Living art: A hot tub underneath the stars with a Breconian backdrop
Welsh legend has it that Mandinam means ‘a place without blemish’  and after just one night’s stay here, you’ll see how apt the description is for this glamping destination. The owners, Marcus and Daniella, are horizontally laid back about you sharing the farm. Feel free to ask if you want help or advice, or simply disappear and enjoy the space by yourselves if you don’t.

Marcus went to Chelsea Arts College in the 1960s and trained under David Hockney and Bridget Riley, but the art world wasn’t his only calling. After a brief spell in Sussex, he shifted his focus to raising a family and running a farm in Llangadog with the unfailing support of his wife Daniella. With an artist's attention to aesthetics, you’ll soon notice that he has put just as much care and attention into his shepherd’s hut, gypsy van, cabin, and bluebell wagon as he has the entire farm.  If you stay in Bluebell Hut in early May you may be lucky enough to be surrounded by the bluebells in bloom.

If it’s privacy you’re after, then any of the cosy abodes offers it in droves, as well as a view destined to calmly fix in your mind forever. It really is the place to lose the stresses and strains of our busy lives and unwind into some unadulterated relaxation. Once you snap out of your scenic trance and park up outside chosen abode, step inside and prepare to marvel at how dainty and cosy it is - perfect for a romantic break. Beautifully furnished, every inch of the huts exudes the love that has been put into them, from the mini kitchenette with butler sink to the traditional wood-burning stove. Equipped with everything that the camper’s heart could desire as well as the indulgence of your own private bathroom next to your hut complete with flushing lavatory, hot shower and additional basin.

The only things you’ll need to concern yourself with is when to light the BBQ and what time to climb into the wood-fired hot tub, which sit adjacent to each of the four huts. Yes, your own private hot tub, with an impressive sea of stunning farmland for a view, and the jealous stars as an audience.

As certain as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, you will be booking your next stay at this secluded rural retreat before you even start packing up to go home.

The Owner Says

These 4 wagons are unique in the fact that they are completely secluded and cannot see each other from their own wild and wooded hideaways about Mandinam's four hundred acre farm.  The keyword here is privacy.  You will have all you need for the simple life.

Each hut has a wood burning stove, a gas double burner and grill, table, chairs and a very comfortable bed as well as its own shower and loo hut.  All bedding, crockery and cutlery is provided as well as basic cooking equipment.  And your own personal hot tub completes the magic experience.

The countryside here is ancient, peaceful and beautiful.  The farm is at the edge of the black mountains, so you can walk from your chosen wagon and keep walking for hours.  There is no light pollution so on clear nights the stars are dazzling.  The birdsong in the day is uplifting and red kites are a regular sight.

The gypsy van, shepherds hut, cabin and bluebell wagon all provide a sanctuary from the busy world.  Marcus & Daniella look forward to welcoming you here.

Mandinam shepherd's hut

Second visit in July this year. As magical as we remembered. The new bathroom hut was a surprise and it proved more predictable than the quirky old one. Really liked the seating round the hot tub, where we naturally spent every evening. Always good to chat with Marcus and thanks to Danielle for the treat of fresh salad. Hope to head back again next year.

Mandinam Shepherd’s Hut

We stayed here last year and all i can say is WOW!!!  Not only is Marcus one of the most interesting people i've ever met, but the site is simply breathtaking.  If you're looking for middle-of-nowhere luxury then look no further. You'll also get a good education on the farming industry whilst you're at it! When my partner and I turned up, we couldn't believe how isolated we were.  The hut is so adorable and cosy, you almost pray for bad weather so you can light a fire and cuddle up in it.  The perfect romantic couples retreat.  There's so much to do as well, including exploring Marcus' extensive land.  But lets face it, the hot tub really is the icing on the cake.  YOU MUST GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  NOW!!!!!!

Mandinam Shepherd’s Hut

We wanted a relaxing, completely secluded break before our wedding in a few weeks and this seemed like the perfect place; it was.

Marcus and Danielle are the most wonderful hosts, kind, interesting, helpful and very happy to leave you alone or talk to you, depending on your needs. The caravan itself is just amazing, it is nestled behind a hill (which, if you walk up has the most beautiful 360 degree views) and you are not disturbed by anyone or anything. It is cute and very practical and has everything you need including cutlery, pans, cloths, washing up liquid etc so no need to overpack like we did! The bed is super comfortable and lovely and warm. The hot tub is wonderful after a day walking in the Brecon countryside.

As the main review says you can 'get lost' on the huge farm, which has hills, woodland, water and lots of animals.

When you go, don't miss going to see the waterfalls, the biggest one you can even walk behind. Just pop down to the next village - Llandavery and ask in the tourist office, they will give you a map for 30p and show you how to get there. Whilst in Llandavery eat at the castle hotel, beautiful or just have one of their home made scotch eggs!

We can't recommend the hut enough (we stayed in the gypsy caravan and didn't even know where the other hut was until we asked on the last day). Just magnificent!
