Dorset Farm Camping at Dewflock Farm
UK England South West England Dorset Dorchester
Considering how close it is to the country town of Dorchester, Dewflock Farm has a wonderfully rural feel. Just two miles from the charming old town centre, this 28-day campsite offers a true townie’s alternative – a working farm and views across the rolling Dorset downs.
The camping itself is of the luxurious variety, with pre-pitched bell tents for rent. If you want to bring your own equipment, then you can plucked for one of the unfurnished tents that has only inflatable mattresses inside, while the more plush, furnished option includes bed linen and towels, rugs, furniture and an entrance awning to provide some additional covered space.
Dewflock Farm is a particular hit with families. The 7-acre meadow in which the tents are pitched provides plenty of space for children to fly kites and kick a ball around, while, in the mornings, kids are also invited to follow farmer Tom as he checks and feeds the animals – lambs, pigs, cows and chickens. On rainy days an old farm barn has been converted into all-weather family space too. It has a television and jukebox, a lounge area and Wi-Fi, plus there’s also a handy ‘campers kitchen’ with a fridge, freezer, toaster, and kettle.
The real benefit of the place, though, for families and couples alike, is its position between town and seaside. For those who don’t mind a good stroll, Dorchester is within walking distance and has enough to occupy you for a day or more, while, just to the east of the campsite, the vast Maiden Castle is one of Europe’s best-preserved Iron Age hill forts and well worth a visit. South, meanwhile, a short drive leads you to the famous Jurassic Coast and it’s popular combination of beaches, cliffs and coves.
So whether it’s a rainy day in the museums or a sunny one down on the beach, Dewflock Farm has got you covered.
