Shepherd's huts and bell tents on the farm with a prime location between historic Dorchester and seaside Weymouth

Considering how close it is to the country town of Dorchester, Dewflock Farm has a wonderfully rural feel. Just two miles from the charming old town centre, this glamping site offers a true townie’s alternative – a working farm and views across the rolling Dorset downs.

Home to a scattering of bell tents and a handful of shepherd's huts, campers can bring their own kit and dive into an unfurnished bell or opt for the more luxurious option: a tent or hut with everything, including double and single beds, linens, towels, rugs and furniture. Somewhere in between is the 'part-furnished' option, which has a double bed but none of the other frills. Every tent and hut, however, comes with a good-sized fire pit fitted with a barbecue griddle and there's a superb field kitchen for all to share, equipped with all barbecue tools as well as crockery, cutlery, fridges and freezers and a washing up area with hot running water.

Dewflock Farm is a particular hit with families who are most at home in the bell tents. The meadows, in which the tents are pitched, provide plenty of space for children to fly kites and kick a ball around, while, in the mornings, littl'uns are most often found feeding lambs or the farm's goats. There's an on-site cafe in the old pig shed (breakfast daily and wood-fired pizza nights on Wednesday and Sundays), which doubles as a useful family space with a lounge area, television and WiFi. The most popular past time comes after breakfast, when hosts Tom and Verity roll out the Dewflock Mini Land Rovers for young campers to drive outside (or on a course in the barn if it's raining).

The real benefit of the place, though, for families and couples alike, is its position between town and seaside. For those who don’t mind a good stroll, Dorchester is within walking distance and has enough to occupy you for a day or more, while, just to the east of the campsite, the vast Maiden Castle is one of Europe’s best-preserved Iron Age hill forts and well worth a visit. South, meanwhile, a short drive leads you to the famous Jurassic Coast and it’s popular combination of beaches, cliffs and coves.

We had a lovely break in a part-furnished Bell Tent. Verity was on hand with good coffee and to answer any queries in the morning. The site facilities were excellent and was well-placed for visiting the coast and Dorchester.

Really lovely first time glamping
My goodness! We loved staying at Dewflock farm so much. Verity was a lovely host and had helpful travel tips and really wonderful stories. We stayed in the partially naked bell tent which was a great first time glamping experience for the five year old we were traveling with. Remember to bring blankets and pillows! We also loved breakfast, real coffee, baby goats, ponies, sheep, donkeys, and… mini Land Rovers for the kiddo. Amazing!

Absolutely amazing stay at Dewflock
We had the most fantastic time at Dewflock camping and were reluctant to go home! Verity and her family were so incredibly welcoming and had thought of all of the finer details to ensure we were fully equipped for our Glamping experience! I could not speak more highly of what they have to offer and will be recommending Dewflock to everyone! It’s such a special place and we’ve created many precious memories. Our children 4 & 6 had an absolute blast, they had so much fun and we’re occupied by the table tennis, table football, games, visiting the lambs, beating the maize maze and driving the mini landies! I have created a reel to show everyone how beautiful is: https://www.instagram.com/reel/CgtigNhj_ZC/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

From the host
Dewflock Farm is ideally placed to offer families and couples a chance to explore the Dorset countryside and the Jurassic Coast whilst having a base that offers a safe and interesting environment. With cattle and sheep in neighbouring fields and the farm orphan lambs on the loose, children will really love the place. Our accommodation is spaciously set up in 10 acres of pasture all with easy access to toilets and showers. There are two sets of toilets and showers all with flushes and hot running water. The field kitchen is equipped with fridges and freezers for everyone to use as well as plates, bowls, cutlery and utensils. The Pig Shed Cafe does amazing Barista coffee and breakfast rolls to either eat in or snuffle back to your bell and enjoy in bed! Dewflock is also home to Dorset Mini Landies and we invite our smaller visitor to test their driving skills and have a go as an included treat. Our resident lambs, goats, donkeys and ponies are also on hand to be met.
Nearby attractions

On site fun includes the chance to help feed lambs and goats or to collect eggs from the chickens. After breakfast, smaller visitors have the opportunity to drive the site's Mini Land Rovers and there's plenty of space to run around and play games outside and in the games barn. The site is less than two miles from Dorchester and less than 10 minutes' drive from seaside Weymouth. There's a market in Dorchester every Wednesday and Saturday and you can find out about the area's history at the Dorset Museum (01305 262735). The sandy beach at Weymouth is great for a day out and the town is also home to The Sea Life Centre (01202 666900). Weymouth is part of The Jurassic Coast with historic Portland Bill and Chesil Beach nearby. For fossil hunting, head 25 miles west to Lyme Regis or east to Kimmeridge Bay.

Food and drink

The on-site Pig Shed Cafe is open for breakfasts from 7.30am to 9.30am serving breakfast rolls and Barista coffee to enjoy in house or to take back to tents. On Wednesday and Sunday evenings, the farm's made-to-order oven pizzas are available too. Should you want to eat out, Dorchester is just five minutes drive away and has a market on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The town also has a great range of family-friendly chain restaurants, like Nandos and Zizzi, as well as independent restaurants and takeaways that deliver to site.
