Lakeside camping with streams, rope swings and farmyard animals in rural Cornwall

‘There’s very little to do here, no bells and whistles’, says Tony Hedges, proprietor of Pleasant Streams Farm Camping. Yet this is indeed a pleasant field in which to pitch a tent. Campfires are encouraged, and often the crackle-pop of wood on the fire is the only noise in the evenings here. There may be no clubhouse or kid’s club but, apart from that, we’d say Tony is underselling the place. There’s quite a lot to do here; both on site and off it.

There’s a lake in the centre of one of the two camping fields which not only attracts wildlife, but also beckons you to hop in the rowing boat for an afternoon afloat. There are streams to paddle in and ropes to swing on and there’s a summerhouse with books and games for rainy days. Then, of course, there are the animals: Matilda, Bluebell and Rosie the miniature goats, Rodney and Del Boy the pigs, and the chickens and ducks that lay fresh eggs for your breakfast. And that’s not even counting the field mice, owls, herons, pheasants and badgers.

Off site it’s a ten-minute stroll to the local pub in Sticker, four miles to the coast, five miles to St Austell and eight miles to The Eden Project. But that’s not the half of it. The campsite is at the gateway to the Roseland Peninsula, a lovely part of the south Cornish coast. Most people that come here explore by biking along the nearby Pentewan Valley Trail or hiring the campsite’s sea kayak and heading for the beautiful coast around Gorran Haven and Charlestown.

Back on site after a day’s exploring and it’s back to basics for most of us but listen up – what’s that? A faint tinkle of bells and a very quiet whistle? In 2020 Pleasant Streams Farm introduced three spacious, kitted-out bell tents. Sleeping four comfortably in proper beds with bedding, they each have an outdoor covered kitchen which has a camping stove, cool box and all the equipment you’ll need. Bell tents are in a quiet, tucked-away corner by a stream with a rope swing while campers with their own tents are spread freestyle between two meadows. Campers can choose between a flat spot in a sunny field or a lake-side pitch where you can watch dragonflies dance over the water. If this is doing very little, we like it rather a lot.

There are six pitches with electric hook up, but otherwise it’s a pitch-where-you-like policy. There are four flushing loos, three composting toilets and four hot-water showers. There’s no sink for washing up – so don’t forget a washing-up bowl. There’s a rowing boat on the lake and a sea kayak for hire to explore all the hidden coves of the Cornish coast. The three bell tents are kitted out with beds and bedding for four. They each have an outdoor, covered kitchen with a camping gas stove, cool box, cooking kit, tableware and utensils. Campfires are allowed. There is a limited number of dug fire pits (first-come, first-served) or you can bring your own off-ground fire pit or barbecue. Logs are for sale for £5 a bag.

Suitable For

Tents, campervans, caravans, groups, glampers – yes. Dogs – no.

Explore the coast by kayak (on hire from the campsite for £25 per day), or freewheel along the Pentewan Valley Trail with Pentewan Valley Cycle Hire (01726 844242). The Lost Gardens of Heligan (01726 845100) is four miles away and The Eden Project (01726 811911) is about eight miles. The fishing village of Mevagissey and historic port of Charlestown are a short drive, both well worth a visit, with shops, cafes and restaurants to explore.

Food & Drink

You can buy fresh eggs on site (if the ladies are laying) but if you don’t fancy cooking yourself, it’s a five-minute walk to Griggs Farm Restaurant which is especially good for breakfasts. It’s a 15-minute stroll to the Hewas Inn (01726 73497), which serves a traditional pub menu and a selection of good ales from St Austell Ales. The Polgooth Inn (01726 74089) – a five-minute drive away – offers a more contemporary choice, and an impressive range of cask ales. There’s a small shop in the village for supplies but for a bigger range of shops, as well as the St Austell Brewery, head for the town of the same name, five miles away.

The Owner Says

Get back to nature at Pleasant Streams Farm Camping. We offer peaceful and rustic camping in lovely rural surroundings with basic facilities and low prices.  At our small and friendly site you can experience ‘real camping’ with plenty of space, real campfires, pretty fields, shallow streams, small lakes with rowing boats and an abundance of wildlife. Our site is very relaxed; we don’t have set pitches so you can pitch your tent where you choose in our camping fields. We welcome families, groups and couples, anyone looking for a countryside retreat. Children especially love to explore our site, wading in the stream in wellies, rowing around the lake, looking for the farm animals or hunting for the hidden rope swings.  We have three luxury bell tents, Rose, The Lilly Pad, and Billy Blue, perfect for families looking for a glamping option.

We are tucked away in the countryside in mid Cornwall, a great base to explore the beautiful Cornish coast and attractions from. Our location is very quiet and peaceful, yet we are close to a village and town. The nearest beach is only a 10-minute drive and we’re at the gateway to the beautiful Roseland peninsular with more stunning beaches and pretty villages to explore.

There’s always animals to meet at our farm, on our site you can see wild geese, owls, hawks, buzzards, herons, jays, rabbits, foxes, badgers, field mice, trout in the stream. Or you can meet our friendly animals, our miniature goats Matilda, Bluebell and Rose, our pigs Rodney and Del Boy and our Chickens and Ducks. We sell the Duck and Chicken eggs for your breakfast as well as a selection of home grown plants.

Our ethos is simple and natural. Therefore we have no clubhouse or constant traffic noise and we are a real escape from everyday pressures. We offer simple shower and toilet facilities in a basic wooden hut and plenty of space to enjoy your holiday.  Unfortunately no pets are allowed. Campfires are permitted, in a limited amount of designated fire rings which are first come first served and sacks of logs are available for purchase.  Please note we do not have a designated washing up area but you are welcome to take water back to your tent, so we recommend you bring a washing up bowl.  Please note we do not have set pitches, so you book per tent/van size.  Please be honest with your tent size and any extras as difference will be charged for upon arrival.

Social Distancing Measures

Our site is already spacious, natural,  and 'pitch free' as we allow our guests to choose their own location upon arrival.  We have always had a lot of space between tents and vans but we will ask all guests to ensure they pitch at least 2 metres away from others when they choose their pitch.  We are also opening another field for guests to allow more space at busy times.  We will set up distance markers for toilet and shower queues and ask guests to queue outside and ensure they maintain social distancing whilst inside the toilet and shower blocks. We will be increasing the amount of daily deep cleans of the toilets and showers and providing cleaning products for guests if they wish to sanitise surfaces before or after they use them.

Space for 50 tent pitches across two camping fields, one with a small lake and one large, flat and sunny field without a lake. Three six-metre bell tents are available in the camping field without the lake.

A hidden gem

We found this place on the internet a bit by accident but we are so glad we did. This camp site is a peaceful little haven. Our children loved the animals espcially the ducklings and enjoyed roaming free around the site. The facilities are basic but were clean and the showers were hot so thats a bonus when camping! We loved it amd would highly reccomend, we are hoping to come back and stay in a bell tent one day soon!

Gorgeous setting for camping

It's a gorgeous site in a beautiful setting with the lakes full of wildlife. Sadly with many campers on site there is a need for better toilet facilities. The compost toilets weren't always pleasant to say the least. Just a little tlc would help.

Great location and atmosphere but poor amenities

The location is stunning, little to no road noise, just country wildlife. The ducks and their babies marching around all the tents entertaining old and young alike. The resident heron guarding the lake and his many fish hunting spots whilst basking in the sun. The evening open fire beside our tent became a highlight for our family of four, without an internet signal we actually talked, laughed and reconnected on so many levels. Roasted marshmallows helped too ! Looking across the fields at the many firepits was magical and helped to keep the flying biters away. Not a single nip for any of us even though we were pitched facing the lake. The small rowing boats, (3), are a very clever idea and our kids loved them. Their first introduction to boating in a small safe environment. The facilities, whilst described as basic are functional. They are tired, in poor repair, too few for the size of campsite and are not appealing to use. Ironically, the biggest upset is the lack of a sink to wash dishes. This seems like an easy fix. There is no doubt Tony the owner, ( and family ?), work very hard maintaining the site and kudos for their efforts but I can’t help thinking an investment in practical toilet/shower facilities would benefit everyone and make their life so much easier and pay for itself in very short order. It would certainly secure our future visits.

Simply Beautifull!

Gorgeous campsite,a beautifull spot ,facilities are all you need, basic camping suited to the more earthy rugged camper, so many ducks, birds, wildlife, ponds ,our kids loved it here stayed five nights was perfect for us and our kids, totally enjoyed immensely. Thank you so much Tony we will be back!

Back to basics bliss

Our little family spent a wonderful week getting back to basics, playing frisbee, climbing trees, roasting marshmallows, gazing at the stars, boating on the lake and enjoying the sunshine amongst ducklings, owls, butterflies and dragonflies. This place couldn’t get more blissful if you are looking for an authentic family camping experience. Hot showers and flushing toilets are basic but totally fine. What it lacks in facilities it more than makes up for in charm and it’s beautiful setting. This is a superb base from which to explore Cornwall with so many gems right on your doorstep too. We will be back!

Simple but wonderful atmosphere on the campsite that made all the difference

The facilities were ok with sometimes hot showers sometimes cold showers and there are not many facilities for the number of campers as well etc. but that's not the reason you would choose to come to this campsite. This is a wonderful place for a family friendly holiday. The lake adds to the magic of the place with kids enjoying their little bit of freedom. We have a very lively 4 year old with no sense of danger so the open water added an element of risk but we knew that before going. There was another field without the lake around it should we have wanted it. The children adored their stay watching the wildlife and there were so many lovely like-minded people on that campsite in search of the simple life and nature.

Rustic and peaceful

The reason for 5 stars is because everything lived up to our expectations. Although it states that check in time is 2pm we called at 10.30 to see if we could check in earlier and we were told we could come straight away . We chose our spot close to the dam and near enough to the toilet/shower block. Big plus was - Hot showers! No midges or mosquitos. Neighbours were considerate and friendly and kids well behaved. There is kindling and logs on site. Thoroughly enjoyed the ducks and ducklings wandering around camp and the chilled vibe. Will deffo come again.

Perfect family campsite. Beautiful bell tent

Had a wonderful week in Billy Blue bell tent. Best pitch on the site, secluded and private. Campsite is very pretty, chilled and quiet after 10pm. Little kitchen well equipped. Had all we needed - bar some more anti-squirrel devices! Bathroom facilities basic but adequate. Owners friendly and easygoing. Would love to go back.

So beautiful!

Me and my daughters had a lovely week at Pleasant Streams Farm. Beautiful surroundings with baby ducks, goats, lakes and rope swings! The compost loos were fine and the showers were great. We stayed in one of the bell tents and it was lovely. We had everything we could need for the week. We even had a welcome pack of wine, biscuits and marshmallows on our arrival! And the owners were so friendly and helpful. Also, lovely beaches and seaside towns in the area and only 30 mins drive from Newquay. Thanks for a lovely holiday!

Rustic and relaxing

Just home from a lovely 2 weeks staying here. After being a little cautious from some of the reviews, we were really delighted with our experience. Week one was a little cooler … week two the sun shine endlessly and we could have been in France. The site is indeed basic, and the facilities could do with a lick of paint and more frequent cleaning given the amount of campers… but nothing we couldn’t cope with. Kids had great fun exploring and being kids which was a joy to watch. And meant the adults could enjoy a glass of wine in the golden hour in peace! Like others have said… a little work and this place could be truly beautiful. The wood shed and storage caravan needs a good tidy up as it feels it lets the site down. And the jetty’s could do with strengthening!! I think as well, whilst pitch where you like is lovely - a few guidance rules would be very helpful to avoid arriving back from a day out to find a new tent a bit close for comfort. A few larger groups arrived too which caused a few noise issues so some gentle site management particularly in the evenings would be a bonus. All in all though a really lovely experience and for a bargain price. (FYI I had spoken to the farm prior to arriving to clarify my tent size, to avoid the nasty surprise that lots have had with being charged more. It would solve all problems to simply have the tent dimensions next to ‘small, medium and legs etc’ on the booking form to avoid confusion and a disappointing start to a holiday). May well be back. Thanks Pleasant Streams.

Lovely chilled camping experience

Thank you for our stay absolute perfect very affordable stay for a little family with lots of things to do with a short drive too them all. And the free roaming ducks and 2 lakes with boats and fish too feed. And I’ve heard people complain about the showers in previous post which I found strange cos they were more than amble for a camp site. There is absolute nothing too complain about here. When you come just pick your pitch and the owner comes too you when he gets the chance.

The Cutest Campsite!

Absolutely adored staying here for the weekend. The campsite has basic facilities but the compost loos are good for the environment and were clean. There are also hot showers. The best part of this campsite are the beautiful little lakes, and the baby ducks running around gave the weekend a total blissful feel.

What a great place to stay!!!

I loved everything about my stay. I can't really understand negative comments as the camp site is a hidden gem. We were lucky enough to pitch our tent near the lake, we watched geese and birds while drinking morning coffee. It was my first camping experience ever but I loved it. No power, no wi fi and lack of phone reception turned out to be a blessing rather then a problem. Of course there are no 5 star facilities but there is drinking water available, toilet facilities, and a shower. All in all it's a garm campsite:) We will be back of again in Cornwall

Place with big potential but need big changes too

Place with big potential but seems owners take care more of money then customers. At first everything seems OK to me, I was told to pitch where you want. When I set up my tent member of staff came to me and said you must move your tent from here, it is only for glamping ( there is no sign is for glamping and I been advised to pick where i want) So I moved by advise. Second thing I been asked to pay more for my 3 person halfords tent! Which on coolcamp booking site been classified as medium tent, but they said is large!!! Really. (to be clear my tent is 220cm to 320cm). I thought is everything for now but I was wrong! Later on lady came with a van and she claimed I took her place for the van to park up! (to be clear at this time I pitch on the place showed by owner/staff). So I spent the night with van wheel parked in my tent entry. Lovely night I glad it wasn't my only camping on this trip but it was only one with bad taste. Like I said at beginning: place with big potential but also need big changes! not bad but far from good recommendion.

Could have been so much better...

The write up sounded perfect, quiet and some sanctuary from the world for a few days...and our first night was idyllic, listening to owls and watching the bats...and then all this vanished in a screaming hoard of exuberant children whose parents relinquished all control, so that they ran wild through the site, having a great, but very loud, time until after 10pm. The ducks were banished from the lake by the yelling children who used the small boat, without lifebelt or bouyancy aids, well into the dark. The lake had no lifebelts to hand, and we all wondered what the Health and Safety issues would have been. Other adults were really concerned, shame their parents were not. Sadly, the next night was worse, and those parties who were trying to relax and have some quiet time had to get cross before the noise abated. Some management of the site was required. Open pitch-less camping sounds good, but several people left their tents to go out for the day, to find that someone had pitched a tent in their parking space beside their tent, or tents were pitched on the driveway, so they couldn't get back to their tents. Not good. Toilets were reasonable, but the composting ones ran out of compost by early afternoon, so nothing to cover the action with. Campfires were allowed, and logs normal price of £5 a bag, but again the H&S hazards in fetching these yourself from a cluttered barn were big. With a little tighter management this could have been a wonderful break, but instead we packed up a day early rather than face the noise and stress of another wild-child night. Sorry, but won't be back.

A lovely rustic campsite

Such a lovely rustic, remote campsite with lots of outdoor fun for the kids…streams, lakes, wildlife and farm animals and the added bonus of a campfire in the evening. This is our second trip to Pleasant Streams and we will be returning for another adventure.

Very chilled and relaxing!

Thanks for a great week camping in one of your electric hook up spots. Very helpful, and an all round chilled time. Easy to visit either coast with great trips to Mevagissey, Charlestown, Truro, Perranporth, St Mawes, Falmouth and body boarding on Fistral beach Newquay. The gardens of Helligan are stones throw away! A great base to explore. Thanks!

Basic at Best

Well I will start by saying the campsite is basic at best. I echo what others have said The compost toilets are hardly emptied and dirty with broken polystyrene seats . not good during a pandemic with no soap in the hand wash area outside to the showers and no where to wash up that is annoying During my stay it was a Very muddy field my car almost didn’t manage it And last note the pitches are not marked this can be annoying if someone’s selfish and spreads out Thank god I was only staying one night , this place has the potential to be a wonderful place if the facilities where a decent standard and marked pitches would be much better with some hard standing in places incase the cars trash it up The owners daughter and owner very kind and helpful people no issues there at all

Great quiet place by a lovely pond with sweet Muscovy Ducks being friendly. Loads to do nearby and it was great to be back in the evening by the tent and a lovely fire, toasting marshmallows.

Lovely, relaxed place to stay - great base for exploring

My partner and I stayed here for a week. The little lake is super cute and you can camp where you like. The site and owner is really chill, and we loved the animals. The location also has great access to public transport. A bus goes from the nearby village which takes you all over Cornwall and trains from nearby St Austell take you all over Cornwall too - we thought we’d miss out by not having a car but actually we could go everywhere we wanted and all the people with cars could never park. The nearby Griggs country shop / restaurant serves great roasts, dinners and breakfasts - sad we only found that on the last day! It’s not luxury, but for 86 pounds for two for a week we think it was great : )

Lots of potential but poor management

First time camping experience. Children enjoyed other kids presence, animals, Lake and the boat. Unfortunately the management of the site I must describe as poor. There was no one at the arrival, no one who could guide us where to go and what to do. I have done my booking on the side with the electricity access but the end of the day I've been asked to move my tent to the other side as apparently my booking did not included electricity access 😶. I couldn't prove or check it out at the time as no Internet or phone network available at all. Very limited toilet/shower facilities, not in excellent condition... In general we did have a lovely time in Cornwall as visited lots of beautiful places, lots of them fairly close to the campsite. I'm not sure if I will be returning to the campsite but definitely be back to Cornwall

Beautiful place

We went to pleasant stream last week and it was incredible. toilets and showers are clean, Ropeswings for the kids, evenings are very quiet all you can hear is fires. There was Rowing boats that you can sail in the 2 ponds and you can catch fish with nets. The place is a little bit behind as we booked online and the owner was a bit confused. Finally there is no internet at the campsite so no phones or devices. Overall a very nice campsite and i recommend paying a visit.

Beautiful setting but one set back

I will start with beautiful setting - we came with two small kids and lake with rowing boat was amazing for them. A lot of space but one major setback. We used the space opposite the lake as spaces around the lake were taken. When we came back from the beach on second day we had new ,,campers'' opposite us with huge black gazebo blocking our view of the lake. I understand there are new type of camping people but I find it a bit selfish. All we could see was the huge double black gazebo in front of us. Toilets and shower very basic but good enough. Only issue was standing water in the shower tray.

Beautiful site but poor facilities.

July 21 This is a well tendered site in a beautiful location and very well situated to explore this part of Cornwall. The land is flat and campfires are encouraged There are no marked out pitches so the top field by the entrance was much busier than the lower. The ducks, geese and chickens roam free and the lakes are very pretty. Unfortunately this site is let down by the amenities. The two showers in the lower field provide hot, good pressured water but they are dirty with one rusty hook and no shelves. The compost toilets are not pleasent. They were only emptied once a day so buy early evening they were full. Each toilet has an old and broken polystyrene seat and cover and most times no loo roll. There is a small sink outside with no soap or sanitizer. This whole unit needs refurbishment. The upper toilets had 4 flushing loos with similar showers but were in constant demand and always dirty. In-between the 2 sets of toilets is a "summer house" Empty leaflet holder and no information on the local area or nearby services. There are no dishwasher facilities on the site which is poor especially as there is hot water in both areas. There are no fire points on the site that I could see but at least 3 water stand pipes. We stayed during storm Evert. Not once did the owner come around to check if everyone was prepared or even aware of the impending 70mph winds. Neither did he come around the following day checking on everyone's welfare. Seeing what other site owners did (via the local news) to their guests to ensure their safety was a little poor from Pleasent Stream. Overall as I said, we'll presented site let down by the amenities. Oh, and like most others mention, we had to pay extra for the size of our tents.. Okay site for the money but probably won't re-visit unless the toilets/ showers get an overhaul. Plenty of other sites in the immediate area.

Beautiful peaceful site

We had a lovely 5 night stay here. We loved the lake with the rowing boat and the array of wildlife around the site - Canada geese, moor hens, friendly ducks and ducklings, plus a rooster to wake you in the morning! It was all very basic and loos and showers felt like they needed a bit of love but we had a great visit.

very relaxing place

the owner tony is a lovely man, his camping site is very calm and peaceful, lots of space to play games with the kids and they enjoyed looking at the chickens. We had our own tent but when looking around the site we came across the bell tents which looked magical in their own private setting.I would loved to haved stayed in one of them.Showers are very clean with good hot water.I would highly recommend pleasant streams.

Beautiful setting, basic facilities

We had a really lovely five night stay at the farm. The setting is so beautiful, camping in a spot of our choice (no set pitches) at the side of a large wildlife pond with water lilies and Canada geese. A small rowboat and life jackets allowed children and adults to row on the water. Lots of trees and wildlife, calm and peaceful with starlit nights and fires welcomed. The only drawback was the toilet and shower block - we are quite happy with basic facilities, but there were just not enough of them, especially when a bit busier at the weekend, only two women’s toilets and one shower in the large field for non-electric, non-glamping camping. We were told we could also use the two unisex compost toilets and two showers in the glamping field, but even then, not nearly enough capacity. Maybe now that lockdowns and restrictions are hopefully over, Tony will be able to update the facilities, because otherwise Pleasant Streams is a really beautiful site, and we hope to visit again.

Campsite has potential but toilets/showers need cleaning

The campsite is pretty and has potential but the toilet/shower block let it down. Couldn’t make up my mind whether the toilets/showers were basic or dirty and decided both. Basic was acceptable as we wanted simple camping but we weren’t comfortable with dirty. The toilet rolls were damp (some had mould spots) and there were endless toilet roll inserts left lying around showing the facilities weren’t cleaned regularly. In addition, the floors were constantly dirty. The shower also wasn’t clean and felt the need to wear shoes whilst showering. Upon entrance to the campsite the rubbish was piling up, bins over flowing and this is before peak season. We left after two days and moved to a cleaner campsite - pity as this campsite could be fab!

Pleasant indeed!

Enjoyed a 6 night stay with the family where we pitched around the tent. Plenty of space for kids to play and explore and never had to queue once for showers/toilet. Hint for any newcomers...when you first arrive just find a suitable place to pitch and go for it....not sure there is allocated pitches.

Really lovely site

Me and my boyfriend really enjoyed our stay at pleasant streams. The setting was beautiful and the owner was really friendly. The facilities are very clean but basic, but as we had expected this based on the descriptions and reviews we were very happy!

My partner an I have had a fantastic three nite stay at Pleasant Stream Farm the owner is so helpful an yes basic camping but that is why it is so peaceful an relaxing thank you we will be returning 😊 The clamping area is very nice an set up really well

Amazing, peaceful clean camping site

Loved every moment of our weekend trip. Have to say the owners are very helpful and friendly. The facilities are clean and wel maintained. The fact you can choose your own area to camp is very care and stress free. People are respectful of quiet times and space. We liked it so much we are already arranging another trip back here. Thank you for making our first ever camping trip into great memories

What a tranquil and beautiful place. We had a wonderful 5 days in Lilypad, waking up to the sounds of birds and views of the lake. Our delightful hosts made us feel very welcome, we'll definitely be back and have already recommended it to friends. Thanks so much. Susy and Tricia

What a beautiful place! Everything you need for a truly relaxing break. Clean toilets and showers are a bonus! Would definitely recommend if you're looking for a back to basics camping experience, beautiful surroundings with the birds and the lakes. Also loved the fact that you can build your own fires 🔥 Certainly planning another visit soon 😊

Old fashioned fun for all.

Thank you to Tony, what a lovely little back to basics campsite. Children and adults alike loved spending five nights here during may half term. We loved it and will be back another time. Thank you.

Pause and enjoy

Beautiful place with relaxed atmosphere. We had few amazing nights by the pond - wildlife entertainment was much enjoyed. Highly recommended if you are after simple pleasures of life and calm getaway. We all loved it and will be coming back. Thank you to the hosts for sharing their little peace of paradise.

Perfect bank holiday weekend

Great camping spot with a friendly and laid-back host. Most pitches are lake adjacent with a sweet family of geese and goslings that roam between tents. Facilities are simple but clean. We would stay again if visiting the area!

Lovely little gem tucked away in Cornish countryside

We had a great little getaway weekend in Cornwall and stayed at this beautiful campsite. All was great apart from the missing facilities for washing dishes.

Lovely campsite, with attentive owners and evenings by a campfire.

We arrived just after heavy rain to get stuck in muddy car tracks in an old VW campervan, for the next 24hrs we needed many a push from friendly follow campers and the first thing I'd say is this campsite really attracts the best sort which is a testament to the location and style of site offered (a little element of hippy chic). That initial mud aside (which still makes me smile and was definitely part of the adventure) the campsite was excellent and we really felt looked after by the family owners. In the 3 nights we stayed they did not stop adding gravel and hay to sort the muddy car tracks after very unusual weather on the first night, or checking in on us and everyone else. Great location, a constant trail of ducks and people rowing on the lake to watch, good facilities and owners that really seem to love what they do.

Response from Pleasant Streams Farm Camping

Dear Charles,  Thank you so much for your lovely review.  Especially after you had to endure the mud after the terrible storm.  We had so much rain, of the type we'd never seen before - Cornwall is normally more of a mizzle kind of place!  This unfortunately coincided with our busiest weekend of the year which churned up the tracks and and were were devastated when some guests were getting stuck - it hasn't' ever happened before in the previous 10 years on our site. We did everything we could to sort it out - all hands on deck shovelling gravel and sore backs from what I remember and luckily it dried out after a day or two.  So thank you for your kind words, it means a lot.  We hope to see you at our site again with hopefully more sunshine.  Best, Jo.

Beautiful secluded spot with great local pub.

Fantastic quiet site with pleanty of space, walking distance to great pub serving Gluten free meals, and Londis for all essentials. Ducks, chickens and their young, plus goats and a pot bellied pig to see. Only a few electric hook ups available but the owners had long extension cables making it easy to camp further from the points. Free hot running water in showers, thoigh not numerous were adequate. This is a beautiful place with space to just walk around the site. Very close to national cycle ways. We were able to cycle to both heligan gardens, mevagissey and pentwan sands. Much more space and peace and quiet compared to some of the higher star sites, where fires are NOT allowed. Would definitely camp here again if coming ro the area..

Response from Pleasant Streams Farm Camping

Thank you for your lovely review Graham, so glad you enjoyed your stay.  We hope to see you again soon.

Fantastic escape from it all

An absolutely wonderful escape from the pressure of life. That facilities as described on the website are basic but what is provided was cleaned regularly with cleaning products acailable for you to clean if you felt the need to. The site was beautiful. We loved the free reign of the chickens and duck wondering past our pitch everyday. The grounds were flat and safe for our young children to play safely and ride their bikes. Thoroughly enjoyed it and actually asked to stay another 2nights. Wonderful farm and will go back again in the future.

Response from Pleasant Streams Farm Camping

Thank you for your lovely review Kate.  We're so glad you enjoyed your stay.  The facilities are cleaned regularly throughout the day but we left extra cleaning products in case guests want to disinfect surfaces before and after each use due to Covid.  We hope to see you and your children again soon.

Cosy rustic

We arrived just after a burst of heavy rain, as expected the field was churned up from cars/vans. Despite this the owners were great at making it safe/easier for us to drive across the mud. The facilities are basic but clean. Showers and toilets are great, which are frequently cleaned. Camp fires are encouraged, making it a cosy atmosphere in the field. You get you pick your own spots for the tent and there was plenty of space (despite being bank holiday weekend). The campsite is close to a local shop and pub, also a short drive or cycle to the closest beach. Would recommend this site to anyone who loves the wilder side of camping. Will definitely visit again.

Response from Pleasant Streams Farm Camping

Thank you so much for your lovely review Eleanor.  We're so glad you enjoyed your stay at our back to nature style campsite.  I'm sorry you had to endure the mud after the terrible storm we had with huge rain downpours.   This unfortunately coincided with our busiest weekend of the year which churned up the tracks.  We did everything we could to sort it out putting down gravel and bark chipping on the tracks and luckily it dried out quickly.  So thank you for your kind words, it means a lot.  We hope to see you at our site again with hopefully more sunshine.  Best, Jo.

Loads of potential but not quite there

The setting of this site is lovely and the streams and ponds make it really pretty. The kids loved taking the little boat out on the lake and having plenty of freedom to run around and we enjoyed having a camp fire every night. However the toilets and showers are definitely basic and I felt not cleaned enough especially considering Covid. There are also no extras - no washing up facility or shared fridge or anything similar. Also no WiFi (or reception) as far as we could tell which, with teenagers, can be both a blessing and a curse! As others have said, the booking system is vague and there was a suggestion initially that we hadn’t paid enough, though unlike others, once we showed we’d booked and paid for an extra large pitch there was no further argument.

Response from Pleasant Streams Farm Camping

Dear Kate, thank you for your feedback.  We're glad you found our site pretty and enjoyed the freedom to roam but were saddened to read some of your other comments.  We are a basic and back to nature site and do advertise ourselves as such.  We do not have a clubhouse or WiFi and the reception is our family home and open to guests from 9am to 7pm - we do make this all as clear as possible on our website etc and most of our guest love the natural feel of our site and a 'real camping' experience but we get it's not for everyone - the teens in our family would also demand WiFi!  We do clean our facilities at least daily and up to three times a day at peak times, with extra cleanings put in place due to Covid and extra cleaning products provided for guests to disinfect surfaces before and after use if they wish.  Our site is 'free pitch' - we do not have set pitches and instead guests are free to choose their own space and instead we charge by the tent size and any extras to work our how much space is used.  This mostly works very well and guests love the open feel of our site, free from fences and signs but it does mean we need to check to ensure people have booked and paid for the correct size tent.  We never intend to argue with any guests so I'm sorry if you felt that way.  We hope you'll visit us again.  Kind regards, Jo.

First time I’ve not wanted to return to a site

The campsite has a lot going for it, great for kids to explore and have some independence and is in a great location for exploring Cornwall’s beautiful coast. However, I booked this campsite because it was on Cool Camping’s list of “Campsites with social distancing measures” something that was important to me, but this was not our experience at all. The focus was on how to squeeze more people in than it was on social distancing. When we arrived the campsite was packed, we struggled to find a pitch and there is no check in process or clear place to go and find someone. Once we did find a spot to squeeze into we were asked to move closer to the tent next to us. There wasn’t space for a car to fit between. The very limited interaction wasn’t a warm, friendly welcome you experience at other sites. Under normal circumstances I would say the “pitches” were too close together and there are not enough toilet facilities for the size of site (which are also very compact) so with supposed social distancing measures in place it was far too overcrowded. I would ask Cool Camping remove this site from their list of ones with social distancing in place, it’s misleading.

Response from Pleasant Streams Farm Camping

Dear Isobelle, thank you for coming to stay with us and for your feedback.  I'm glad your kids enjoyed exploring our site but I'm sorry you were not happy with your trip and saddened to hear your comments on our social distancing measures.  I can assure you we take the Covid-19 guidelines and social distancing measures very seriously.  We spent a lot of time, effort and money putting in place the measures - printing and putting up signs reminding people to maintain social distancing, asking all guests to pitch 2 metres apart, hiring extra staff for extra cleaning of the facilities, providing hand sanitiser stations, and extra disinfectants and cleaning equipment for guests to wipe down surfaces after each use.  We did find most guests to be very understanding and to respect these guidelines.    Our campsite is a back to nature style 'free pitch' site, we do not have set pitches and instead guests are free to choose their own location.  This helps keep the more natural feel of the site free from fences and barriers but at busy times we do sometime have to help direct where guests pitch to ensure they do not block access or take up more than one pitch space.  I think perhaps you visited us at our busiest time which coincided with some storms and heavy rain making some parts of the site too wet to pitch but we did check that all guests were pitching  2m apart.  Most guests park their car next to their tent and between the next tent but not all - some may be a household group pitching together.  Our reception is our family home and is open 9am-7pm for enquiries or we come and greet all new guests each night in the camping fields.  This check in process is explained on the noticeboard at the entrance to our site but apologies if this was not clear.  Kind regards,  Jo.

Very enjoyable stay in rustic farm campsite

We had a very relaxing stay with plenty of space. Great atmosphere and relaxed approach to pitch space. Toilet and shower facilities are basic but good value. Lots to see and explore in the campsite. Would stay here again.

Response from Pleasant Streams Farm Camping

Dear Eunice, thank you for your kind words.  We're so glad you liked our basic but beautiful site.  We hope to see you again. Regards, Jo.

The kids loved roaming free and having adventures, this was most certainly the positive of this site. Dirty toilets - cleaned once a day and because of the lack of facilities they were heavily used. The flush toilet block was also tiny, so almost impossible to keep any sort of distance. Someone was sick in the toilet whilst we were there and it wasn’t cleaned for several hours. Quite worrying with the current Covid situation. Spray bleach left next to the sink so you could clean it yourself. No set pitches, so if you arrive when it’s busy it can be tough to find a suitable spot. We pitched up and a few hours later the owner of the site came to ‘welcome us’. I have to say this man was so incredibly rude; we told him we’d already paid, but we were told that he’d decide if we’d paid enough. Surprise, surprise he said we owed him money! We were welcome to leave if we didn’t pay, so he got his extra cash. We then watched him demand additional money from a number of other campers. Beware of this scam. No clear guidance when booking so when you arrive you’ll probably be told your tent is too big, or your awning, or your gazebo, or all of the above! We enjoyed our stay because the children were happy (until they had to use the ‘stinky’ toilets!). Would we stay again, no. There are plenty of better sites out there, with friendly owners and cleaner facilities. I also don’t like feeling ripped off.

Campsite has great potential but a little disorganised

This campsite is lovely and rustic and is perfectly positioned to explore Cornwall. The facilities are basic but showers are hot and they are cleaned regularly. This is a perfect campsite if you're travelling as a large group with lots of young children. The electric hook ups are in the least picturesque corner or the campsite, are very closely packed together with no marked pitches. Turn up late and you risk not getting electric even if you have paid for it. The owners are lovely but really have no system for allocating pitches. The size guide for tents is vague so that whatever you book, they will charge you more when you arrive. Bring cash for this!

Response from Pleasant Streams Farm Camping

Dear Lesley, thank you for your feedback.  We're glad you found our site lovely and good for young children but were saddened to read some of your other comments.   We do have a limited number of electric hook ups in a small area of the site which we do recommend booking in advance.  However if you bring long leads you can pitch further away from this area and still 'hook up'.  I'm sorry if there was confusion about your booking, if we were overbooked on electric then I apologise for this.  I can't remember this incident but if you paid for electric and didn't receive it then we would of course refund you for this.

Our site is 'free pitch' - we do not have set pitches and instead guests are free to choose their own space and instead we charge by the tent size and any extras to work out how much space is used.  This mostly works very well and guests love the open feel of our site, free from fences and signs and the freedom to pitch in groups but it does mean we need to check to ensure people have booked and paid for the correct size tent and charge for or refund any differences.  We do not stipulate exact tent measurements as we've found tents come in all shapes and sizes but we do it as fairly as possible by how much space is used for small, medium, large and extra large tents.  We understand this can be fairly subjective but the vast majority of guests get the correct size - we say that if in doubt just book what you think your tent size is we will refund you if you've booked too big a pitch but we do have to charge if you've booked too small a pitch. As a small business I hope you understand that we need to charge the correct amounts.   Kind regards, Jo.

What a lovely campsite..

We had such a lovely stay at Pleasant Streams. What’s not to love?! A family friendly, relaxing, rustic, well run site with spacious fields to pitch in and clean facilities. There were lots of hidden play areas for the kids to explore - from the tree house to the rope swing, streams, lakes, woods and the farm animals. It was a bonus to have a campfire for toasting marshmallows and keeping cosy in the evening. The site location is ideal for exploring the many beaches and towns in the area. We will definitely be returning in the future for another ‘back to nature’ camping adventure.

Rural camping in a beautiful location

Fantastic location for a quiet camping experience. The site was well maintained and clean. Friendly staff who were happy to provide information about the area on arrival. Plenty to explore on site with pathways to tree houses and lakes. The site provided fire wood and fire pits allowing us to live the camping dream.

Kids paradise

A fab site for children to roam and explore whilst parents can relax and enjoy, knowing the little ones are safe and happy. The boating lake and goldfish fishing was adored by all. Thank you Mr farmer for taking time to introduce the animals, leading the goats home was a memorable moment. Our pitch was lake side with a fire pit which made for some fantastic marshmallow and wine time. The toilets are ramshackle but clean, all food prep and cleaning must be done at your pitch so do take a washing up bowl etc. Do take care when booking, any tent 6 man+ is classed as XL. Our family ranged from 3-9 and adults, all of us loved the freedom offered by site. Many friends were made and kids played in the trees and ran bare foot through the fields. We will be returning.

What a treat!

I absolutely loved my time here- so much that I extended my stay! The bathroom facilities are clean and showers were HOT (had some composting loos for a new experience). I was just in a small tent, but had lovely neighbours and the laid back environment was just what I needed! Some handy local maps available to complement the owners great advice. Easy to walk into the local town, but also a great base to venture further afield if you are exploring Cornwall!

Peaceful week away

The campsite was spacious and peaceful and the lakes made it extra special. We really enjoyed our stay here and would go back in a heartbeat. My only request would be to add a bit of clarity around the fire situation. Fire pits are limited so we ended up having to buy our own - not a problem so much but would have been good to know beforehand.

Quiet and relaxed campsite.

Kids loved cycling around the site and using the boat.

Magical place

A beautiful and quiet place worth recommending for everyone. Magical evenings by the fire. The place is very safe and suitable for children. I would only suggest preparing a place where it would be easy and pleasant to wash the dishes. Kind regards, Andy

Relaxing back to nature site

The campsite is really peaceful and although busy, didn't feel so. Brilliant location as close to beaches and attractions. Lovely welcoming pub with tasty meals at Sticker called the Hewas Inn. The campsite owner Tony was friendly but there was some confusion over our tent size and we had to pay extra, which was fine. A guide to what small, medium, large, x large represents in metres on the website would be handy. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of life this is the place to do it.

Lovely site, prices are NOT accurate!

Lovely site very basic so just what we wanted, toilets and showers are fine. Nice hidden little walks with lovely boats on the ponds that are free to use whenever so we really loved that. Owners are very friendly and helpful. Downside! We booked through cool camping and paid for 6nights electric pitch (you choose your own) £140 read and checked everything twice, when we arrived then told we hadn’t paid enough as they had charged us for none electric even though the booking clearly said electric we where still told to pay more. They have no accurate size guid for tents they are made up as they go along. What we would class as a large tent as we have seen much bigger they decided was extra large so also had to pay extra for that. There sizing is just small-ex large not in measurements so keep and eye out for all this. In total it came to £220 for the week although still very cheap it’s not the price we booked it at £140. Personally This has put us of using this camp site again they need to get more organised with their bookings and be more clear on details.

Loved it

Lovely campsite. Kids loved it, adults loved it. Definitely go back again

Beautiful and peaceful scenery

Pleasant streams campsite is well situated for lazy days and watching the world go by. A beautiful little lake with its own boat and home to the geese makes for a scenic view and free entertainment for the children. Staff were very accomodating and priority to make sure everyone enjoyed their stay. The only down side being that the showers were not the lost powerful but however a small price to pay for the views and quietness of this site. In this current situation we find ourselves all in it was handled perfectly, everyone being socially respectful.

Lovely little campsite

A great campsite in a wonderful location.

Relaxing and peaceful

Absolutely brilliant site! So peaceful and quiet on the site you would sometimes forget you had others camping there! You even get visits from the ducks who live on the ponds on the site. There is a small local pub about 5-10min walk away from the site along with a small Londi's. Asdas is also about a 10min drive from the site ans Torquay an hour drive should you need camping essentials.

Relaxed and beautiful campsite

We wanted somewhere a bit more wild and off the beaten track, which this certainly is! The campsite is really spacious with plenty of different options for your pitch- no set pitches which actually works really well and makes it feel more like camping in the wild! There were lots of trees and lakes and streams, a whole wilderness for kids to roam and play. And plenty of campfires! Two camping fields and two sets of loos/showers meant it never felt overly busy, and everything was kept nice and clean. I can’t really find anything negative to say about it! If you want somewhere a bit more wild, to let your kids loose and feel ‘back to nature’ then this is perfect. If you want somewhere with all the mod cons and everything neat and tidy then this might not be for you. Oh and there was almost no phone reception at the site which was great :) Perfect ‘away from it all’ retreat.

Beautiful, chilled, secluded campsite

What a lovely campsite this is! When we arrived, we pitched up near the pond/stream in a quiet spot, even though there aren’t designated pitches, everyone was well spread out with plenty of space. The owner walked around and greeted the new arrivals later in the day, making sure we all had everything we needed and was ok, a very friendly and personable touch! The facilities are great (toilets and shower cubicle) which undergo a daily deep clean due to Covid-19. There are animals on the farm including horses and pigs, which you can see on the way in and out. We loved our own personal fire/BBQ pit, which are dotted around the site for people to use near their tents. We bought a bag of wood for £5 (be sure to take some cash) to use on the fire each night. There’s also phone charging for 50p and you can buy fresh eggs too. A short drive/walk to the local village of Sticker, and a bit further on to St Austell. About a 20 minute drive to the nearest seaside town of Mevagissey. We’ll definitely recommend this campsite, and stay there again!

Best campsite ever stayed in! Idyllic!

To be fair, I don't have much camping experience as an adult (except at festivals - which doesn't count) but to me, this place was heaven. It felt intimate, yet there are two fields, both with small 'lakes' (or largeish ponds) where you can pitch your tent around it and spend lazy days/nights gazing at the water and all the plants & tress whilst you build a fire in your pit. There are a limited number of showers which I suppose is one of the downsides but if you went for a shower in the afternoon then it was always free (top tip!). One of the other camping groups decided to have a bit of a party whilst there, which was a minor nuisance - but it didn't stop us enjoying our stay. Perhaps the owners could exercise a no 'loud music' policy which would keep the larger younger groups away. Whilst there we visited Lost Gardens of Helligan which is a must do if you love nature - there are lots of fun things for the kids, amazing scenery for the adults, plus a well stocked farm shop. We came for 3 days and wished we'd stayed for more!

Amazing family campsite!

What an amazing place! Had a great few days here, perfect for families! So much for the kids to see and do! Paddling in the streams, boating on the lake, launching themselves off rope swings and feeding the animals! Such a lovely place and loads of space for the kids to go feral!

Lovely quiet site

Very peaceful site. Helpful owners. Good location. Great to find a site that does not allow dogs - an added bonus

Great basic campsite

I loved this place. We stayed for 3 nights. The first night was a bit busy and noisy, but I was staying up with friends, a fire and some cider so I didn't mind. After that it quietened down. This place might not be everyones cup of tea - it is quite basic - but it suited me just fine. Location is awesome too, some wonderful bits of coastline nearby. The kids loved it and spent every minute on or next to the lake.

Best campsite I’ve stayed in for a while !

The owner was very friendly and welcoming. A lovely atmosphere on site. Loads of animals to see and several lakes, makes for a great time away with the family. There are also fire pits and easy access to water. Great location with several nice beaches and towns nearby. Would definitely come back.

Beautiful, welcoming and spacious

Beautiful surroundings and a lovely morning spent on Porthpean beach. As we arrived at the coast early hours of the morning we watched the sun come up and then drove off in search of other lovely views. Would recommend The lost gardens of Heligan for a walk around. Very tired after a night of driving we made a call to the campsite and asked whether at all possible to book in early and were told that "of course" we could. After setting up we went for a walk around the beautiful and very spacious campsite and were greeted (from a safe distance) and told all about the facilities and welcomed to wander wherever. All other guests were very respectful of the rules about hygiene and space also. Everything was pristine and we were told about the cleaning schedule and products available for self sanitising also. Will be returning again in the future!

Beautiful, peaceful campsite in a great location

We've just spent a wonderfully peaceful week here, it's just as beautiful as the photos suggest and great value for money. No sign of the mini goats and pigs but maybe they were hiding!

Wonderful campsite

We spent a lovely week at Pleasant Streams Farm Camping with our children. It’s a great campsite, with very friendly and helpful owners. Highly recommendable!!

A great week

What a gem of a campsite Tony & Lesley are so sound When we arrived we had few problems - car had run out of petrol and we couldn't blow our airbeds up cause i didn't want to run the battery flat - Tony brought his car over and we blew the beds up and then he brought us a gallon of petrol on the Sunday morning Lesley helped us out with some really good beach recommendations and made our youngest feel so welcome The site has no Wifi which to some is awful, but in reality it a godsend to parents of teens...a welcome break from screen addiction !! It means we all re learn how to communicate better !! A really good weeks holiday for all 4 of us Highly recommended and a definite return on next Cornish adventure x

A fantastic site for free range kids

We spent a wonderful three nights at Pleasant Streams campsite - there is loads of space and the area feels quite wild, with lots of trees, hedges and meadow. The lake and boat were "epic" according to my 9 year old. The site was quiet and relaxed and we felt very comfortable letting the kids roam free in the fields and use the boats on the lakes as they wished. The facilities are basic but very clean, and there was plenty of hot water.

the gorgeous surroundings and the freedom for kids to explore

This is a wonderful site. The kids were free to roam and explore, finding hidden rope swings and gathering kindling. The hosts are very relaxed and friendly - it was lovely being able to it around a campfire at night-time and have friends come to visit us on site with no fuss at all. It is a very peaceful site and it was not overcrowded at all. The only downside was the toilet/ shower facilities. There are a couple of new showers that have been built along with compost toilets (but I confess I was not brave enough to try these) and that left only one loo on site in a very old loo block. I felt it was expensive considering the lack and state of these facilities. The only other slight disappointment was the fact that electric pitches were limited to one corner of one field, meaning these pitches were much closer together than non electric pitches and there was not much choice where to pitch unless you brought several cables. That said, we had a fantastic break here and would definitely recommend and return.

Beautiful, spacious and fun with boats!

We had such a lovely time. Yes you need to negotiate the goose poo, but to get visits from geese, and see them wandering about with their young is brilliant (we went in May). For the children there are animals to visit, a fort in woods to find and play in, several rope swings, and the boat on the lake to potter about with. We loved it, close to some cool places too. Our favourite place was Charlestown - we went there twice hoping to catch a glimpse of Poldark!

Response from Pleasant Streams Farm Camping

Thank you for your review, we're so glad you loved our site and had a great holiday.  The Geese are lovely, they came as a couple a few years back and have returned every year as a growing family.  We love them but they do leave some droppings, good for the grass but not so nice underfoot. To help with this we're leaving some brooms for campers to sweep up outside if they wish and people can camp in the other field with no geese.  The geese normally leave before the school summer holidays.

Very picturesque but...

The pleasant streams is a nice place to camp. Beautifully rustic with very nice ponds with fish. Very picturesque but.......... Too many camping pits one next to the other! The campsite is veeeerryyyyy large but 75% was left empty! Why?? 1 showerblock with 2 toilets for gents and 1 showerblock with 2 toilet for ladies. Very old and dirty with broken doors No rules, no gates closed after 22. Many cars driven at night Shame because campsite is veeryyyy beautiful

Response from Pleasant Streams Farm Camping

Thank you for your review and feedback.  Just to let you know we have built a new additional compost toilet and shower block for 2019 so we now have 4 showers and 6 toilets in total.  Our site is large and we try to keep it relaxed with no set pitches and no locked gates (but we do ask campers to keep the noise down after 10pm).  So I'm a bit confused why you say there were too many camping pits as we do not have set pitches and camper can choose a quieter/spacious spot if they wish.

Beware of the geese!

This is a charming wee site tucked away in a village near St Austell and is well placed for beaches, Eden Project etc. The facilities are basic (I wish they would add a sink for washing up!) but functional with lots of hot water.. The centre piece of the camping field is a small pond which children (and adults) can spend hours paddling around in a small boat. Unfotunately in the late spring it also attracts a small gaggle of Canadian geese who spend a month or two in May and June rearing their goslings. The great advantage of this is too see these creatures up close, with their very cute youngsters. The disadvantage is that they can be boisterous neighbours and do a lot of geese poo all over the field! Check your shoes regularly!

This was our second visit here and still absolutely in love with this campsite. It's simple but perfect. The owners are friendly and helpful and the facilities are perfect too. Definitely becoming an annual stay now for sure.

No ‘glam’ here!

The pleasant streams is indeed a nice place to camp, with the pounds and the streams but one cannot give it a ‘glamping’ Status. The site is crowded. Too many camping pits one next to the other. Combined with the fact that there is only 1 showerblock with 4 toilets and 4 showers ( for over 200 visitors ).... it is not glamour. Tony does the best he can to give the guests a pleasant stay but the deteriorating state of the campsites shows that one man is just not up to this. I would name this place “a pleasant camping site” and adjust value to money. That would be more fair to the visitors.

Amazing Campsite!

Just stayed here with my partner for 3 nights to get away from everything and that's just what we got! Beautiful campsite run by the loveliest couple, toilets and showers available, yes one per gender but they're clean, well maintained and beautifully rustic. The site itself is stunning and most of all no wifi or 3G - no distractions!! The area we stayed in had a beautiful pond in the middle, complete with small boat which you can just jump into and row around in. The wildlife in the area is amazing and we were lucky enough to share the field with a family of geese who potter around and we even woke up one morning, opened the tent and they were right there... just so magical. Plenty of space and lots of campfire spots which we used every night. Definitely recommend this site, and already looking at going to stay there again ourselves! Thank you Pleasant Streams Farm!

Facilities let down a potentially wonderful site.

I completely agree with CATmurphy's review and had signed up to this site with the intention of leaving similar comments! The campsite is charming and secluded with a relaxed atmosphere compared to regimented pitches so that is a big plus. I agree with the other reviews about the benefits of peaceful, rustic camping with the joy of open fires, however the toilet facilities were the worst I have ever experienced. The ladies smelt of stale urine and were far from clean. Previous favourable reviews are at least a year old so perhaps they were of sanitary condition back then. 50 pitches need more toilets and showers. The lack of washing-up facilities is also bizarre with campers being expected to throw dirty water in the bushes to then smell in the sun and attract flies. We have teenage children who would refuse to return to the site based on the toilets. Even my son who has done extensive basic camping with scouts, army cadets and D of E would expect more luxurious facilities to relax on holiday rather than feel like it's a survival mission!

Relaxing rural idyll in need of a decent shower block

I really want to love this place but there are certain criteria a campsite must fulfill. It has an idyllic setting and is a super base for exploring the South Cornwall coast, beaches, gardens (Trebah, Eden Project, Helligon etc), for cycling, Charlestown, sea fishing from Mevagissey and so much more. The lake and the wee boat provide a great focus and hours of entertainment for the kids and adults alike, the surroundings are very relaxing and peaceful and it is great to be able to have a camp fire. I am used to rustic camping and don't mind simple, basic facilities but they need to be clean, easily accessible, provide plenty of hot water and the price needs to reflect the facilities on offer, I felt this was a little expensive for the facilities on offer and we were rather paying for the idylllic setting and location. The filthy flooring in the ladies' shower area was precarious and unsettling due to several loose floorboards, which gave way under foot. During our 3-night stay the facilities did not seem to be cleaned properly, the tiny bin was regularly overflowing, there was often no toilet paper and the shower's water flow stopped unexpectedly - I don't think the boiler could cope. Each shower block, ie gents' and ladies' contains 1 shower, 2 toilets and 2 sinks, respectively. I think there are approx. 35 pitches, so a 2nd shower for each gender would help. Washing-up facilities would also help greatly. The owners are building another toilet block at the entrance to the second field which might be ready for next year, but they also need to refurbish the existing one at the entrance to the first field, it is so awful. Would I go again? Possibly but I hope they sort out the facilities.

Simple, beautiful site

We stayed for a week at the site at the beginning of August.  The site was very quiet when we arrived and we pitched near the pond in the main field (there are a number of different fields to pitch in).  We had a fire pit and were near to the toilets and showers.  We loved how peaceful the site was and the kids loved running around, taking the boat out on the pond, seeing the animals and exploring all the different fields.  The camping fields are lovely with and we loved watching the bats swoop around in the evening.  The toilet and shower facilities are basic but adequate, they did get busy when the site filled up (there is only one block with 4 toilets and 2 showers) but it just meant a small wait at busy times.  The site is close to some lovely attractions including the Eden Project, The Lost Gardens of Heligan, Porthpean beach and Pentewan Sands.  We loved our stay and would definitely visit again.

Best place in Corwall

I will be back soon. Was there in 2013 two times. Lovely place. Enjoyed every single minute...

Excellent camping

We stayed at Pleasant Streams for two weeks in July/August of 2014 and it was the finest camping experience we have ever had.  We were worried about camping with two toddlers but the owners were fantastic and helped us find a great spot in a quiet field which stopped us worrying about the noise they create first thing. They also helped us find some of my son's toy trains he had lost and were always on hand for help and advice on the local area.  The site was refreshingly free of rules and regulations and being able to have a camp fire every night in a location free of traffic noise made for a magical atmosphere.  The kids loved seeing the pigs, ducks and geese and running around the site which has so many interesting bits to explore.  We'd never been to this part of Cornwall before but were amazed by the quality of the beaches and the sheer variety of potential day trip locations.  You're never stuck for days out but on a campsite like this it's also great to just take it easy in the surroundings and get back to the simple things.  We were glad we couldn't get phone reception as we switched them off for two weeks, disengaged from work fully for the first time in years and had a holiday we'll never forget.  While I've seen the facilities described as basic, we found them perfectly adequate even with two toddlers and never had to queue too long for the showers.  Can't wait for a return visit next summer!

Very disappointing

Stayed here for 2 nights with family in August 2014.  The facilities are very basic and there simply aren't enough of them. One shower for men and one for women. The small toilet block is in bad need of investment.  Nowhere to wash up your crockery, pots and pans. Best avoided.

Poor Facilities

We visited this campsite recently and feel moved enough to write a short review. Overall this campsite does not warrant the 5 star rating depicted on Cool Camping. The facilities were at best poor; one shower and a couple of toilets each for M/F. These were dirty and flooded constantly even when it was sunny and dry. There was one outside cold tap for washing dishes. Tony was friendly but apart from that, the other staff were not friendly nor welcoming and seemed more interested in driving around collecting the Tariff (at times asking even when it was not due) than taking any genuine interest in the people using the site for their holiday. We will not be back.

lovely jubley!

Lovely camp site, simplicity all round, very natural site without marked out pitches or any of that nonsense! Very very peaceful with lots of wildlife. Lots to explore on site with two lakes and a plenty of fun to be had in the rowing boat. Extremely friendly and helpful owners, but pleasantly hands off, just there if your looking for them. Would definitely visit again! If your don't like tacky walls ice cream signs and wardens patrolling the pitches then you'll love this site...if you do like those things that your probably beyond help anyway...highly recommend if you like natural relaxed sites!

This is a beautiful campsite. A lot of effort has been spent on making ponds and planting trees for wildlife. We stayed in May and watched a dabchick swimming near her nest. There are rope swings, streams and hidden paths to explore and lots of space for everyone.

camping as it should be

I have been to this site twice in the last year, its so laid back its great. The kids loved it, animals to feed and rope swings out over the stream... superb. At night you can have a open fire to toast marshmallows on, while sipping hot chocolate or sit back and watch the bats flying over the lakes. The site has hot and cold water, toilets and showers and NO club house or bar, but you don't need a club house or bar. Just fill the ice box with beer and a fruit based drink for the ladies and sit back and relax.

Really, really pleasant

Stayed for four nights in August 2013. Was exactly as described. Really chilled, pleasant campsite. No set pitches meant that everyone enjoyed plenty of space, all round a little lake with a rowing boat. At night we enjoyed the stars, the campfires, and the quiet. The owners couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful, directed us to a couple of wonderful little beaches not far from the site. Hewas Inn is well worth a visit, decent food and a friendly welcome 5-10 minutes down the footpath directly opposite the campsite entrance. All-in-all a fantastic site which I couldn't recommend highly enough.

A very cool campsite

We have just come back from a week at Pleasant Streams and all had the best time camping. It is the perfect place if you want a quite and relaxing holiday. The owners are really friendly and you can see they have put their heart and soul into making it what it is. The boating lake and fires helped to create an idyllic retreat. There was a lot of space between tents and you never felt like you were crammed in. Our kids (3 and 6) loved the place and met some of the animals there. They played in the summer house and also met a lot of friends. We would definitely go again.

Getaway to a beautiful hideaway

The owners are uber-friendly, the site is huge, and has a feel of total serenity. We stayed for a couple of nights and I spoke to the owner and asked if we could be away from other campers – no problem at all, the site is so big, with a few different fields so easy to hide away. There are a few ponds (mini lakes) with boats so you can row around in the sun. Shower and wash facilities are adequate, and clean.

It very very picturesque, and you feel completely relaxed with no noise except birds and the occasional cow. Lots of farms chickens, goats and pigs to make a fuss of, and beautifully maintained flowered "hidden" gardens surround the area. Logs are available for purchase and if you need anything else, St.Austell is about 2 miles away. Mevagissey is about 5 miles away too, and is a lovely town. Please don't bank on any WiFi – there is none, and no Wifi in Mevagissey either (3G).

I would like to say thank you to the owners and we will be back very soon

Ducks, geese, pigs and goats!

We stayed at this lovely campsite for the whole of our two week holiday in July 2013, although we had originally intended to move around Cornwall. Yes, we liked it that much! There are no designated pitches so you are free to pick your spot, and the view to the lake (only a couple of metres from our tent) was so peaceful and engaging. The owners encourage all to make full use of the lovely gardens, and a daily visit to feed the pigs was  certainly a highlight... they love banana skins! Thank you for a wonderful time Lesley and the duck eggs... we will return one day! Bob & Donna x

Pleasant Streams Farm

We stayed at this campsite in early June and used it as a base to attend an Eddie Izzard gig at the Eden Project and to enjoy the Cornish coastline.

The campsite has idyllic scenery and has a cool pond and rowing boat to enjoy, complete with duck and geese onlookers. The owners were incredibly friendly and also kept a couple of pigs and goats. I'd recommend this place as an excellent place for those wanting to stay in nice countryside surroundings.
