A homely country pub combines with the well-run Glampotel group to create this dishy Dorset glamping site

The Holme Bush Inn has long been doing a roaring trade in traditional pub fare: there are real ales on tap, two open fires to keep you warm in winter time and a welcoming, friendly atmosphere without loud tvs or juke boxes you need to shout over. It's only in recent years we think the place has really come into its own though, when a small campsite was opened on the 14 acres of farmland behind the pub. For us, the dreamy combination of top local pub and well-managed campsite is always a winner. And now they've gone one step further, teaming up with the renowned folks from Glampotel to offer six luxurious canvas cottages.

The six glamping abodes – bell tent like structures that come fully furnished with king-sized beds, bespoke furnishing and en suite bathrooms – are located in their own private meadow away from the main camping site. It gives them a little added privacy and the chance to give every glamper their own peaceful space. Each has its own outside deck, where there is a BBQ and kitchen area with everything you need for whipping up a storm (if you can resist simply heading into the pub), while a wood-burning stove inside provides some glowing glamping warmth.

The site occupies an accessible spot not far from an A-road that leads you into Poole and Bournemouth. It's far enough not to be bothered by any road noise but convenient when you fancy zipping to the coast. The two port towns provide plenty to keep you busy, from boat trips and nautical museums to simple walking the waterfront and high streets. Meanwhile, a little further East the most famous stretches of the Dorset coast are well within reach, just a short drive away.

Canvas cottages are each appointed with king-size beds, wooden floors, bespoke wooden furniture, en-suite shower rooms and toilets and all the equipment you need in your kitchen unit, including a cool box (milk and a few essentials provided on your arrival). Towels and toiletries are provided. There's also a lockable chest, solar lights with USB outlets for charging your devices, and candles for your lanterns. Outside, your own private deck is complete with gas BBQ and bistro set. Free Wi-Fi available inside the pub.

Suitable For

Glamping only. Kids and dogs – yes. Tents, campervans, caravans – no.

Poole and Bournemouth are the nearest coastal hotspots, the former with its vibrant waterfront and harbour, the latter with a vast, blue flag beach. It's worth heading a little further west to Dorset's most famous stretch of coast, however, where Swanage Bay, Stutland and Old Harry Rocks are all just a 35 minute drive away. Kimmerage Bay, Lulworth Cove and the arch of Durdle Door are only a little further. For the best views of them walk sections of South West Coast Path.

Food & Drink

There's a BBQ on the front deck of each tent and breakfast hampers can be ordered (delivered to your tent at the requested time; £24 for 2 people). BBQ hampers are also available (£28 for 2 people). You can also pre-order a cooked breakfast in the Holme Bush Inn (£18 for 2 people) or dinner (from £29 for 2 people) or simply head into the Inn without pre-ordering and order at the regular price.
