A picturesque, back-to-basics campsite in the Llyn Peninsula Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
Bert's at Bryn Ifan has been a place for friends to come together since its inception. The Paice family, who own the neighbouring Bert's Kitchen Garden (10 min drive from Bryn Ifan), have been friends with Bryn Ifan owners Callie and Gwynn for years, with the latter's daughters even working at the Garden. Now Bert's has teamed up with the couple to bring this idyllic campsite to life, providing low-key and intimate eco-camping with uninterrupted countryside, stunning coastal walks on your doorstep, and the stress of city life kept firmly in the rear-view mirror of anyone who visits.

Bert's at Bryn Ifan is nestled within around 15 acres of a sprawling 500-acre family-run farm in North Wales, within the Llyn Peninsula and close to Snowdonia. The seven private pitches are mowed into the meadow in a unique pattern reminiscent of a crop circle, with wildflowers outlining each circle in its branching design. Rolling countryside views stretch right out until they reach the coast — the view from the top pitch is particularly noteworthy — with the sea visible from the site and accessible within a short drive. A vintage caravan is being prepared for guests to this new site, too, with this '60s-styled blast from the past sleeping two and a baby While the limited number of pitches in this site ensures its ground remains unspoiled and environmentally friendly, there are still favorable amenities here including flushing toilets located in their own private little sheds, and hot showers for washing after a day spent rambling around the farmland.

After working up an appetite after trekking through the Llyn Peninsula — an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that encompasses a myriad of beaches, farmsteads, and impressive (but fortunately extinct) volcanic peaks — Bryn Ifan's visitors have members-only access to Bert's Kitchen Gardens just down the road, who can rustle you up a meal at any time of the day. Here you can also book yoga classes for both kids and adults alike, or take a kayak out for an entire day of adventuring. With Bryn Ifan, Bert's is getting bigger, and we're perfectly okay with this picturesque slice of private heaven taking over the Peninsula.

An eco-friendly campsite, Bert's provides two showers and three toilets, along with a washing-up area for cleaning up your leftovers. All toiletries are provided by the site, so you need only bring your essentials. Barbecues and campfires are allowed though must be kept off the ground, and logs for your fires can be purchased from the site. Rubbish and recycling bins are dotted around the site, and guests are asked to limit the amount of plastic waste they bring with them. A vintage, '60s-themed caravan will also be made available to guests.

Suitable For

Camping for couples, children, and families - yes. Campervans, caravans, motorhomes, group bookings - no.

The Llyn Peninsula is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with it providing a slew of activities to engage in both on land and in water. Walking, bouldering, and climbing opportunities are available for those who bring their own gear. Those in the mood for something more adventurous in this department can contact JT Expeditions (07500 773951), a 10-minute drive from the site, for their Surf and Turf Snowdonia Expedition in the Snowdonia National Park, which is itself around 20 miles from the site. The Snowdon Mountain Railway (01286 870223) is a tourist railway that will take you to the summit of Snowdon, the highest peak in Wales, if you're not in the mood for the hike. Caernarfon Castle (0300 025 2239) is around a 25-minute drive away, one of the most visually striking Middles Ages buildings given its positioning on the banks of the River Seiont. For something much closer to home, Bert's Kitchen Garden (01286 660823) is a 10-minute drive away, with those staying at Bryn Ifan being given members' access to this neighbouring retreat, along with its yoga classes and water sports.

Food & Drink

Bert's Kitchen Garden's restaurant provides fresh croissants in the morning, along with homemade cakes and ice cream to purchase in the afternoons, followed by drinks and sharing boards in the evenings. Locally-sourced food can also be provided for you in the evenings, though you must book in advance. For off-site treats, The Black Cat cafe (01286 832691) is a 10-minute drive away in Parc Glynllifon, with it providing tasty cakes in a lush green setting. Caffi Meinir (01758 750442) is further out and can be reached in a 20-minute drive, serving a variety of homemade meals, snacks, and refreshments on the Llŷn Peninsula. The Ty Coch Inn (01758 720498) is a little over 30 minutes away, ranked as one of the top beach bars in the world back in 2016, one of just two dozen buildings in Porthdinllaen, and offering a scenic spot to have a pint and watch the waves.

Great Stay

We arrived quite late, but Callie and Gwyn greeted us and had even left a board out telling us where to go and what to do just in case. They were very friendly from the outset and whenever we bumped into them throughout our 3 night stay. The pitch was as expected and we rented a fire pit and fire wood can be bought from the site. The toilets and showers were brand new, immaculately kept. and the barn had a fridge for our food and somewhere to charge our phones. The views from the site back down to the Menai Striate are spectacular and would recommend to anyone to stay here.

Peaceful, personal, and a warm welcome

I stayed at Bert's for 3 nights with 3 friends during September. The first thing that we noticed was the friendly warm welcome we received by Cali and Gywn who introduced us and told us about the area and places to visit. The campsite is small and quiet, cosy and well equipped with showers, toilets, and a fridge/freezer. It's an ideal place for a relaxing retreat with a calm atmosphere. The location is fairly remote and you get some beautiful views of the coast from the camping area. I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting a comfortable camping getaway.

Tranquil, laid back "proper" camping!

We booked last minute - same day, and spent 2 nights here. The most peaceful campsite - rarely do you hear any traffic noise as you're not near any main roads. The most amazing "dark skies" - my other half was like an excited 5 year old to see the Milky Way in 2 different positions on our 2nd night! Callie and Griff are wonderful hosts and one of the highlights of our weekend was chatting to them. The campsite has "open air" type facilities for loos and shower (currently only one shower, but usually 2), so if you have one, bring a towelling robe/dry robe for after your shower to wrap yourself in, especially as the nights draw in. We will be back - thank you for a wonderful stay, Callie and Griff! xx

Fantastic Stay!

We had booked to stay at Bryn Ifan's from Monday to Friday - but were itching to get away and arrived on the Saturday instead! Callie and Gwynn immediately made us welcome and found us a spare spot to pitch our tent. The site is lovely - with great views to both the mountains and the sea. The small number of pitches make the campsite feel really special, and adds to the feeling of being in the middle of nowhere! The facilities are well appointed and very clean. Firepits and BBQs are also available. Callie and Gwynn were exceptional hosts and full of useful information about the area, places to see and hikes to tackle. This campsite may be on the pricier side - but worth the extra for it's beautiful location, it's wonderful hosts and the tranquility it offers!

Wonderful site

Amazing and Beautiful

My partner and I spent three nights here and we were very impressed. Astounding views day and night across Wales and into the night sky. Facilities were very nice, and well thought about. Hosts were friendly and very helpful when we needed them for anything. Location is very remote and really quite wonderful. Thanks again and hopefully we end up coming back soon. Lee

Beautiful location, very friendly hosts, authentic charm

The location and views are amazing the mountains and the sea, very helpful and friendly hosts, the facilities are very authentic and charming very peaceful and in an idyllic setting, pitches are well spaced too and the site facilities give an exclusive retro feel . Good hot shower, perhaps an additional shower unit would help at busy times. Maybe the option to purchase a few essentials on site with an honesty box would be good too .

Perfect + Attention to Detail

This site is absolutely amazing! Such a warm welcome from the hosts and their attention to detail is unlike anything I've ever seen at a campsite (or hotel for that matter)! You can tell they have spent time and effort on this fairly new project and really are set up for greatness. Everything you'd need at a site (parking, water, toilets, etc) PLUS - Very quiet - certainly attributable to the small size - Electric kettle, fridge, and coffee available - Nice chat and area recommendations - My sleeping pad popped and they even let me borrow an extra - how amazing is that - Nice view out to the coast If we ever find ourselves heading back to the area, we will try and stay again, still much to explore. Cheers!!

Lovely little site with breathtaking views.

I arrived on their second ever day of operation, and the site was absolutely beautiful. You can see the site on the photos, but what I didn't expect was the perfect view of the Snowdonia peaks (inc. Snowdon), and the sea (inc. place which became my favourite local swimming spot - Dinas Dinlle, past the kink in the road, away from the shops). The sun rose over the mountains and set over the sea every idillic day. The facilities, although basic in essence, includes newly-built hot water showers, flushing loos and an outdoor washing up area with hot water. The owners are super-friendly and helpful too. I can't recommend this site highly enough. I hope to be back

Best camping stay!

Callie and Gwynn have gone above and beyond at their very angelic site, the pitches are spaced nicely and never too far from the facilities. The facilities are lovely and clean, it’s truly special being able to view the trees whilst having a shower! Callie and Gwynn themselves are very warm and welcoming, they are also very knowledgable about the area and are happy to recommend and give directions to everywhere. (We recommend downloading google maps so Gwynn can drop pins of the locations for you) My family and I have had an amazing experience here at Berts at Bryn Ifan and we’ve already mentioned that we shall be coming back next year hopefully with the rest of the family for a family holiday! Huge thank you to Callie and Gwynn for being amazing hosts and for having us stay! Can’t wait to come back!!
