Bell tents and spacious pitches in the Teme Valley, close to the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
It is no coincidence that By the Red Phone Box's name sounds like it was lifted straight from a children's book. Offering a spot of magic in the headland of a hayfield, this campsite provides secluded glamping along with stripped-back camping on the edge of the Teme Valley. Husband-and-wife team Ian and Emma believe guests will be as taken with their site's natural surroundings as they are, and with its positioning in view of Clee Hill along with all the accompanying wildlife, it's not difficult to see why. This site looks more reminiscent of a scene from The Wind in the Willows than your average camping destination.

By the Red Phone Box boasts two furnished, spacious six-metre bell tents, lovingly named Evelyn and Lillian, each situated in their own small field. The former is nestled within three hedges and tucked away behind a fence, offering a distinctive woodland feel complemented by its dark timber furniture. Lillian is in more open ground, but still offers a sense of seclusion thanks to its distance from campers and car park. Privacy in both tents is further guaranteed by their own bathroom and kitchen facilities. Hot showers and compost loos are hidden away in unique converted horse trailers, while a two-burner gas hob, dining set, and necessary utensils are also provided in an outdoor kitchen.

Ian and Emma wanted guests to be able to share the picturesque location of By the Red Phone Box, while also ensuring that their carbon footprint remained as low as possible. As such, the site is off-grid aside from mains water. There's no electricity here and bottled gas is used to heat the showers and hob. Aside from the bell tents' personal showers, there is also a separate shepherd's hut containing a bathroom for the site's three available camping pitches, all of which are located within a spacious field with uninterrupted views of the surrounding countryside.

Local seasonal produce can be purchased from the on-site shop, along with wood and kindling for the bell tents' provided fire pits. You can even grab yourself some breakfast or book a spot of afternoon tea. To further ensconce yourself in your wonderfully wild surroundings, take a trip down to the neighbouring Commonwood Farm, which allows guests to enjoy a picnic in its ancient perry pear orchard. It's all so quaint that you'll soon feel like a character lifted from the pages of that children's book.

Social Distancing Measures

We have a full covid risk assessment displayed on our web site, good to go accreditation, a comprehensive sanitizing and cleaning schedule and this year we have built 2 new bathrooms, so that the glamping each has a private bathroom, and there are only 3 camping pitches with a shared bathroom and washing up area, the only other shared area is the parking, there is so much space to move around,  there is not need to have close contact, we operate a 15 minutes gap between shower use, there is simply a clock, on leaving the shower the time is set to the current time, the shower is not to be used until 15 minutes has elapsed. The toilet and shower are separate, so again reducing the foot fall through the door,  There are hand sanitizing points though out the site. QR codes are displayed to check in, on the track and trace system, every time guests return to the site. We hold track and trace details for 21 days after check out.

Wow, you've got to stay here.

We stayed in Lilian and the set up was great. Quiet area of a field with visible sheep for neighbors but nothing else. The kitchen area was covered, so if it rained you could still eat. The bathroom in the horsebox was amazing. No worries about lack of hot water, or power shower it was better than home! The bed was comfortable and the space inside was great if you need to be inside. Overall it was the best glamping we've done and would definitely recommend and return.

Perfect in every way

Had an absolutely wonderful two nights here. Booking was straightforward and communication with Emma was very easy. The site is quiet, surrounded by beautiful countryside, ideal for walks or cycling round the lanes. Shower and toilet facilities were not only really quirky, but absolutely immaculate. Emma was very welcoming and a lovely host. I cycled round to the farmhouse and collected my afternoon tea! What a lovely add on! Do treat yourselves! The quirky little phone box library made me smile, and had a lovely little selection of books to borrow. Would definitely return here again. Thanks Emma xx
