Ruthern Valley Holidays

Ruthern Valley Holidays, Ruthern Bridge, Bodmin, Cornwall PL30 5LU
In the middle of Cornwall, this is a magic place to escape the beach crowds.
After a nice day on the beach at Polzeath or Rock, surrounded by surfers and Sloanes, Ruthern Valley is somewhere you can escape to, hidden among the green canopy of Cornwall’s countryside interior. Close to Bodmin Moor, this secluded, beguiling little site is humming with wildlife, so children can have plenty of fun spotting rabbits and squirrels, and budding ornithologists can look out for woodpeckers a-pecking and hear owls a-hooting. Having said that, they’ll probably enjoy feeding the chickens just as much, too. It’s a top location, with the wild delights of Land’s End an hour or so away, and Bodmin Moor, the perfect place for stomping around with children, as you regale them with heady stories about smugglers and highwaymen, isn’t far. Or you could cycle to Padstow for a crabbing session on the quay and perhaps a slap-up portion of Mr Stein’s famous fish and chips, which is a pretty-much perfect way to while away an afternoon. Grogley Woods are close to the site and lovely for shady walks. So, at the end of a busy day, when you’ve had your fill, and more, of sun, sea and sand, what could be better than the peaceful, leafy shade of Ruthern Valley?

The Owner Says

Ruthern Valley

I booked this campsite after reading the reviews on cool camping and, as ever, we were not disappointed. A lovely site which is relatively small and a joy for our small boys (5 and 3). Hidden paths through the trees, a playground, chickens, sheep and a pig to feed. The boys also attended the weekly forest school and had an amazing time. The showers were warm although they got a bit muddy towards the end of the day - but it was peak season and busy. Easy to access padstow and the northern beaches as well as down to The Eden Project. We had terrible weather but there was no shortage of things to do all an easy drive away. Remember 50ps for the washers and dryers.

Brilliant, peaceful and lots of wildlife

A brilliant campsite for quiet couples and families alike. They have a fantastic little shop selling all sorts of fresh produce and ingredients! Very clean, friendly and great facilities! The wildlife was my favourite bit and we had some little field mice babies set up camp under our groundsheet. It was so brilliant to see wildlife flourishing!

Lovely even in December - romantic

We stopped off here on a long drive to break up the journey but avoid holiday inns. It was perfect and I cannot recommend it enough even for one night. Creature comforts of a fridge and electricity plus so comfy and unique. Ruthern valley were great from start to finish - accommodating a much later then expected arrival, making sure that since it was chilly that the heating was on and we were near the toilets and provide mugs for our wine and even helped change a flat type. Out with the holiday inn and in with the authentic innkeepers at a perfect holiday spot.

A little gem, just don't tell too many people :-)

We camped here in a tent for 2 weeks in the early summer of 2013. This place is an absolute gem and is perfect for families. The main camping field doesn't allow cars on so you can let toddlers run around without worrying about them getting ran over. There are paths through the onsite woods and a park with a football pitch for older kids. There is no club house so you can have an early night without being waken, or you can sit under the stars and enjoy your evening without hearing the noises you get on larger campsites. The toilet and shower blocks are clean, and looked recently refurbished. The on site shop sells local produce and is well stocked. This place allows you to see some of rural Cornwall, while being central to all of the main attractions. There's a real sense of community when staying here, maybe due to the size of the site and the type of people it attracts, but probably also to do with the overall environment and atmosphere the owners have created. Then there's the price, I had to check the bill a few times to make sure we'd booked for 2 weeks. This place is really good value for money. If we come back to Cornwall, we won't be camping anywhere else.

One of my favourite camp sites ever. Clean, chilled, great shop, masses of space for the children to run around in plus a play park and animals wandering around. 10/10 Great location for beach and Eden Project.

What a lovely hideaway Ruthern Valley is! Central enough to see all the delights that Cornwall has to offer, but a peaceful haven in the evening to enjoy relaxing in the countryside. Close enough to walk/cylce to the Camel Valley Trail as well. Great site and the cabins are perfect if it is too cool for canvas. Convenient shop selling some yummy local produce too. We’ll be back soon!
