Peaceful friendly camp site
I camped solo as a base for a cycling mini break. Hosts very friendly, plenty of space, showers & loos great. Everything I was looking for at a fair price. I fancy coming back with my wife sometime to stay in one the glamping options.
One of our favourite camping experiences
The hosts are absolutely lovely. Nicky and Andy made us feel so welcome and offered solutions to our car being unlockable when we arrived owing to a car accident enroute. The facilities are wonderful. Warm, clean, roomy bathrooms, hot showers and hot water to wash up. Plus washing machine, tumble dryer and airer. If you love peaceful, beautiful countryside, with pigs, chickens, sheep and horses you will feel like you have arrived in paradise. Feeding the pigs apples was a big highlight. Highly recommended for camping and relaxing. We will definitely be back to camp again and to stay in the shepherds hut, drovers hut and yurt... with log burning hot tubs...sounds like heaven!!! Thanks so much for a brilliant time in North Devon.
This is a lovely campsite. Friendly owners, great information on booking and arrival. The facilities for the price of a grass pitch are outstanding. Toilet blocks with showers, warm and clean. Washing machine, fridge/freezer and charging place for phones make it easy for longer stays. Our baby loved all the animals on the farm. The site provides fresh eggs and meat if you speak to the owners directly or alternatively it is really close to a local farm shop for supplies too. 20 minute drive from lynmouth where we did lovely walk, close to the coast for beach days too. Grass pitches big enough for larger tents at no extra cost. Fastastic site highly recommend.
Campsite with Great Vibe and Facilities
Myself and my partner camped on a grass pitch at Westland Farm at the beginning of September. The location is excellent for exploring North Devon- approximately 20 mins drive to Woolacombe and then 20 minutes in the other direction to Lyton. The campsite is truly on a working farm (watch out for the chickens as you drive through the farm to get to the campsite!) Which is very unique but at the same time the facilities are excellent, with the shower/toilet block being made up primarily of shower 'rooms' so there is plenty of space to shower and get changed without being constrained to the usual camping shower cubicle. The shower blocks are permanent warm with continuous hot water. The owners are very friendly and helpful and they creat an extremely chilled camping vibe - you can pitch up wherever you want (no marked out pitches) and the best thing is they let you borrow one of the farm shovels to dig out your own fire pit wherever you like in the field so you can have your own campfire each evening! Will definitely return to Westland Farm if we camp in North Devon again.
Great to escape the hustle bustle
We had a really relaxing couple of days at Westland Farm. Its absolutely ideal for children with loads of space and the novelty of animals onsite to stimulate them away from a TV!! Facilities are clean and great to have washing/drying/fridge to make life easier. It's close to the beaches without being on top of the monstrosity holiday parks but also really close to the moors. Would thoroughly recommend trying the Lynmouth railway as a trip.
Owner so welcoming and shower block fantastic. Loved seeing the goings-on on the working farm. Quiet, well-spaced pitches and well-located for all the North Devon attractions. Will go again.
Lovely hosts, great facilities, amazing atmosphere & fantastic location
Fantastic break over the August bank holiday weekend. Met on arrival by Nicky, who is lovely and very attentive as a host - there whenever you need her, and incredibly helpful & kind. Able to pitch wherever we wanted, with a choice of 2 very large fields. Fantastic heated toilet and shower block, with huge showers, incredibly clean. Shared fridge & freezer, & plug sockets, with honesty box for eggs & pork from the farm. Great system of cleaning with Covid, all felt very safe. Children able to join for animal feeding time each morning (pigs, cows, horses, chickens) which they loved! Able to dig our own fire pit and have fire with logs from the farm. Location is fantastic, with loads of walks, cycles (the Tarka trail) and beautiful sandy or rocky beaches all within easy reach. Would definitely recommend a stay here!
Thank you for such a wonderful stay on Westland Farm and for making my first time camping so enjoyable. The site itself was quiet and relaxing. The facilities were incredibly clean and Nicky and her husband were very welcoming. It was great to use fresh farm eggs on a morning. The farm is really well situated for exploring all of Devon! We also really enjoyed meeting their little dog! She was a real highlight of the trip!
Excellent stay at Westland Farm
We had such an enjoyable stay at Westland Farm. It was relaxing and quiet, just what we needed before going back to work. Staying there gave us easy access across Devon. The facilities were incredibly clean and we loved being able to cook with fresh farm eggs on a morning. Nicky and her husband were welcoming and lovely, no question was too little. Meeting their little dog had to be a highlight! Thank you for such an enjoyable stay and for making my first time camping a success!
Perfect combination of idyllic surroundings on a working farm and hosts doing all they can to ensure a happy stay.
Having just returned from a twelve night stay on the grass pitches, which included visits from both Storms Ellen and Francis adding to an awesome camping experience; we can’t wait to go back! Nicky was so welcoming and attentive, striking a perfect balance between ‘there if you need her’ and laidback. The farm is in a tranquil, gorgeous setting, with spotless, safe (including Covid-secure) facilities. We both agreed we’d have walked across hot coals for those luxury hot showers, gales or not (WOW!) Easily drivable to all the very best spots in North Devon and Exmoor. All in all, a very much appreciated end to summer and months of lockdown, leaving us recharged and ready for work and whatever the next seasons may bring. See you next Summer!
Back to old school camping.... fantastic
Just got back from a long weekend camping. It was so nice to just be in an open field with the amazing views and open space. The facilities were fab. It was so warm in the shower block I almost slept in there!! The kids loved all the animals, Nicky(the owner) would take all the kids round to feed the pigs and check for eggs from the hens. My LG said this was here favourite part! Nicky and her husband were so helpful, even helped put the tent up. We will be back but with out the kids and in the yurt!!
Lovely campsite, good facilities
Lovely campsite in North Devon, fantastic toilet and shower facilities and the ability to make camp fires was fantastic. Nice to have some animals on site, recommended to all.
Living my best Life!
Beautiful site, I loved being able to sit out, admiring the countryside views. The camp was family friendly and peaceful. There is some road noise in the day but is quiet at night and the night sky is amazing here. We really enjoyed creating our own camp fire. The showers were a great pressure and georgeously warm and there was plenty of cleaning materials and processes in place to keep Covid safe. A great place to enjoy nature and enjoy the delights of North Devon.
A wonderful camping experience
We received such a warm welcome from Nicky and Andy on this campsite and being able to see and feed the animals delighted us all! The animals were so happy and well looked after and being able to collect and then eat the eggs was really exciting for my son. The site is beautiful. Wonderful views and plenty of room for children to run wild in natures' playground. The toilet and shower facilities were exceptional and so warm, we were able to dry all of our clothes after a wet couple of days. The site is also within a short drive to some beautiful beaches. We are keen to return!
Magic camping experience on a working farm.
We had such a wonderful few days there. Amazing views, a stream, the hot tub, the pigs etc etc. 15 min drive to great beaches. Nicky was so friendly and helpful. The relaxed trusting atmosphere and that we could choose where to pitch our tent and have a fire make it feel so nice. Really couldn't have been better. We will be back!
Lovely place run by great people
Have just come back from a few days camping at Westland and we had a great time. The facilities are great - good showers, washing up and charging points, drying rooms; everything managed very well. Beautiful scenery, close to the coast, you can have fires; kids had fun going wild in the fields. Will come back to try the clamping huts and hot tubs! Thanks Nicky and Andy! Recommended.
One of the most welcoming camp sites on a working farm... ever!
Nicky and Andy are such welcoming and kind people. As well as being very hard working farmers, they make time for children and grown-ups alike. Our two year-old was totally enamoured with being able to feed, pet and even hold farm animals. She held chicks, collected eggs, fed the horses and the pigs... all this fun before even leaving the campsite! The location is ace because there's Woolacombe, Porlock, Lynmouth and all the rest just an easy drive away through beautiful countryside. Also - how many campsites have plenty of loos and constantly hot showers in really nicely done rooms with mirrors and heated towel rails?!! We had a fire pit and cooked on fire and stove. We stayed during storm Francis (ha!) and it mattered not one bit. We'll certainly come again. Magical.
Just back from a week camping stay, we were greeted on arrival, given a tour of the facilities and offered to pick our spot. As a large group we were able to make a camping village, which included a shelter and we were offered a spade to make our own fire pit. The facilities are the best we had seen with large shower rooms for families, a washing machine, tumble dryer and even a fridge freezer selling some meat. There were clothes airers to dry off your wet gear, and even chocolates left following a storm to cheer up the campers! The children were invited into the barn from 9 in the morning to see all the animals during their feeding time, which they loved. Andy & Nicky were extremely accommodating to everyone’s needs. There is a reservoir 5 minutes down the road which was a lovely walk and sandy beaches 20-30 minutes drive which are good to bodyboard. The only downfall was the busy road, so you had to drive everywhere. We stayed during the storm, Nicky was so generous and allowed the younger children to stay in one of the Sheppards Huts as it was available for one night which was so kind and gave them some reprieve. We also had a dip in the hot tub! Nothing was too much trouble ..... we all had a fantastic time and would definitely recommend and come again. Thank you 😊
Fantastic campsite on a working farm
We loved this campsite, a really good combination of excellent facilities and ‘proper camping’. The kids loved meeting all the animals. It’s in a lovely location, lots of options for days out nearby and Nicky was super welcoming. We will be going back!
Lovely facilities and open fields
We had a lovely few nights in August. Nicky was very welcoming and showed us the most popular spots to pitch but left us free to choose our own which is always a bonus. The best showers we’ve ever had on a campsite and very generous with power sockets, fridge/freezer space and drying space with the heating on! The site has lovely views and great access to beaches, valleys and walking.
Fantastic Stay at Westland Farm
We had a fantastic stay at Westland Farm. Great communication from Nicky before we turned up in response to email questions. Plenty of room to pitch our tent with friends and easy access to all the facilities. Fire pits can be dug near your pitch, wood (£6 a bag) collected from the barn and plenty of drinking water taps around. The shower block is a short walk and has possibly the best showers I've ever used (great temperature control for the kids) and a couple are big enough to accomodate a whole family. Other facilities include use of a fridge/freezer, washer, dryer, airer and charging points. Plus 2 outdoor sinks for washing up. Nicky is incredibly hardworking and accommodating and allows the children to join her on her morning animal feeding rounds - which we loved. Lots of recommendations for pubs when you've run out of steam to cook in the evenings and beautiful, sandy beaches are a 20-30 min drive away. The views from the campsite are beautiful and we would happily book here again next time we're around. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
Fantastic stay at Westland Farm
We had a fantastic stay at Westland Farm and I heartily recommend the site. Plenty of space in the camping fields and easy access to firepits and water points. The showers are possibly the best showers I have ever used anywhere (great temperature control for the kids) and the other facilities (toilets, fridge/freezer, washer, dryer, airer, charging points and 2 outdoor sinks) were perfectly situated and ample for the number of campers on site. Nicky is incredibly hard working and accommodating and allows the children to help her feed the animals on her morning rounds - which ours loved. The views from the farm are beautiful and the beaches only 20-30 mins away. The pub recommendations were also appreciated on the days we ran out of steam to cook an evening meal. We love this part of the world and would definitely book to stay at Westland Farm again.
Great camping exoerience
Such a great site, loads of space, amazing toilet / shower block (huge warm clean showers). Great facilities including fridge freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer. The animals were lovely especially the pigs. Being able to ha e a campfire was amazing with logs available to buy on site. Nicky is a great host and very visible and willing to help. She showed us the yurt. It is spectacular, we will most definitely book a stay
Beautiful setting, working farm, friendly owners
We just spent a weekend here- my daughters had the Shepherds Hut and we were in a Campervan. It is a beautiful setting with rural views. Shower and toilet facilities good. As a working farm it is great for kids as animals around the place. Shepherds hut comfortable and hot tub great to relax in at end of the day! Relaxed atmosphere and attitude from friendly owners. Near to lots of beaches and a zoo and animal park. Only downside from my point of view is that the busy road prevents leaving the site apart from in a vehicle- too dangerous to walk or cycle which would have been my preference. Apart from that a lovely place!
Lovely family holiday
Our second stay at the farm, we love the peaceful location, beautiful views and close proximity to an array beaches and interesting towns to visit. The children love the experience of seeing and learning about the animals on this working farm and Nicky and Andy are so friendly, welcoming and patient in answering all their questions. The facilities are clean and modern with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Looking forward to visiting again next year!
Calm, quiet and unassuming
We camped with Nicky for 4 nights. Had an amazing view of the fields and valley beyond. It was our first time camping on a farm and found we enjoyed it more then a readymade campsite. The family are lovely and welcoming. Would highly recommend. You do have shower/loo and other general facilities available, just a short walk up the field. Lots to do only a short drive away. Definitely heading back soon
Beautiful setting with relaxed atmosphere and welcoming for families
We arrived with two adults and six children for four nights and were immediately welcomed and invited to pitch where we wanted in two generously sized fields. We had loads of room for the kids to play with badminton and bubbles and not bother our neighbours. The children got stuck in with getting to know the animals, which is allowed, and feeding your vegetable peelings to the pigs and piglets is encouraged! We dug our own fire pit with spades on offer from the barn, the logs were plentiful and by the next morning he children were excited to have collected their own eggs, putting money in the honesty box. The next day we bought some bacon and more logs - Nicky is very relaxed about you keeping total and paying at the end. The fridge-freezer also has an ice dispenser which was very welcome for the adults with their evening drink! The shower block had good sized rooms for families and the “glittering rainbow walls” were a hit with the kids! 😂 Thanks to the very relaxed and approachable attitude we were able to have a fantastic family time.
A relaxing few days with easygoing hosts
This campsite is fairly basic and rustic but has nice hot showers, washing/drying facilities and a fridge/freezer with farm produce available to purchase through an honesty box system. Bags of logs are available for campfires for a reasonable cost and the setting is very well-located near beautiful towns and beaches including Combe Martin, Ilfracombe, Woolacombe and Lynmouth/Lynton. We also visited Exmoor Zoo, which is a 5 minute drive away, as well as Quince Honey Farm, which included a beehive tending demonstration. Exmoor itself is on the doorstep so lovely for nice scenic drives. There is a fairly busy road that runs alongside the site, which can be noisy at times with tractors and trucks going by. There was also a large noisy group that pitched up next to us and played loud music for a couple of nights; so perhaps it may be an idea to advise families and large groups to camp in separate fields? Besides that it was a pleasant stay and our two year old son absolutely loved visiting the animals in the barn and checking the chicken coup for eggs every morning! Nicky was also very helpful and friendly. Would recommend if you are looking for a back to basics camping experience.
Lovely friendly campsite with ample space. As a working farm, it has a very relaxed feel and lots of animals to keep things interesting. - we enjoyed sampling some local produce too. The showers were hot and the facilities regularly cleaned, with access to a fridge/freezer and charging points. Quiet enough for a couple like us, but can definitely see the appeal for a family too. Conveniently located a short drive from lots of Devon towns and beaches, and pubs and farm shops.
Great back to basics camping
A really nice, easy going campsite. The site is pretty rustic and that is part of the appeal as it has a real countryside feel. The facilities like toilets/showers/washing room are modern and clean. It is a working farm so lost of animals around. We bought our kids and although there is no play area, they loved visiting the cows and sheep in the barn as well as feeding the pigs. Good location too. We were able to get to the main towns and beaches within about 40 mins. Recommended
We recently camped at Westland for 5 nights with our 3 children. Hands down one of the best campsites we’ve stayed at. The facilities were fantastic and clean - running hot water too! You can choose your pitch and plenty of space to do so. The views were incredible and the kids loved seeing the animals. It was great sitting round a campfire of an evening seeing the stars above us - we even saw 2 shooting stars whilst we were there. Nicky and Andy were so welcoming and friendly & it really is a gem of a place to stay.
Perfect rural experience
Me & my two kids loved our stay at Westland Farm. Beautiful countryside, lots of farm animals, yet access to great hot showers and fridge/freezer/washing facilities to keep the stay really comfortable. My 2 children, used to a inner city London lifestyle, loved being able to run free and explore. Nicky and her family were great with the kids, allowing them to pat newly born calves, feed the lambs and hold the freshly laid warm eggs. I was grateful for the fabulous hot shower, all very clean. We visited Woolacombe beach when we were there which was a 30 min drive and a great day out.
Just had 4 lovely days at Westland Farm. The owner, Nicky, takes the time to take the children around to help feed some of the farm animals in the morning if they wish. My boys absolutely loved the opportunity to get involved and Nicky is so patient. The campsite itself is great; there is loads of space to spread out, the showers are always hot and the space to dry clothes is very useful. We are already looking to book again.
Brilliant family break in a lovely place
Really enjoyed our two-night stay at Westland Farm. It's a beautiful farm and the shepherds hut was comfortable and really cute. There was plenty of space and the showers/facilities were the best we've seen at a campsite. Nicky was a great host and our little girl loved visiting the animals in the barn with her in the morning. A really great experiece!
Lovely family campsite
Spent a week camping at Westland Farm. Lovely, small campsite with great views and a fantastic warm, clean shower and toilet block. The campsite was full but there was still plenty of space. Owners were really friendly, helpful and welcoming. Our kids loved feeding the animals in the mornings. We loved sitting round a fire at night. Also lots of beautiful coastal valleys and bays to explore locally.
Peaceful working farm
A lovely quiet setting. My children loved being on a working farm and Nicky was very kind letting them join her every morning to take part in the jobs. Heated towel rails made for a lovely shower experience! Would recommend, especially to families.
Peaceful, friendly and picturesque
Idilic little campsite set on the the fields of a working farm. Small enough to give you a private, intimate feel, but big enough to include a heated shower and toilet block and access to a shared fridge. Tapped drinking water within the camping fields are an added bonus. Nicky (the owner) is very friendly. We would thoroughly recommend this campsite and will be back again.
Relaxed camping on a family friendly farm
We’ve just come back from five days camping at Westland Farm. What an absolute delight! Even though the site was ‘full’ it felt half-empty and there was loads of space for kids to run about and be free (we don’t have kids but they were never a bother, unlike some sites where everyone is on top of each other). The showers are lovely and warm plus they get a thorough cleaning every day. There is a communal fridge-freezer and a charging station for phones and wot-not. You are allowed to make fires and there is fire wood available to buy that will probably make 2-3 fires for just £6 a bundle. Great spot to explore the Coastal Path along the top of North Devon and close to some decent surfing beaches. Nicky is very friendly and accommodating, a real stellar host. Only thing I would recommend if you are taking a Campervan is a decent set of high wheel levelling chocks as the field is on a substantial gradient... and lastly, we thought the road noise might bother us but it is dead quiet at night. Top tip - get a spot near the pond for a lovely morning view 👌
Brilliant camping experience
We really loved this campsite. It’s in a great location to explore North Devon but also to enjoy being surrounded by rolling countryside and experience a working farm. Nicky was very welcoming and the whole experience felt very unpretentious and chilled. The facilities are great particularly the clean free hot showers. We also loved being able to dig our own fire pit. The campsite never felt busy and they had implemented a thorough and reassuring cleaning regime in response to COVID, with antibacterial gel and cleaning products to use in abundance.
Well worth a visit. Great for Kids!
We have just got back from our first glamping trip with children and we couldn't have asked for more! Westland Farm was just perfect for us. Dreamy little cabin with comfy beds and everything you need to cook including indoor and outdoor seating. Private toilet which was great as children could go on their own. Hot tub with stunning views. A pond with ducks, ponies and sheep out one window and hills and cows out another window. Not to mention ideal location for amazing pubs, activities and endless beaches for our 2 beach babies! Honestly could not have asked for better, thank you to owners Nicky and Andy.
Beautiful field in quiet working farm
Excellent location, friendly owners and very clean and well maintained facilities.
Me and my girlfriend stayed at Westland farm for a short weekend just to get away from our busy life’s and work, it was our first glamping experience and wow it has set our standards very high! We both felt very welcomed and free to explore the farm the pigs and tug were our favourite, the owners of the farm were so delightful helping me with starting fires and telling me information about surrounding areas, we are very thankful and we shall be seeing you again shortly
Great campsite, fantastic location
We had our first family camping trip at Westland Farm with our 5 and 3yr old girls, which was a great success. The campsite is the perfect place to enjoy camping near the stunning North Devon coast with lots of things to do for family days out. Nicky is a great host and the facilities including the hot water are excellent. Recommended!
Very welcoming. Great showers and heated towel rails!
Despite variable weather we had a great week camping at Westland Farm: the spacious shower rooms with heated towel rails enabled us to warm up nicely and get towels dry. Although we didn't need to use the washing machine and tumble dryer, we did make use of the clothes horse for drying our wetsuits in the heated shower block. The site is perfectly placed both for surfing at Woolacombe and walking on the north coast.
Response from Westland Farm
Thank you for your lovely review.
This was our first ever family holiday and I must say the drovers hut was amazing for us all to stay in. The kids loves the bunk beds. The log fire is stunning and warms up the hut beautifully. Having your own toilet and shower was a bonus for us and the hot tub was amazing. Cant wait to book again for next year.
Response from Westland Farm
Thank you for your lovely review. We loved the boys picture they left in the hut for us!
Fantastic camping on the farm!
A lovely campsite for relaxing and getting away from it all. Large field with loads of space for a peaceful spot and great views. Perfect location for exploring north Devon. Excellent hosts and our children loved feeding the chickens and pigs and collecting the eggs every morning! Clean and plentiful showers and toilets. Many thanks again!

Thank you Gavin for your lovely review
Held our son's wedding at Westland Farm plus family stayed in shepherds hut, drovers hut and newly weds in amazing yurt. We camped in our van on site.
The accommodation and camping facilities were wonderful. Clean and offering hot showers, wash up sink, washing and drying facilities. Also big fridge freezer. Nicky and Andy could not have been more helpful both with the wedding arrangements and overnight campers. Thank you so much for making the wedding so special .

Camping Heaven in Devon ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful, Fabulous, breathe taking ‘Westland Farm’ is an absolute gem of a find!! if you’re looking for a break from fast paced life, want to wind down & be amongst nature, sitting round a roaring camp fire watching the night sky then this is the site for you! Westland farm is a busy family working farm, Nicky & Andy love showing their guests all the animals, encourage you to feed the lambs, watch the HUGE pigs rollin in the mud & educating campers all about farm life. The Yurt, Drovers Hut & The Shepards Hut are so special & absolutely beautiful, they have been so lovingly decorated you won’t want to leave ❤️ We had family stay in all the huts, whilst my husband & I took the Yurt its like walking into a wonderland! Camping facilities are fantastic, loads of hot, powerful new showers have been installed very recently with a very cool twinkly deco 👍🌟 lots of toilets so no morning queuing required! Big washing up sink, washer, dryer, power points, fridge & freezer. Long term stays are sorted! Fresh free range farm eggs that you can collect yourself! The kids love to do this! Nicky & Andy are so welcoming, helpful, hardworking & fun, they’ll make you feel at home as soon as you arrive. Oh & Tuggy their gorgeous dog does not have a limp.... he just pretends! 🤣🤣🤣
Response from Westland Farm
Thank you for your lovely review Mrs Ward! We'd love to see you here again sometime
Amazing Easter Holiday Mini Break!!!!
We've just recently stayed in the Drover's Hut, and it was perfect!! You really are part of the farm. Nicky, Andy and Will, were lovely and couldn't do enough for us. The views are breathtaking and we literally shared a field with the sheep and their beautiful lambs. The Drover's Hut has a brand new bathroom, which is amazing and the main shower and toilet block is clean and lovely and hot!! There's plenty of beautiful places to visit locally, but we loved hanging out at the hut with the woodburner roaring and taking a dip in the hot tub. We wish we had longer, but will definitely be returning!!!
A brilliant campsite!
We had a wonderful stay for 4 nights in 'variable weather' over August Bank Holiday. The location is great for exploring the North Devon Coast/beaches and is right on the edge of Exmoor where we went in search of cream teas and found some excellent walks. Nicky has thought of everything and the campers' block with clean toilets/showers, includes a room with fridge/freezers, all sorts of things you can borrow, an honesty box for their highly-recommended home-reared meat/eggs and even has drying facilities! The children (14,11,9) loved the site and enjoyed visiting and feeding the animals, collecting eggs and playing in the stream. A real find. Can't wait to come back.
We camped at Westland Farm for 5 nights in August & had an amazing time. The facilities are clean, showers hot and the kids loved collecting eggs, feeding the pigs and playing with the chickens. The owners are very helpful and friendly. There’s a fridge and freezer you can use and plug sockets in the toilet block to charge phones & use hairdryers. You are given a lot of space around your tent and can have campfires. The views are lovely and it’s very peaceful. A great place to stay and we’ll definitely be going back! Thank you!
Relaxed camping - great for groups!
We stayed at Westland Farm as a group of nine people in the 25-30's age range. Nicky set us up in our own field which was great as we didn't have to worry too much about noise. The site itself was fantastic - the showers and loo's were clean and tidy plus there is a washing machine/tumble drier which was helpful with the inevitable rain! All in all a lovely weekend, close to beaches and nice pubs :)
Plenty of space, nice and peaceful
If you want a laid back camp site with lots of space and without an endless list of 'rules', then this will suit you. Campfires allowed, just dig yourself a quick firepit and help yourself to firewood. Everything from the washing machines, dryers, pick your own eggs, firewood, and farm produce (bacon, sausages, burgers) is all operated on an honesty box principle. Toilets and shower block was lovely and warm.
Lovely setting, best toilets and showers ever!
Lovely setting, best toilets and showers ever! Only students one night but wish we’d had time for more, will be back for sure
Friendly and helpful staff, good toilet and shower facilities, free to have a proper fire and everyone given plenty of space for their pitch. Proper working farm, couldn’t ask for more.
Great campsite on a working farm
We had a super stay here. The owner made us feel very welcome and showed the children the farm animals - you can help yourself to eggs from the henhouse. The camping field is spacious with picturesque views. The facilities are great and feel very homely - hot showers and a fridge freezer are particularly welcome. It is in a great location for exploring the coast, with great beaches at Wollacombe and pretty coves at Lee and Heddon's Mouth.
Beautiful campsite on the edge of exmoor
Just back from a wonderful holiday at westland farm. We were made to feel very welcome and although it's a back to basics campsite, the facilities were really great. My son's had a wonderful time and particularly enjoyed going to look for eggs in the chickens pen breakfast.
Fun atmosphere and good facilities
We had a great time at Westland Farm, everything that the owner's could help was enjoyable and endearing (I say that because though the weather decided to turn nasty amidst this heatwave, the farm still deserves 5 stars). The farm animals were fun and friendly, especially when we were allowed to feed the pigs our leftover veg, and when we said hello to the chickens whilst looking for eggs. They were definitely our favourite feature. The showers and toilets were definitely on the good end of the scale of campsite facilities, having a nice hot shower after a cold night or a cool shower after a hot day was very appreciated. The fridge-freezer with ice machine was good for cool blocks and buying bacon, sausages or burgers straight from the farm, as well as giving us ice for our mojito night! Finally, the feature that we based our search on, the access to camp fires, was very cool and a rare thing it seems nowadays, it was really nice of them to let us dig a fire pit and even supply firewood. I(Jack) had hours of fun doing bushcraft to light and cook on our open fire. Over all, if the weather had been a bit kinder, we would have had a perfect holiday, Westland Farm is a good campsite in a great location and we hope to come back someday
Wood fired hot tub
My partner and I had an absolutely lovely stay in the Drovers Hut. Nicky was very welcoming (as was Tug the dog!) The view from the hut was stunning, nothing but fields and trees as far as the eye could see which made our time in the hot tub that much more of an experience. Also the nights sky on a clear night was a sight to behold! in terms of the location there are a lot of things to do and places to see within easy driving distance, such as Exmoor zoo and the lovely coastal towns of Combe Martin and Lynmouth. Will definitely be recommending to my friends and family and returning very soon! :)
Rustic, relaxing retreat... A real treat!
We had a great two night stay here! Nikki was so welcoming and helpful the whole of our stay. We got lucky and chose a quiet few days meaning we had the whole camping field to ourselves. The views over the surrounding countryside were beautiful and we enjoyed relaxing BBQs (with tasty meat from the local farm shop) and roaring campfires watching the sun go down. The shower and toilet block was clean and it was really handy having use of a fridge and charging points for phones/other electrics. The farm is in a great location with stunning walks through Heddon Valley and Coombe Martin where we enjoyed an afternoon kayaking (both only fifteen minutes drive away respectively). With the massive added bonus of Nikki letting us use the relaxing wood fired hot tub one evening we know that we'll be sure to visit again in the future (and may even stay in the shepherds hut next time). Would definitely recommend staying here to anyone looking to get away from it all and enjoy a relaxing few days.
The ease of everything!
Loved our stay! We arrived late Saturday night to a quick and easy arrival and set up. Fire pit was great and loads choice of where to set up the tent. Shower and toilets were also warm which was a lovely change to previous campsites. A really great rural campsite that is just perfect!
Great peaceful camping experience.
We only stayed for one night - wish we had time for more. The camping field was ideal, plenty of space. We had our own fire pit and barbeque in perfect weather conditions. The shower and toilet block were very well kept. My daughter loved chatting to the pigs. A brilliant base to explore Exmoor.
Restorative oasis of peace
Westland is a fantastic campsite. Great access to Exmoor, Croyde, Ilfracombe, Woolecombe, Lynton & Lynmouth. Our girls love going to Westland - they love seeing the horses, piglets and chickens (fresh eggs every morning!) Good pub’s & farm shop nearby ( Ask Nicky ) Facilities are clean, well kept and in good order. Washing & drying, Fridge and freezer. Great base to explore N Devon.
Working farm with relaxed friendly owners
Probably one of the best campsite we have stayed. The owners make this a place away from home. They are friendly, relaxed and let one interact with the animals in a respectful manner. Plenty of space unlike most campsite. And plenty of information about the local area including a choice of walks and beaches.
Just the right place to unwind and relax
I stayed in The Drovers Hut which also has a wood fired hot tub. Such a cosy feel inside the hut and a bit like a tardis, much more room than you first imagine. What an absolutely delightful place to relax and unwind. Looking out on to the fields with the cattle gently grazing and the sheep milling around it was so relaxing. I got a lovely warm welcome from Nicky and Andy and encouraged to help feed the animals and join in whenever I wanted to. They've thought of everything to make the stay just right with hot showers, fridge/freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer only a short walk up the field. I would definitely go there again in a flash as it is a beautiful location with lots to see and do in the area. Thank you for a lovely time I can see why everyone wants to keep coming back. I will be too if you'll have me.
Beautifully finished yurt with everything you need
We stayed in the yurt for a weekend. Spacious and comfortable for a family of 4 with a kitchen bothy with all you need. Private at the bottom of a field but within a short walk from showers and fridges. Beautiful setting and perfect location for wxmoor
A wonderful wet, windy and wild week
We camped for a week at the end of July, with 2 other families. There is something magical about this place - it is so relaxed we were practically horizontal. There is masses of space and we practically had a whole field to ourselves. The facilities are great with access to a fridge/freezer and washer dryer. The children loved exploring and collecting eggs, which they could then buy and cook for breakfast. We particularly enjoyed being able to have a proper fire pit and spent time camp cooking and hanging round the camp. There is loads to do in this area and the landscape is glorious. Our hosts could not have been more accommodating or friendly and we look forward to returning. If you want a chilled, family friendly holiday this is the one for you. In wet weather make sure your tyres are good so you can get on and off the field ok! Thanks for a perfect camping week guys xxx
Love the yurt and shepherds hut - stayed with friends and had a fabulous stay. There is a kitchen area next to the yurt and that and the huts have been constructed to 'Country Living' magazine standard. Warm and cosy in the yurt and huts and so adults in these and children in tents works brilliantly with meals in the yurt or on the grass in the sun. Little stream is brilliant. The owner, Nicky, is the most helpful person in the world. Showers are hot, clothes washing facilities good, honesty box for eggs and wood - and all very relaxed! Definitely come here again
Hours of French cricket and telling ghost stories in the Mongolian Yurt!
We had a wonderful week end mostly spend around the camp fire, playing cards, cricket, music, telling ghost stories and cooking on our Anevay stove. The Yurt is so cosy and very comfortable - a real home from home, very well appointed - so much space. Nicky & Andy very kind and welcoming. We had the field to ourselves. Delicious eggs from the chickens, loved the pigs, and the whole friendly atmosphere. And the sea is only 15 mins away. Lovely to be back on Exmoor. Delicious lunch at the Royal Oak in Withypool on the way home - it doesn't seem to have changed in 30 years! Thank you so much. Sorry about the mud, the moles were happy!
A wonderful experience in a beautiful location
We recently stayed at Westland Farm in July and had a great time. There were 17 of us, a good mix of grown ups and small people and we stayed in the yurt, shepherd's hut, drover's hut and camped. The site is laid out really well and the facilities were really good. We had our own toilets and a kitchen hut with the yurt, which was so comfortable and had a wood burner for any cold moments. The toilet and shower block was also close by and really warm! We were exceedingly happy and had a fabulous stay. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a visit - Nicky and Andy were so very welcoming - and hope to come back again.
Just had a week stay at Westland farm. The site provides wild camping with just the right amount of facilities. The excellent toilet block/showers/utility room were well designed, spacious, and clean.Which was very much appreciated due to some inclement weather. It still feels very much a farm, and being able to pick eggs straight from the hen house was an absolute joy. Thoroughly recommended.
Wonderful Xmas break
We spent a glorious 3 days in the Drover's Hut from 26th-29th December. We had been here before - in the Shepherd's Hut in July and knew it would be a perfect break for the festive period. There's nothing to complain about full stop! Lovely couple, the most beautiful of locations, piping hot showers, and both huts completely gorgeous. From the Drover's the view was outstanding as the sun set and we were blessed with beautiful weather (despite the cold!) which meant we had the most amazing clear skies at night, a black velvet backdrop of thousands and thousands of stars, v romantic and just beautiful. We were left completely to our own devices, which is just what we wanted, but knowing that if there was anything we wanted we just had to ask. Free logs for the wood burner was lovely and once it got going we were warm as toast, even in the depths of December. Just love it, plan to come back in the summer to camp with our kids as the location is so amazing. We went to Woolacombe every day, a place we've known and loved for years and everything was just amazing. Cannot recommend this place more!
We had a fablous time at Westland Farm, we felt so welcomed and the owners were so helpful and went out of there way to make us feel comfortable. The farm is set in a place of natural beautiful over looking forest and fields. There are plenty of animals on the farm and we could collect eggs in the morning. This is our second time visiting and I'm sure we will return each year for a few days of relaxation and fresh air. 5 * campsite never disappointed
Camping as it should be.
A wonderful place to go. We had 5 nights at Westland Farm and our children were so sad to leave. Masses of space for them to run around, making friends and spending time communing with the chickens and pigs. Nicky is endlessly patient taking the children with her to feed the animals and answering all their questions, and it was a great opportunity for them to learn about where their food really comes from. The facilities are excellent, and as others have said the heated towels rails are very welcome, plus the large fridge freezer that means you never have to suffer warm beers. We loved gazing at the stars while sitting round a proper camp fire, eating eggs for breakfast that had been collected only 15mins before, and watching a cow hide her newborn calf in the next door field. Nicky and Andy are so welcoming and friendly - we will definitely be back!
Lovely and peaceful site
Stayed here a couple of times - both camping and in the wonderful Drovers Hut. Being on the edge of Exmoor you get stunning night skies. The Drovers Hut is lovely - well presented and with some great detail features around the place to set it off nicely. We lit the stove for the first night and the place got very toasty even from a few initial logs. It's a welcoming place, with a number of repeat visitors as a result. As others have commented the kids loved collecting eggs and seeing the animals around. Pretty easy to get around North Devon too as close to intersection to Barnstaple/ Woolacombe, Lynton and Ilfracombe. My impression is that they're continually making improvements year-on-year too. A great Coolcamping site.
Peace and quiet!
I've just got back from spending a week at this cracking campsite and will definitely be back again in the future! I had a really enjoyable stay here and it was great to be at a more "traditional" campsite with "proper" campers, having just spent the previous week in a more holiday-camp style place in Dartmoor. The campsite itself is a massive farmer's field (probably about 200m by 200m), so this site will never be close to feeling over-crowded. You are surrounded by several other fields which are part of the property, so it is great to enjoy your breakfast or an evening meal with views of sheep, horses and cows grazing. The farm also has pigs which are great fun to observe and chickens which leave fresh eggs for campers to buy. The facilities are very good here too, and the 2 shower rooms and 2 toilets are modern and clean and have good hot water. There is also a room with a very large fridge/freezer, a washing machine and tumble dryer and also 4 wall sockets to charge mobiles etc. I go camping to get away from the city lifestyle, so it is nice to go back to basics and to engage with nature, but having access to a few modern facilities (in particular a fridge and a power point) does make life a bit easier! It is also possible to park your car next to your tent, allowing you to not store absolutely everything you own in a cramped tent porch. This campsite represents excellent value, the hosts are very friendly and accommodating and the farm is well located: the North Devon coast and Barnstaple are within easy reach. All in all, I had a very positive experience at Westland Farm and I look forward to coming back again at some stage next year!
We planned to stay for 3 nights but stayed for 4 because we enjoyed it so much. Our two young boys were fascinated by the farm animals, especially looking for eggs each morning. One now wants to be a farmer! Great location, meant we had plenty to do during the day.
Great family holiday
We had a very enjoyable week at Westland farm and wished we could have just carried on for another week or two. Our three daughters had a wonderful time romping around the farm, (not bothering other campers though!) collecting eggs from the chickens, talking to the pigs, meeting Connie, the pony, stroking the lovely dogs, playing in the brook and enjoying masses of space in the field. We had a lovely time seeing the children play as children should, and we really appreciated the views and setting sun, the spacious showers with heated towel rails, clean loos (again spacious - can fit a hoard of children) the use of the fridge-freezer and the peace and quiet. Our hosts were kind, friendly and relaxed, always with time for us. We loved it!
A breath of fresh air
We had a brilliant weekend in misty Devon. The owners were so friendly and relaxed such a change from bigger campsites with rules a regulations everywhere. We could have campfires and relax in the peace and quiet of westlands farm ...which is in easy reach of the coast or the national park. Washing facilities are deceptively lovely... really hot and clean showers. We had the place to ourselves and have come back home happy refreshed and looking forward to visiting Westland Farm again. Thank you
21st Midsummer Night's Dream birthday
I cannot rave about this place enough. I don't think I will ever have another party again because it will never beat how incredible this one was! And it could not have happened were it not for the kindness, reliability, and hospitability of Andy, Nicky and their boys. I had been in contact with Nicky since January trying to plan a 21st weekend with 30 friends and she was incredibly efficient at answering and really helpful with any sort of questions I had. Planning something like this alone is a big job and I had SO much help from the Cleave family prior to the event and during that things ran really smoothly. I had been checking the weather hourly in the run up to the weekend and it was looking pretty bad with rain scheduled for the whole weekend. But Andy is like your personal weatherman because his predictions that it would only rain a few hours on the Friday evening and dotted showers (but not heavy) for the rest of the weekend was spot on! Andy and the boys came down on the day of set up several times with any sort of weird request I had even thought I had not specified it in previous emails (such as extra logs/a long pole to keep our tarp up) and helped.
The place is like a fairy garden, and the animals are so well looked after that it literally feels like the happiest farm with the happiest family. We were left alone but they were always around to help out, so it never felt like we were a) intruding, or b) being spied on like so many other places that host birthday parties. Furthermore, the local farm that Westland Farm supply their livestock to, catered during my 21st and it was absolutely delicious and just as lovely service.
I could not recommend Westland farm more for an event or even a long weekend stay in the yurt (which is also incredible in a comfortable bohemian way) and/or shepherd hut(s). Can't wait to come back for another weekend, minus my 30 friends!
wonderful half term
We booked Westland Farm fairly last minute considering we were looking to go over the first 4 days of half term (about 3 weeks before we were planning to arrive). To our delight their were enough pitches left for our group of three families, something we weren't banking on given the time of year. We are so happy to have discovered this campsite. From the moment we arrived we couldn't stop marvelling at our luck in finding such a pretty spot which was uncrowded, safe and fun for the kids and a short drive to the beach and villages of North Devon. Nicky let us choose where we wanted to pitch our camp and because there were only two other groups there, we had a sense of seclusion from the rest. The kids had more or less free run of the field and loved exploring the stream and collecting eggs from the chicken coops. For four days they kicked around barefoot, muddy and with hardly any mention of ipads or phones. Nicky and Andy have really nailed what family camping is all about, from the restricted numbers of tents to the onsite facilities, everything is managed with the comfort of guests in mind. We really LOVED the bathroom block. I say bathroom, because it was definitely more than just a shower/toilet block. Hot water 24/7, heated towel rails in rooms big enough for the whole family to get ready in, access to free use of the washing machine/dryer and fridge freezer meant meals were easy to plan and you can be a bit more adventurous than just what will keep in your cool box. The grownups loved the open fire policy and there are no silly rules about BBQs or (respectful levels of) music. We will definitely be going back and we'll be telling all our friends about it. Thanks to all at Westland Farm, keep doing what you're doing!
Ten days of bliss
From 18 - 27 May 2016 we had the most relaxing and peaceful time at Westland Farm. Glorious views, central heating in the showers and toilets - a huge bonus - and they were spotlessly clean, with soft toilet roll!! Nicky was an amazing host and Tug the dog a delight, as were the lambs, piglets, cock-a-doodle-doos and all the other animals. We felt very comfortable, welcome and very much at home in our tent at Westland Farm. It is the perfect base for exploring the breathtakingly beautiful countryside and coasts of Exmoor and North Devon. Would highly recommend to anyone whether Shepherd's hutting, Drover's hutting, Yurting or camping!
A very special place
We stayed in the wonderful Westland Farm Yurt during the October half term with our 4 your old son. It was the perfect family break. The yurt was warm and cosy, and our son rejoiced in helping to light the fire every morning. Nicky was the perfect host and let us run free around the farm, much to our little ones delight. We built a dam in the steam, fed the pigs, collected fresh eggs for breakfast and toasted marshmallows. We cannot recommend Westland Farm highly enough and we can't wait to come back.
A delightful campsite!
The real charm of this campsite is the rustic simplicity - it's not commercialised, never crowded and not tacky. But all the facilities are really good - nice toilet blocks (and showers), a communal freezer, firewood for sale (for use in the field - bonus!). We'll definitely visit again, and hopefully with a bigger group next time too.
Proper farm camping at its best, with Nicky the campsite owner/farmer's wife around and about when needed, full of friendly advice and info about the farm and its animals, including the wonderful pigs that live a stone's throw from the site. Toilets and showers are excellent, great to have a fridge in the shower block as well and the fresh farm eggs available were a treat. The views are spectacular, as are the night skies, made all the better by the fact you can dig a fire pit and then sit round the fire to watch the stars. Loads of space and peace and quiet...Wonderful.
Just camped for 5 nights here with my son, great fun, campfires, collecting eggs from the hen house, loads of space and great central location for exploring North Devon and exmoor. Facilities were 5 star, good showers clean toilets and a communal fridge freezer to keep your beer/ice blocks cold. Would Definitely recommend !
Just stayed here for 2 nights, it was our first trip in our camper van. The setting is lovely and Nicky was very helpful. Fresh eggs for sale. Pigs chickens sheep horses!, Even better the toilets and showers were really clean, also there was a washing machine tumble and fridge freezer. Just stunning defiantly a 5* rating.
Highly recommended for camping or glamping!
We have just spent a long weekend at Westland Farm for my 50th birthday party – we were a camping party of nearly 40 at the most – half of which were children. We hired the Mongolian yurt, Shepherd’s Hut, Drover’s Hut and the camping field – with one friend staying in the B&B in the farmhouse.
If you like back-to-nature camping this is the place for you. It is a working farm with sheep, pigs, horses, chicken and a little dog called Tug – who came visiting regularly to check we were all ok! Nicky and Andy, the owners, are lovely people who are the most accommodating and helpful hosts you can imagine. You are surrounded by fields and beautiful views of Wistlandpound Reservoir and Exmoor, Combe Martin beach is a 10 minute drive away (also several pubs and little supermarkets), the National Trust’s Arlington Court is a 10 minute drive away, Watermouth Castle (a fun place for children) is about 15 minutes away, Exmoor Zoo is up the road, Lynton and Lynmouth nearby, Barnstaple town – with its historical Pannier Market & famous Butcher’s Row is 20 minutes away, but if you want to buy meat for your barbeque then Besshill Farm Shop is only a few miles away and the place to go. Besshill are also available to hire for a barbeque on the campsite if you are having a party (http://besshillfarmshop-barnstaple.co.uk).
If you are after sandy beaches and surfing – Woolacombe, Saunton Sands and Croyde are about half an hour away. You are in a perfect location for a family holiday, romantic break or for a celebration. On the campsite there are several fire pits and you can borrow a Dutch oven to cook stews. The shower block has three showers (is soon to have central heating) – the showers are clean with plenty of hot water, three clean toilets (always with toilet paper!), there is a big fridge/freezer, washing machine and tumble drier and plug sockets for hairdryers. Make sure you take torches to get to the loos – there is thankfully no outside lighting to pollute the beautiful night sky.
There is a pretty stream running through the campsite with a little wooden bridge to the yurt, there is also a pond. The children had a fabulous time exploring and playing in the stream. Well behaved dogs and owners are allowed (but not in the yurt). We stayed in the beautiful yurt which slept four but I think you can request more.
The yurt itself is beautifully decorated and quite magical. Even though we were there on a windy, stormy night we very cosy in the yurt – beds are warm and comfy (with extra blankets), there is a wood-burning stove and rugs on the floor. There was a trunk full of games and children’s books. There is a kitchen table seating four, as well as a wooden picnic table outside. Also in the yurt we were provided with lots of hanging lanterns – some candle and some battery. There are plenty of solar lights outside the yurt too. Next to the yurt is a kitchen hut with all the cooking utensils you will need, camping chairs and cool box. There is a drinking water tap close by. Friends stayed in the Drover’s Hut (2 adults and 3 children) and the Shepherd’s Hut (2 adults and 2 children). Both huts are absolutely beautiful and so warm and cosy, both with wood-burners, little kitchens (gas hobs) and sinks providing running water. Again, there are all the cooking utensils you need – and lovely added touches – such as a jar of marshmallows (for toasting on the fire), flowers on the table and beautifully decorated. The Drover’s hut (the larger hut) has its own little patio/balcony with gates, table and chairs and a chiminea. The Shepherd’s Hut has a little gated-garden with picnic table and fire-pit outside.
I honestly cannot recommend this campsite highly enough and we will definitely return.
Got home yesterday after 3 nights in the Drover's Hut. A big group of us hired the whole campsite for a 50th birthday weekend. Best weekend. The drover's hut was gorgeous. There were 5 of us. My husband and I had the seriously comfy king-sized bed, 2 of the children had the most adorable bunks and the other one had the pull-out double under ours. The wood-burning stove was most welcome, as was the gas hob. We were able to make a cooked breakfast each morning. There are hot showers, loos, fridge/freezer, washing machine and tumble drier. The views are stunning. Kids ran free whilst the adults chilled. I'd go back in a heartbeat. It's a 10-min drive from Combe Martin, where we had ice-cream and played on the beach. Oh, the yurt is absolutely gorgeous, too. It's just the perfect place for families as you don't have to worry about the children.
Spring had sprung!
We spent a lovely 3 nights in the Shepheard's Hut. So cosy and loved the camp fires in the evening and little lambs running around the fields. Nikki was a great host and showed us around the farm which made the kids feel immediately at home. We still talk about Tug and what a wonderful time we all had.
Westland Farm Camping
We have just returned from 4 nights camping at Westland Farm where we met Nikki and her son who were very welcoming and who showed us around. The toilets and hot showers were clean and spacious, and the access to a communal fridge freezer, washing machine and dryer was an unexpected bonus. We had a campfire every night with wood available from the farm and the garage down the road for a small charge. Nikki also explained that there were Dutch Ovens available which we could use to cook over the campfire, these were amazing - hotpot the first night and a curry the second. The location is easy to find, and the campsite itself is very quiet and has plenty of space and lovely scenery. Nikki let us have a peek in the yurt when it was empty on one of the nights, and it looked very cosy and ideal for families. We didn't expect that being a few miles from Exmoor and the coast would be too much of a problem and were looking forward to leaving the car behind for the week, however as the roads nearby are narrow and have no footpaths, it makes it difficult to walk out anywhere from the farm, so we had to drive to wherever we wanted to go. That said, the coast and the coastal paths were gorgeous and well worth a visit. All in all a lovely, peaceful, relaxing and welcoming campsite. :)
If you want to guarantee happiness..
...stay at Westland farm. There's so much to say about this little place but i think 'tranquility' sums up our overall camping experience here. After a very warm welcome, we pitched up in a field with a few other tents, shepard huts and a teepee. The size of the field could well accommodate a large number of tents, however the owner likes to limit it to a handful of happy campers so we had loads of room between us and the next tents. There are no designated pitches so you can choose which beautiful scenery you'd like to wake up to and camp fires are welcome- we borrowed a Dutch oven from the farmhouse and made a sausage casserole over a small fire we made in the ground. The site is very peaceful and quiet, the only noise coming from the sheep and lambs in the surrounding fields. Toilet and shower blocks are immaculate and situated next door to the chicken pen where you are welcome to collect the eggs and make a fuss of the chicks. Although the site facilitates glamping, you can also get back to nature and the most basic form of camping if you wish to. Easy access to beautiful nearby beach towns- great for surfing and good food, local farm shops (try the cider and meat at Indicknowle farm for a truly mouthwatering experience) and immerse yourself in the humbling beauty of Exmoor. It's just so easy to stay here and feel part of the west country way of life. Blissfully happy.
We have just enjoyed a 5 day stay in the yurt with our 3 children (6,4&16months) and had a super time, the yurt is warm and snug with very comfy beds, and plenty of space! The kitchen shed is fully equipped, and the kids loved collecting eggs from the chickens, and toasting marshmallows over the fire at night. The kids loved the stream and bridge and spent hours building little dams. Very welcoming and helpful hosts! Thank you!
Westland Farm Camping & Yurt
We have just spent 10 days at Westland farm with our 9 month old baby. This was our first family camping holiday and its been absolutely brilliant! The field had a few other tents but there was lots of space (in fact one night we were the only ones in the field) and we never felt crowded. The scenery is lovely - rolling hilltops, beautiful skies and a babbling brook. We had a fire every night and sat out under the stars. Its in a great location - with Woody Bay, Lynton Railway, Heddons Mouth, Combe Martin all close by. The farm itself is great - Nikki and her family are extremely welcoming and we enjoyed getting to know the chickens (and eating their eggs), watching the sheep being herded, meeting the cows and horses. The facilities are kept pristine, and I must admit, having access to a fridge freezer, hot showers and washing machine meant camping with a baby was no bother at all. On our last night, Nikki was kind enough to let us stay in the yurt. It was gorgeous - we lit candles and the wood burner kept things toasty. All in all, we were extremely impressed and plan on returning next year. We can't recommend highly enough.
We recently had an excellent holiday in the Drovers Hut which I believe is a new (and very welcome) addition to the Westland Farm campsite. The hut is so well equipped and laid out that we were saying that we could live in it. Our 2 young children loved the sleeping arrangements which were 2 bunks at the end of a very comfy king size bed. They even have their own curtains. The wood burner and rocking chair make it cosy and easy to relax in. The decking area and BBQ made eating al fresco a pleasure too. Nicky and Andy made us feel very welcome and the kids loved getting fresh eggs for breakfast. We spent a lovely day crabbing at Combe Martin and the nearby reservoir was great for biking. This place is perfect for a family holiday or a romantic getaway. We'll definitely be back.
We spent a lovely weekend camping here, with only two other tents in the field. The owners are friendly and the facilities are kept clean. There is a fridge/freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer and electric sockets in the shower/toilet block. Small campfires are permitted and a shovel is provided to remove turf. Our children enjoyed seeing the farm animals and collecting freshly laid eggs for their breakfast. Wistlandpound Reservoir and Exmoor Zoo are both very nearby.
We enjoyed a lovely weekend at Westland Farm, staying two nights in the Shepherds. The hut was cosy and we are already thinking about going back to enjoy the fireplace in the winter. The countryside views are amazing and sheeps were our neighbours. Waking up with the trickling of the stream, we relaxed in the sunshine and explored the surrounding area. Local food was delicious and the farm has a great atmosphere with very friendly and welcoming hosts. Thank you and Dankschön! :)
Westland Farm Yurt
On the soggiest of Bank Holiday weekends we thanked our lucky stars to have booked the Yurt at Westland Farm. The four families pitches their tents around the yurt and piled in happy and warm away from the torrential rain. The log burner helped dry us and all the damp clothes and the beautiful decoration felt very other-worldly after tent canvas.... Nicky and Andy were thoroughly welcoming and helpful and the children sploshed merrily most the weekend in the stream. Hugest thanks, next time we will book the sunshine!
Fantastic cosy getaway
We stayed in the shepherd’s hut in the middle of winter and almost didn’t make it due to the snow. But I can thoroughly recommend visiting in the winter, the hut was warm and cosy and we loved the peaceful and magical quality that the snow brought to our stay. Don’t be put off by the cold weather!
Back to basics
I was sceptical about basic camping as my idea of camping is a static caravan but I agreed as Andy and Nicky were friends of my husbands from way back. It was a great field, tent places not marked out so there was loads of room to spread out and lots of space in between tents. In fact, only 3 other tents were in the field. The showers and toilets were clean, and they provided a large fridge freezer. I loved sitting round a camp fire at night, not something I'd ever experienced and it was so much better than a dodgy evenings entertainment at a clubhouse! Andy and Nicky were really friendly and welcoming. There was so much to do in North Devon, we are going to have to stay again. Hopefully in their gorgeous yurt!
Brilliant long weekend
We camped for 4 nights at westland farm. Nicky and Andy were friendly and helpful. We had a lovely location, not too close to anyone else so it was peaceful. The views were really nice. The location is great as you can easily get to Barnstaple and other places such as ilfracombe and combe martin. We got fresh eggs from the chickens which were tasty, and Nikcy chatted to us about the chickens! We will definitely come again.
This was our second stay in the yurt this summer and we've just come back from a four night stay. It was one of the nicest holidays we've had in the UK. Such an amazing spot and the location of the yurt is perfect! We loved walking through the field with fantastic views. How incredible to have breakfast outside next to horses and cows! The yurt itself is lovely and cosy and despite one night of rain, we felt well insulated! One of the only places we've stayed in where you have your own field, so we made the most of having fires with toasted marshmallows - yum! Nicky and her family were so welcoming and kind - thanks for introducing us to the new chick! The whole location of the farm is just great, perfect for the North Devon coast yet the farm feels really rural! Thank you for such a lovely holiday and, as precious reviews, we will be back!!!!
Nicky & her family made us very welcome at their farm and were always willing to help with our queries about the local area. We had the whole field to ourselves - one tent and a VW campervan. There is plenty of space for everyone and we didn't feel it was busy even though the shepherds hut and yurt were occupied and there was a large group of Explorer Scouts camping in the field next to us. The showers and toilets are kept lovely and clean and having a shared fridge to use was an added bonus for us. The farm is in a great location allowing easy access to the surfing beaches. We WILL be back next year. Thanks Nicky!!
Just returned from our third visit with the caravan, so peaceful with everything you need. Owners showed us the Shepherds Hut and the Yurt, so now planning another return visit to stay in one of them. They are amazing !!! Owners so friendly and helpful. Stunning area on the edge of Exmoor and only a few miles to the sea for surfing and canoeing. Wistlandpound Reservoir is so close and there is a beautiful walk around the reservoir. Excellent pubs near by. Our little haven ..... see you again soon Westland Farm !
Great weekend away. This was the first time we have stayed in a shepherds hut and it was lovely. I was looking forward to lighting the log burner, but it was warm and cosy and so we did not need to. After running around the field and playing in the stream the children slept like logs. The morning was a perfect start to the day, waking up to a beautiful view sitting at the table, it was so peaceful. The shepherds hut had its own kitchen facilities and everything we needed. The toilet and shower block was close, clean and spacious and it was so nice to be able to shower and have lots of room so all the clothes did not get wet which has been my experience at most other campsites. Great hosts and will certainly book again.
We have just returned from a week away staying in the shepherds hut and could not have enjoyed it more! The location is idyllic, peace and quiet and amazing views. The farm offers the perfect set up for a relaxing stay.
The hosts could not have been more welcoming, and certainly add to the relaxed atmosphere on the farm.
Surrounding the farm is beautiful countryside which we enjoyed exploring, a short walk to the lake which had stunning views also.
We will certainly be returning as we enjoyed it so much. Whatever time of the year visited would have its own benefits, it's certainly not a summer only location.
Would not hesitate to recommend to anybody. Although sites this good should be secret!
A group of us hired the Yurt, Shepards hut and took 4 tents. We had a great week end Hosts were very laid back and helpful. Logs delivered for camp fires. Toilets and showers adequate rather than luxurious.
The Shephards hut was gorgeous. Cosy, warm and really well equiped. Closer to the toilet than the Yurt too.
The only downside - this is a working farm and they moved the sheep out of the field when we arrived so we could set up camp. So lots of space - but lots of poo too. That said the kids had a blast. Loads of space, a stream to get wet in and no neighbours to disturb. However if you a clean freak this may not be the place for you.
Definitely recommend for a non commercial camping experience. Lovely walks, close to the sea, decent pubs close by too. I'll be back.
