Lyme Regis Camping
It’s not hard to see why the picturesque, west Dorset, harbour town of Lyme Regis was Jane Austen’s favourite. Spilling down a steep hillside to the sea, and bisected by winding streams, it’s a jumble of tiny fishermen’s cottages, thatched houses and vast Victorian villas. Popular with fossil-hunters scouring the sandstone cliffs, couples browsing art galleries and families playing on the sandy beach, it's a top place to visit with almost universal appeal. Thankfully, there are plenty of campsites in and around Lyme Regis too. As Jane Austen herself said, it would be “a very strange stranger…who does not see charms in the immediate environs of Lyme”.
