Huntstile Organic Farm

Somerset Ta5 2 Dq, Somerset, England
1 acre hosted by Huntstile O.
Bijou camping by a 14th-century farmhouse with valley views and organic food

Huntstile is foodie heaven. Owners Lizzie and John radiate a passion for good food, which the whole place lives and breathes. The farm covers over 650 acres of organic land, nursing vegetables, soft fruit, wheat, oats and barley, as well as medicinal crops and sheep and chickens galore. This isn’t a dedicated campsite but a farm-cum- campsite/glamping-sort-of-a-place – and it’s amazing...You can even get married here.

There are technically 25 pitches, located in a separate field just down from the farmhouse, but you’re more or less welcome to hunker down anywhere. If that seems like too much hard work, then cosy up in the beautiful bowtop gypsy caravan, complete with dinky little log burner and double bed – also with an outdoor firepit and cauldron for cooking – or the gorgeous, sky-blue painted shepherd’s hut trailer which, believe it or not, sleeps four, albeit at a squeeze.

You’re in Quantock country, so the farm lies in an enviable position circled by stunning rural Somerset and all its outdoor possibilities, not to mention a lovely stretch of coastline within striking distance. There are also onsite walks that seek out ancient woodland or stone circles – hard to believe you’re only ten minutes from the M5 as all you can hear around here is wildlife. Just a short stroll across the farmyard is a gorgeous little café, where you can tuck into a cream tea or a Full English, happy in the knowledge it’s all fair trade without a GM ingredient in sight. Lizzie also runs sausage- making courses, so you can have a ball creating, then sampling, your very own British banger.

Huntstile is a family run working organic farm set in 270 acres of beautiful Somerset countryside. We produce cereal crops like wheat, barley and oats, organic vegetables, herbs and flowers and medicinal herbs for Neal's Yard and Rutland Biodynamic. We also have a small herd of Short Horn Beef cattle, Gloucester Old Spot pigs and Sandy & Black pigs as well as 3 pet goats and lots of chickens.d  We love Huntstile, its a wonderful place to live and work! We have 3 mixed orchards at Huntstile and they produce a good crop of fruit, delicious Organic Apple Juice for our onsite Café and a lovely space for Camping. Next to this is a 10 acre wild flower meadow which is full of butterflies and bees in the summer. We have composting loos on the campsite and mains drinking water in the orchard and our heated showers and flushing toilets are 3 minutes walk away, situated next to the Café. Huntstile has a biomass boiler run on wood from our woodland that heats the farmhouse B&B, out little café and provides lots of hot water on demand (very nice in the campers' shower block) - and we have solar panels that charge up the company car, a 100% electric Nissan Leaf. All our vegetable waste is recycled into our pet pig Rosie and our flock of organic chickens ...they lay the best eggs in the world (probably). There are public footpaths from the farm gate and we have woodlands and spring-fed lakes to explore. In Somerset we also have Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole, Minehead beach, Glastonbury Tor and all sorts of other exciting places to visit.  Children are always welcome at Huntstile and can come to feed the animals each morning and collect some of those eggs! We also accept campervans, motor homes and well behaved pets. Come and visit soon and discover Huntstile for yourself!
