Cae Wennol Yurts

UK Wales North Wales Conwy

Eco-friendly yurt glamping in the Conwy Valley on the edge of Snowdonia National Park

With so much of the region's fascinating past woven into its majestic scenery, which stretches from the North Wales coastline right through to rural Snowdonia, the Conwy Valley provides the ultimate backdrop to any camping adventure. The impressive mountain ranges, serene lakes, and primitive moorlands never fail to capture the hearts of visitors, and create a unique collection of natural beauty that must be seen to be believed.

Deep in the Conwy Valley and set amongst a 16 acre smallholding is Cae Wennol Yurts, an eco-friendly glamping site that strikes the perfect balance between luxury and rustic living. Guests soon realise the sites approachable owners (Avril & Dyan) were eager to create a magical, relaxing retreat where visitors can enjoy a self-sustainable environment that’s rich in wildlife. And here at Cool Camping; we think they’ve succeeded.

The 3 Mongolian Yurts (Seren, Heddwch, and new recruit Celynnin), are vibrantly painted with striking colours on the inside and out. Each dwelling comes lovingly furnished in a relaxed and romantic way with a comfy double bed, wooden floors, homey rugs, comfy cushions, and a log burner – perfect for keeping warm on a chilly North Wales night.

The Yurts can be found nestled by an idyllic nature garden where guests can sit under the shade of a tall silver birch and watch the dragonflies buzz gingerly around the water lilies. The site is also home to many feathered friends, with mallards (and their young), herons, red kites, and buzzards regularly circling above.

It may feel like a chore to drag yourself away from such a restful environment, but do try and make the most of exploring this wonderful part of Wales. Luckily Cae Wennol Yurts is perfectly positioned to do just that.

Wonderful Place

This was a terrific place for a short family break. The yurts are well appointed and very comfortable, and they are set reasonably far apart on the undulating site, so you get a great degree of privacy if you want it. The setting of Celynnin yurt that was "ours" is particularly scenic, surrounded by gently landscaped nature within the site, and fields, trees and hills in the surrounding area. There are areas to cook and eat at each of the yurts as well as a better equipped central kitchen and lounge area, and the pizza oven. Individual (though centrally located) toilets for each yurt and shared shower facilities, all relatively basic but functional and more than adequate. The owner, Avril, was friendly and helpful. The kids (and grown ups!) loved building campfires, cooking outdoors, toasting marshmallows, etc, and had a great time. And there's loads to do in the area, from castles to caverns, lots of walking, great biking, even a surf lagoon just up the road. A lot of fun, all round.

The yurts, the area and the owner are all fabulous. Avril is very welcoming and friendly and has created an amazing, peaceful place to stay and unwind. A lot of care and love has been put into Cae Wennol yurts and you can lose yourself in the gorgeous surroundings. Great for families, groups or couples. Highly recommended.

A place to unwind

Cae Wennol is glorious! Yurts were so comfortable and warm, and felt so private! The wildlife ponds are beautiful, and the gardens well managed. Kids can roam free in safety, and enjoy tree swings, teepee and wild areas - so much wildlife around too! It's just right for resetting your body, relaxing, and getting back to nature - a place to unwind and detach from modern day life. The owner, Avril, is great - very welcoming, friendly, and helpful, and knowledgeable of the local area. Have visited twice now, and will return again and again!
