A family friendly campsite situated in the heart of the beautiful Shropshire Hills

There are plenty of reasons to visit Brook House Farm. Firstly, this camping gem comes nestled in the middle of beautiful Shropshire countryside, yet still close to the tiny ancient towns of Church Stretton and Much Wenlock. This family-friendly spot also boasts a variety of accommodation - from a self-catering cottage and glamping pods to traditional tent camping and even a few spaces for campervans and caravans. We also love it's close to many great things to see and do, like the wonderfully-preserved Stokesay Castle, and best of all it's only a three-minute walk to the village pub!

The camping field is home to some very generously sized, immaculately kept, and well-spaced-out pitches, with ample room for ball games and other activities in between. For those seeking a touch of comfort, there are two camping pods – a luxury pod and a family pod – both of which sleep up to two adults and two children. Each pod comes carpeted, fully insulated, and with electric sockets, a USB charging point and LED lighting. Perfect for walkers and cyclists who want to rest weary legs after days exploring the stunning Shropshire Hills, the Luxury pod even comes with storage cabinets, a kettle and small camping stove, a double bed (bedding is extra), and two outdoor reclining chairs.

Despite such quiet seclusion in the countryside, Brook House Farm isn't too far from civilization. Church Stretton and Much Wenlock are appealing small towns – the latter with an evocative ruined priory – and the larger town of Ludlow, a few miles to the south, is also a major draw, with its castle, food festivals and wanderable old centre. Spend a week here, and you won't run out of things to do; in fact you'll probably want to stay longer.

Modern, large, walk-in showers with plenty of hot water, cold water wash basins , cold water washing-up area, recycling – plus there's an information board with local attractions. There is a large communal fire pit by the brook – itself a good place for the kids to paddle and look for cray fish. Please be aware only the luxury pod & Yurts has a double bed and a storage furniture, kettle, and reclining chairs. Sorry no dogs onsite.

Suitable For

Those who enjoy a peaceful back to basics small secluded camp site. From small, one-man tents to large family tents, and small campervans. There are 2 pods for glampers, and 2 Yurts. No large groups, but you can hire the whole place for weddings and family get togethers.

There's a tennis court in the village just a few minutes' walk away, along with a children's play area and playing field. Further afield, lively Church Stretton and medieval Much Wenlock are just a few minutes away by car, and both are well worth a visit, as is Bishop's Castle, just a few miles from the Wales border, and the regional foodie hub of Ludlow, with its picturesque centre, castle and food festivals – and of course its multiple pubs and restaurants. Among historic sights, Wenlock has an atmospheric ruined priory, while the otherwise uninteresting town of Cravens Arms is home to the sparse ruins of Clun Castle and a more substantial fortified manor house – Stokesay Castle. But the area's biggest draws are its natural assets – the heathy chunk of the Long Mynd, which dominates views for miles hereabouts, and limestone escarpment of Wenlock Edge, whose trails and footpaths draw hikers from many miles around.

Food & Drink

Wall under Haywood's village pub – the Plough Inn(01694 771833) – is 5 minutes' walk away, a traditional and very cosy country that serves good local ales, excellent food and hosts live music from time to time. Further up the lane – a 5-minute drive or 40-minute walk – the charming medieval village of Cardington is home to what claims to be the oldest pub in Shropshire, no less, the Royal Oak (01694 771266), where they also serve decent food – steaks, pies, fish and chips and several veggie options – but are closed on Mondays. For higher-end food, Ludlow has numerous alternatives for food and drink: try the Green Café near the castle for lunch (01584 879872), or the Queens gastropub (01584 879177) for lunch or dinner. Finally, the Ludlow Food Centre (01584 856000), 2 miles north of Ludlow on the A49, is a very hand place to pick up provisions to cook on the campsite.

Peace & quiet

I stayed for one night with my teenage daughter in one of the pods. The site was extremely clean and tidy and the pod was very comfortable. The location of the pod was very secluded (there weren't any guests in the other pod) and we very much enjoyed our campfire that evening. Host was very friendly and helpful.

A great find. Stayed in 1 of 2 pods which were perfect for our family of 4. Kids (6 & 4) loved the pod and the site was great for them to run round. I loved the firepit that goes with each pod and the amount of space. No shop nearby so bring what u need. Church stretton is only 5 min drive away too. Friendly site. Very peaceful and enjoyable. Will defo be back.

We loved the setting and the space for play

We came as part of a group of families. The kids loved playing in the stream and in the space in the middle of the campsite. We hired a bbq which was perfect for evening fires. The site is scenic and well cared for. Facilities are basic but very clean. We all enjoyed visiting the local park too although you do have a cross a busy road to get there. It's a shame the local pub wasn't family friendly. Overall a lovely place, we would definitely want to come back.

What A Stay!!!!

My husband, 3 year old daughter and I stayed for a long weekend beginning of August. It was a last minute booking and I'm so pleased we could get on the site. We stayed in the luxury pod and it was fantastic. Basic glamping but did us for what we wanted, which was rock up, unpack our small camping bits and bobs, sit back and relax. We were blessed with the weather, which meant cooking on the BBQ provided with the cabin was easy and stress-free and having the kettle was great. Dan and Mel were great hosts, gave us great advice on places to visit and very helpful when we needed logs/ BBQ etc... The setting was truly beautiful, quiet, cars parked in separate areas so the camping field is free to play in for the little ones and facilities lovely and clean. It was busy when we were there but we never had to queue for the loos or showers (2 of each). Outside area for doing the dishes and plenty of fresh water for drinking. Would definitely recommend, its a gem of a place.

Peaceful clean countryside

Lovely quiet site. Great size pitches and room to play. Stream was lovely for the girls

Well kept site

I camped for a couple of days mid June and there were only 2 other tents so it was very quiet. There is a firepit on the site which i imagine would be a nice social point when the campsite if full. The shower/toilet block is communal so you wouldn't be able to wash at the sinks in privacy but there are showers cubicals which were very clean. The main town (Church Stretton) was only 5 mins drive away where you can park and walk for miles in the beautiful countryside and valleys. All in all I had a very pleasant and peaceful couple of days.

No traffic noise

Plenty of space per camper, Great countryside setting. Helpful & Friendly. Clean new shower block. Affordable. No traffic noise yet close to a useful road. Some nice glamping options also. I would definitely return

A really great camping experience

This campsite is a hidden gem. The camping pitches are really spacious and the layout of the field is really well thought out. Most campsites would cram in extra tents but Brook House obviously thinks quality over quantity is best...and I totally agree. We camped with two under fives who loved the huge green area in the middle that they could run around and play in. All the tents face the green, so it creates a friendly atmosphere - we got to know a lot of the other campers and the kids got to make friends. The facilities are really clean and well maintained. Other reviewers have mentioned the lack of hot water for washing up - we just boiled a kettle. The location is great - the kid's playground in the village is fab, there's a local pub - both within walking distance - and church stretton is only a short drive away. My only suggestion for the campsite is to offer recycling bins, if possible. All in all, it was a really great experience and we'll definitely be returning.

Glad you enjoyed your stay and thanks for your review. We have specifically contracted our waste carrier as they have a zero to landfill policy. Recycling is done at the other end to save you the job. This info is written on the bin.

Well kept site with friendly welcome

We're novice campers, looking for a quiet family break. To that end, this site was perfect. Nice, flat, well-spaced pitches, with spotless toilet and shower block. Hot water would have been great at the washing up station, but we red the previous reviews and knew what to expect ... even we could heat some water! The kids had fun exploring and were able to keep clear of the other visitors. We're still finding our feet, so didn't stay too far, but can see this is a great launching point from which to explore the area. The owners were friendly and checked in on us each day. This size of site allows for this kind of personal touch and it was nicely done here. We'll definitely be back

Quiet, clean and pretty campsite

The campsite was lovely, as were the yurts we stayed in. We had fun playing on the big lawn and in the brook. The park and pub were good and there is plenty to do in the surrounding area. The weather was great which was lucky as we were not allowed to prepare or cook food in the yurt and with no other cover, had it rained we would have been stuck. Hot water for dishes/hands would have been welcomed. Ice pack facilities were not available. The owners were friendly but did remind us of the rules which we felt was unnecessary and annoying as there were signs and notices in abundance.

Absolute gem

I hesitate to leave a completely honest review in case the site becomes so popular that we can’t get back there again! Brookhouse provides a perfect combination of peace, natural environment, good facilities and location. Our kids had an Enid Blyton-esque time and we feel refreshed from an amazing break away!

The Camping Site is one of the best we have ever been to.

The camping field is accessed from the lane through a large inward opening gate. The camping field has approx 6 pitches round the outer edge, each of the pitches being of very generous proportions. It was very peaceful (mid week break with just us on the site). The showers and toilets were excellent and spotless We would have given the site a 5 star except for a lack of hot water at the washing sinks (2) and washing up sink.(1) We had an electric hook up in the tent which helped by being able to provide us with hot water. Dan and Mel are very friendly and helpful. We would love to revisit this very peaceful site.

Fabulous stay in a beautiful spot

We have just had our second stay in the pods and had a fabulous time. The kids loved playing in the brook with the owners son. The campsite is in just about the prettiest spot in Shropshire and the owners couldn’t be more friendly if they tried! Fully recommend staying here!

Beautiful site, friendly owner, almost off the grid

We stayed twice in 2017 with another family - 2 adults 2 young kids in both - and managed to pitch together both times no trouble. The site is simple, and in a wonderful spot. Nothing much to do, so you make your own entertainment. There's a massive space around which the pitches and 2 yurts are set, so lots of room for kids to play, mingle, etc. Also, there's a fire pit down in the far corner next to a meandering stream. I'd give 5 stars if there was hot water to wash up in, that's my only negative. Dan is a friendly site host, and nearby to help with any issues. There's a good playground a 5 minute walk away, and a pub 5 minutes beyond that, so most needs should be covered. Will hopefully be returning this year for sure - the night skies are super clear out there as well.

Experienced Tenter

Good Points: • Flat open field with tents well spaced around perimeter with plenty of room for children to play in centre • Owner friendly and helpful but rushed off his feet coping with camping and house renovations • Two showers warm in small modern facility • Two toilets • Two wash hand basins • Facilities kept clean Let Down By: • Entrance gate opens outwards so you have to reverse onto a lane • No hot water at wash hand basins and no facility to dry hands, no paper towels or hand-dryer • No electric shaver points or hot water for shavers • Lighting in facilities very poor. Lighting governed by sensors which are only activated when dark. With dirty UPVC sheeting overhead, one toilet is too dark to use and showers & wash-hand basins too dark even during the day. • Only one dish washing sink in open, with no overhead cover and no hot water. • No ice block freezing facility despite stating such on web site • Campsite expensive for such basic facilities and the payment system means payment is expected up front despite the weather. Don’t mind losing small deposit.

Response from Brook House Farm & Wedding Venue

Everything is clearly listed on our info pages. Gate has to open one way or another so no big deal here. As listed, we have no shaver points, hand towels, hand dryers, fridge, freezers (it is camping after all!), so no bingo hall, or entertainers either !.
Lightning is adequate, Toilets are in an old farm building, all roofs get a little mossy and have not spoiled anyone else's time here!
You made unreasonable demands the moment you arrived and we could not have pleased you in any case.

a lovely stay

We stayed 6 nights summer 17. The site was easy to find, with directions and arrival advice emailed before our stay. A large, flat field with tents pitched around the edge. Toilets and showers are modern and clean, plenty of loo roll and hot water, the showers are not push button or token operated. Warm water in the hand washing sinks and washing up would be nice, as would a shelter over the washing up sink, but it is camping, it is the country-side. Dan was friendly without being intrusive and likes to keep the site uncrowded. The site is within easy drive of lots of pretty villages and Ludlow and Shrewsbury. We used the park and ride for both of these towns to avoid parking nightmares. A great week. We would recommend this site for a peaceful country camp.

Fantastic location and friendly atmosphere.

We stayed at one of the great pods here at the end of June. Coming from Nottingham to visit my sister over the weekend, we usually camp but decided to try an eco pod for a bit of luxury. We came across this site by chance and were not disappointed. From the moment I booked here the communication was superb. When we arrived the owners were extremely friendly and helpful. We had a couple of wonderfully comfortable nights in the pods. The site and the pods are kept spotless. The site is tranquil and kept spacious. Unfortunately our trusty old gas stove packed in on the Saturday morning, luckily the owner had one to sell us. As a party of 2 adults and an 8 year old we found the pod to be spacious and it was nice to be able to charge phones etc. A really friendly site, easily accessible to all of our favourite places in Shropshire. Would definitely recommend and we will be returning.

We've just had 2 nights at this lovely campsite. We stayed in a new yurt which was spacious and comfortable for 2 adults and 2 kids. The site is well managed and maintained and the owners are very friendly. There is loads of space for kids to play and a shallow brook for adventures, the communal fire pit is a great place for evening socialising and the setting is very picturesque and peaceful. I'd recommend this site to anyone and hope that we will be able to go back one day.

Superb Site.

Had a good feeling about this site from this website and we were not disappointed: helpful courteous owners, safe clean site, & quiet lovely setting. We only wish we had booked an few extra nights! Pod was immaculate with plenty of room for the kids to play around & a safe stream/brook for them to explore. A joy to sit round the fire pit under the stars. Nearby town Church Stretton has much to offer & Ludlow isn't too far away.

Family friendly and quiet

Stayed for 2 nights in late August - site is lovely and was very quiet. Lovely countryside all around and a pretty brook that our kids loved playing in. the plot sizes are big and the owners are committed to not over crowding the site. Ideal location to get to Ludlow and iron bridge. Highly recommend!

Lovely well run site

We spent 5 nights here recently and loved every minute. The site is beautiful, quiet, and completely unspoilt. The owners work hard to keep it exactly as you'd hope. The toilets/showers are clean and nice and regularly cleaned. The field has a beautiful brook running past it and is safe for kids to run wild on. We really felt at home here and recommend it completely to anyone wanting a peaceful camping trip!

This was our first camping experience! We were made to feel so welcome and the owners were so kind and helpful. Would definitely recommend this beautiful place. The facilities are first rate and so clean. This campsite has a lovely feeling to it. My two young children had the best time making new friends. Thank you again.

Really nice, peaceful and family-friendly campsite, would definitely recommend to others and would book again if returning to the area.

Great little spot really friendly but not over the top. The owners come and greet you which is really nice. Showers are quite luxurious, compared even with so called 4 star hotels Ive stayed in, I would say these showers are some of the best!!! Really lovely, really peaceful, all of the young people on site were great fun and well mannered and a great family spot. Even travelling alone you would feel welcome at this place. Walks are within easy access, close to carding mill valley. Glrious sunsets and moon rises!

Lovely peaceful small site.

Only stayed for one night but will be back. Quiet and small campsite. Fantastic shower. We had a peaceful night with sounds of the brook and the birds to help us sleep. Dan was very friendly and welcoming.
Aug 13, 2016 by Happeehols

Really friendly, welcoming site - we only met Dan as the rest of the family were away, but he was really attentive ensuring everyone was happy. We stayed in the family glamping pod with our 7 year old son - the ultimate sleepover! Had our own fire pit and bench so literally had to bring beds and food. And for those (like me) who like home comforts, we were able to charge phones and I could dry my hair using the electric points in the pod! Great facilities - 2 showers, 2 unisex toilets, 2 wash basins, washing up point. Very well spaced out and everyone had loads of room. And finally, even though we only spent one night there, we took in some beautiful places on our way home - Ludlow Castle, Much Wenlock and Ironbridge ... All within a short distance. Would heartily recommend and will be returning for longer next time!

We recently spent 2 nights at this campsite and are definitely planning on going back. The owners were extremely friendly and made us feel really welcome. The site itself was very well maintained and the facilities were of a very good standard too. If you like beautiful surroundings and peace and quiet to enjoy them in then this is the campsite for you. Looking forward to returning for a longer stay next time !

Sound of Silence

A lovely quiet small campsite tucked away in the small village of Wall under Heywood, Shropshire. Facilities included 2 unisex loos and 2 showers, 2 wash basins and outside washing up space. The campsite was more or less full of couples and some families over this last weekend and we never had a problem accessing the toilets etc. Owners are friendly and helpful and obviously take great pride in their campsite being keen to know that you are enjoying your stay. There is a play ground within walking distance and plenty to visit and see within easy driving distance, Church Stretton and the Long Mynd. We had a drive to one of our favourite pubs over the Long Mynd at Ratlinghope, The Bridges where if you like great ale they serve the whole range of Three Tuns Beer, the XXX was very good. We also ate at a lovely old pub in Cardington which s a lovely drive along the narrow lane from the campsite. The Royal Oak (whoopee) sold Butty Bach from the Wye Valley Brewery and that with a lovely meal comes highly recommended.

A fantastic find

Just returned from a wet July weekend spent in a camping pod. Even tho the weather was horrendous the pod was a joy to stay in. We were warm and dry and even enjoyed the rain lashing down outside.

Shower and toilet facilities recently updated. Owners kept them clean. Wonderful warm powerful showers.

Owners were very much on hand to help too.

Thank you Dan and Mel
