Trwyn Yr Wyfla Camping

UK Wales Snowdonia Conwy

Trwyn-Yr-Wylfa, Conway Old Road, Penmaenmawr, Conwy, Wales, LL34 6SF
Set between sea and mountains, this Conwy coast campsite takes some beating in the location leagues.

Many campsites boast 'views to die for', but few can lay claim to the scenic vistas enjoyed by visitors to Trwyn yr Wylfa. With mountains to one side and a seascape to the other, this Conwy coast campsite takes some beating in the location leagues.

Although in operation since the 1940s, Trwyn yr Wylfa was recently acquired by the folks behind Cefn Cae – another popular Cool Camping-approved spot in Snowdonia. Like Cefn Cae, the peaceful farm setting here plays host to just a scattering of pitches and the setup is refreshingly understated compared to some of the other more commercial holiday parks along the North Wales coast. This is very much a campers' campsite and the resulting clientele are a friendly mix of families, couples and walkers, with stag and hen parties or other large party groups not permitted. Despite its pleasing lack of flashy gimmicks (hardly required in a setting such as this), facilities are more than adequate with a washblock dispensing hot showers and separate ladies and gents facilities, a dishwashing area, chemical disposal point, recycling collection and a large, kid-friendly playing field for ball games. Complimentary Wi-Fi is also included in site fees.

Wherever you decide to pitch your tent (or avail of the pre-erected or fully-furnished bell varieties on offer here), uninterrupted views are promised. To the west – Anglesey, Puffin Island and the Menai Straits; to the east – Llandudno and The Great Orme limestone headland; to the south – the pony-pocked slopes of the Carneddau mountains; and on the very clearest of days, you might just spy the Isle of Man across the Irish Sea to the north. It comes as little surprise then that Trwyn yr Wylfa translates as 'watching point'.

But it isn't all about whiling away the hours transfixed by the scenery here. Being situated on the northern fringes of Snowdonia National Park, there's a wealth of walking routes to enjoy. The Synchnant Pass over Conwy Mountain or the coastal path can be picked up right from the site. Local amenities are also easily reachable with both beach and pubs a few minutes' stroll away.
