Nearby

The surrounding area boasts some stunning cycling and walking trails – the picturesque Malvern Hills and the Forest of Dean among them. Kayak languidly on the nearby River Wye – Hereford Canoe Hire (01432 873020) in the village of Mordiford hires Red Indian style steel canoes for 2 hour paddles (£25) and half (£45) and full day (£55) adventures. Or head to Aylton, for Newbridge Farm Park (01531 670780), home to alpaca, pony rides and adventure playgrounds. It's 5 miles to 19th century Eastnor Castle (01531 633160), where you can wander through its Knight’s Maze or try the kids’ assault course and adventure playground. In the bothy in the castle grounds you can try out one of many Land Rover adventure courses (0844 848 4469). The castle holds events such as open-air theatre, and is very child-friendly. Dogs are also permitted both in the castle and grounds.

Food & Drink

Your best bet is to head the 2 miles to Ledbury, where there's a wide selection of independent pubs and restaurants – try the Talbot (01531 632963) or the Prince of Wales (01531 632250). There is also a good local farm shop (01531 670816) 1 mile away or, for something different, visit Westons Cider (01531 660233), where there is a visitor centre in the 17th-century farmhouse for guided tours detailing the cider making, plus a small restaurant.
