Ardwyn camping pod, situated up steps above the main camping area, facilities and car park, offers something a little bit different. Made by Microlodge in Scotland, who also made our toilet/shower units, this camping pod offers built-in beds with two comfortable foam mattresses (*see below). The pod has also been successfully occupied by 2 adults with 2 small infants, and 2 adults and 1 young child (*see below; occupies the whole pod). There is plenty of storage, a small electric panel radiator for cooler nights, a fan in warm weather, as well as lighting and electric sockets.Ideal for backpackers, older children who are part of a family group, and couples wanting a secluded romantic weekend break. There are beautiful views with the Black Mountains in the distance, and integrated seating along the front of the camping pod or a picnic bench where you can sit and enjoy the scenery, or use the BBQ fire bowl. If you have a hammock, there are two trees just above the pod that should be suitable for hanging it between. There is also space to pitch a small tent if required (book as an extra). This camping pod is also dog friendly.
The pod is located away from the main facilities, but at the bottom of the steps there's the shared toilet/shower washroom pods and the shared kitchen area, where you will find two washing up sinks (with hot water), a worktop, and two kettles, toasters and electric twin-hob hot plates along with two picnic benches.
*comes with two foam mattresses (double or twin). For children - bring an extra mattress to extend double bed to a triple bed, or to put on the floor between the twin beds.
** Best booked May - August as it is in an exposed location **

About Powys Pods
NearbyA mile down the road there's a horse riding centre (01497 851669). They offer half hour routes for kids and beginners and longer hacks for the more experienced. The local, heather-clad hills are covered in bridleways and it's a fantastic way to cover the ground. Also popular is a drive to the river Wye. Here you can hire canoes (07414 935965) and drift your way down stream, another great way to explore the area! For something a little more sedate, a drive to Hay-on-Wye leads to a wealth of good independent shops – particularly antique and book shops. The town also marks the northern edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, another real hub for outdoor pursuits. The Elan Valley is also well worth a visit, as well as the surrounding towns on the Welsh Border.
Food & DrinkBBQs are permitted and there's a large brick BBQ available for use. The nearest pub, The Roast Ox (01497 851398), can be found at Painscastle (4 miles away) and there is also a good bar and restaurant at Rhosgoch Golf Club (3 miles; 01497 851251). For the maximum choice head to Hay-on-Wye, or refer to the more extensive list provided in your pod.
