Brig’s Farm

Back-to-nature, environmentally-friendly camping with great views over countryside to the sea.

Tucked away along winding, hidden country lanes, Brig’s Farm offers real back-to-nature, wild camping at its simplest. Little more than a beautifully-located field dotted with apple trees and surrounded by woodland, the campsite has stunning southward views over rolling countryside towards the Jurassic coast, just a few miles away.

There are no marked pitches or electrical hook-ups here – you just pick your favourite spot and set up camp. Most people head up to the top of the sloping field, where they can tuck in beside the woodland and enjoy the best of the views.

It’s a relaxed and informal site, run by the laid-back Mew, who farms the 12-acre small-holding according to organic principals and is building his own eco-friendly house in one corner of the site. The campsite’s eco-footprint is low, with compost toilets and its own running spring water. There’s also a wooden swing and a trampoline for the kids.

Campfires and families are welcome and on Friday nights the brick-built wood-fired pizza oven is fired-up for Mew’s home-made pizza and salad nights. However the real joy of this site is its location, with fantastic footpaths on its doorstep, winding through bucolic landscapes and quiet, hilly country lanes for cyclists to explore. Approaching the site, you feel like you are zig-zagging uphill into the middle-of-nowhere. But it’s actually only a short drive or cycle (though the route back is steeply uphill!) down to the beach at Charmouth where fossil-hunting and swimming on the beach are popular activities. The arty and foodie town of Lyme Regis is also nearby. Seasoned campers and children will particularly enjoy the get-away-from-it-all atmosphere here. With few facilities, Brig’s Farm is a calm, tranquil spot with a slow pace of life. It's the perfect escape from the tyranny of the x-box and internet, where the kids can climb trees, build campfires and roam free.

Worth a visit

Spent weekend 27-29 June 2014 here.  No mess, no fuss, peaceful, awesome showers, close to Lyme Regis and an easy going owner, Mew, where nothing appears too much trouble.  Give it a go.

We stayed 2 nights at Brig's Farm in Dorset. Located on a large, sloping field it is surrounded by hills and has views of the sea towards Bridport. Facilities are basic, but clean and completely adequate for a weekend -- long-drop loos and hot showers. It's a very relaxed place and Chris's homemade pizza is definitely worth having. Be sure to pack bin-bags, as you need to take all your rubbish away. Thoroughly recommended for anyone who enjoys nature, cooking over campfires and getting away from it all!

So Relaxed

We love this place! Our first ever camping trip and we couldn't have found a more relaxed site. The owner Mew was very helpful as well as providing great food (pizza Fri night and Sunday roast at the local pub). We weren't sure what to expect with the compost toilets but they were fine and not too smelly, however there was no hot water to wash your hands and the shower and wash facilities are very basic. The real bonus for us was we could leave the car next to the tent there are no boundaries or rules and the dogs could roam free to play.  We all had a wonderful time would highly recommend.

Brig’s Farm

We had a fantastic few days this May bank holiday 2013 (we were 18), the weather was absolutely amazing, the setting was stunning and we loved watching all the kids spending hours on the trampoline in the sunset.
Huge campfire every night, logs were provided by Mew the very friendly owner. Couldn't have found a better and very cool campsite.

No running water

I booked this campsite having read such positive reviews. However, when we arrived after a 2 hour drive to get there, we were informed that there was no running water. Therefore, no showers, nor toothbrushing or hand washing facilities. It does say that the campsite is basic and we are used to basic but one night was enough because of this. I tried to find Mew, the owner, but had no luck.  If families have booked their summer holidays here, I do feel sorry for them.

Campsite Owners Response:

My apologies that there was a problem with the water and the inconvenience it caused. My supply is from a spring on a neighbouring farm. Very occasionally there is a leak on one of the holdings that are on the same supply and the reservoir dries up. The water was back on the next morning. Unfortunately I was away for a night but my workers did visit  everyone on the campsite to tell them what had happened. My phone number is on my website and in the toilets if anyone has a problem.
Once again I apologise for the inconvenience

Lovely campsite

Just spent a lovely weekend at Brig's Farm.  Beautiful spot, clean compost loos and lovely hot showers.  Mew cooked us great wood fired pizzas one night and was very helpful and friendly.  Our son loved the piglets and trampoline.  Will definitely be back!

Beautiful views

I stayed for six days and wish it could have been longer. Mew, the owner, is a very affable chap and a mine of local information, not to mention his great pizzas which have to be sampled! The views from the campsite are stunning, and other great plusses include being able to park next to your tent, (so no lugging piles of kit from a remote car park), and being able to have a campfire in the evenings. If you have a dog and it's well behaved you don't have to have it pegged down all day, another plus. Charmouth is five minutes away by car or around a half hour if you're walking. There's a great Fish and Chip shop and it's usually pretty busy and just down the road from that, the beach complete with fossil hunters, and lyme Regis is around 20 mins away by car. Back on site, the compost loos work really well and the solar showers very welcome after a long day's exploring. All in all, Brigs Farm ticks all the boxes for me and was well worth the visit to a unique location.

Beautiful spot

A special spot nestled in rolling hills, with a sea view (not mentioned in description really). Mew does fab pizzas from his home made oven and the treat of having a proper campfire every night is great (he had run out of logs so stock up!)

Facilities are basic but the composting toilet works really well is a posh version and showers are good too.

Lovely Campsite

We stayed here 17th-19th July. We pitched up under the apple trees with views across the beautiful rolling Dorset hills. Simply lovely!

Brilliant Campsite!

We stayed here for the May bank holiday 2014 with a group of friends and kids for a birthday weekend! Mew was really friendly and accommodating the site was well organised and the composting loos and shower blocks were a bonus! Very relaxed atmosphere and nice and close to lyme regis for a nice day out and fish and chips. Will definitely come back here next year!

Thanks Mew & Team

Hello to whoever reads this.

My friends and I stayed over the August bank holiday 2014 and had a brilliant time.  In fact we very very rarely say that we'd happily go somewhere again to camp as we like to try new sites - however Brigs Farm was that good.

Its a basic, well run and most importantly welcoming site.  It's for people who want a genuine camping experience with a small number of people - i.e. not a field full of chavs and idiots - its communal - the stone baked pizza and Sunday roast were superb.  Mew (who runs the farm) was very welcoming and genuinely enjoyed helping his guests have a great time.  It's a lovely walk down into Charmouth by the sea and offers stunning views over the skyline.

Camp fires are allowed for this who are responsible..  One of the best sites we've been to - and we've been to many!!
