Reforge Retreat, Bonfire Hill, Black Torrington, Beaworthy, Devon
It comes as no surprise that art and therapy are a big part of what is on offer at Reforge Retreat in rural Devon. You don’t need to be Van Gough to see the picture-worthy beauty of the place. A cute wooden bridges stretches across to a shaggy, shrub-covered island in the pond, bluebells brighten the woodland floor and tent pitches are mown into the long campsite grass, stitched together by trimmed pathways. The scene is therapeutic in itself, so massages and holistic treatments are really just an added luxury. Either way, you’ll feel thoroughly at ease in this arboreal bolthole.
The textured 18-acres, complete with a wonderful renaissance courtyard, are all spread around a medieval farm that Faith and Jules Warner call home and have been running as a successful bed and breakfast for years. It’s only recently that they’ve decided to extend their offering into the great outdoors, with furnished bell tents, yurts and a handful of regular camping pitches on offer.
Groups, in particular, have come to love the place. A cluster of six bell tents can be rented together and you can hire the whole sites for events, weddings and the like. Yet couples and families are in their element too – a private, pond-side bell tent, for example, has it’s own unique location, while a second bell tent, pitched amid an orchard, feels charmingly hidden away.
If you’ve got nippers to entertain, then petting the Kune Kune pigs and collecting eggs from the free-range hens is always a child-friendly crowd pleaser, while the semi-wilderness of the campsite grounds offer hours of intrigue and adventure. Or throw in the flip-flops, buckets and spades and take off on day-trips to the beach. It’s around half an hour to Devon’s popular north coast, where the beaches of Westward Ho! and Bude await. You’ll be glad, when you see the jam-packed campsites of the coastline, that you choose this inland retreat – a genuine ‘refuge’ from the crowds.
The Owner Says
Just Perfect stunning and peaceful
Just home after our Second Stay at Reforge Retreat. This place is simply stunning, peaceful and complimented with fabulous hosts. The Bell tent was huge and was very comfortable and we can't wait to come back again.
Me and my wife and children stayed here recently and absolutely loved it. We stayed in a beautiful new bell tent. The camp has great clean facilities, tons of wildlife including dragonflies near the lakes and we even saw a deer in the woods. The owners are very helpful and even pointed out the local produce sellers and recommended a trip to bude which was great. Excellent place in a beautiful location. 5 star's is not enough. Amazing.
