Nettwood Country Breaks
Nettwood Farm, Smithams Hill, East Harptree, Somerset BS40 6DA
To cast your eyes upon the Chew Valley is to gaze upon nature perfection. If there's a more idyllic scene than the undulating patchwork of lush, verdant sheep-dotted hills and wooded combes that surround the tranquil waters of Blagdon Lake, we're yet to find it. Nestled within the wider Mendips Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it'll come as no surprise that this is prime camping territory. With such an array of fantastic spots to pitch up in, the choice can often be beguiling. But for the best of bases, first-rate facilities and views to die for, look no further than Nettwood Country Breaks.
Nettwood Farm is 210 acres of Somerset livestock farm-cum-camping retreat overlooking the sprawling Chew Valley Lake (the largest in the South-West). Run by the lovely Griffin family, this is the ideal setting for getting away from it all with the family. There's a relaxed attitude to life here with 20 'pitch where you fancy' spots alongside other more formal grass pitches that come fully wired. The grass field is well-kempt and on an ever-so-gentle slope (although most pitches have been levelled out). Fringed by some 30 acres of woodland, campers pitching up in springtime will be treated to an amazing show of technicolour as the forest floor explodes with vibrant purple bluebells.
Kids will love this place too. The woodland copse is prime den-building estate and when they're not busy exploring the copse or kicking a ball about the fields (that's right – ball games allowed!), there's always Nettwood's resident sheep to meet.
Location, Nettwood has it all: easy access to the Mendips; expansive lakeside vistas; woodland walks around East Harptree; the famous caverns of Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole. You can stroll the quaint cobbled streets of Wells by morning, before following the afternoon to the seaside-kitsch at Weston-super-Mare. And when evening dawns, there's fewer more relaxing places to reflect upon the day than Nettwood Farm. All the easy-going owners ask is that you keep the noise to a minimum after 10pm out of respect for your neighbours. But truth be told, after a day's spent exploring the gems of Somerset, a contented slumber beckons under the star-spangled blanket of unblemished Somerset night sky.

Myself, my partner and 2 young boys (2 and 6) spent a week at Nettwood. My partner was commuting into Bristol each day and I was a little worried we would run out of things to do, but it was great! A lovely place to be and very friendly. The people down in the village of East Harptree were also incredibly helpful and friendly. The only difficulty I had was that there were no laundry facilities, but I should really have checked this beforehand!
The views over the Chew Valley and lake are absolutely beautiful. The little play area kept my 2 boys amused for hours and was a great spot for making new friends every day. I highly recommend this place.
We went at the beginning of August, I took my friend and 4 children 15, 12, 9 and 5. Everyone had a great time, the woods kept the children occupied for hours. It was great being able to have a fire at night to toaste our marshmallows. The showers and toilets were cleaned daily. Also had the added bonus of a fridge freezer. Fun was had by all, would definatly recommend this site to families
Me and my partner stayed here for the weekend of my birthday and what a fantastic weekend it was. It's a beautiful little site with views of the lake that astound you. There are Woods you can walk through to collect your fire wood to get that real feel of camping. The sites amenities are clean and well maintained, plus there are a few electric sockets for those of us who can't be away from your phone for more than a few hours. All this and more for the bargain price of £12 a night. We will definitely be returning hopefully for a longer stay :)
We've camped here twice so far this year, and have had a great time on both occasions. They have an amazing view of one of the lakes, plus you can see all the way to Wales and you can just see the planes going down to Bristol airport. The adventure playground kept the kids amused, and there is woodland next door which you can wander through to collect firewood. Fires are allowed off the ground, and they supply fire trays and even the odd BBQ. The shower blocks are fairly new and reasonably clean. There are sinks for washing up, proper toilets and mains plugs. Can't think of anything negative to say!
