Nearby

On the doorstep, walking options allow you to discover a little more of the farm, following footpaths through the surrounding cow fields, sometimes accompanied by pigs and sheep. A short drive into the Dorset Downs provides further routes. Walk in the footsteps of Thomas Hardy and his characters or swim at various points along the River Stour, renowned for its clear, appealing waters. The Iron Age fort Hambledon Hill (01297 489481), is a few miles away with a steep 20 minute climb to the top. The slopes are trodden in interesting history but today it's a peaceful place, home to a nature reserve preserving the Adonis blue butterfly that flourishes on the chalkland downs. Sturminster Newton has a good collection of pubs and shops but travelling a little further to spots like Sherbourne and Shaftesbury is an excellent choice.

Food & Drink

The farm produces award-winning organic meat under a separate brand name, 'Angel Cottage Organics', which is available onsite during the camping season, along with their free range eggs. Order the night before and they'll be delivered to your tent along with local organic milk, freshly baked bread and organic butter. With advanced notice you can also ask for sausages, chicken, lamb and pork from the freezer. For a good pub, try The Antelope Inn (01258 817295; 1 mile) The Green Man (01258 920022; 2½ miles) or The Ibberton (01258 817956; 4 miles).

Socially distanced camping

In the middle of a pandemic, this was the perfect place to camp. With so few pitches, we felt perfectly safe. The facilities were excellent and the owner very friendly and approachable. We cycled around a lot so this was a great base for exploring north Dorset. The accessible freezer was a real added bonus for helping us keep our cooler cool the whole weekend. We also enjoyed the firepits and local produce delivered to our tent!

Beautiful camping experience

The setting couldn’t have been more perfect. Beautiful rolling countryside. Very quiet campsite with loads of space between the 7 tents. Fresh milk, butter and food for our barbecue delivered to our tent . All organic and delicious . Can’t wait to return next year .

Amazing Bell Tent!

Me and my partner stayed in one of the bell tents, which is surrounded by beautiful scenery. It was all perfectly laid out to every detail with a eco friendly feel with the compost toilet and mattress made from recycled jeans (which was super comfy)! Fire pit supplied worked perfectly, with the option to buy fire wood on site. Facilities were clean and lots of information given about surrounding areas. Couldn't fault a thing! Cant wait to go back again!

Mums and daughters FABULOUS camping trip

Such a wonderful camp site! Just how camping should be - in the countryside, peaceful, beautiful, not many tents in the field, no cars on site, clean facilities and friendly, helpful host. Loved having a fire pit and so nice to wake up to sausages, fresh bread, milk and butter delivered to our 'doorstep'. We took our own tents, there was plenty of space, very reasonably priced. Thank you Tom. I can't wait to go back.

Quite, relaxed, clean and stress free environment.

Peace and quiet in a secluded location. Clean and tidy facilities which were well managed for the number of people on site - we’d never have to wait to use the bathroom here. Such fun using the wheelbarrow to take our kit to the tent - and great that there were no cars on the field. The view - nothing but beautiful Dorset landscape, no a house in sight. Most definitely will be visiting again. Thank you for having us.

Getting There

Haddon Copse Farm is situated on the Sturminster Newton to Hazelbury Bryan road – do not take the fingerpost turning to Fifehead Neville but continue for 150 yards and you will see their wooden farm sign. At the top of the track, on the left, there is a car-parking area. Park here and use one of the barrows to take your belongings to one of the seven pitches marked in the field. No vehicles on the campsite field. Settle yourselves in and the owners will come and see you at some point.
