Peace and tranquility reign supreme at this tents-only site in the heart of the Brecon Beacons

While most summer tourists from over the border descend westwards to the Pembrokeshire coast or north to Snowdonian peaks, those in the know will tell you you're missing a trick in bypassing the rugged delights of the stunning Brecon Beacons. In the famed land of mountains and valleys, the Brecon Beacons stand out for their beauty.

Just outside the charming Brecon village of Trecastle lies the refreshingly no-frills Ynysfaen. This quiet site boasts acres of space, unencumbered by cars in the tents-only field. Exception to the rule, a cosy two-person shepherd's hut is the only four-wheeled thing around here and it's travelling nowhere fast. Well...perhaps not the only thing – there are also a trio of exclusive VW-campervan-only pitches. In addition, glampers can make the most of their digital detox in one of the brand new glamping bell tents. While cars are not permitted in the camping field, guests can load their gear in the colourful wheelbarrows provided. This low-impact ethos is in keeping with the site's enduring atmosphere of peace and tranquility. While it's the perfect base camp for exploring the Beacons and Black Mountains, Ynysfaen offers a relaxing retreat, soundtracked by tweeting birds and the gentle babbling of the River Usk.

Speaking of birds, the area has more than a few to keep the twitchers entertained. See red kites, red starts, buzzards, kingfisher, heron, wild mallard and woodpeckers. Keep your eyes peeled for foxes, badgers and even the occasional otter, wriggling from the Usk that weaves past the campsite. Situated in the Brecon Beacons National Park Dark Skies Reserve, it is also a cracking spot for stargazing. The Usk Reservoir (a mile away) was named the darkest place in the reserve, so you can admire the twinkling night sky, free from light pollution.

Large modern heated shower/toilet block includes: 3 hot electric showers (unisex, each in their own individual cubicle); 3 unisex toilets; 2 wash hand basins. A covered washing-up area with two sinks, hot water, washing up utensils and ECOVER cleaning products. Treated spring drinking water – all filtered and tested on site. American style fridge freezer with ice. Herbs for cooking ( when available ) Local information – what’s on guides, leaflets, weather station forecast. Maps of the local area. Campfires permitted in designated firepits from site (£5 to hire, with a tub of dried wood & newspaper). Electric hook ups for 2 small camper The restrictions for van size are: Length – 5.5 mtrs, Width – 2.5 mtrs, Height – 2.5 mtrs. Recycling is a must. Shepherd's hut is adult couples only, featuring a double bed, log-burning stove and electrical sockets.

Suitable For

Tents, trailer tents, small (see spec under 'onsite')  campervans, glampers, well-behaved dogs – yes. Motorhomes, caravans,  – no.

The Brecon Beacons National Park has a wealth of epic walks and outdoor pursuits to engage in. Just a mile from the site, the Usk Reservoir offers stunning views and fishing, while the Usk Reservoir Trail is a great way to explore the countryside on two wheels. Anyone with an interest in Wales' industrial heritage will love the Big Pit: National Coal Museum in Blaenavon.

Food & Drink

The Castle Coaching Inn (01874 636354), in Trescastle village is a historic Georgian inn with a restaurant serving locally-sourced produce. An Amazing Place!

This is an amazing campsite one of the best i have ever stayed at. The facilities are superb. We stayed in the beautiful shepherds hut which was amazing. Elaine and Duncan were so lovely and accommodating. We had our own Kitchen with the shepherds hut which was a lovely touch. The Eggs (from their chickens) and Cake and Bread were also a nice surprise. We had a lovely fire in the evening and also a BBQ too. The location is beautifully remote too and would holiday here again for sure! 10 out of 10. Thanks guys! We'll be back.

Peaceful and relaxing hideaway

Elaine and Duncan couldn't have been more accomodating hosts! The campsite itself is very tranquil, not too overcrowded and the toilet and shower block are very clean and inviting after a night in the tent. They have included a lot of lovely little touches such as; freshly laid eggs for your bacon sandwiches in the morning, extra outdoor and indoor games for all the family to borrow whilst you visit, a book swap/share point, lots of leaflets about what to do in the area, a fridge to store your goodies, washing up provisons should you need it, spring fed drinking water, fresh herbs from the garden, bbq's and firepits with fresh reduced smoke logs purchased for a small fee. As if all that wasn't enough to make your stay even better, the campsite is set in an area of no light pollution, and i can safely say i have never seen a more beautiful starry sky at night! I can't think of anything else to add apart from thankyou very much for a lovely week! We will definitely be recommending Ynysfaen camping to everyone and would definitely return in the future!

Fabulous site

We booked this site through Cool Camping and were contacted by Elaine to say that Cool Camping had a booked us on a pitch that was already taken. She did her utmost best to accommodate us. We arrived wondering where we would be able to pitch our tent thinking we were going be dumped at the back of beyond. In fact we couldn't have asked for a better pitch and Elaine even gave us a free bucket of logs for our fire pit for the inconvenience. The site itself is lovely. Everything is very clean and pretty. There are lots of games to borrow and plenty for children to use. The washing up area has a food prep area and utensils to borrow should you have forgotten anything. There are also fresh herbs to use for cooking and free range eggs to buy laid by their own hens. Although the site was full, it was not to busy or noisy. We were only there for one night and were wishing we'd booked a week. We will be visiting again and we would certainly recommend it others

A beautiful retreat in the heart of the Brecon Beacons

I can't recommend this campsite enough. Elaine & Duncan are consummate hosts and provide anything and everything you could possibly need for a relaxing break. The location itself is perfect. A calm and peaceful place nestled on the banks of the riverk Usk. It is situated perfectly for the main walks in and around Brecon yet far enough away to feel away from it all.

Probably the best campsite in the world!

From the moment we arrived at the campsite we were impressed, a welcome which was so friendly that I can honestly say that I have only experienced anything similar one other time in my years of travel and that was at a 5 star hotel in the Maldives. The facilities were immaculate and Duncan personally showed us around and explained everything to us. The location was absolutely stunning and the camper van pitch we stayed on was of a large size and very flat. Fires are allowed on site which adds to the overall experience as well. Definitely will be returning to this campsite. Well done Duncan and Elaine for running such a perfect campsite.

One of the best!

I am a seasoned camper and have visited many campsites, and Ynysfaen is up there with the very best. The owners are super lovely, welcoming and attentive. The camp facilities are top notch and kept in immaculate condition. The site itself is also extremely beautiful. This is definitely going on the regular camping list.

Camping at Ynysfaen was amazing, it's in a great location and so peaceful with the beautiful river running alongside. The hosts were great and went out of their way to help us out and the toilets and showers are spotless. Its great to get away from the city and not hear any traffic, there is a great pub nearby and lovely walks straight from the site. We cannot wait to return!

Amazing, cosy experience - perfect getaway

We stayed in the Shepherd’s hut and it was absolutely incredible. Clean, cosy, everything you need is right there. The campsite is tucked away in a secluded area and it was a great way to get away from phones and just relax.

A fantastic campsite with wonderful owners....we will be back!!!

We have just returned after 8 nights camping at this wonderful site and we really didn’t want to leave. Elaine and Duncan have created the most beautiful and well equipped campsite. They have thought very carefully about their guests needs and have pre-empted every possible requirement that campers may have. The site has scrupulously clean facilities, eco friendly products and attention to every detail has been thought about. Lovely hot showers which were very welcome after long days walking and cycling and ample fridge and freezer space. We have never stayed anywhere where the owners make regular visits to their guests to see if they need anything, or just for a chat. They have the ability to make everyone feel welcome, nothing is any bother. A fantastic family run site, we will be back.

Beautiful site with great facilities

Camping field is a lovely riverside meadow, with a shady side if the weather is hot like it was for us. The facilities are fantastic, all clean and well maintained and with lots of extras. Paddling in the river was a great way to cool off. All had a great time and owners lovely and welcoming,

The best campsite we have ever stayed at!

This campsite is the perfect mix of peace and quiet in the middle of beautifull countryside with the nicest and most well maintained facilities of any campsite we have visited. The field itself is very flat and spacious with the only noise from the local sheep and wildlife and your campfire. The new owners have put an amazing toilet and shower block with a great washing up area and fridge freezer, all of which are spotless and so well cleaned and maintained. There are loads of little attentions to detail which really make the site stand out such as indoor and outdoor games, utensils to borrow and spare toiletries if you have forgotten items, washing up liquid and sponges, fresh herbs for cooking, fresh eggs to buy, firewood includes kindling and natural firelighters. The host are all super friendly and the whole site is beautifully cared for. We will definetly be back!

Amazing campsites and hosts

We had a long weekend at Camping at Ynysfaen and had a brilliant time. We have previously stayed at the campsite before and loved the campsite and location and were looking forward to returning. We love that the campsite is close enough to tourist attractions and has no mobile phone signal! From initial contact (via e-mail) Elaine and Duncan were friendly and helpful. Arriving at the site on Friday afternoon we had the warmest welcome from Elaine who could have not been more hospitable - she gave us a little tour showing the new additions to the campsites' facilities. These were all brilliant useful extras such as use of the fridge/freezer and cool box and new dish washing and food preparation area. Elaine and Duncan were amazing with our children as well - even taking them over to see the if the chickens had laid eggs. All the products in the washing area and bathroom were eco friendly products. Elaine and Duncans' kindness and caring was clearly contagious as everyone staying on the campsite were wonderful, friendly and a delight to spend the weekend with. We are very much looking forward to our next visit and highly recommend this wonderful gem.

Beautiful peaceful campsite!

Amazing campsite,so well kept and in a beautiful setting, with fantastic hosts. The facilities are lovely, with lots of thoughtful little touches. We'd highly recommend this beautiful site!

What an amazing campsite!

This campsite is a real gem! We visited on a bank holiday weekend in school holidays, when most campsites are heaving and facilities over-crowded. However at Ynysfaen, there was still plenty of space between tents, lots of space in the middle for playing games, and the owners were keeping the facilities spotless throughout the weekend. Everything feels well thought out and well cared for. They are making an effort to be environmentally conscious, with very clearly labelled recycling bins, motion sensor lights etc and plenty of signs to let you know how to use all of these. Loved all the extra touches - Elaine invited my daughters to collect eggs (which they loved), there were outdoor games, indoor games and books available to borrow, there were fresh herbs you could harvest to add to your meals etc The camping field is completely flat, and we didn't come across a single stone - the children didn't even need to use mallets to help put up the tent. Its in a little valley, so relatively sheltered (good news for our large family tent), and the only sounds are the stream and birdsong. Will definately come back!

Chillaxing stargazing detox site

This is our favourite site ever! Total relaxation with amazing owners Elaine and Duncan who went out of their way to make us feel at home. Showers/toilet area is spotless (showers are fab), And even toiletries to purchase incase you have forgotten yours! The kitchen area is spacious with a fridge freezer, Spare cutlery, washing up products and even fresh herbs for cooking or for your gin are all on hand too. Firepit and firewood are there for a small price, also bbq and charcoal are available. The camping field itself is very spacious with no chance of the feeling of being too close to your neighbour. Solar lights are dotted around. Lots of trees and a stream for children to explore as well as lots of outdoor games that can be borrowed. Even we had fun with a frisbee! No phone signal or WiFi but this made out stay even more cleansing! You can get 3G just by walking up the hill but we didn’t bother as it was total bliss! Well done Elaine and Duncan, will see you soon!

Beautiful, peaceful, perfect

We had a lovely night in our campervan at Ynysfaen, which is a really lovely campsite. It's quiet, a bit off the beaten track, and glorious for stargazing! The facilities were also fantastic, and the owners extremely friendly and helpful. We're already planning a return visit!

This is a beautiful place for stargazing

This is a beautiful place for stargazing. The stars are unusually bright there! There is lots of trees around so it is difficult to observe the planets which are usually low at horizon, but there is a Usk Rezervuar very close to the camp where is no obstructions.

First time glamper... it will be hard going back.

We spend 2 nights in the bell tent at Ynysfaen and had the most plesant stay. Jane is welcoming and friendly and made us feel at home. The campsite is lovely and well-maintained. A beck runs next to it which can be accessed from the site and can be heard from the bell-tent, lovely in the mornings. The shower/toilet block was fantastically clean, the showers were hot with adequate wet/dry space to get dried in too. The washing up facilities were fab and washing-up liquid was provided. Do bring your own towel though! The bell tent was stunning! The bed is comfortable and duvet is toasty. There is plenty of room to relax in and out of the tent. The wood burner is a lovely touch to take off the morning/evening chill sould there be one. The kitchen hut was fantastic and had all the equipment we could want for and more (including a large cool box). The breakfast basket and biscuits made our stay that bot more wonderful. Jane has put alot of thought into making the bell tent a luxury and stress-free camping experience. We will be coming back! The breakfast basket

Idyllic spot - spotlessly clean facilities

We stayed with three children in our own tent. Setting beautiful. Facilities basic but spotlessly clean with loo paper and washing up liquid provided. Beside a gated small river which kids loved. Lots of room and all well kept. Owners charming and helpful.

Peace, quiet and campfires!

We arrived in the rain but had a friendly and warm welcome from Jane. The campsite was quiet and we had free reign to plant our tent anywhere. There's a babbling brook that runs next to the site which was so relaxing. We picked up a campfire and cooked our jacket potatoes using that!! Toilets were nice and the showers were hot. We didn't manage to see many stars over the weekend so we will be back. I would highly recommend this site to any campers.

Unspoilt, low key, relaxing

Beautiful tranquil spot on a well-equipped but quite unique site. Everything you need is here with a strong ethic of sustainability and back to nature. Perfect for a good wind down away from working life pressures and technology.

Beautiful and peaceful with brilliant facilities!

Had a lovely couple of days at Ynysfaen! Even on a bank holiday weekend the site was peaceful, with lots of space in between those pitched up. The facilities are spotless and had properly hot water for the showers - you can tell everything has been really well thought out. Firewood & pit hire is £5 and there's even a fridge/freezer to store your food in. Lovely to fall asleep to the sound of a babbling brook, and to be able to gaze on an incredible starlit sky! Would definitely return to this gem.

An absolute gem of a campsite!

Such a great place to camp. Everything on the flat, no hills to walk up or down to get to the facilities. 3 modern toilets and showers, which were immaculately clean any time day and night. Jane was a wonderful hostess, super friendly and helpful but leaves you to your own devices. Camping area itself is a lovely field, with grass kept nice and short. You can pitch anywhere, no restrictions. Nice to have treated spring water on tap. No mobile signal, which I loved too! Would return 100% (& hope to do so before the end of the season). Lovely brown chicken comes to visit regularly which was very sweet. Sad to read a negative review on here, shame a misunderstanding can get blown out of all proportion. Seems very unfair, the facilities are immaculate. Also very handy to have access to a fridge/freezer. Totally recommended!

My favourite campsite

I feel I have to leave a review - I was just about to check the availability of the shepherd's hut when I saw the very negative review below and was shocked since this was the opposite of our experience of this campsite. We've visited a few times now and love it. The facilities are excellent and Jane is LOVELY. I once inadvertently failed to pay for a night and she sent me the nicest of emails to remind me. She has never talked down to us or been anything other than friendly, helpful, and altogether charming. I cannot recommend this campsite highly enough.

Brecon Beacons Best Spot?

Loved it here. Only stayed 2 nights but could have happily stayed longer. The campsite itself is a great size, not too big but not small and empty either. And you just can't beat a holiday in the Brecon Beacons. One of my favourite places in Wales!

Lovely Campsite, beautiful location!

Such a welcoming campsite, lovely flat and well cared for pitch area. Very clean and new toilet & shower block. Gorgeous scenery! Really helpful lovely owner (even gave us her own eggs when we asked if there were any for sale!). Would definitely return!

Rude and spoken down too! Avoid... Plenty of sites out there

First arrived, met the guy that runs it, lovely fella. Very welcoming. So far liking this. Really nice site. Good dark sky and a nice little stream along side. Calm atmosphere on the field, not too many people. However sadly this was all tainted when we encountered the wife. Very rude and abrupt and talks to you like you've just walked into her house on Christmas Day and peed on the kids!

Don't like being talked down too especially when I made a mistake about what bins to use. They were cleary labelled, glass, plastic, paper etc near to the exit, where most bins are located in 99% of campsites I've been too! However apparently these were the wrong bins. Instead of being politely shown I was talked too like someone who had just decided to take a dump in her bin(maybe I should have) When I went to move off I split the rubbish on the floor by accident. Instead offering to help, she chuckled and wondered off.

Also spoke down to my friend when he went to just look at what the deal was with the firewood. She again flings open her door shouts 'leave that alone, we will put some out later. Just leave it'. Annoying and unnecessary when we were just looking.

So behold the 'one star' Shame really, good manners and hospitality are important in this industry. Hope they learn from this!

Rules on a site are important, but so are manners and pleasant hospitality.

Response from Camping at Ynysfaen

Hi Micheal, we are sorry that you felt this way but I feel I need to explain myself. When all of our campers arrive they are shown where all of our amenities are, including that we only recycle our rubbish. Our bins are located in the washing up area and the place in which you were trying to dispose of your rubbish, was behind a building in which you would never have been made aware of. As for the firewood we can only see this as a bit of miscommunication. We have been in this trade for 10 years and often pride ourselves on customer service. Kindest regards Jane (the wife)

wonderful campsite!

Just returned from a weekend stay with my two year old daughter, her first camping experience! So glad we picked this place, beautiful area, wonderful hosts, the site itself is beautiful and the facilities are fantastic. The shower/toilet block is far nicer than my bathroom at home! Our car broke down on our second day and Jane and Nigel were brilliant, jump started the car for us twice, and dropped an email to make sure we had got home safe. Will definitely be returning in the very near future!

Warm and welcoming

We had a wonderful night at Ynysfaen on the first night of the season this year. We were greeted by Jane, a warm and knowledgeable host who clearly explained the site to us and made us feel very much at home. The facilities are superb, with impeccable showers and washing up areas, and filtered spring water straight from the local source. The field itself is well maintained and large, with a stream running alongside it and, though the field was almost empty on the night we stayed, the upper limit placed on guests means that it would never feel cramped, even when booked out. The real highlight to our evening was the campfire. It was a cold evening, and we had arrived quite late, but the kiln-dried wood quickly transformed our experience and gave us a lovely evening gazing up at Orion, in this dark sky reserve.

Beautiful Shepherds hut

We stayed in the beautiful shepherds hut 24tharch for 2 nights, despite the time of the year we were blessed with the weather so got to enjoy every minute. It wouldn't of mattered if it rained all weekend as the facilities were amazing and the hut was so warm :-) Jane has literally thought of everything and made the break a very special and relaxed weekend away. Would recommend this to everyone looking to escape the busy life and take time to stare at the stars!! Thank you again neil and Sarah xx

Excellent Camp Site

My daughter and I spent a week here last summer, and were delighted with the campsite. Set in an idyllic location, with plenty of space and a superb shower block! Jane and Nigel were wonderful, helpful hosts too. This is a good spot for exploring the Brecon Beacons, and we had a lot of fun that week. Highly recommended.

Camping at its best

My 12 year old daughter and I have just returned from  a camping tour of Wales, first stop was Ynysfaen. Jane and Nigel are perfect hosts going above and beyond to welcome their guests and providing assistance - the battery in my car key died part way through unpacking - luckily Nigel provided a spare free of charge! Their warm welcome was quite different to that experienced on other sites.

A stunning sheltered location, lots of space, incredibly clean and well located for exploring the Beacons - we enjoyed a fantastic days horse riding at Cantref Riding Centre.

I hope to bring the rest of the family back soon to stay at Ynysfaen.

camping at Ynysfaen

We've just got back from a really lovely Easter weekend spent at Ynysfaen.

My two children aged 3 and 5, my husband and myself and our dog had a great time.  Jane and everyone else were very helpful from the minuet we got there. They helped tow out trailer next to the spot we wanted to camp (the very end of the field), showed us around and made us very welcome. The toilets and showers were immaculate throughout our whole stay, the showers were the best we have ever used on a campsite, no nasty timers or buttons to push.

The location is amazing, the sound of the stream and sheep in the background and the small stream for the children to paddle in. We saw lots of red kites, bats and we even think we spotted a back otter.

My children loved using the fire basket to toast marshmellows and bread over the fire.

Jane was very helpful whilst we were packing up and was there to help us with her quad and trailer to take things back to the car. We were running quite late packing up as my daughter was ill through the night and I let her sleep in that morning. We were told not to rush and take our time.

We had a great stay and will definitely be back in the near future.

Thank you,

Rachael, Ben, Maddie, Alex and Molly dog.

A lovely stay

We just wanted to write a belated thank you to the lovely couple who run the campsite. Arriving in Wales and our tent pole snapping as soon as we pitched was not what we envisioned for our first camping trip with our 18month old daughter. Jane and her husband went above and beyond the call of duty lending and pitching a tent for us which they luckily had spare. It was close to tea time and raining so it would have been a nightmare for us to begin finding alternative accommodation for the night. Our whole camping trip was a happy one, apart from the panic of the tent pole snapping of course. The site was quiet and immaculately clean and it was so lovely to return to the campsite after a long days walk for a clean hot shower. Also great to tuck the baby up in bed and sit outside watching the stars burning a wood fire . We will definitely be returning next year. Thank you again folks xxx

Awesome Campsite

My partner and I stayed for three nights at this campsite at the start of June. Jane was very friendly and helpful. The site is lovely. Huge flat area to set up your tent and not over crowded. Firebaskets are available and it is lovely to sit around them in the evening. The shower / toilet block is very modern and always clean with lots of helpful local guides inside it including a daily weather update - although we found the weather a bit unpredictable. The site is about a mile and a half from Usk reservoir which is easy to walk to and about three miles from Red Kite reserve which we highly recommend visiting. The Showcaves are about a 20 mins drive away and again would definitely recommend a visit there. There is also lots of local walking with beautiful views nearby. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Wonderful Site!

My husband and I have just returned from two wonderful night at this site over May Bank Holiday.  The site is a little gem - nestled in a stunning part of Wales near Trecastle - ideally located for the beautiful Brecon Beacons, and situated 'off the beaten track' with only the sound of birds, lambs and the gentle stream to lull you to sleep! Jane and Nigel are wonderful warm hosts who make you feel very welcome.  The camping field itself is large, however as Jane and Nigel limit the number of campers it certainly does not feel crowded.  We prefer our 'basic' camping.....however this site has all that you need to satisfy daily needs....lovely showers, toilets (all extremely clean) and washing up facilities, along with fridge/freezer storage.  Thank you Jane and Nigel for making us feel so welcome and for sharing your 'home' with us!

2 wonderful nights

Just got back from a long Easter weekend in Wales, with 2 nights at Ynysfaen. We were incredibly lucky with the weather and that made for a truly magical stay. Jane gave us the warmest welcome and briefly showed us all we needed to see..... immaculate showers and toilets (free steaming hot showers not timer controlled), great undercover area for washing up (with washing up liquid and brush - just as well because we had forgotten ours!), fridge/freezer and the spring (the freshest drinking water ever), the recycling area and the store of fire baskets, logs and newspaper. And then the field..... beautifully flat, in a gorgeous valley and sparsely populated. With the soundtrack of sheep and birdsong it was an idyllic location. If you're looking for a quiet, well maintained, welcoming campsite please do not look anywhere else. It's perfectly located for Brecon, Pen y Fan and Llyn y Fan Fach (great walk and THE best views in the world). The abundance of adjectives should give you an idea of how we were blown away by Ynysfaen. Oh, and do not leave without the eggs and redcurrant jam - both as yummy as the campsite. We shall be back!

Great days by the Black Mountain

We stayed at Ynysfaen for 9 days in Sep 2013.  The campsite sits in a quiet valley a couple of miles southwest of Trecastle, which is part way between Llandovery and Brecon, in a beautiful rural location not far from some of the great climbs of the Beacons.

The site consists of one field about 150 yards long, which is almost entirely flat (very unusual for such a size) and surrounded by trees, which gives it a cloistered enclosed field and shelters it from the winds to some degree.  On the south side there is a small river, obscured by trees, but which creates a gentle aural backdrop, which sounded a bit like rain on occasion.  If the road is followed past the nearby reservoir, one can reach the area of Llandeusant, home to a lovely horseshoe walk.   We had plenty of space between our tent and our nearest neighbours; on the Saturday night there were probably a dozen tents on the field, but there was still a good space between tents.  There was no queue for the facilities, although there might be if it had been busier.  The grass of the meadow was mown close when we arrived and was mown again during our stay; after the mowing it felt like a carpet to the touch of bare feet.  You can light a fire and fire baskets are provided and the owners requests that you buy the wood from them; a bag was costing £3.

The most striking thing about the campsite is the quality and cleanliness of the facilities: in a purpose-built wooden block there are 3 WCs, 2 sinks and 3 shower stalls; there is also a table displaying useful books and brochures and Jane, the owner, copies out the BBC weather forecast for Wales on a daily business, a nice touch.  We have never seen a better standard of cleanliness than is present at Ynysfaen; it is truly exceptional and, because it is so clean, the campers tend to tidy up after themselves (as encouraged to do by the little signs the owners put up), so it becomes a virtuous circle.  On the back of the block, there is a covered washing-up sink, double draining board and table with running hot water.  Outside the toilet block, a few feet away, another hut contains a fridge/freezer.

Jane is a friendly presence around the site and is happy to stand and chat with the campers. There is nothing one can criticize about the site as it has all been thought through and executed really well.  Highly recommended.

Silver Fox

Camping at its best, excellent pitches, beautiful meadow, clean, safe. Eco-friendly, toilet and shower block, five star standard a credit to the owners. This site one the best we have camped in the passed 15years a great family gathering. With three tents, gazebo lovely campfire under the stars and new laid eggs each day. A fabulous time by all. Will return.

Warm & Welcoming

Words spoken by my son as he loved the atmosphere and the peace and quiet. Limiting the amount of campers helps with the overall ambience of the campsite. Facilities are excellent too as are the eggs  :-).  It was a perfect base for walking , exploring and geo-caching!    Definitely will be returning.

Peaceful escape

We stayed here for one night in August 2013 to see how our new beagle pup would tolerate camping. Jane was lovely, v approachable and friendly. Campsite had a real nice homely chilled feel to it. Toilets and showers were modern and immaculate and fresh treated spring water was available for free - delicious! Fresh eggs and homemade jam were available to buy also. A great campsite with fab facilities in a lush location; what more could you want?! We'll definitely be back.

Solitude at its best

We stayed two nights at the end of June 2013 and were thoroughly impressed with Ynysfaen. The owners were approachable and had truly done their best to make this a beautiful campsite.

The car park is situated about 30 meters in front of the campsite so you unload into one of the colourful wheelbarrows when you arrive. There are three loos and three showers in a wooden out building which sits behind the owners farm house and hear the top of the camping field.  Washing up is also available here, hot water is free and the owners had also thoughtfully provided soap, a cloth and a washing up brush :)

Our children enjoyed the garden and the riverbank area and we had a great campfire in the fire-basket provided to each pitch (provided purchasing wood for £5). We climbed Pen y fan and also visited some amazing waterfalls.  I'm sure we will be back. I would have given an extra star for more information on local shops or even better more produce available on site to buy.
