Cracking location on the edge of Dartmoor National Park
Located just a couple of miles outside Tavistock, on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park, this long established campsite has made a fantastic moving by introducing a couple of brand new safari tents to a quiet corner of their field. The result is the chance for an easy glamping break amidst some of the most beautiful countryside the southwest of England has to offer. All you need to bring is the duvet!

The place itself is a smallish site, but a spacious one, with excellent facilities and two well-equipped safari tents, each with two bedrooms and proper beds (they can sleep up to four adults or a family of six), a kitchenette with hob, microwave and fridge (plus pots, crockery and cutlery) and a living area that extends to an outdoor terrace. There are decent, modern facilities (shared with fellow campers and caravanners) that including individual showers rooms each with their own toilet and sink and a laundry and washing up area.

As for the surrounding area, it's a corker! Tavistock is a very pleasant Victorian market town, on the river Tavy, with remains of a once-famous Benedictine Abbey, and has plenty of places to eat, drink and shop. Dartmoor is right on your doorstep, and yours to explore; and national cycle route 27, which runs from Ilfracombe to Plymouth, passes within 200m of the site so you can ditch the car while you're here and walk and cycle to your heart's content.

Your time spent…where it matters Time away with family & friends is great, but let’s be honest - it can sometimes be hectic to even think about! Ready Camp takes away some of the stresses and hassles of camping - having a pre-erected, canvas-wrapped haven with real beds, a kitchen and dining area. There’s no need to fill the car rammed to the rafters with an endless supply of ‘just in cases’. We give you back the time to do the fun things together with your friends and family. Pack your bedding & a sense of adventure Walk into a comfortable haven with cosy furnishings and oodles of little luxuries.  With two bedrooms, an open plan living/dining area where you can wine and dine to your hearts content or put your feet up on the comfy settee after a long day’s adventure. The Kitchen area includes a fridge, microwave and hob, along with basic cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery. (We’ve even supplied the corkscrew!) When it comes to light’s out…we’ve even included a torch for those midnight toilet trips, or just to make funny shadows on the tent!
Nearby attractions
Just a couple of miles west of the site, Tavistock is a lovely town, home to some historic abbey ruins, and a good choice of shops, cafés and restaurants. About six miles north of Tavistock, the village of Lydford is topped with a stunning Castle (0370 333 1181) but is mostly visited for its dramatic Gorge (01822 820320), which runs for over a mile from the whirlpool of the so-called Devil's Cauldron to the 100-foot-high White Lady Waterfall. As for Dartmoor, the unappealing town of Princetown is a short way to the east and is home to the National Park's information centre (01822 890414): from here you can hike up to Wistman's Wood, which is a relic of the original Dartmoor Forest, which covers much of the moor, or visit the haunting Merrivale Rows – prehistoric standing stones that make another good target for a walk.
Food and drink
The best and closest place to the campsite is perhaps Drake's Café (01822 617697), which serves good hot breakfasts, lunches and afternoon teas. In Tavistock, the Cornish Arms (01822 612145) is a proper gastropub and a welcoming local at the same time, while the Elephant's Nest in Mary Tavy (01822 810273), a few miles north of the campsite, is an old beamed village pub that serves food that is a cut above the norm. Finally the Castle Inn (01822 820242), further north still in Lydford, is a lovely 16th century inn with a beer garden that also does decent food.
