A basic but spectacularly located campsite on Cornwall's Penwith Peninsula, built on the resources of Mousehole's local football club
You’ve heard of campsites with a football pitch on offer, but how about the other way round? Tucked in the far southwestern corner of Cornwall, Mousehole Camping offers exactly that – a great non-league football club that has a handy campsite adjacent to their top quality pitch.
Trungle Parc is home to Mousehole AFC of the Western Premier League. The essential facilities have long been in place - hot showers, toilets and sinks inside the main changing rooms with a well drained flat field providing the ideal conditions for camping. They have 34 good sized pitches, some hardstanding with electric, some grass with electric, some just grass. If you’re a fan of that slightly makeshift, pop-up campsite feel then you can’t go far wrong here.
The main camping season runs from mid-April to mid-September but self-contained campervans and smaller motorhomes (max 7m) can book a hardstanding pitch all year round. And there might even be a free game to watch - the season generally begins in mid-July and ends in early May.
The campsite is well laid out and the facilities are very well maintained but a real benefit of the campsite is it’s wonderful location near Mousehole Harbour and just 10 miles from Land’s End.

A stroll away from the campsite entrance, the tiny village of Paul has all the endearing characteristics you’d expect of a village with the same name as your mate from down the road. Paul’s local, the Kings Arms, is a cosy, old stone haunt, with a couple of picnic benches outside, looking across to the parish church opposite. The centre of the village’s history, this towered old building is said to have been founded in the year 409 by the Welsh saint, Paul Aurelian... though a further two Saint Paul’s are also disputably it’s rightful honouree. Today’s structure actually dates to the year 1600, after the invitingly isolated Penwith Peninsula was sacked and burned by marauding Spaniards five years earlier.

The campsite or, more accurately, the football club, takes its name from the next village over, a tiny cluster of houses encircling a beautiful old harbour. It was here that the Spanish first landed, with a plaque outside the only surviving building that reads "Squire Jenkyn Keigwin was killed here 23 July 1595 defending this house against the Spaniards". Today the picture-perfect spot, speckled with colourful dinghies, boasts a sandy crescent beach when the tide is out and excellent crabbing opportunities from the far harbour walls. It’s your first discovery of many along this stretch of heritage coastline; a peninsula on the very edge of the country with all the drama, history and intrigue that you could ask for.

Facilities on site include 24 large flat grass pitches and, new for 2022, all have the option of a 16 amp electric hook-up. There are also 11 all weather hardstanding pitches (also with electric hook-up), pitches for glamping Bell Tents, excellent free wi-fi, tiled solar-powered showers and washing-up area, a community freezer, free phone charging points and ample car parking for additional vehicles. The glamping Bell Tents are available for the Whitsun Bank holiday and for the peak season (July and August).

All campers receive welcome information on arrival. BBQ’s and small fires are permitted as long as they are raised off the ground.

The shower, toilet and washing-up facilities are a short walk around the football pitch. Mousehole Camping  provide a disabilities toilet / shower / wet room that can be accessed but be aware that some of the access surfaces around the ground are uneven which does not make it ideal for wheelchairs.

Also please note that a few football matches take place in April and from mid- July onwards but all campers get free entry! The showers are out of action for a short time whilst the matches take place but there are toilets that are always available for use.

Suitable For

The site is ideal for campervans, tents and small motorhomes (7m max). It is NOT suitable for larger motorhomes as the approach roads from Penzance are narrow and the entrance to the site itself is steep. The site is not licensed to accept caravans.

Mousehole Camping  welcome families, small groups, walkers, cyclists and campers looking for a quiet ‘Cool Camping’ campsite in a great Cornish location. Well behaved dogs and their well behaved owners are welcome!

The campsite operates a ‘quiet campsite’ policy between 11pm and 7am so please book elsewhere if you think that you would prefer a busier site.

Walk the 15 minutes to picture perfect Mousehole, an attractive fishing village centred around its beautiful old harbour. Wander the cobbled streets visiting the art galleries and independent shops or catch a bus from there to Penzance, the most well known spot on the Penwith Peninsula and just 3 miles from the campsite. St Michael's Mount (01736 710265) is then just a 20-minute walk along the seafront and across the beach – you can walk the causeway at low tide or take the boat when it's high. Elsewhere, you can't come this far and not go all the way out to Land's End, the UK's most south westerly point. Just a couple of miles to its east Porthcurno Beach is extremely popular, though its surprising treat is actually the overlooking Telegraph Museum (01736 810966), marking what was once the world’s biggest submarine telegraph station. Step inside to find family quiz trails, secret WWII tunnels and interactive exhibits. The adjacent Minack Theatre (01736 810181) is also a must-see. Take a blanket and picnic and watch a play at the ocean’s edge.

Food & Drink

Just 500 metres away, the tiny village of Paul has a great local, The Kings Arms (01736 731224), serving hearty pub meals and a wide range of beers. We are a short downhill stroll to the village of Mousehole with it's amazing harbour and more options when it comes to pubs and restaurants.
The main town of Penzance is less than 10 minutes drive away with more wide-spread amenities, such as major supermarkets (Tesco, Lidl, Sainsburys and Morrisons), fast food outlets and a great range of take aways and restaurants.

Other useful amenities in Penzance include a 24hr urgent care Hospital, numerous doctors and chemists, a main line train station, regular buses and taxis, a leisure centre, a cinema and a unique ferry service which will take you to the beautiful Isles of Scilly.

Mid-April to mid-September for tents.
Whitsun Bank Holiday, July and August for Bell Tents/glamping.
Campervans and motorhomes (max 7m) all year round.

The Owner Says

Mousehole Camping is a small, family and dog friendly campsite based at a local football club in the quiet village of Paul near Penzance.

Our full 2022 summer camping season begins on April 11th and then runs to mid-September. Throughout the winter we make a few hardstanding pitches available to give self-contained campervans touring Cornwall a place to stay with an electric hook-up. Please note, however, that the facilities are understandably limited for the off season period.

For summer 2022 we will provide 35 flat pitches, 24 of which are on the grass. A new addition is that ALL pitches will have the option of an electric hook-up. The site gets quickly booked out throughout July and August - so book early to avoid disappointment!

The campsite operates a ‘quiet campsite’ policy between 11pm and 7am so please look elsewhere if you prefer a busier site.

Bell Tents sleeping 4 persons are available for Whitsun Bank holiday, July and August.

The campsite is just 500 metres from the Kings Arms, a local pub serving great food and beers, a mile from the famous Mousehole Harbour.

The traditional and iconic fishing harbour at Newlyn is less than 10 minutes drive away as is Penzance itself which provides a wide range of local amenities including supermarkets (Tesco, Co-op, Sainsburys, Lidl and Morrisons), fast food outlets and great restaurants serving a wide selection of food and drinks.

Local attractions include Porthcurno beach, the world famous open-air Minack Theatre, St. Michael’s Mount, Lamorna Cove, the South West coast path and, of course, Land’s End.

Getting There

Drive to Penzance and head towards Newlyn. Do  NOT take the coast road to Mousehole as the harbour roads are too narrow - ignore your sat nav if it sends you via Mousehole! From the crossroads at Newlyn go straight across and continue up the steep hill following the sign to Paul. Please note that this road narrows in places. Continue to the top of the hill (approximately one mile) until you reach a T-junction signposted Mousehole and Paul. Turn left and in half a mile, before Paul church, turn right (the campsite is signposted). The entrance to the campsite is at the end of the road next to Paul Cricket Club.

There are good bus and train services  to Penzance and there is a local bus service from Penzance to Paul. The open-top double decker ‘Land’s End Coaster’ is easily accessible from the campsite with regular services around the peninsular to St. Ives, Penzance and, of course, Land’s End itself.

Well Positioned Site Close To Paul and Mousehole

We visited this excellent campsite in January and as you can imagine the Cornish weather was not kind to us! However the site was a short distance from the lovely village of Paul and we managed to visit the beautiful little church and had an excellent meal in the village pub. Mousehole is a bit more of a challenge if you are of a certain age as the return is quite steep. It’s worth the walk though as Mousehole is a unique and pretty Cornish fishing village with pubs and cafes, even at this time of year. Not the cheapest places to eat but you are paying for the beautiful location. Lots of pretty tiny lanes to explore and lots of history around every corner. It’s a shame that so many properties are holiday lets and not owned by locals. Unfortunately most of Cornwall is like this now. Getting back to the site we would definitely recommend it this time of year as it is quiet and peaceful with nice views across the fields to the village. Facilities are basic but clean, however there is only one bathroom available for all and NO heating. I wouldn’t want to visit in the spring/summer months as the roads are tiny and reversing every few minutes would be the norm! If you are travelling by car or walking it would be an excellent place to stay, however vans over 7mtrs long would struggle. Overall we would definitely recommend this site but you would need to choose your dates carefully if travelling in a motorhome. We’d still give it 5 stars though.

Response from Mousehole Camping

Thank you Cobby for your very fair review. Being only 10 miles from Lands End we fully agree with you about the perils of our narrow Cornish roads and, yes, our campsite is definitely only suitable for vehicles up to 7m in length. It is, however, a lovely area as you point out and we’re glad that you found Mousehole Camping to be clean and friendly. Finally, we’ve noted your comment regarding heating in the winter shower area and we’ll see what we can do to resolve that issue. Thanks again and come back soon!

Comfortable, friendly and exactly as advertised

The hard standing pitches are well maintained and stood up even to weather in December. The facilities were beautifully clean and well looked after and everyone very friendly. A lovely location near Mousehole and a stone’s throw from lovely beaches and attractions. The local village and church is lovely and people very welcoming. The electric supply to all pitches is very welcome and I’m sure that the water supply is probably next on the list so hoses can be attached on site but an alternative is nearby behind the clubhouse. Looking forward to coming back again. Thank you.

Small, comfortable and great location

The site is as described and has what you need for a comfortable camp. Good sized flat pitch, and easy access to the football club's basic shower etc. facilities. Basic, but clean and fit for purpose. Great location from which to get to and see Penwith. Friendly and easy check-in; happy to help. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Amazing place with very friendly people

amazing place with picturesque surroundings and views this place was recommended to us by our friend who has been there last year and I am so thankful to her to show it to us! It was our first family camping and first time in Cornwall. We absolutely loved it! Really nice, quiet place with everything you need when camping. I also want to say a big thank you to a very friendly people who are looking after this place! Dog friendly place is a plus! I highly recommend this place!!!5 star!!!

Response from Mousehole Camping

Joanna, thankyou  for your review. We’re very pleased that you enjoyed your first camping experience and we hope that you’ll visit us again!

Perfect location, great facilities and the loveliest people

I'll admit I was slightly apprehensive when I booked at the thought of camping alongside a football pitch - but I needn't have worried at all! The site was so well located, brilliantly laid out, spotlessly clean, and the campsite manager (Paul) and his partner could not have been more helpful and welcoming. Pitch allocation is on a big board as you drive in, along with lots of useful info, pitches are spacious with both the hardstanding/hook up area and a large grass area alongside. Facilities are in the football club, just a short walk through the site - toilets, showers, washing up and use of the changing rooms for drying hair, mirrors etc. So well thought out. Perfect location for walking into Mousehole without worrying about driving down the narrow streets, for local buses, etc. Again huge thanks to Paul for his local knowledge, and even checking we were back ok from our evening trip to the Minnack Theatre. Lovely lovely people - could not recommend this site highlighted enough! thank you

Response from Mousehole Camping

Mandy, we’re glad that you enjoyed your break and we are very pleased that we were able to overcome your ‘apprehension’. Yes, we’re slightly different than some campsites but that makes it even more fun!! We hope that you’ll return again for another visit!

Lovely little site with friendly and helpful staff.

Great little place with everything you need. There is a little shed with plug sockets and a freezer. Toilets are in the football changing rooms and clean. Also plug socket and mirror in changing rooms. There is a pub 5 mins walk away and 15 min walk to Mousehole which is a cute little harbour village. Uphill on way back but worth it! Half hour drive to Lands end, we preferred Lizard point which is just under an hour away. Beautiful part of the country and we're all happy we picked this site.

Easy camping in

Lovely welcoming hosts, perfect location for exploring West Penwith and beyond, chilled out & fun for the kids - particularly because when we arrived there was a cricket match happening behind our tent, and Mousehole AFC we’re playing - lively & great atmosphere. Great clean facilities just a short stroll from our tent. We can’t wait to come back!

Great little campsite with very helpful, friendly and cheerful staff.

What a wonderfully situated site, Mousehole is about a mile down the road and Newlyn is 1 1/2 miles in the other direction. Facilities are basic but clean and it’s very well ran. We had a fabulous 5 night stay and will most definitely return in the future. Hopefully the football will be on next time as the Saturday match was postponed sadly.

A lovely site

We had a great week despite some dodgy weather. This site is perfectly located for Mousehole and the surrounding coastline. It is well kept and very well run with friendly and helpful staff. Nice hot showers and good facilities - its a bit of a schlep to the loos, but all good for the step count. Great value and a really affordable way to enjoy what is becoming an increasingly overpriced/exclusive area. Kids spent every evening jumping off the harbour wall at Mousehole with tons of other kids. They are already insisting that we come back next year!

Polly, a shame about the ‘dodgy’ weather but we’re pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us and that your kids especially enjoyed Mousehole harbour. If you do choose to visit us again next year you will be very welcome!

‘Pop up’ but enough facilities and extremely clean loos and showers - great. People running it were really friendly and very helpful indeed. Peaceful - no loud music etc. Other campers friendly. Had a lovely time with friends and family.

Fantastic friendly little site!

Stayed here two summers on the trot now, have to say it’s a little gem of a site. Small but has everything we needed in our campervan for a great stay, including decent WiFi for the kids! Lovely people running the site too. Facilities have been spotless both times we have visited, will definitely return. Great food in the Kings Arms in Paul too…

Response from Mousehole Camping

We are pleased that you enjoyed your return visit this year. Make it a hat-trick next year? You’ll be very welcome!

Quiet, calm and welcoming

Quiet campsite. Large changing rooms with showers (they are the football changing rooms). The communal showers are divided up with a shower curtain so not as private as some but fine by me. Plenty of hot water for washing up, showers etc. A bit of a walk to the toilets/washing up from the pitches. Shed with charging points, freezer etc. Friendly staff. A bit of a novelty for my youngest staying at a football pitch. No food/drinks etc and a walk downhill into Mousehole which is about a mile (steep back up hill). The Kings Arms is a short walk away and food and drink are absolutely fine.

Response from Mousehole Camping

Jenny, we’re happy that you a good stay and that your youngest enjoyed the novelty of camping next to a football pitch!! We look forward to your next visit - you’ll be very welcome!

Perfect place for family holiday

Lovely camp site, run by very hard working stuff very enthusiastic people. Perfect location for exploring Cornish attractions. Only 20 min walk from Mousehole, 10 min drive from Penzance. Highly recommended.

Response from Mousehole Camping

We’re glad that you enjoyed your break Pawel and you’ll be most welcome to return for another visit!

Lovely little site, friendly staff

Lovely little site, the staff are very friendly and helpful. The showers are the football teams showers with a few shower curtains but they and hot and powerful. There's a washing line for you to hang your towels and swimming costumes. The facilities are very clean and well looked after. There is a communal freezer, which is fab. The bus stops are within walking distance, as is Mousehole harbour. We had the smallest EHU pitch but we just managed to fit our drive away awning on it.

Lovely hard working staff, pretty site

Friendly well kept site. The Bell tent is pretty but does get very cold at night. Bring a small fan heater!! ( even when there’s a heat wave) Inflatable mattresses not my fav, bring a hairdryer to re-inflate. I didn’t have a car so limited on amount I could bring but would definitely recommend a roll up mattress. Showers basic but workable. Beautiful walks and beaches especially Sennen
Jul 22, 2021 by Sarah

Response from Mousehole Camping

Sarah, yes, it does cool down at night even in July so your idea of providing fan heaters in the Bell Tents is a good one for next season. Good ideas are always appreciated!

Sunny quirky lovely camping

My partner and I had a long weekend camping and we were so lucky with the hot weather. The staff were really friendly and the freezer was handy for our ice packs. Fantastic area- we explored gorgeous Mousehole, Porthcurno beach, watched a football game at the campsite, St Michael’s Mount and beautiful Sennen beach. We plan to go back to explore the area more.

Good clean facilities and a relaxed feel with large pitch sizes and a lovely welcome pack on arrival. Totally recommend this site as one of the nicest we’ve been to in a while and will definitely be booking again.

Great position, lovely staff, great facilities. Toilet and shower facilities are very clean. I’d describe as basic and not that private as in football club changing rooms but all good for us. Lovely pub in village but do book ahead for food. Bus passes within a short walk so good to use to get around. Clubhouse not open when we were there so don’t necessarily expect drinks and snacks on site. Highly recommended as a great site

Amazing Stay

Just came back from a 3 night stay and we loved every minute of it. The connexion to the local football team gives this charming little place a unique feel. The Club is pretty much runned by volunteers that will go out of their way to make you feel welcomed. This weekend they took a TV screen out so that we could watch the Champions League Final outdoors in the Clubhouse terrace as the sun was setting. We were told that they have plans to get a bigger screen to show the Euros this summer, I can't think of many better settings to watch a game or two; an outdoor kids movie might be a nice touch on a nice summer's evening. The Clubhouse is close enough for a short safe walk for the kids, but also far enough not to interfere with the campsite's peaceful atmosphere. We also got to watch a fun Cricket game on the adjacent Cricket field whilst having a bbq; allegedly Cornwall's best batsman was playing. Outside of the sport side of things, the facilities are well maintained Football Club facilities that are just enough taking into account that the campsite is very small. The location is second to none with Cornwall's best beaches and the beautiful Minack theatre, where we saw a show, just a short drive away. The picturesque fishing village of Mousehole just a quick walk down the hill. Supermarkets are also just a short drive away...All in all the combination of convince and uniqueness made this little place an ideal choice for our family.

Basic camping

Its a football club who is doing camping on the side and is good that the money from the campsite goes towards the local team. The downside is that you have to walk right around the football pitch to access the facilites. Also the facilites are not quite up to standard, not enough showers and toilets for a campsite. Staff were friendly on arrival. The pitches are all level a few electric hook up but these are all on grass no hard standing and its a good base to explore the area. Theres a good pub next door as well.

Beautiful location and spotless facilities

Quiet rural location but with all the amenities. Loved the fact you could walk to the local pub (delicious fish and chips). Super clean toilets and shower. The sun rose over the church tower. Paul is a beautiful village just a short walk from Newlyn then around to Penzance for the train home. Thanks for fitting me in.
Sep 20, 2020 by saretta

Friendly welcome, Neat, with plenty of hot water, free game of football thrown in

Well laid out flat pitches for the tents, much more than a basic campsite. It also feels good to know that the local Youth facilities are the beneficiaries of the monies raised. Camp hosts were extremely nice people, the campsite was quiet at night, and the location in Paul meant that Mousehole and the South Coast Footpath were close at hand. The football game was interesting to watch , and the quality of the pitch matched the local talent on display, both excellent. A comedy sending off for the Mousehole AFC player just added to the fun. Would definitely revisit

Really nice campsite toilets and close to pub 👍

A very peaceful campsite

We throughly enjoyed our stay. The campsite was very relaxing and quiet, the perfect place for a September getaway. All facilities were very clean, but sharing the football club facilities was a little tricker during matches. However, I would highly recommend this campsite as it was well run and the location was ideal. Thanks for an excellent weekend!

lovely unspoilt spot

this is a lovely small quiet camp site. The location is brilliant, short walk to mousehole and short drive to penzance. There are fields all around and a sense of space. vey warm welcome on arrival, electric hook up and very clean showers and loos. The showers are communal but we always had no other users. Dishwasher area has lots of hot water but is not covered which led to some wet washing up sessions. It was a lovely site for children as there is a central space visible to everyone where they met and played. Local pub (5 mins walk) does good food.

Despite weathering 2 storms, we had a fab time at Mousehole Camping!

Mousehole Camping is a small site with flat pitches. It is a long walk to showers/washing up and loos but there was always hot water and everything is clean. The couple managing the site were always helpful and friendly and even let us borrow their electric kettle when we ran out of gas. The site is well placed, close to Mousehole and Penzance. There’s a great chippy in Newlyn and a lovely fish restaurant called Mackerel Sky. The walk from Mousehole to Lamorna Cove is beautiful.

Great location, bit too small

The best thing about this campsite is the location, 5 minn walk from a pub, 15 from the lovely town of Mousehole and well connected to explore the South of Cornwall. Second best would be the flat pitches. Other positives: large changing rooms, hot water in toilets, showers and washing facility, freezer for icepacks, family shower room available, some charging points around the facilities. Now the negatives: 1- being so small when we arrived (almost full) it felt like a parking lot; 2- relatively long walk to the facilities and add mentioned, small basins and beer little privacy possible in the showers/changing rooms; 3- we found the staff almost cruel... We faced a strong storm and instead of providing advise which we would have appreciated, we got sarcastic comments about the quality of our tents. We asked if we could move for the worst night to a slightly more protected area and again, no sympathy and vague comments about wings direction potentially changing. I though they being the experts in this campsite could have advised that we looked for shelter in the large changing rooms or space being the football pitch seats. On the other hand, I'll be fair saying that the technical issues with hot water were quickly dealt with and cleaning was OK. All in all, we won't be repeating this one even though the facilities were overall good. We've been camping in the UK for 10 years and this is our first slightly unpleasant experience.

Great site

Great site with friendly accommodating staff. Big flat pitches. Warm showers (curtained off group showers) with heated changing rooms with mirrors and plugs. 4 clean loos with paper. Washing up area had hot water too! Plenty of space as the site is next to the football and cricket pitches. A pub is an easy walk from the site with Mousehole a bit further (approx a 15 minute walk) down the hill - pretty harbour town with a pebble beach off to the left. We would highly recommend this site, plus the camping fees helps fund the youth football team so your money is going to help the local community. We will definitely be back!

Lovely, peaceful campsite in a great location

This is a small and peaceful campsite, with well marked and good sized pitches, and a noise cut-off time of 11pm. The facilities are basic but clean with good hot showers. The sinks are small and the toilet block is a few minutes walk away from the campsite so be prepared! We ate at the Kings Arms in Paul and the Old Coastguard in Mousehole, both within walking distance. We would definitely come back.

Great place for camping

The beautiful quiet place to stay near the football field. And the showers have really hot water which is awesome!

Comfortable Camping

The campsite was nice and spacious with excellent facilities. The showers and the toilets were in the football clubhouse with hot showers and clean toilets. Would stay here again.

Charming if basic

So much charm - lovely guy who runs it and we were thrilled to be away from the standard holiday home type park. Very quiet and fun that cricket games are just there- we had a great meal at the local pub as well. No electric hookup (yet!) or chemical waste etc but it was our favourie place!

Great campsight

We really enjoyed camping here, the facilities were all in the club house and very good. They now have pre marked camping pitches that are a good size. We really liked the location with Mousehall being a 20 minute walk away and a very good pub a 5 minute walk away.

Quiet, basic facilities but suitable for what you need. Good pub within walking distance. Walking distance from Mousehole although uphill back to site!

Spaces are not defined, we arrived back from the pub one evening to find ourselves surrounded by a large group in numerous tents large and small and the ‘communal’ eating area virtually at our back door! No respect for other campers ‘personal space’ which may have been avoided by clearly defined plots.

Basic but adventurous camping in a good location

Our stay at Mousehole AFC was not with incident - despite it being the middle of summer the front of our tent was blown in, and the field just about held off becoming a paddy field at some points. We stayed for two weeks, and were very well looked after by the site manager Les. One problem was the lack of defined pitches in the busy period; it meant we had to move at one point just to have a decent amount of privacy. Loved the showers - very nice after a day's activity, and the location is great - easily reach stunning clifftop walks, beaches and coves.

Chilled out Cornwall

We were welcomed to the site by Les who turned up within a few minutes of contacting him and showed us where to pitch our tent, he gave us a quick run down of the local area and gave us some money off vouchers for local attractions. The shower facilities are within the football changing rooms and could cope fine with the amount of people staying on the site. The field was full with other campers and there was room to park the car next to our tent. There is a bar which is open in the evening with a pool table and table football, we made use of this as it was very damp during our stay. There was also a game on for one of the evenings which meant there was a great atmosphere in the bar as they have a good following. The campsite is in a great location with a nice walk down to Mousehole although we couldn't face the walk back up the hill so got the bus. It is just a short drive to Penzance, just a few minutes where there are a number of supermarkets. If you are looking for a decent, back to basics campsite on a small scale this place is perfect chilled out Cornwall- 'andsome!
