Stonehenge Campsite and Glamping

Well, Stonehenge on your doorstep is a definite bonus, but also the real community feel to the entire site.

You know you have a winning campsite, when you're sitting pretty, neighbouring one of England's most iconic landmarks. Toweringly beautiful and enormously overwhelming, the Stonehenge monument is a definite stellar reason to come to this neck of English woods. The other reason is the site itself – a camping hub for travellers, hippies, families and couples, all looking for a peaceful place to rest their heads.

The campsite initially looks on the small side, as you arrive into a private-feeling, tarmaced area with a few caravan hard standings and a colorful haze of flowers. Actually, though, there is plenty of space to be found and when you head back through the gates into two large open meadows you realise what an eclectic site this is. Alongside the hard-standings these fields have a cluster of campervanners, willing to forgo the luxury of a power supply, and a maze of colorful tents speckle the greens of the grass and the backdrop of bushes and shaggy ever greens that shield the campsite from a farm on the opposite side. With four luxury glamping pods and one basic budget festival pod for hire, plus a brand new gents and ladies shower block, there’s something for every type to be found.

Come the peak of the summer solstice the space we so appraise is certainly made use of – the place becomes a hive of activity as campers descend on Stonehenge to watch the sun stream through gaps in the stone – but for the rest of the year there really is room to play. Kids can kick a ball about in the meadow, campfires are lit and in winter the spare fields are mown by a handful of alpacas making their home like hardy year-round campers. It’s in these quiet times that you can also make best use of the amazing ‘campers kitchen’ a wooden lean-to structure with mugs, cutlery and utensils to use along with a microwave and kettle.

At night time, the stars come out and evoke your hidden sentiments as they glisten overhead and lead you pondering back to those who looked to the skies before. Gathering at Stonehenge may be as ancient as mankind itself but it’s stood the test of time. This is still the place to gather and you’ll quickly come to learn that Stonehenge campsite is the place for swapping stories with other campers whilst sipping a hot chocolate till the sun begins to rise.

Stonehenge Campsite

Stayed for 2 weeks and loved the tranquil atmosphere of the area. It has been given a David Bellamy award for it’s eco friendly approach and you can tell with lots of hedges and plants that have been planted to make the place look like you are staying within a nice little corner of nature. It’s also in a lovely part of the country with great views, and nearby public footpaths with some nice walks leading of course to Stonehenge (great walk) and also to some local pubs that have good beer and home cooked food. Facilities are fine, just what you need, and an excellent deal including electricity and water, all you need. The owner William is very friendly and helpful when you need it. Definitely be back again!

Don't Ever Change

Having travelled throughout the UK camping and caravanning for over 25 years, can I say how refreshing it is to find a site where you are warmly welcomed by helpful owners and staff who simply cannot do enough for you and where you can relax and feel comfortable without that typical stuffy 'caravan club' atmosphere.

William, the owner has created a wonderful site here and his enthusiasm rubs off on all of his staff members and those who are fortunate to visit this little piece of Wiltshire paradise.

We left with a smile on our faces and can't wait to return next year.

We stayed in the Fox Pod in mid-October 2012.  I can highly recommend. It was lovely to just turn up and put our stuff in the pod.  The bed was comfy and there is a little kettle which was a nice surprise.  The heaters were plenty to keep it warm.  Having the BBQ pit was a great addition too for a nice chilled evening.  The local pub is within stumbling distance.  We also did a day out to Longleat Safari Park which is also recommended.

The facilities were fine for the weekend when there were no campers and one or two caravans.  However, on a busy week in summer there may not be enough showers or toilets to avoid big queues at the usual busy times of day.

stayed - 02/06

This site has the potential to be really good, but unfortunately at the moment its more like a festival site than a camp site. The facilities are poor, Portaloo’s and the couple of showers that were flooding and dirty (during our visit). The field we camped in is obviously used for sheep, due to the amount of mess and was uncut, which would have been fine other than the fact that it allowed un-respectful dog owners to not see the mess their pets where leaving for unsuspecting kids! There are plans to add a purpose built toilet and shower block, which will significantly aid this site and the staff where very friendly, but unfortunately we won’t be going back.

Stonehenge Campsite

Really nice little campsite, nice atmosphere, but like a chilled out family festival. Has firepits to hire or you can bring raised firebowls as long as won’t burn the grass. We stayed 2 nights in the bell tent over this busy bank holiday and thought it lovely. Eggs and papers for sale is a nice touch, lots of good info on what to do in a bit of the world we’d never really thought of visiting. Two good pubs in walking distance and very dog friendly (for friendly dogs!) sealed it for us. Facilities basic but clean & fine. Good dish washing room - and the kettle there meant didn’t need to fire up the stove for early morning tea! We’ll be back :)

Stonehenge Campsite

An eco friendly, fresh, new site! Lots of space for our motorhome and a great pitch for our camping family. William, the site owner, was extremely helpful and friendly, with local info, advice and good ideas for us tourists.

A stones throw from The Henge, the campsite is in a great countryside location with several local villages and great pubs in easy walking distance, we enjoyed both...the walks and the pubs!

The site has good basic facilities for cooking and washing up, toilets and a shower block, which we were told is to be improved imminently.

William is aiming for the David Bellamy Conservation Award and has set inplace more than the minimal recycling requirements, new native hedgerow throughout the site with a wild area to encourage wildlife.

We will return!!!

July stay

Lovely Wiltshire countryside, only marred by rather poorly maintained facilities- I thought w.c.s and showers could have been cleaned more often, and there were definitely not enough for the number of campers. Having said that, we spent a lot of time going offsite to visit Salisbury, Stonehenge, Longleat, which are easy to reach and well worth the trip. The proprietor and staff were friendly, and the log fires were charming, although we would rather not have to chop it ourselves after paying£10 extra for logs.

Cold unfriendly welcome, rude really! Slow service, big mistake booking there in general.

Just lush!

We went here for a practice night in our new 40 year old VW camper. Just lush, what a beautiful little place. Really accessible but really rural. Only a handful of hard standing pitches but as we went here in early April they let us put the camper on the field so we could try out our awning. The facilities are fantastic! Great campers kitchen with free tea, coffee and milk. Decent cooking facilities and best of all awesome bathrooms. We only had one night but will definitely go back. Take the time to go for even just a short local walk, it's one of the prettiest and most wildlife abundant little spots I've had the pleasure to explore in ages.

Great site

While we did not have very nice weather for our long weekend (not a surprise for early November!) this did not dampen our spirits or experience of this site.  The couple who run it are very warm, welcoming and approachable should you have any problems/questions.  The facilities are also good, always clean and warm.

We stayed on pitch 15 in a VW Cali, a tiny bit tight to get on and off this pitch, but once there it feels secluded and gives a nice view over the camping fields (empty at this time of year, except for a couple of friendly horses).  We had an EHU and our own picnic table.

This site is well placed for exploring South Wiltshire and North Somerset, we throughly enjoyed our stay and are looking forward to returning.

Lovely site

Really nicely laid out site, all the facilities were top notch, showers were pristine, campers kitchen was a lovely idea and very useful and you were made to feel welcome.

It was lovely and quiet, aside from my 1 year old who decided to develop a cold and cry and cough all night :-( Hope we didn't disturb anyone else.

Will definitely be back to explore the area further.

We spent the weekend here with another family, and found it very pleasant. The two fields seem well-kept although busy, and despite how crowded it seemed, a hush descended at 10pm disturbed only by occasional noise dfrom the nearby A road. Showers etc were clean, but charged at 60p for 6 minutes, which goes to charity. Facilities include a campers' kitchen with microwave and toaster, as well as non-functioning hob and washing machine. Washing up liquid and tea, coffee and milk are provided, although I can't imagine many campers not bringing those things. It would be good to provide more space in the freezer for ice packs. The fire pits were extremely expensive, but fires were allowed if you had your own container, and logs were for sale.

This was one of those sites where the kids immediately ran off and made friends, only coming back for meals, and that only if they couldn't cadge food off other campers. They loved the alpacas being let loose in the field, and we loved the starry skies at night.

Friendliest Campsite Ever

We were wonderfully greeted onto the site by the adorable Tia, the landowners dog, who was waiting for us wagging her tail. This set the tone for the rest of the stay.

The site itself was extremely well looked after, very clean and had great facilities. There is a kitchen area called 'Campers Kitchen' which has a kettle (with tea, coffee and hot chocolate), hob, microwave, fridge, washing machines, sinks and even eggs for sale. This helped me to relax knowing that even if I had forgot something or if the weather was bad, I would be OK.

The showers were warm and good sized, the toilets were clean and well looked after. The whole time we were there we didn't have to wait for any of these either.

The staff were all lovely and helpful, they really went out of there way to make us feel comfortable and get us what we needed.

The whole place in general was amazing, lots of space for my kids to roam around and use their imagination, the other families on the site were all friendly or just quiet and respectful. There are great walks to go on and some fantastic views. If I was to think of one complaint for the place it was that we were quite spoilt and therefore really didn't want to go back to reality and go home.

All in all this is the best camp-site I have ever stayed in, I will definitely be going back, especially as my kids are already missing Tia the dog.
