend this site.

A perfectly magical spot

We have just returned from 5 nights camping here. My longest stint under canvass and Tir Bach made it easy to want to stay longer and really hard to leave. The owners are friendly and helpful and the showers and loo's clean (which is a must) and even though the site was probably 90% full we never really had to wait. There is a lovely wood to explore and the children (and us grown ups) loved the rope swing over the steep drop. There's lots to explore within about an hours drive and the little town of Newport on the north coast has a lovely pub (The Golden Lion?? I think) and the food was delicious. Tuesday nights is pizza night  what a treat. For £3 you get the dough and cheese and yummy herby tomato sauce  just add your toppings and take a glass of wine with to sip while you wait for them to cook in the pizza oven - such fun. On Wed was the story telling night by Milly Jackdaw. The best story telling I've heard and all the kids and parents alike were engrossed in her Welsh folktales around the communal fire pit. Such a magical experience. Not only was the farm well equipped with animals for the kids to enjoy and also a little playground, but also the other families there where friendly and my daughter made many friends. It felt safe and secure and a welcoming place to be. The wake up views from the furthest pitches past the yurts (we were on 22) were wonderful over the valley. A little further from the ablutions, but worth it for being a little more secluded. Thank you Tir Bach for a wonderful week. We hope to be back some time again!

We were lucky with the weather but oh what a perfect site. Huge thanks to Roze and Ash for their beautiful site. Spacious pitches with stunning view and great facilities including fridges and a pizza oven. Free range children in love with the speedboat in the park and Maggie and Truffles, the wee piggies.

I can't wait to return.

We've just got back from 5 nights at Tir Bach Farm. What a lovely campsite. From the well-maintained shower block with sinks and fridges/freezer, to the animals that wandered around (Terry will now be a legend in our household), the lovely little playground our son couldn't stay away from (he's 3.5) everything is well looked after and well thought out. Ashley and Roze are friendly and helpful. They will charge your phone for 50p in their house! Brilliant. And there's a pizza oven that's lit once a week and they sell pizza packs to campers. They also rent portable fire pits and sell wood. We stayed in the hay meadow which gave us the most beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. We were a bit hesitant at first that it was seemingly far from the coast, but as we discovered, the central location meant we could reach Newport/Whitesands/Pembroke easily and then retreat to the beauty of Tir Bach at the end of each day. We'll be back next year!

Loved it

We stayed here for two nights with my 10 year old daughter and two dogs in tow.

This is a small well maintained site. The toilet and showers are based in the converted milking parlor which made it feel quaint. Whilst we were there, there was a house martins nest in full view on a beam going directly over toilet area, so even if there was a wait for the toilet, there was entertainment watching parent birds feeding their babies! Also in the toilet shower area were wash up sinks and shared fridge freezers. There were also payable washing machine and tumble dryer. If you need electricity (we used it for blowing up airbed) there were two machines that was 20p for four minutes. There was also a book shelf where you could borrow, swap or buy books.

The animals on the farm included shetland ponies, a mule, chickens, ducks, geese, pigs, pygmy goats and a turkey.

At the house, there you could buy ice cream and muffins and wood for the communal campfire.

There was a barn there with a pizza oven which is lit from time to time (wasn't lit whilst we were there) and barbecue for hire and a table tennis table.

The views were lovely and a walk down the valley through the woods ends in a lovely stream and a rope swing. The walk up is not for the faint heart though.

We lit the communal campfire on the second night and a few fellow campers came to join us with their chairs and marshmallows and enjoyed the atmosphere of the chat by fire light.

The fellow campers were very sociable, willing to have a chat to pass the time of day and lend a hand if needed.

Loved it here for it's beauty and for the chilled out atmosphere.

Tir Bach Farm

A lovely small camp site in a great rural setting. We enjoyed the fact that it was so family friendly. The children had a great time - the communal camp fire each evening was a real hit as was the pizza making evening. Good facilities make such a difference too - plenty of hot showers, enough space in the fridge and fresh eggs and veg for sale too - what more can we ask for!

Good base to explore the hills and coast of both north and south Pembrokeshire and away from the crowds too - we'd certainly recommend it!

Tir Bach is probably the best campsite we have ever visited. From the glorious views to the friendly farm animals every element has been carefully thought out by the owners. The little details (like the barn with fairy lights, table tennis, pizza oven) make a real difference but the essentials are great too - good, clean showers/toilets, a place to wash up and fridges/freezers for storage. The magic lies in the atmosphere at Tir Bach with campers gathering every evening around the communal campfire to toast marshmallows and the daily visit to each tent from Terry the rare breed turkey. Magic!

Great place for all the family to relax

Farm has character, farm animals have even more character, hills and mountains have bluestone, celtic iron age character.. Owners are friendly and helpful, block is clean and user friendly. Views are stunning, site is well laid out, ancient woodland is a daily treat. Drive through the Preseli mountains down to the north Pembs beaches is an experience in itself worth the trek to west Wales. Lives up to its billing and more. Can’t wait to go back.

Tir Bach Farm

Ashley and Roze are very welcoming and friendly, the animals are child-safe and fantastic to be around, the campsite facilities are clean, and easy to access, I loved my time on Tir Bach farm and would love to go again. (David aged 14) I can’t agree more with my son - as you drive onto the farm you start to relax and unwind - leaving the hassles of ’normal’ life behind. The site is a fantastic base & offers a home-from-home piece of escapism. Having been to Tir Bach several times we fully intend to visit many more times to come & can’t recommend it highly enough. Great facilities, fantastic countryside & friendly faces. (Tracey aged 44!)

Tir Bach Farm

What a lovely special place, perfect if you want a secluded, remote-ish campsite.

We stayed for a weekend but could have stayed so much longer - peaceful, great for kids, very family orientated with all campers being so friendly. It was really great being able to let the kids run free, the play area was brilliant, and my 5 year old loved the freedom!

The woodland walk is a great adventure, with a wonderful stream at the bottom so bring your wellies!

The faciities were fab too; clean, efficient and everything you needed in one spot.

Only downside is we had a large tent, and couldn't fully erect it on our pitch, but loved our spot as it was at the end of the site with no one else around us, so didn't want to move really, but I would say if you have a large tent (ours is a Vango Diablo 900) make sure you are in the main area as the pitch spaces are larger there.

I say the 'main area' but its such a lovely initimate site you don't really feel hemmed in even when full as its not got that many pitches.

Good old pub food is a short hop away at Rosebush, really welcoming friendly pub with good ales on offer, and its an easy, picturesque 30 min drive from Cardigan bay and Tenby.

Would go back in a heartbeat, an inspirational place that has the balance right.
