About Higher Moorlands Farm

Suitable For

Camping, glamping, tents, campervans, kids, well-behaved dogs (on leads and not permitted in the yurt) – yes. Caravans, motorhomes, noisy folk – no.

If you’re interested in history, there are seven iron age hill forts in the surrounding Blackdown Hills, the nearest being Hembury Hill Fort, 10 minutes away. Dumpdon Hill Fort is also around 10 minutes and Castle Neroche is a 20-minute drive. Wildwood Escot Park (20 minutes) has plenty on offer for families and animal lovers, whether that’s honeybees, wolves or otters. The River Otter starts not too far from the site, around half an hours drive away, does, indeed, play host to a number of otters but has also become better known in recent years as the home for a number of beavers that are repopulating this part of England for the first time in centuries. For those that need a little more adrenaline, Dunkeswell Airfield offers sky diving, or there is the Mansell Raceway go-cart circuit, both are less than a 10-minute drive away.

Food & Drink

The nearest good pub is The Drewe Arms in Broadhembury (01404 841267), 10 minutes' drive from the farm with a big beer garden, good food and a great selection of beers, wines and gins. The Vine Inn in Honiton (0140442889; 15 minutes away) is also a good shout, famous for their traditional cream teas at lunchtime alongside a simple but effective menu. For your shopping needs, Honiton is also a good pick. It has a fantastic wet fish shop, an independent wine shop and three big supermarkets. Don't miss Otter Valley Dairy (15 minutes), where you can sit and eat your homemade ice cream whilst watching the cows that produced the milk (they also do great wood-fired pizzas).

Excellent peaceful site beautiful views

Early September and we’re the only people on site. Chose the site with the best view of the gorgeous valley below. Beautiful clear skies, no light pollution, so the most amazing view of the stars I’ve ever seen in this country. An absolute thrill. Beautifully clean facilities, hot showers, compost toilets. Honesty box for fruit/veg/local meat. Decent sized bag of wood for the fire pit at £5 kept going all evening, making a magical night. Totally chilled. Absolutely loved Higher Moorlands Farm.

brilliant location, very honest campsite, no frills.just good old fashion camping. owners leave you alone to enjoy yourself but are on hand if you need them. the only negitive point is the farm lane to the site is very pot holey, fine for 4x4s but any thing else take it slow and carefull :) defo worth a return visit

Good clean spacious basic camping

What’s good: - There was lots of space to pitch our tent. - Felt very safe for the kids to play, we ended up playing with balls/badminton on the ‘cut road’ (see below) - Two clean composting toilets & two clean hot separate showers. - Honesty shop for farm reared meat, eggs, cider & wood for fires in the evening. There’s a menu & text service if you want to order salad/veg. - Recycling station What would’ve made it better: - Improvements to the washing up sink. It isn’t covered so there’s no shelter from the rain/wind and only has a cold water supply (I ended up boiling water & carrying it over) - A small mirror in the shower or toilet. - Bigger cut grass areas for the kids to play. - Ability to leave non recyclable rubbish. Having packed up the car I really didn’t want to squeeze a bag of rubbish in. Overall if you want clean back to basic, rural camping then this is a brilliant place.

Peaceful relaxing campsite

Absolutely loved our stay at Higher Moorlands Farm! We spent 5 nights on one of the grass pitches with a fire pit which we lit and enjoyed every night! The showers are superb, really spacious [perfect if you have little ones with you or a teenage boy in our case!] and plenty of hot water. Compost toilets were fab, great to see the campsite focus on sustainability and environment. Enjoyed the night sky and star gazing. Easy to access nearby beaches, would recommend Beer and Sidmouth and Honiton nearby has a lovely high street with lots of independent shops. Thanks to Ollie and Eva for welcoming us and making our stay so enjoyable we will be back!

Very laid back camping

Lovely visit, great if you want to watch/listen to light aircraft and parachutists from the nearby small airfield. The plants and helicopters go right overhead very frequently. Apart from that, and the shooting over the hedge, it was a lovely quiet field. Never saw the owners at all and wouldn't know where to go if they were needed. Couldn't access the toilets at all, as not suitable for those with mobility issues - (luckily came prepared for that happening or would have been really stuck.) All in all, nice site but not enough for 5 stars.
