About Coppet Hill

Suitable For

Camping, glamping, tents, families, couples – yes. Campervans, caravans, dogs – no.

The site is situated in a Dorset area of natural beauty, with almost eight miles of nature trails, footpaths and bridleways on the farm, offering a fantastic chance to explore the hills and enjoy the sea views. A short climb up the neighbouring hill will give you amazing views of Lyme Bay and the Jurassic Coast, from Portland Bill in the east to Lyme Regis in the west. If a view of Lyme Regis isn’t enough for you, it’s only a 20-minute trip to the beach and seaside town itself. To explore the history of the town or arrange a fossil walk, you can take a trip to Lyme Regis Museum, but between the 13th-century harbour, known as the Cobb, and the rest of the historic town setting, there are plenty of things to keep you busy.

Food & Drink

Drive the ten minutes to Symondsbury Kitchen (01308 424116) for breakfasts, light lunches, hot drinks and sweet treats, best enjoyed out on their terrace, dotted with plants and budding trees with umbrellas to shade you from the sun. The Shave Cross (01308 868358) pub is a 20-minute walk from the site. Set in a 14th-century thatched-roof inn, the pub serves a selection of local specialty beers, fresh, organic and award-winning artisan ciders and any cocktail you’re in the mood for if you just ask for Tom. Around 10 minutes' drive is The George Inn (01297 489419), a friendly local with a good outdoor seating area as well as a smaller 'snug' area indoors.

Perfect for a family camping holiday.

We spent 2 weeks at Coppet Hill at the end of August. It was the perfect venue to explore the Jurassic Coast, or just stay on the site and enjoy some of the walks and sunflower maze on the farm itself. Ellen, Matt, Pippa, George and Amanda were fantastic hosts and the attention to detail was incredible, particularly the picnic bench, fire pit and compost toilet on each plot, not to mention the shower block which was positively luxurious compared to other campsite shower blocks I've experienced. The spacious plots provided a relaxing, private camping experience while the options to join in the Sunday evening curry nights in the barn or to join a twilight "owl prowl" about the farm provided the opportunity to socialise and meet other campers. We'd recommend Coppet Hill to anyone who wants to explore the Dorset coastline, or who just wants a relaxing break on a delightful farm.

Magical Weekend

We have just got back from our stay at Coppet Hill. We stayed in Churchay, one of the yurts and we have never experienced anything so magical. We were set in our own corner of a field, the yurt had a clear ceiling which we watched the stars through (there are also shades if you'd prefer), if was furnished beautifully, the outdoor kitchen was perfect and our children (5 and 2) cried when we had to leave the outdoor bath!. We strolled through fields, visited Bridport and spent time chilling at the yurt, with a firepit in the evening. The owners were so welcoming and I honestly cant fault it. Even the 'plopping shed' was fancy! Lovely treat for a special birthday.

Response from Coppet Hill

Hi Sam, Thank you so much for you fabulous review and so pleased you had a good time.  We do hope you will come back another time!  Alll the best Ellen and the Coppet Hill Team

Great find!

Cannot fault the location and warm welcome at Coppet Hill, we had a wonderful 6 night stay here and would highly recommend it. We stayed in the gorgeous Lotus Belle tent - a real treat, total seclusion in the most peaceful and beautiful setting for sunsets and star gazing. We stayed as a family of 4 and our children (9 and 7) absolutely loved the experience, it suits families very well - but I can imagine would be amazing for a couple! It’s close to so many places for exploring the Dorset coast (most within 15-30min drive away) but also has great nature trails and good local pubs all within walking distance - and we were lucky enough to be there for a Sunday night BBQ which was great to meet some of the other guests. A real gem and we hope to return.

Beautiful family run farm in the perfect location for Jurassic coast beaches and each pitch well situated and spaced away from others. Ellen and her family lovely hosts, very welcoming and helpful. Sunflower maze great fun and lots of wildlife to see and hear. Would love to return next year, kids didn't want to leave. 🤗 Highly recommended!

Lovely place and super friendly hosts

We were met with a genuinely warm welcome which was a really nice way to start. The owners explained the few things we needed to know and we used the trolley provided to go set up. We had 2 pitches for 3 tents (5 adults, 5 kids) which was just right. We did all our cooking on the fire pit provided (logs are available to buy). The space between the pitches is very generous so it feels very private and the whole experience is very quiet and laid back. It's a very outdoors place and the highlight for my kids was the first ever "Owl Prowl". We met at the barn at 8.15 pm and went for a long evening/night time walk looking for anything wildlife and especially owls. We were lucky to see a barn owl and some hares. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the local wildlife. Overall an excellent 4 nights and would highly recommend to anyone who likes it quiet and eco friendly but with good basic facilities
