Atlantic Surf Pods
West Grove Farm, Bude, Cornwall, EX23 9TG
Although these green-roofed, squat wooden huts aren’t quite surfside, they make the perfect holiday pods for the wannabe surf gang. Cool, good-looking and far superior to a tent when you need R&R after a battle with the Atlantic swell, these trendy little eco-pods are within easy reach (a mile's walk away) of Bude’s pumping surf scene. After all, these days there’s no need to rough it if you want to dip a toe in the surfing lifestyle Cornwall’s so famous for. In fact, flopped on a giant beanbag, the gas barbecue alight and a cold beer in hand, initiation to ‘surf-camping’ can be positively luxurious. As long as you’ve got a surfboard to prop up by the door, you could even skip donning a wetsuit and fast-forward to a sundowner on the deck, or a night gazing at the stars from your cave-like dwelling.
The eponymous oval pods are ingeniously designed. With a king-sized bed, new hot showers and solar-powered lighting, these trendy wooden huts also come kitted out with all the essentials from cooking stuff and a cool-box to bedding for extra pod-mates.
The spin-off business of an ex shell-trader, there’s plenty of shell-themed décor and a shell shop and workshop onsite, which can be a brilliant distraction when the surf’s flat, the kids are bored or the rain sets in. There’s also a cedar-wood tree house under construction that will take the shape of a giant nautilus shell and have it’s own spa garden with a hot tub.
