The Owner Says

Welcoming campervans, caravans and the humble tenting camper, The Pig Place is open to all and it’s signage sums up the general atmosphere. The focus here is not on plush camping pitches with power-showers and strings of wooden clad chalets, no, first and foremost this is a simple, yet delightful small holding and only after the animals, the farm shop and the mouth-wateringly good food van came the campsite.

The resulting ethos is fantastic. The camping is wonderfully rustic – there are several portable toilets and no showers on the site – but that certainly doesn’t mean it is neglected, with Dean and Sara always on hand and inviting you over when it’s feeding time to join in and see the pigs. It’s inclusive, but not overbearing, and their conscious decision to keep everything small-scale and low key, makes it a sociable and thoroughly relaxed place to pitch.

Visit the farm shop, selling meat, free range eggs, veg and alcohol, is truly enviable – though if you envy it too much you may end up buying a couple of hens to take home with you – and the cooking trailer (The Shack) is opened up each day to serve an unbeatable home-reared breakfast, lunch and supper.

Nearby, the town of Banbury has enough independent shops and restaurants to keep you busy and the immediacy of the M40 means seemingly far off towns like Oxford and Warwick are actually just 40 minutes or so away.

About The Pig Place Campsite

Suitable For

This is an adults-only campsite.

Adults, tents, campervans, caravans and dogs – yes. Children under 18 – no.

The canal towpath provides excellent walks to some of Oxfordshire's and Northamptonshire's prettiest villages, pubs and restaurants. If you don't mind using the car, though, it's just 4 miles to Banbury, its attractions include, aptly for this campsite, Tooley’s Boatyard (01295 272917), dating back over 200 years and the oldest working dry dock in the country – if you fancy a boat trip on the canal this is the place to come. For a longer day trip pack some of the site's bacon sarnies and drive to Shakespeare's Stratford-Upon-Avon, historic Warwick, or south to magnificent Oxford – all are within a 40 minute drive.

Food & Drink

The farm shop here is truly excellent. Their rare breeds provide excellent sausages and various different cuts, along with free range eggs. Better still, every day there is hot food available. The freshly cooked food from their outdoor café includes sausage, bacon and eggs and burgers, BBQ pulled pork and weekend specials plus decent coffee and cake.
Though there are 4 pubs in nearby Adderbury, the more pleasant option is to walk the half hour along the canal towpath. It's around 2 miles to The Great Western Arms (01869 338288) a fantastic old pub with a good beer garden and family-friendly atmosphere.

Lovely stay - would definitely book again

We have just returned from a 2 night stay, we had a fab time loved staying on the farm, we found it be a relaxing site with a great quirky bar, I am usually a light sleeper but didnt need to wear ear plugs. We will definitely book again, love the fact we could go again with friends and there is no set formation on parking the campervans so we could all park together.

Thank you very much!    We look forward to your return, with all your friends!

Nice but…

I enjoyed my stay at the Pig Place. It is very Quirky. Nice location apart from the noisy Motorway. The Portaloos were struggling to cope with all the Campers. Wot no Loo paper. Only one tap could be used due to very low water pressure. Exspensive Shop. Would I go back…probably not.

Response from The Pig Place Campsite

Thank you for your staying at The Pig Place. I do apologise that we ran out of toilet roll, but they are restocked a minimum of every hour.  All our toilets have posters asking you to tell us if there is anything that needs attending too.  It is a shame that people don't feel it necessary to advise us when we run out of toilet roll and wait to tell the internet, by which time is is too late to rectify this for the next person or the next person.    We are grateful when people do tell us.   We do not inspect the toilets after every person leaves, you wouldn't want us too.   We carry out shops in other fam shops and our prices are very reasonable, all the produce is made locally by small businesses, and our meat is organic home grown, with no additives to make it go further.  People come here just to shop for local produce. so I'm sorry you were disappointed, we find this very unusual.

Good Base

Don't go to this site expecting frills etc. It's portaloos we're kept clean. Only the odd occasional camper who had trouble using them and the Sofas 🛋 to chill out on outside might not be to everyone's taste but people using them every night shows they work. And fire pits keeping you warm helps. Ear plugs are a requirement if your a light sleeper. In general its a good site and they served up a good breakfast at the snack van. The staff are friendly and helpful. We used it as a base to tour around and would happily stay again. We also found its better to venture down the smaller lanes for the hidden pubs for food as the recommended ones were good but always busy.

Thank you for your review, we appreciate your comment regarding the toilets!  They are not everyones ideal but we are a farm without mains water, so we make the most of what we have!    Hope to see you again!

Arrived to a very friendly and helpful welcome and given a good tour of the facilities etc. Found a pitch but beware you do need to level up here, despite that what a lovely site.

Nice walk along the canal to the Great Western Arms.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay.   Happy you enjoyed your time here.

Last minute find and everything we hoped for. Fantastic site

This is different to any campsite we've stopped at before. Really quirky, great set up, food and bar. Loved the sofas scattered around the canal side, great place to hang out with a drink watching the narrowboats go by. Loved the friendly attentive staff, the resident dogs and hanging out with the chickens and piglets. Yes you can hear the traffic from the main road but it's not off -putting. But take some ear plugs for bedtime, as we always do and you won't even notice anyway....we slept brilliantly. Portaloos were the cleanest I've ever come across and even at the busy times they kept on top of it. Great walk along the canal to the Great Western Arms pub, which we'd recommend as it was really lovely, with such a pretty outside dining area. Food was yummy. Wish we could have stayed longer at the pig place and will definitely go back! Absolutely loved it. Thanks guys.
