A family-run site between the Quantock Hills and the Jurassic Coast, where you'll never run out of things to do.

Pinned between hills and coastline, there are few sites in the UK that are just 200m away from a busy road yet boast such an undeniably enviable location. Characterised by the rocky Jurassic Coast, heather-coated hills and long, wooded valleys, the surrounding Quantocks are a magnificent place to explore. It was such local beauty that inspired a young William Wordsworth and his friend Samuel Taylor Coleridge, to pen many of the poems in Lyrical Ballads – a book often held to mark the creation of English literary Romanticism. More than two centuries on, the surroundings are just as inspirational.

Located on a working arable farm, Moorhouse Campsite is a quiet, family-run site that boasts far-reaching views across this very landscape to the climbing hills beyond. There’s a range of options when it comes to pitches, with seasonal, hardstanding and tent pitches all on offer, each carefully spaced out and divided by maturing trees and hedges. The rich foliage provides not only privacy but also some extra summer shade for lucky campers, and shelter from the rain for unlucky ones. If you’re really worried about the weather, though, there are also two glamping pods for a little added luxury, kitted out with simple beds and mattresses.

Onsite facilities are numerous. Two conveniently placed toilet blocks mean that late-night expeditions will never be too tasking and a single, centrally located shower block boasts wonderfully powerful showers. Laundry facilities are also available, and a landscaped communal barbecue area can be found in the tent field; campfires are also permitted in the designated firepits (logs for sale onsite). Perhaps most importantly, though, is the Mad Apple Cider which they produce on the farm and is available to those staying at the site.

Unsurprisingly the Quantock Hills are riddled with mountain bike trails and footpaths, one of which, the ‘Coleridge Way’, allows you to follow in the footsteps of STC, best appreciated having swatted up on a few of his poems beforehand! If you want to learn more you can also visit Coleridge Cottage, situated around 3 miles from site. For many, though, the beaches are the main attraction. It’s a scenic 40-minute walk to Kilve Beach, with a footpath leading directly from the campsite's edge (or a 5-minute drive). It’s a great place to search for fossils as you dip in and out of the various rock pools. Further east the shingly beaches of Doniford and Warren Bay are similarly dotted with pockets of shiny water and are perfect for dog-walking and rockpooling – make sure you bring a net along!

Fantastic

We wanted a nice quiet site, not too far from home for a short break and we certainly found it here at moorhouse.  It's in a perfect location with lots of options for walking from the site, close to the coast (excellent fossil hunting) woodlands for walking, horse riding or mountain biking.  The site is beautifully kept with good sized pitches, showers and loo's are consistently clean and plenty of recycling & water points.  We went to the chantry tea rooms for lunch and then a bit further out for dinner to the babbling brook inn, would definitely recommend both.  We'll most definitely be returning to moorhouse as it ticks all the boxes

We store our caravan at Moorhouse Farm as we only live down the road but choose to stay at the farm due to the peace and quiet we find there. Helena and Simon are very friendly and work so hard to make sure their guests have a great holiday. The pitches are really spacious and level. Many are demarcated by specimen trees and the site is full of well kept flowerbeds and immaculately kept grass. The toilet facilities are very clean and contain information boards that would be useful to visitors from further afield. The camping fields are flat and have fire pits which families love. Logs are supplied by the barrow load. When we have stayed we have seen children enjoying tractor and trailer rides round the site and petting the many animals that live there. I love being visited by the bantoms that roam around freely. There is lots to do within easy reach and some great walks that can be started at the site. The pubs in the area sell good food and welcome everyone. If we did not live down the road we would happily spend a week or two there. As we do, we will continue to spend weekends enjoying our caravan there and popping home to feed our pets. A really lovely site in a beautiful part of the world. Well worth a visit.

We had a wonderful stay at Moorhouse. The site is really well-kept with brilliant facilities - powerful hot showers, a fridge, bbq area and lots of recycling and water points. We stayed in the tent field which has lots of space and great views. We loved having a fire in the firepit on a chilly bank holiday evening! We also highly recommend the delicious homemade cider. The site has a pub within walking distance down a pretty track. During our stay we walked to Kilve beach  (via the delightful Chantry tearooms) and went for a lovely walk over the Quantocks. Moorhouse was the nicest campsite we have stayed in so far and we're looking forward to going back already. Thank you Helena and Simon for such a great time.

We've visited a lot of campsites both in the UK and abroad and are always on the look out for new places to stay, that are also good fun for our two girls (aged 6 and nearly 2). We love this area of Somerset so where pleased to find Moorhouse Campsite which looked ideal - and it turned out to be way better than imagined! Not only are the facilities really good (spotless, well maintained and with nice decorative touches) but the big camping field has great views, good grass and a new wooden playframe and the site overall was peaceful and and the other  campers were friendly. But what really makes a campsite are the people who run it, and Helena and Simon, and their family, are just so friendly and nothing is too much bother for them. Our daughters loved all the animals - chicks, ducks, cats, a dog and the ponies. They also allow firepits in the tent field and supply a huge load of logs and firelighters for £6 (which lasted us over our three night stay), which is better than many other campsites. There's also so much to do locally (as mentioned in the listing) and you can walk to a pub and village (The Plough Inn in Holford) avoiding roads. We went to Kilve Beach (and the gorgeous Chantry Tea Rooms), Watchet and Dunster Castle (via the steam train) and also went for a walk up Hodders Combe from Holford. So yes, for all those reasons this is now one of our family top rated campsites and we are just working out when we can visit again! Thank you to Helena and Simon for a fantastic weekend!
