The site has maps and leaflets available explaining the best routes nearby and Jo and Tristan are also a wealth of local knowledge. Equestrians can also space in the neighbouring field to graze their horses. By car the coast is naturally a popular destination with top beaches within a 45 minute drive as well as beautiful Dartmoor National Park(01626 832093), but closer to home towns like Honiton(01404 43716), with its rows of red-brick Regency housing, and Tiverton, home to a fine Georgian church, make for fabulous stopping points to explore. Knightshays Court (01884 254665), Bickleigh Castle (01884 855363) and Killerton (01392 881345) also offer some extra history for those who enjoy exploring houses and gardens of the past.

Food & Drink

Two miles away, the Half Moon Inn (01823 680291) is a good choice and makes for a pleasant walk from the campsite. The pub is located in the centre of Clayhidon Parish and offers a stunning view from their beer garden of the Culm Valley as it opens towards Hemyock. They offer a great selection of local food and are particularly famous for their Sunday lunch and Friday evening fish and chips (served between 5:30 and 7:00 p.m). The Holman Clavel (01823 421070) in Culmhead hosts a great range of locally made ales. Sheppy's Cider Farm is located about 10 minutes away with a great farmshop and restaurant. Local takeaways also deliver direct to the site.

What a wonderful place

My partner, dog an I have just had a fantastic three nights at Kingsmead. We camped our tent on the Bluebell pitch which was truly magical, having electric was a new camping experience which we loved, a fire pit, wood and kiddling was there when we arrived. The site was spotlessly clean and the facilities were the best I have experienced when camping, very clean. The owner was lovely, helped us with ideas of fantastic walks near by and the Half moon Inn was a very nice pub. Thank you Kingsmead we had a very happy relaxing holiday and Maisie loved it 😊

Perfect mix of seclusion and accessibility

Fantastic week at Kingsmead. The facilities are great and well looked after. The site is beautiful with secluded woodland pitches and pitches out in the open. We had the latter which suited us well with our kids having the freedom to run around and meet the other children starting there. It feels like its miles from anywhere whilst being really easy to get to from the motorway and a short drive to Wellington, a pretty town with everything you could need. The owners and staff are lovely and very helpful, going the extra mile with the kids. Would love to return when our travels take us that way and will highly recommend to others.

Baby bear’s porridge… just right!

This was my first trip anywhere since covid started and I just wanted a few days to chill out and do not very much. Kingsmead was perfect! We had a secluded woodland pitch which had its own picnic bench and firepit. facilities were cleaned regularly, we had lazy walks around the lakes and stocked up on logs for the fire from the very friendly and welcoming owners. On the rare occasion we felt the need to move, it was only a half hour walk to a pub with great views. This was just what I needed
