A privilege to camp here- absolutely stunning.
I think it is very generous of Sue-zi and team to share this incredible place! The site is ringed by rolling hills and the river bank, with horses grazing in the surrounding fields. The river is beautiful and so much fun as you can easily access it from the beach of smooth river rocks. The campsite is calm and quiet with so much space. It very much is wild camping so don’t expect big blocks of camping bathrooms etc, but the facilities that are there are immaculately clean and cleverly built. The buzzards and red kites soaring overhead add to the wild feel of the site. But when you leave the site the interesting town of Hay-on-Wye is just up the road and for book lovers it is a treasure trove! We loved this campsite and will be back. Thank you!
Perfect for wild swimmers and nature lovers!
We had a fabulous time on a lovely riverside pitch. The pitches are beautifully spaced out, each with a spot for a camp fire. Tall grasses between the mown spaces make it feel really private - you can hardly see the other campers when you look across the site. All you can hear is the rushing river and the wildlife. The river forms a deep pool at one end of the site so you can swim in a perfect setting while watching the birds, then allow the swift water to drift you back down stream to your tent. Magical! You can book a day of kayaking. The company launches from the site. You paddle down through Hay to Witney where they pick you up and bring you back. It is a delight. The showers and mains loos are quite a long walk up towards the farm yard - a small price to pay for the wild vibe. The washing up spot is a single sink with cold water so pretty basic. The balance is just right if you want peace and nature without sacrificing all the mod cons!
Really lovely experience at Digeddi
Sue-zi is a great host and her welcome was followed up by a really chilled, friendly atmosphere. Loads to do, it feels really wild whilst still having really clean and handy showers and toilets. We'll be returning again and again.
Tucked away with a friendly welcome, beautiful surroundings and decent facilities this was an ideal 2 night stay. The children could play down by the river whilst we took in the countryside. The shower and toilets were clean and well maintained, washing up accessible and the site didn't seem busy - even though many pitches were taken. Definitely booking up again :-)
Quiet, friendly, great hosts, perfect experience
Great, charming spot on the river. Spacious . Clean and suitable amenities , shower toilets etc. Campfire and dog friendly. Everybody was relaxed and helpful. Made for a great and relaxing stay for three days. Will definitely go back. Wildlife really interesting .
Beautiful, back to nature
We stayed in the French Roulotte caravan. Very clean, everything you needed in a compact space and with the most incredible views over the valley. We spent 3 nights and hiked up to Hay Bluff, paddle boarded on the river - although there had been a fair bit of rain and kayaking downriver might have been better as there was a fair current, but just paddling around the campsite there’s a lovely open calm area of river. Had a fire every night and the toilets were a short walk with a lovely shower and toilet in a horse box only shared with the gypsy round caravan and we had no issues with that. Waking up with a horse grazing through the window and having a drink watching the sunset over the black hills couldn’t have been more lovely despite the on and off rain (you are camping in England after all!) but hearing the raindrops on the roof in the Roulotte is quite atmospheric. You definitely felt an upgrade compared to a tent without losing the feeling of being right outside in nature in the middle of a beautiful part of the country. Would definitely come back! What a slice of heaven!
Beautiful spacious campsite
What a lovely place; views of the Black mountains on one side, and the River Wye on the other. The campsite has large grass pitches and we were really pleased to be offered one right on the banks of the river. Most of the site is meadow, filled with flowers and skylarks in June. The sun shone, the river sparkled and we had the best time. I recommend at least a half day's canoe hire down the Wye (we used Celtic Canoes) and a swim in the deeper parts of the river. There are lovely walks round Hay, only 5 minutes away by car. No wonder it is so popular!
The perfect setting to unwind
On our way home after a 5 night stay and just had to share our thoughts! We had such a wonderful time! We were greeted by Sue-zi on arrival and taken to the perfect pitch having been asked our preferences. Plenty of space between pitches separated by wildflower meadows. We could see the river, hear the river and put our canoe in from the site for a day on the river. The facilities are good and clean. Lovely hot showers. It's a working stud farm, great to see well cared for horses in the fields around ( plus a couple of donkeys and a goat). Open fires allowed and wood delivered daily if needed. Very helpful advice given on an excellent trekking centre. Couldn't have been more helpful. Also available tuition on kayaking skills by Awesome Dan!! (See his River strokes website) Feel thoroughly recharged! Will definitely be back before the end of the summer. Thanks Sue-zi and team.
Peaceful, relaxing retreat
We had such a great time at Digeddi - from the moment we were taken to a pitch next to the river, we felt on holiday. So great to have such space between the pitches, you aren't bothering anyone, and they aren't bothering you. We were able to book a canoe trip from the site for our second day and were dropped off back at the site at the end of our trip, so no need to move the car once we were there. Brilliant. Open fires and logs delivered to our pitch made it the perfect trip. Thank you
Blissful stay at Digeddi
We had a stay at Digeddi this week and it was our number one, favourite stop on our camper tour - and we have been to a lot. Sue-zi was lovely, really accommodating and really keen to ensure we got the most out of our stay, asking our preferences on what the perfect spot for us would be and then taking us right to it. The site is blissfully quiet, with the gentle sounds of the wildlife, the trickling river at the bottom of the site and pitches sensitively placed in wildflower meadows, we could not have asked for more, we simply cannot rate Digeddi highly enough. The facilities are great too. Really clean, plenty of access to toilets and showers and good washing up facilities. Loved, loved, loved it here - a 5/5 experience for us and will definitely be heading back. Thank you Sue-zi.
Peaceful, helpful, enjoyable, camping in wonderful location.
On arrival we were received with a warm and smiling host (Suezi). We were led to our pitch and asked if we needed anything. Suezi tries to fit your pitch to your need. The hosts are knowledgeable about services close to the site. We wanted to go horse riding and Suezi was able to give us a number. Facilities are more than adequate. However we visited at a quiet time. This may not be the case in busy times. We loved being beside the river and camping on a peaceful site surrounded by nature.
Wonderful accommodation, staff and location
We stayed in the French Roulotte Gypsy caravan which was delightful. All the amenities we needed without being cluttered. There was loads of space and fields immediately around the caravan which made it feel like our own little campsite. The easy access to the river was great for us and our kayak and gave us a chance to view the rest of the site. All of it was very well laid out and managed with loads of space. The whole team were very friendly and accommodating. Would definitely come back!
Unbeatable riverside camping, beautiful surroundings and super clean facilities
What an absolute gem! Beautiful campsite, so well maintained with wildflowers and buttercups for days. Flying geese from across the river evening. The dream. Our toddler loved padding in the shallows and having lots of space on the pitch to run around. Toilets and showers were super clean and right next to horses, a bearded little goat and inquisitive donkeys. Really lovely hosts, very grateful for the support and morale boosts in relation to our van breakdown issues on arrival!
Best campsite I’ve ever stayed on
If you’re wondering whether or not to book with the kind folk at Digeddi then don’t hesitate, you won’t be disappointed. The site is so expansive, pitches are well distanced so you never feel too squashed in with your neighbours. You have the choice of pitching in the upper field with a river view, a pitch on the river bank itself or a pitch set back from the river surrounded by grass meadow and backed by a lovely view of Hay Bluff and the black mountains. The river itself runs over cobbles and is beautiful and clean and is perfect for paddling with kids or a little wild swim. Facilities do not disappoint either - there are portaloos closer to the camp ground but a short walk away (depending where your pitch is) there are 2 horse boxes converted into nice hot shower rooms plus 2 separate toilet and sink rooms. There are a couple outdoor washing up sinks and drinking water stations on site but note there is no hot water for washing up. We camped with our 3 year old and dog and we had an amazing time, this is such a peaceful site.
Roomy camping by the river
This campsite is in a beautiful location on the Wye river near Hay. The pitches are incredibly spacious and there are clean toilets and showers. There are a few portaloos nearer to the pitches, as the toilets and showers are a bit further up from the river. Dogs are allowed, don't be put off by the very barky dogs at the entrance. You can canoe from the site if you bring your own canoe, otherwise Want To Canoe are great just down the road in Hay. The owners will not arrange for you to rent canoes from their site. You have to take all your rubbish and recycling with you, but there are recycling facilities in Hay at the public parking lot. If you need to get supplies, don't leave it too late, there really is only one grocery store around (Coop in Hay) and shops are not open all the time. The owners were also helpful to us in getting a new gas bottle at a nearby caravan site. All in all, a lovely spot to camp with the whole family including the dog.
Relaxing and beautiful location
Had a fantastic five nights here over the summer three adults, a teenager and a dog. We were given the choice of two pitches and after viewing choose one with easy access to the river. My husband and daughter went in everyday and my son went in a couple of times (have water shoes with you). This is a basic site but being able to have a campfire is what we like. The horsebox showers are brilliant and had lovely hot water every time we used them. The main toilets are clean especially with only two of them. Had a fantastic holiday completely relaxing with a lovely large pitch with the river running by. Would recommend if you are ok with a basic site.
Lovely location but services are lacking
The location is gorgeous and the pitches are spacious and secluded but the toilet/shower situation is not good. There was only one working shower during our stay so we had to queue and the flushable toilets are a long walk from the campsite. The portaloos near our pitch got very smelly as it was a warm weekend. A word of warning - the river is not particularly clean (scum on water, rubbish on banks) and smells a bit funky. I'm an experienced wild swimmer but I didn't fancy it! So if you're here to swim you might want to pick another site. There's also no recycling, just a skip for rubbish and no hot water for washing up.
Exactly what we wanted for a wild getaway
Beautiful riverside site and close to gorgeous hay on wye. We had a perfect evening cooking over the campfire (great logs provided), relaxing under the moon and stars and enjoying a tranquil nights sleep to the sound of the river, before watching the sunrise over the hills the next day and spotting wildlife. This place was the perfect balance of back to nature therapy for us, with nearby facilities but enough space to feel like we were away from it all, we’ll definitely be back!
Will definitely be going back!
We had a lovely 3 night stay here, we had a secluded pitch near the river. The toilets and showers were really clean and everyone at the site was really helpful and friendly, even coming to our pitch to see if we needed extra wood for the fire. As it was our first stay we only booked 3 nights but will be going back for longer next time, hopefully the weather will be warm enough for some wild swimming in the river.
That 'wild' feeling all around...
We loved this campsite - although less of a campsite and more of a 'wild' site which suited us and our two dogs down to the ground! With a large grassy 'pitch' riverside, we didn't have far to carry our paddle board's before we found ourselves drifting on the beautiful, scenic river Wye. Never feeling overlooked by other campers, the space was plentiful with a private feeling. Our dogs could run about closely and freely within our area without having to be tied up to our camper. The fire pit was the perfect evening accompaniment to relax in front of with sounds of nature all around us such as birdsong and the rushing river. The facilities were creatively thought about, making showering in a converted horse box quite unique - always clean and well maintained. An absolute gem of a find!
Stopped for 2 nights at Digeddi Campsite and what a wonderful 2 nights its was. Pitch was just behind the river and was really private and really big , each pitch had its own firepit and there was a nightly delivery of wood if required. Suzi and Pete were superb hosts and really got us out of a hole when the car battery had gone flat and were down within 5 mins to give us a jumpstart. It was our first time camping but wont be the last at this beautiful back to nature site. The sounds of the river as your sleeping and unbridled views across the Black Montains made for a wonderful relaxing weekend and our youngest just loved splashing in the river......we will 100% be back at this site.
Freedom, fresh air and relaxation
We spent 4 nights at Digeddi. It was our second visit to this unique site. The owners are friendly and so helpful. As we had two very small children with us we chose not to pitch near the river. We chose the field furthest from the river but which was only a 5 minute walk away. As most people want to camp next to the water we had the field almost to ourselves which allowed the 3 year old and 20 month old campers freedom to run around the field as much as they wanted. They also enjoyed the walk to the river to play on the pebble beach. In the evenings the adults relaxed by the campfire enjoying the wonderful views across the river and down the valley and watching the sun set while the birds flew low over the fields. The site is very well organised. There was a daily delivery of camp fire wood, which was very convenient, and the owner visited the toilets every morning to check they were clean and well stocked. The large sink for washing dishes (or muddy toddler clothes) was convenient. It didn't have hot water but boiling a kettleful of water was easy enough on the fire and it wasn't a problem. We had a wonderful time and will definitely be booking again in future.
Very relaxing and beautiful campsite!
Our stay at Digeddi was great! The location is beautiful; the Black Mountains are in the distance and the river runs along the bottom of the camping field, which was amazing to walk along and paddle in. Also, the generously sized and spaced out pitches created an the atmosphere that made it easy to relax and enjoy your surroundings. Would love to come back and stay again.
Beautiful back-to-basics campsite in a stunning setting with friendly owners
Lovely, laid-back atmosphere and very family-friendly. We were given a great spot right on the river Wye, with a pretty meadow around us. Quite a trek to the toilets and showers, and the facilities are fairly basic so wouldn't suit everyone. But we had a great time. July 2019.
Definitely our kind of site.
What an absolute gem of a setting, at the foot of the Brecons and on the banks of the Wye. This is a good size informal site with plenty of space and a very relaxed approach. There were quite a few in during our stay but the place was extremely peaceful, a very tranquil setting. What a great idea having the showers in horse boxes. Now, the best thing about the site. The owner is a real pleasure to talk to, very friendly and very upfront. Don’t change Suezi, one of the warmest welcomes we have had at any site. The one drawback, being right on the banks of the river the dog was on at me every fifteen minutes “Come on, let’s go swimming (well paddling in her case)”, still she slept well during our stay judging by her snoring! Back in October
Beautiful setting, friendly staff
Brilliant setting overlooking the river with direct access. Showers are some of us best I’ve had camping. Really helpful and friendly owners. Highly recommended. Will be visiting again soon
Great spot - don't be put off by the entrance
Camping right on the river in beautifully tended meadow is fabulous. Don't be put off when you arrive - it is a working stables and the entrance is a bit ropey - but you drive through that to the idillic camping beyond. No hot water for wash-up is a bit of a shame, but showers are new and lovely.
Nice and friendly setting
Lovely location by the river Wye. We did have trouble finding the place from the main road as the sign shows River Camping only on one side and we were looking for Digeddi Camping. The children had a fabulous time but it is true that there were only two working toilets and two showers which were a little distance if you pitch by the river. Facilities were clean. Perhaps compost loos for those camping further away would be a solution? Also, re washing up basins, it would be handy if there was some hot water and if they were covered. The experience overall was very positive though despite the weather! Thank you.
Spacious reconnection to nature
What a wonderful campsite that starts from the warm friendly and informal greeting as soon as you drive in. The pitches are really well spread apart so you never feel over looked by others (you could be camping on your own). Easy access to the river is a real plus, just watch the canoeists floating by or wade in for a wonderful wild swim (easy access and most of the river bed shallow enough to stand and pebbly). Just a couple of porta-loos around the site but they are kept very clean and nice toilet and showers up by the gate. This really isn’t an issues as it is camping after all and everything is clean and shower nice a hot. It is a working horse farm so lots of horses around and I guess those with young children and dogs should be mindful of that but certainly not put off. I will certainly add Digeddi to my favourites list and will be back often either just to stay or to use it as a stepping stone to further into Wales. Thanks to all 🙏
Nice but Expensive
Location and outlook is great. Friendly owners. There were only two showers and two toilets. Very clean and tidy. No problem queuing whilst we were there but I can imagine there would be queues during busy periods. There were additional portaloos in the lower fields but these were out of action whilst we were there. No hot water to wash up and the two washing up sinks were uncovered. £12.50 per person per night for all aged 12 and over. Expensive considering basic facilities.
A beautiful place to camp
My 5 year old son and I camped for a night on 25th May. The welcome was friendly. We pitched right by the river and spent time exploring by the water. It’s great to be able to have a ground fire unlike lots of other sites. The washing, showering and toilet facilities are adequate. We had a great time and would recommend it.
Beautiful setting for a campsite. We camped right next to the river in a plot that was perfect for the two tents we had. It was a bit of a walk to the portaloos and showers. The facilities were very clean but there was only one shower. Saying that we never had to wait. The pub nearby (which for us was a big selling point ) had unfortunately closed 8 weeks ago so it was a bit further for pubs and restaurants. Suezi helped hook us up with canoe hire and a great taxi firm. The team at the campsite all seemed really nice and did a daily wood delivery service if you wanted fire wood.
Spacious, well located campsite with helpful owners
I camped here with my friend and her boy during a very hot sunny period in July. The campsite is large with segregated areas that will accommodate several tents. The segregation allowed a bit more of a feel of not being on a large site and it feeling a bit more cosy. The real bonus at the site is the river of course. It was especially welcome as it was so hot! I understand that much of the time this will not be the case, but it is still nice to look at from the tent if you pitch near it in colder months. All day long we were seeing canoeists and kayakers wafting along, and much to our amusement, plenty capsized right in front of us. We canoed ourselves too and it was a wonderful experience, very much worth it. We used the company: 'want to canoe?' Where we were camped near the river, the closest loos were portaloos. These got very smelly as it was a busy period and hot, but they were always clean and much better when less people and cooler. There are other (much nicer) flush loos, and also showers near the entrance. It's a bit of a way to walk from where we were, so we used the closer toilets or used our bicycles to get about. You do have to be very aware of the horses on site though when driving or walking about. It was lovely to see them running about in the field behind us. The owners were very chilled out, helpful and always friendly. They helped us when we were looking for places to visit or eat. The showers we used were very cute and well looked after. The water was hot and the flow just fine. We enjoyed our stay there, it is a quiet location. Of course you can't predict who you will be camping next to, but there are a number of camping spot options that help mitigate the chances of being unfortunate enough to camp near noisy campers.
Great weekend at Digeddi
We stayed in the Bow Top Caravan for the bank holiday weekend - a great experience from start to finish. Songs around the camp fire, an easy walk into Hay through the lanes (best to avoid the main road) and our very own fancy shower facilities, shared with the Roulotte. Suezi & team were very welcoming. Well worth a visit.
Great camping for family, friends and time alone
Fantastic wild camping at Digeddi Wildlife Camping. Beautiful location with direct access to the River Wye. They have several fields and meadows, with just a handful of pitches available at any one time. i.e. they allow no more than one or two pitches in each field, so that you get a sense of space, and freedom and isolation, rather than row upon row of 6x6m pitches. We were there in the Summer Holidays, and out of sight of all the other pitches. We had direct access to the River, which the kids loved, and spent hours running around, playing with the water and rocks. My brother stayed in the Gypsy Caravan, and had a very relaxing time. The caravan on the hill looks equally appealing. There are 2 very nicely kept toilets that were always clean, a standard shower for most campers which was equally clean with unlimited hot water, and a really posh shower for users of the Hypsy and Roulette Caravan. Logs are available to purchase for £5 a bag, which can last a couple of nights even when chatting well into the morning. They have firepits in each pitch. All in all, a fabulous 5 nights. Very close to Hay on Wye, canoing, horse-riding and hill walking. Also great for groups. Owners will happily reserve you a field suitable for groups of around 16.. perhaps more.. I'm not sure. Ultimately, it's about being close to nature, with good friends, around a good camp fire, forgetting about work.
Great location, facilities a bit lacking.
Great location by the river, peaceful, not too busy and they allow campfires all which was great. The downside is the facilities are a little too basic for the money they charger. 2 portaloos closest were out of order the whole time, so had to walk back up to stables to use 2 there, which were nice but got a little busy at times. Plus washing and water facilities were a basic outside sink and tap next to pony paddock full of manure and we saw rats running around a couple of times - not the most hygienic for washing and getting your water - but then they do advertise it as a 'wildlife' site. In summary great for a short stay, facilities a bit too basic for a longer one.
being near the water
A lot of camp sites in recent years have banned camp fires. Not at digeddi, we enjoyed having a camp fire on two occasions. Our children loved it and we roasted bags of marshmallows. The atmosphere was great, very peaceful . Overall it was an excellent stay and i would definitely return for another stay.
Camping by the river
Lovely peaceful campsite in a beautiful setting that grew on us every day we were there. We were all sad to leave by the end and decided we would definitely come back again. Loved the horses and thistles, distant mountains and going to sleep listening to the river - perfect setting and friendly owners. Thanks!
Beautiful and Tranquil
We had a wonderful 4 days here. We camped at the riverside surrounded by greenery and wildlife. My children loved running round the field, playing on the pebble beach and swimming in the river. Relaxing round the campfire of an evening was made very easy with bags of logs delivered right to our fire pit. We were all sad to leave and will definitely be coming here again.
Beautiful location. Facilities could be better
What a location!! We loved the site location on the river, lots of space and privacy, really beautiful place to camp. Gave it 3 stars as for the money (£40 a night for family of 4) I would’ve expected clean and usable toilets. 5 min walk to the portaloos which were dirty and full (and closed!) from the 2nd night. Then a further 5 min walk to 2 flushable loos which were okay. But meant 2 loos for the whole site. Only 1 shower available which was lovely, but generally a queue. Wasn’t obvious about where to hire canoes etc. Could’ve been more clear. Also still not sure what we were supposed to do with rubbish - ended up taking away with us which was a bit gross in this heat. All in all really lovely site but Would’ve expected better for the high price.
Very peaceful and tranquil
Lovely place to relax with nature all around you. The river is perfect for kids and adults to play and swim in. The pitches are great, lush green grass and flat. There is lots of space so you dont feel on top of anyone else that is there. Kids loved the freedom and all the space to play in. Views are awesome and the fact they do an evening wood delivery is great and at £5 a bag is great value. 2 downsides for us. One was the distance to the 2 portaloos which were sadly out of order for some of the time so had to trek up to the main part for the loo and the queue for the shower, as there is only 1 shower for the whole of the campsite albeit a fab quirky, hot, powerful shower but another shower or 2 would make this place perfect.
the beautiful location was this campsites saving grace, unfortunately the facilities were lacking, only one shower which was situated in a horse box, and we didn't ever get to see or use it as it was always occupied, on this very busy campsite more showers are a must, the washing facilities were also lacking ,only one cubicle which was marked as ladies, therefore the men only had portoloos. Such a shame as it could be so much more.
Beautiful site with spacious pitches
We arrived late on Friday night but had a warm welcome from Sue-zi. The pitches here are great - plenty of room, and very well spaced with tall meadow grass between them which offers a fantastic degree of privacy - I think this would be true even when the site is full and I hope it's something that the owners are able to preserve in the future. It was great to be able to have a campfire. The shower was fantastic. Other facilities are basic (portaloo toilets and a cold water tap for washing up) but that's fine. Hay-on-Wye is a pleasure to visit, and we're looking forward to returning soon.
Relaxed, friendly beautiful site
This was our second visit as a group of 5 families. The staff are really helpful and friendly, the site is beautiful, very spacious and the kids enjoyed the freedom to play. Wonderful weekend, we will be back again.
Perfect retreat , everyone made us feel so welcome but left you to it once you were settled in . Every detail was perfect & we loved every minute
The perfect campsite.
Beautiul location and brilliant hosts
Our three nights at Digeddi were amazing. Starting with the negative points, there was one. There is only one shower for the whole site, albeit a very nice shower in a disused horse box. On a positive note, the location was exceptional with plenty of space for everyone. We pitched our tent by our car in our own space, big enough for a small group 30 metres from the river. The pitch was flat and came with own fire pit. It is a 5 min drive to the beautiful town of Hay on Wye and supermarket and pubs. Our host Sue-zi was exceptionally accommodating and helpful. I would definitely return and recommend to others including my friends who I hope will join us next time.
Camping like it should be
An idyllic few days camped right on the riverbank. The campsite is lovely...horses, donkeys, swans, ducks, birds and amazing views. We swam in the river twice a day, walked into Hay (beautiful three mile walk around the quiet way) for a nice bar meal and felt thoroughly chilled out. Pete, Sue-zi and their family were really friendly and helpful, popped round to offer logs for the fire pits and helped us find the perfect pitch which was nice and flat, five min walk from the loos and shower but far enough away to feel like we had the whole, place to ourselves. No kids, no noise, no vehicles..perfect!
Great location & views
Had a great weekend with so much to do in the surrounding area the location and scenery are amazing
What A Stay!!!!
My husband, 2 year old daughter and I have just returned from a short break at Digeddi and we're already wishing we were going back. What a beautiful place. So quiet, surrounded by very friendly, inquisitive horses which our daughter loved. We stayed in the French Roulotte and it was very well provided for. We bought some of our own camping supplies thinking we might need them but no. Perfect space, lovely comfortable bed, our own garden (which is bigger than ours at home). Undercover decking for bad weather (we had wall to wall sunshine), BBQ over looking the rolling fields and river. The horsebox shower was superb and thank you so much to Suezi and co for accommodating us and being utterly brilliant. Fantastic hosts.
The kids had a whale of a time as they can pretty much do what they want as they had the space and they loved being able to see and pat the horses. The views from the top were spectacular. Swimming in the river was great fun and being able to have a camp fire made a big difference. As others have said, the facilities are basic but they are spotless. The shower was really fun.
If I could give 6 stars I would!
Suezi and Pete are brilliant, nothing is too much trouble for them. Always chatty and friendly. The toilets are basic but spotlessly clean. The shower (a converted horse box!) is a joy, probably the best campsite shower I have ever used. The site is spectacular, especially as it is part of a working stud farm. We set up on the top field (by choice), yes you are not by the river but the views are stunning and we had the field to our self for the week! If Suezi is not about, the parrot will always say hello! Remember, this is “wild camping” so don’t expect rows of tents in neat lines and massive toilet / shower blocks, I shudder just thinking about that sort of site! I have not mentioned the surrounding area as other reviewers have already done so but it is a great place to visit. We are looking forward to coming back as soon as possible.
Amazing family camping experience!
This place is awesome! We previously camped at a place that had a pizza van, bakery, juice bar, coffee bar, restaurant, camp shop and all mod conveniences... so we wanted to try something a bit closer to wild camping. Digeddi provides the basics we needed (shower/toilets/water/firewood) which meant we got the 9almost) self-sufficiency we were after. We got a pitch close to the river. While we were there, the met office issued a yellow rain warning, which meant there was a risk of the river swelling and flooding the lower pitches. However, Suezi and Pete were fantastic in keeping us up to date on water levels and offered us many helpers in the event we had to move. Thankfully this wasn't necessary but they handled it exceptionally and kept our minds at rest so we could enjoy the week with the kids! Everything mentioned on the Cool camping website for this campsite is spot on. Local amenities are great and Hay-on-Wye is a beautiful little village with everything you might need. Easy drive to horse trekking in the hills and a canoeing on the Wye so thoroughly recommend for families. Can't wait to go back!
Wild Riverside Camping with Luxurious Facilities!
This is easily one of my favourite campsites. It's set on a working stud farm, so there are loads of horses in paddocks and stables, and sheep everywhere! The people who run the place are really friendly and helpful, too. We stayed in the wild camping area, right on the banks of the river. Campfires on the ground are allowed and Suezi came by every day with firewood to buy. We were a large group of 12, but there was enough space that we were able to sit around a campfire each night without disturbing other guests. It's quite a walk to the toilets and showers but it's worth it. The toilets are clean and warm and always have toilet paper. Then there's a shower cubicle, with changing area and a powerful shower with endless hot water. Easily the best camping shower, ever. It get's better, though! There's also a glamping shower, which also contains a shower and changing area and toilet, but this shower is almost certainly better than your shower at home! I've never seen anything like it. The campsite is about 2 miles from Hay, though I don't recommend walking down the main road. You can walk about 3 miles through the countryside, which is a much nicer walk. Hay is also lovely. There's also the black mountains nearby and Offa's Dyke, so lots of good walking, and the campsite can help you arrange a canoeing trip with a local firm who will pick you up and drop you off as part of the trip. We have a brilliant day's canoeing this way. The setting of this campsite is the strongest point, I think. Watching the sunrise in the valley was reason enough to camp here. Highly recommended. We will be back :)
Firstly we don't normally wold camp and this trip was our neighbours first camp out. So we wanted to be near the loos and found for us our awning and transporter the hill site was a better location. The loos and water in easy distance didn't mean a compromise on setting. Yes it wasn't right next to the river which is the great appeal of this site but I have to say the view was still fantastic. We were greater by friendly laid back Suzi who gave us a choice of pitches. You have to drive through a working stables to get on site and the donkey is very keen to great you. We woke to the sound of sheep surrounding us in the morning before they took themselves off down the hill. It is a bit of a walk to the one shower £2.50 a go but it is a really nice shower situated in a horse box. Very clever. Would be nice to have a couple more though. All in all basic, beautiful, friendly, dog happy and fire pit friendly camp site near lovely Hay On Wye.
Me and my pal have just returned from two fantastic nights at Digeddi, staying in the French Roulotte overlooking the fields and river. We had a really wonderful time. The site is really accessible for Hay-on-Wye (five mins by car) which for us was a great base for a hilly long walk around the countryside, but also has the famous bookshops, festival, and lovely cafes. But really - this site could be in the middle of nowhere and be perfect - we could easily have spent the whole time on the site. Staying in the Roulotte you have special access to the most luxurious (hot!!!) shower, toilet and sink in a converted horsebox - a real luxury - yes it is a short walk away from the Roulotte but a real luxury compared to camping 'proper'! We had a magical time watching the sunset, watching the activity of the farm from our pitch looking over the rest of the site. Being woken up by the sound of pheasants, lambs and playing horses. Just perfect. Very functional space inside - comfy bed, good kitchen facilities, with a plug in electric stove that we used for cooking - BBQ would be possible but as someone else said maybe good to bring your own charcoal and even firelighters - for us having a log fire outside for two nights in April was great! Lastly, Susie our host was super friendly, made us feel really at home, welcome and comfortable - very communicative and helpful. Thank you very much - we had a really fantastic time. Helen & Lisa
wonderful site, wonderful people!
We stayed at Digeddi over the bank holiday weekend. It is a beautiful, natural site, with plenty of space and a wonderful location. The stars on the first night were stunning, as we enjoyed sitting around our campfire. There are few facilities at Digeddi, but what there is are clean. We took our kayak and launched 20m from our tent, and enjoyed watching many others messing about on the river as they passed. The Children enjoyed seeing the horses, and swans, and the freedom such a space provides. There is a lovely looking gypsy caravan if you need more comfort with a river side location. What we cannot fault is the lovely welcome you get at Digeddi, they Suezi, Pete, J.D and co. certainly go above and beyond to ensure you enjoy your stay. Our holiday nearly didn't begin when our car broke down 10 miles from the site, just as it was getting dark. They were wonderful, driving out to locate our car (with boat on top!) and tow us into site. So our weekend was saved, and they also put us in touch with a local garage who transported our car home (and on a bank holiday weekend!!). We will definitely be returning, once the car is fixed!!!
A lovely campsite - close to nature in a gorgeous setting. We parked our van right on the riverbank. There are toilets and showers which are a five minute walk from the river bank. This is definitely a wild camping site at the moment although they do have plans to add more facilities. However, we loved it just as it was. There is paddling and swimming in the river; local towns to visit; a swimming pool in Hay that you can book for an hour for £10!. All in all excellent.
Trying to find great campsites is not easy. As the saying goes, 'One man's meat is another man's poison'. You can read reviews on the various camping websites and here and still not really know if the place is going to be right for YOU. With the sun due to shine for a couple of days and my kids off school, i decided on a last minute run to the sun in our campervan and jumped online to find a campsite in the Wye Valley area. We only have a few requirements when camping and these generally help us get something that suits us... Campfires allowed, dogs allowed, campervans allowed and near water... with those filters we generally get some decent sites. Not always, but mostly. Quiet, friendly no frills, no caravans. And Digeddi or Wildlife Camping is exactly that - AND MORE! Situated on the banks of the Wye, the picturesque site is pretty big. But not big as in crowded, big as in has loads of space for the visitors to be able to camp away from other people... It's the nearest thing you will get to wild camping whilst still having access to a few facilities. But that is it... a few facilities. And they're not exactly on your door step! There are 3 toilets and a shower. All of which were immaculately clean. But a good 5 minute walk from our pitch, and probably more like 7/8 from the furthest pitch! There was a tap for water, and I think the owner Sue-Zi mentioned a fridge and freezer. So that just left us, and the 5 or six other sets of campers with nothing other than a bit of space, a bit of quiet, a lovely meandering river just a few feet from our doors, and a clear night sky... oh and a ground firepit. On the way home, we all agreed that Digeddi is the nicest campsite we have visited. my 7 year old (eldest) daughter summed it up best... I loved the river, it was great to be able to go where we wanted and not have loads of people around. With all that said and done, I have a feeling that Digeddi may well not be the same when we go back - and we will. The owners have in the last few weeks added the campsite to cool camping. And following a number of 5 star reviews, they are expecting a bumper bank holiday weekend... I look forward to seeing the reviews over the net couple of weeks and hope that the guys manage to retain the charm it had for us when they get discovered by more of us!!
Kingfishers with breakfast
Made a last minute decision to stay here having read the Cool Camping description and we were not disappointed. Suezi took us to a beautiful, sheltered riverside pitch with not another tent in sight (or sound) and a couple of swans (more on them later) gliding past on the river. We had the company of three horses in the field to the rear of us, but otherwise we had the place to ourselves. It truly was wildlife camping with so many birds on and around the river, grey heron, little egret, cormorant, buzzard, thrush, long tailed tits and kingfisher - seeing these brightly coloured birds darting between perches over the river, blue and orange glinting in the sunlight and reflecting in the calm water, was one of the highlights of our stay. Suezi and her family were very friendly and helped us settle in nicely. Most of the other human contact on the site came from waving good morning to the canoeists taking a break from paddling as they drifted past our spot. The swans provided considerable entertainment as just next to our pitch was a steep bank that a pair of swans used to ascend from the river several times a day and join the horses grazing in the field behind us. It could be quite startling at times to find a huge swan just next to the tent, but added to the general wildness of the location. It was a great setting for campfires (logs delivered to your tent) as the sun set behind the further bank of the river. No light pollution meant lots of stars were visible right down to the horizon so you could see lots of constellations and the Milky Way. All-in-all one of our best camping experiences in the UK.
Cooler than cool!
What a find! This has to be the best camping experience we have had. Our 5 night stay in the beautiful Gypsy caravan was warm, comfortable and fully equipped. We had our own private view of the river, where we sat for hours watching and listening to the river birds - and canoeists navigating the gentle rapids, with evenings spent cooking on the barbeque and burning logs on the fire basket, all supplied by Digeddi, with amazing night skies devoid of light pollution. As well as the comfort of the bow top caravan, the quirky bathroom (...a converted horse trailer...) has the most amazing shower and cleanliness not usually seen when camping - a real treat! There's plenty to do in the area if you can pull yourself away from Digeddi, Hay-on Wye is lovely book town and canoeing down the river Wye is a must! Digeddi itself is peaceful and welcoming. Suezi, Pete and family take care to make sure the area you choose to camp in remains well spaced away from others to allow for privacy so you can appreciate your surroundings rather than listen to neighbours. This is a perfect retreat for nature lovers, walkers, artists, photographers, fishing etc, not to mention horse lovers (...like myself...) as it has the extra added bonus of being on a very well run family stud farm. We received a really warm welcome on arrival which remained throughout our stay - Suezi even took me to see her stunning horse which was a real treat. The whole place has a family feel, not at all commercial, it is as if Suezi and Pete want to share the magic of Digeddi with everyone. It was very difficult to leave it all behind but we will definitely return to try out the French roullotte!
