A convivial weekend-only campsite set across two hilltop meadows in the Garden of England, with campfires permitted and glamping options too.

A few years ago, Sasha and Philip bought the fifteen grassy acres of Little Pett Bottom Farm and it wasn’t long before they were lured outside by the colourful wildflowers and dark, starry skies. After camping amid the greenery of their private paddock with family and friends, they began to realise how much fun could be had by pitching a tent on their doorstep. Now they have unbolted the meadow gate, set down the basic facilities and opened up their pristine pastures to the everyday camper.

Nestled in the Kent Downs, surrounded by ancient trees, The Sunnyfield boasts a hilltop position that's blessed with sunlight all day long (hence the name). Arrival is tinged with anticipation as you wind your way through narrow lanes, the banks overgrown with cow parsley and long grass, to this truly secluded spot in the Kentish countryside. As you pull through the gate, you’re greeted with a generous open space for just 25 pitches of various sizes and a car-free site perfect for kids. Down in the orchard, a separate meadow away from the main camping field, Philip & Sasha have set up a separate glamping space with up to 10 fully furnished bell tents, plus a communal campfire pit and a cosy field shelter. You can rent a single tent or hire the whole field exclusively, while glampers with camping friends can also pitch together.

Refreshingly understated, ablutions consist of composting loos and cleverly-converted horsebox showers, while standing pipe taps are dotted around the site supplying easy access to running water. There's also a new undercover washing-up station, so you can wash up in the dry. Other than that, this is an unadulterated meadow and it's such simplicity that creates the real charm of the site. It provides a rustic, traditional camping experience, with campfires at each pitch and dogs welcomed. When you’re done larking in the flowers or clambering among the trees, it's just a short stroll over to the fantastic Italian outdoor oven, where wood-fired pizzas are served. In the shed, meanwhile, morning lattes are served to thirsty campers and there's the occasional option of yoga (information is emailed to campers before they arrive, along side any other food evenings and events).

Such a secluded setting need not cut you off entirely and those willing to re-emerge from their cocoon in the countryside will find themselves poised to make the most of South East England. By car the beaches of Dymchurch, Sandgate and Folkestone are less than half an hour away, while historic Canterbury with its distinctive cathedral is just a 15-minute drive. Then of course there are the myriad quaint local villages with excellent pubs and restaurants, while top walking and cycling routes are on the doorstep for those who want a more vehicle-free holiday. The Sunnyfield can put you in touch with a local independent bike shop if you need route advice or want to hire a bike, while canoe trips can also be arranged.

The Sunny Field is the working definition of ‘simple but effective’. Sasha and Philip saw a space made perfect for camping and thought, 'if something ain't broke, don't fix it!' Wildlife still enlivens the hedgerows and tranquility is still the word – rural camping at its best.

Composting loos, converted horsebox showers, standing pipe taps dotted around the site, plus a new undercover 99% recycled washing-up station and a wood-fired pizza oven. The bell tents include a comfy double mattress and bunk beds with all the bedding, assorted furniture, books, board games, plus an firepit and grill outside with seating. There is a swing in the oak tree and good walks from the campsite gate. Campfires are permitted with each pitch. Bike hire & canoe excursions available.

Social Distancing Measures

Stay Safe - Stay Alert: In anticipation for being able to reopen Sasha & I have made some big changes to our campsite. We have always by our very nature been a social distancing site, large pitches, well spaced apart means plenty of free space for all, but in order to help everyone stay away from others more, we have added aditional loos and better spaced out washing up stations and more hand wash stations. This we hope means that anyone wanting to get away and stay with us will have the freedom to enjoy our less crowded meadows without fear. You could of course stay in a queue outside your favourite super market looking at people knitting on facebook but that's your choice. Stay safe act wise.

8 acres of grassy space with 25 pitches available. Pitches vary in size and can take 2–3 families each and groups can be situated in areas to make them feel more private. No electric hook-ups.

Tent out of ten!

We had a wonderful couple of days at The Sunnyfield site and couldn’t fault one thing! The site is in a magical setting in the Kent countryside - and was the perfect balance of wild and informal, but with the cleanliness you always hope for on a campsite! The thoughtfully designed facilities and glamping tent were brilliant and the friendly hosts were always there to help and make us feel welcome. We found all the communication was clear beforehand are are already planning our return stay - thank you so much Sunnyfield for the rural retreat we could only have hoped for!

We'll be back!

What a lovely weekend! Lovely site.

Great campsite but the glamping experience was not as portrayed

We booked the glamping tents and ended up being in the first campsite (rather than the downhill one). The campsite itself was great but the tents didn’t look as advertised (the decor wasn’t similar or even up to par; there weren’t any games etc as mentioned). And the fridge was very far away (ten min walk). Cool boxes were provided but without the ice boxes so we had to hike out all the way in the dark (it is a steep downhill and uphill). Perhaps there is a difference between the two campsites that matters but we were quite underwhelmed to begin with. That being said the beds were comfortable and the campsite itself (the loos and the shower etc) were good. Coffee in the mornings was super but the pizza was average. In the end we had a lot of fun since the location is great as well. We would probably revisit but would ask for details on which tent we would be in before the trip.

Response from The Sunnyfield

Thank you Meera  for your feedback we welcome all response from campers and glampers so that we can continue to strive to keep the Sunnyfield experience as good as possible. As a small family run campsite we offer an off grid back to basics campsite where the simple things in life can be experienced; beautiful campsite in an ANOB, light pollution free sky’s for star gazing and sitting around a campfire.

When we received your booking we were slightly concerned about your stay due to the number of emails you sent with numerous questions you sent in multiple emails and your admission of being a novice camper. We get a lot of first time campers which is great and always try to answer these questions individually and follow up with a clear sheet of what is included in your bell tent and where you would be pitched. This did not include games due to Covid measures and was not mentioned on any of the information sent to you.

I know everything was detailed and as explained being an off grid campsite the freezer with ice packs is located by the farm house, a short 2 min drive down the hill, the majority of glampers in the top field tie in ice pack swapping with going out for the day. Each bell tent is individually decorated and we are sorry you found the styling of your tent underwhelming. We provided everything as per the information you were sent. We get a lot of positive feedback and requests for the pitch you were in being a prime west facing sunset spot looking cross the valley. We offer glamping tents in the top field and orchard but made sure with  your last minute booking and friends booking that you were pitched together in one of our best spots.

I’m so glad you loved the campsite location, compost loos, showers and coffee, and look forward to welcoming you back any time.

Absolutely loved it, a beautiful location with wonderful fascilities. We traveled from London to canterbury east via train and were able to get taxis to and from the campsite. There's a gorgeous gastro pub within walking distance and pizzas were available to order as well. Having the fire definitely was a huge bonus as it opened up a breadth of fun possibilities at night, enabling us to star gave without getting chilly and play silly campfire games too. The toilets were well located and the showers were great too. All in all, would love to go again and could not recommend it enough. Rock on a sunny field!

Sunnyfield is perfect

We really enjoyed our short stay at The Sunnyfield! A very well organised camping site. Set out are large camping areas cut between tall grass and flowers. Great coffee from the hut in the morning !!! Definitely recommend.

Idyllic camping experience

From a stunning location high in the Kentish North Downs to sustainable, ecologically friendly facilities, the Sunnyfield ranks as one of the best sites I've ever visited. We loved the spacious pitch - ample room for three 3-person tents - and considerate spacing between neighbours. Each pitch has a dedicated spot for "cowboy" fires and you can hire a fire pit complete with barbecuing rack too. All the small comforts have been thought of: wheelbarrows to transport luggage from carpark to pitch; locally sourced charcoal and wood for the fires; an option for food deliveries; witty reminders of camp etiquette (so much pleasanter than the usual passive aggressive notes!); beautifully maintained compost loos and upcycled horsebox showers. It's important to feel that we're having a minimal impact on the environment and I really felt that at The Sunnyfield; even the spaces between pitches have been allowed to grow for the bees and other pollinators. Just as important was the friendly vibe both from the campsite owner and all the other campers. Everyone was considerate of each other, which made for a relaxing stay. In terms of location, there's so much to see locally. We enjoyed swimming at a new beach every day - St Margaret's at the Cliffe, Hythe, Tankerton - and visited the beautiful, historic towns of Sandwich, Deal and Rye. Options we didn't get to but would return for are the 28-mile walk along the military canal, RHD small gauge railway and other beaches on the Whitstable side.

Beautiful site, well maintained

We really enjoyed our weekend at Sunnyside - the site is gorgeous with pitches mowed into the wildflower filled long grass, offering privacy and distinct camping areas in an otherwise large field. Campfires on each pitch, composting toilets and warm water for washing up/showers. Everything has been thought of - pizzas on Friday night, coffee in the mornings! Just be sure to bring cash! We will definitely be returning, with great days out nearby (Dover Castle, Folkestone seaside park - Lower Leas playground is amazing!) it’s a wonderful location with lots to offer!

Idyllic spot, beautifully thought-out and executed campsite

Dreamy three nights under the stars and amongst the wildflowers of Sunnyfield. Nothing to add really beyond the absolute epitome of what you want from a campsite - spacious pitches, well away from others but close enough to nod and wave friendlily, fire-spots for cooking and evening relaxation, very well presented compost loos and horse-box showers and the pizzas were great. No complaints, will def be back. Cheers

Great weekend in beautiful campsite

Just returned from staying at The Sunnyfield and had such a lovely time. Good size pitches with a good distance away from other tents. Nice and quiet at night with no noisy groups keeping us awake, we had 2 young children with us so this makes a massive different to our sleep! The pizzas were fantastic and i'd highly recommend you order them when you stay here. Can't fault this place at all! Will be coming back next year.

Fantastic vista and close to lots of great sights

Really well set up campsite. The compost loos and showers were super clean and the spacing between pitches meant you could play music all run around with kids without disturbing your neighbours. Lovely spot for having a fire and watching the stars or accessing vineyards, the coast, Canterbury, or countryside walks and pubs. It would have been nice to have had someone there whilst we were checking out (as we needed to get our fire pit deposit back) and there were quite a few families waiting. But otherwise a great stay. The pizzas were divine. Hope to be back next year.

Lovely site, very spacious pitches

We had a last minute new tent test weekend at Sunnyfield. Very big pitches, space for our 7.5m x 3.5m tent and a separate tarp cooking area and space to play frizby in between. Stunning area, middle of no where, clear night skies, no light pollution apart from camp fires. Lovely off road walk to local pub 4K away. Very tall compost loos so no smells! Amazing showers, like a wet room in a boutique hotel. Thinking about returning already.

What every camping experience should be like

What a wonderful approach to camping: getting back to the roots and ethos of camping. Minimising waste, environmental impact etc. Maximising peace, tranquility, closeness to nature. All this is made possible by the approach of the owners. And for those worrying about negotiating a compost loo - don't worry. They were absolutly spotless. The way the pitches are set out avoids all the worry of overcrowding, and the addition of the on site pizzas and coffee was the icing on the cake. Or was it gazing at the stars...or watching the sun rise...

Space space space - proper camping!

The absence of cars in the camping fields and enormous (In camping terms) distance between the very generously sized pitches were the big winners for us. Also no busy road anywhere in the vicinity so the peaceful vibe is guaranteed. If this floats your boat then you will love this place. The local pub (The George) is a wonderful place for a drink in the garden watching the sun go down, and for food. Michael (the lovely landlord) even put on a vegetarian special for us - so kind - and his apple pie is to die for! Couple of minor points (and feel free to correct if necc) - as far as we could make out the shed in Sunnyfield was only open in the afternoon/early eve when we were there so I guess the morning coffee is down the hill at the Farmhouse? Also after a great storm overnight we struggled for any hot water when washing up but maybe this was a one off - possibly weather related. We found some from a wash-station eventually so all good in the end). Also some basics for sale on site (milk, bread etc) would be appreciated and would seem to fit the eco vibe rather than individuals having to drive out to the nearest village shop (the advice we were given). I noticed they do have a weekly delivery to Site on a Friday so that's a plus if your stay coincides (ours didn't unfortunately). All in all though this site is special, and we hope to come back soon!! 💖💕

Peaceful family camping

We just came back from 3 nights at The Sunnyfield and were overwhelmed by how peaceful and relaxing an experience it was. The facilities are eco friendly, quirky and simple but spotlessly clean. The compost loos were a first for us but we and the kids found them to be clean and tidy and perfectly fine to use, there was a constant supply of toilet roll and sawdust and we wouldn't think twice about using them in the future. The showers in the horsebox were a real novelty, basic but clean and the water was hot so everything you needed. The hosts couldn't have been more helpful, we happened to be there on a day of 50mph winds and high rains and they helped us move to a more sheltered pitch and gave us extra tent pegs etc, someone was there every day to advise on walks and local pubs. Having camped at so many sites over the years as a family we have never stayed somewhere with so much space between pitches, where it was so quiet, especially in the evenings where we sat out with a campfire and looked at the stars and you couldn't hear anyone else after 10pm, it was really noticeable. What was also striking is maybe the type of people that this campsite attracts, everyone was so friendly, everyone was there just as couples or small family groups, just enjoying the surroundings, everyone said hello and offered to help when the storm was battering each others tents, everyone respected the 'no noise after 10pm' which is very unusual and made it somewhere we all commented was so unique and tranquil and we would definetely return. If I had to suggest anything then Yes an extra horsebox shower would be great but there wasn't often a queue. We would definetely return, in fact we're looking forward to it in 2021.

Quiet little gem in North Downs

This campsite is a lot smaller and quieter than ones we usually visit. However, it was well set out and managed and nestled in beautiful countryside. We liked that cars were not allowed around the pitches, leaving the children to play freely, and my family loved the novelty of taking our belongings to our pitch in a wheelbarrow. Each pitch was a good size and well separated from other tents not in our party. We had a mown area in which to pitch which was surrounded by long grasses right up to the adjacent pitches which meant people not in our group didn't venture near our tent. The facilities on site were very adequate and well maintained and the owners were incredibly helpful and accommodating both in the booking process and whilst we were on site. The stone baked pizzas were an added bonus. We all enjoyed the walk from the campsite through the countryside to the local pub (a good 1.5 hours there and then back with little ones in tow) with not a road in site until we reached the pub. We really enjoyed the experience. The children (who are predominantly 11 and 13) may be would have preferred another swing or two, the chance to explore in the woods and around but they were generally contented and everyone had a great weekend. Thank you Sasha and Philip!

Perfect campsite

Simple enough to be proper rural camping, but with the basic facilities to provide everything you need. Lovely countryside, lots of space and delicious pizzas!

Beautiful field - great stay

Stayed midweek during COVID-19 pandemic. Thought field was beautiful and perfect size. I loved having a huge mown circle just for us. Kids loved rope swings. Pizzas were yummy. Toilets and showers being outside meant no sharing air with others which was great for social distancing and I thought all the facilities were great. Wished we’d tried the walks from the site but did have lovely easy day trips to camber sands for dunes and Herne bay /Reculver for fossils, ruins, funfair on the pier and crabbing! Thanks for lovely stay!

Beautiful campsite away from it all

A great rugged campsite, in a beautiful setting! All the sites are so well spaced out and the facilities are great too - good compost loos and good showers in converted horse boxes. Would deft recommend this well ran place. Oh and they do delicious pizzas on Tuesdays too!

Spacious and chilled campsite in great location

We had a lovely weekend here with our campervan. The pitches are huge and well spaced and the toilets and shower plentiful and clean. Loved the icecream van that came everyday!

A must stay for everyone

What a fantastic place, even the incredible heat couldn’t dampen the experience. On arrival we were met by Philip who provided all of the instructions on the process of Glamping and the facilities which were an experience! A shower in a horse box and a no1 and 2 within a purpose built toilet onto a compost heap. The area itself is stunning with enough space to feel isolated but not too far that you can’t mingle. Individual stoves and fire pits allow for convenience with the local shops only a few miles away. I recommend a short 15 min drive into Cantebury which is stunning! Overall the experience was amazing and we will certainly be returning.

Unspoiled nature and thoughtful touches.

The site is beautiful and beautifully planned, the hosts were charming and helpful. There were stylish and thoughtful touches everywhere and the showers were a delight. I appreciated the efforts the hosts went to to ensure our comfort and safety - as well as the daily ice cream van visit. I loved it and didn't want to leave, the area has so much to offer. It is very child friendly - and that was glorious to see - just a shame a few parents didn't manage their children and let them start shrieking from 6am - however that's feedback for clients, not the campsite! Thanks Sunnyfield, will definitely rebook.

Hot August weekend but fantastic camp site

Stifling heat this weekend, but the campsite was immaculate. Compost toilets were clean and well stocked, filtered water available, good wash-up facilities, and super cool private horse box showers which again were kept clean and well managed. Each campsite was well mowed with firebox site (It was too hot for us to light but it looked delightful on other sites). Hosts were super friendly. Good places to walk around, in this heat i recommend heading a little south (2 miles) at West Wood forest.

A beautiful campsite with characterful glamping facilities!

I was part of a group of six friends who stayed in the Orchard this weekend, one of the hottest of the year so far, and had a brilliant time. The site was beautiful, well maintained and very quiet. Our pitch - for a large, 4-person bell tent and a self-pitched 2-person tent - was spacious and luckily very shady. The bell tent included comfy beds, all bed linen and was thoughtfully and quirkily furnished. The horsebox shower was fun and did the job and the composting loos were perfectly fine. (I'm a glamping amateur so had never experienced them before.) A shed by the site entrance provided rechargeable lanterns, campfire grill, gas-powered 2-ring stoves, local information and use of a large communal fridge and freezer. The surrounding countryside is so pretty with plenty of lovely villages, great views and old pubs, all of which we cyclists made the most of on our ride to the campsite and back again to SE London. All in all, we had a lovely weekend and I'd highly recommend this site! Thanks to Sasha and the campsite team for all their hard work : )

A beautiful campsite with characterful glamping facilities!

I've just come back from a long, hot weekend at The Sunnyfield campsite with 5 friends: 4 of us in a very roomy bell tent with comfy beds and quirky furniture and 2 others in a pitched tent next door. We were in a corner of the Orchard (lower campsite) which luckily provided us with quite a bit of shade, given the temperature was above 30 degrees C every day! The site is incredibly peaceful and secluded and each pitch provides ample space. A shed by the entrance provides useful equipment for glamping like campfire grills, 2-ring gas-powered stoves, a communal fridge and huge chest freezer - which I was tempted to climb into at the hottest times of the day! - and local info. The horsebox shower was highly entertaining and worked a treat and the compost loos were much nicer to use than I'd feared. A short but steep climb uphill takes you to the upper campsite where you can buy a breakfast coffee in the morning for those foolish enough to forget to bring any coffee-making equipment (like us!) and also ice cream from a van at 5pm-ish. The surrounding countryside is so beautiful with pretty little villages and pubs and some lovely views which we cyclists, in particular, got to experience on our ride from SE London and back again. All in all, this was a great camping/glamping experience and I would definitely go back! Thanks to Sasha and her campsite team for making it such a lovely place.

beautiful campsite

Such a lovely place. Spacious and leafy plots and fabulous facilities. Wonderfully well attended. Beautiful walking. Would love to return.

Beautiful campground with heaps of space

We just came back from four days camping at The Sunnyfield and had an excellent time. The pitches were large and spaced apart, the setting was beautiful, the showers and loos were super clean and hygiene considerations for COVID were well explained and provisioned. Staff were all really friendly and welcoming. Would recommend for anyone wanting a family or dog friendly break away!

Perfect relaxed dog friendly campsite

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this campsite, SO MUCH space per pitch. We could confidently let our border collie sit out watching the world (on his lead) from 6am before the tent got too hot without any concern of anybody passing by. The field grass is kept high around each pitch so we woke up to beautiful sounds of crickets. The facilities were clean with compost loos and horse box showers. Would have stayed far longer.

Fantastic stay in most beautiful part of England.

The campsite provides bags of space per pitch. All is lovingly thought out to harmonise with nature. Bathed in golden light amongst the clover and buttercups. Facilities were excellent and, again, befitting the rural feel and ecological ideal. Very quiet and set amongst the most stunning scenery I've ever walked. Recommend the Elham Valley walk. Philip a lovely host.

Ummm. Perfect!

We had a lovely time staying here. Totally concur with other reviewers’ experience in terms of space, loos and showers, cleanliness, and owners’ clear pride and care in what they’re doing. PIzzas were good and the coffee excellent. Had a lovely chat with Philip, one of the owners. So easy to get there and suddenly you feel in the middle of nowhere. There’s a map on the wall of reception showing a local walk which is genuinely amazing: we had a drink in the freshly-opened Bowl at Hastingleigh. Would thoroughly recommend this place and we will be back. Oh, the sunset was out of this world.

fantastic and spacious site

We just had a fantastic weekend at Sunnyfield campsite - cannot recommend it enough! We went with our three children and another family with two kids and their dog. First, the pitches are big, with plenty of open space between them for the kids to run around and play. It is also very clean and we saw toilets and washing up areas being cleaned and checked regularly. Plenty of hand sanitiser in key places! The staff were really friendly and helpful, really welcoming. Rope swings, climbing trees, space to run around - the kids had a blast. We got pizzas at the campsite on the Saturday night, and there was an ice cream van on site on Saturday afternoon. We enjoyed it so much we booked to go back again in a few weeks.

Fabulous experience

We have just returned from a weekend of camping at The Sunnyfield Campsite. Our experience was brilliant, even though the weather wasn’t the best! We appreciated that the owners went the extra mile to provide lots of hand sanitiser and handwashing stations with hot water in light of Covid-19. The pitches were so large and far apart that we didn’t come into close contact with any of the other guests. The shower and toilet facilities were clean and we saw them being checked regularly. There is the option to rent a BBQ grill but we brought our own and had a BBQ in the fire pit provided on the pitch. We also enjoyed pizzas from the pizza oven on the Saturday night. There are some lovely walks from the campsite gate. The campsite is car-free (other than the car park at the entrance) which we felt made things safer especially with lots of children being on the site. A brilliant experience!

Beautiful site and fantastic weekend

My wife and I had an amazing stay in the glamping tents in the top field. The tent was beautiful inside and the bed was so comfortable. Sasha's emails were very helpful with clear instructions that made life very easy. The pitch had a brilliant fire pit with a useful grill we used to cook a nice BBQ. The site has great facilities including the composting loo, horsebox showers that were always hot as well as a washing-up station. To top it all of we pre-ordered pizza's which were delicious, the pizza team were very friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be visiting next summer!

A simply fantastic place for groups with small kids

Sunnyfield really is a fantastic place for groups with small kids. We had 5 families all with 6yr old girls and their various siblings. The team at Sunnyfield couldn’t have done more to make sure we were in a great spot, had everything we needed and felt free to roam and play in this fantastic corner of Kent. Lovingly styled the fields have a real beauty to them, the horse box showers are always hot, the lavender scented long drops each with their own view are brilliant and the ability to have fires on the ground and bring our puppy along, all made for a wonderful 3 days. I couldn’t recommend this place more. We’ve been twice now with different groups, and kids of various ages and it has been great both times. Will definitely be back, keep up the good work! G

Relaxing Fun Stay

Myself and my 7yr old son had a fantastic stay at Sunnyfield. We only booked for one night but 2 or more would have been better as it was too short. The bell tent was an amazing, relaxing, comfortable space. We spent all day outside running around and ate and cooked outside. A real adventure. The surroundings are so peaceful and relaxing. The local shop in the nearest village had everything we needed for supplies. The only thing is for some reason my phone battery got zapped really quickly so next time I’d bring a portable charger.

Lovely weekend in a beautiful setting!

We stayed at Sunnyfield with several other families in the bell tents which were set up beautifully! We loved the mowed pathways between each tent which meant each one had it's own space. It's a lovely peaceful location with gorgeous views over the fields... particularly from the little window in the compost loo! The compost loos and the fantastic big shower in the horse box were all kept clean and fresh with plenty of hot water... putting lavender in the sawdust was a good idea! It was great having the shelter, camp fire and BBQ in the middle to have a shared space where we could cook and sit together. We had a great walk across the fields to a yummy pub lunch, making it back in time for more games and sun-downers under an amazing rainbow! We'd have loved to stay longer -hopefully we can make it back again next summer!

Bug infested and damp bedding.

I read a feature in Fabulous magazine that sounded great. I went on the website saw the the photos and booked for me and my 14 year old son. We couldn't have been more disappointed, the bell tent was full of large bugs and slugs. The fire pit was just ash with a grill plate on a pole over the top. We had to sleep fully clothed and left as soon as we woke up. Maybe the bottom field is better!!! I was so excited before the trip I gave details to all of my friends based on the photos on the website. Would not recommend after seeing it.

Perfect pitch for a lovely weekend

The ideal campsite for a couple or for a family. Everything you need is there (great horsebox showers, which don’t sound as sophisticated as they are - hot water and rainfall shower in one!) and arriving late on a Friday was no problem. Could buy logs for a small fire and crack on..much recommend.

Peaceful setting with charming features

A perfectly simple site and in a great location. Loved the horsebox showers and the campsite coffee shop! Beautiful walks in and around the surrounding area and loads to do within short driving distance.

Perfect summer site

We camped recently as a large group of friends, and had a wonderful time. Beautiful site, with amazing facilities. Pizza's cooked on-site for our Friday night and then a cracking BBQ on the Saturday. Sasha and the team made us feel very welcome indeed. *****

Beautiful campsite

We glamped for the first time and I would heartily recommend it! Was all the amazing fun of camping with zero stress, the bell tents had everything we needed for the weekend. We loved showers in the horse box. Soo cool. Pizza on Friday night was awsome. We came with a big group and The campsite was perfect for giving lots of togetherness, we bbqed and kids had football matches, and we had a huge Olympics. At the same time there was plenty of space between tents so it felt very peaceful and easy. Definitely coming back!

Gorgeous location

Myt family of three camped for a weekend with a school group and it was utterly perfect. Gorgeous surroundings. Lush and natural campsite and excellent facilities. You can park very close to the pitch so you only have to carry your belongings a short distance and they provide wheelbarrows to make that easier. It's the perfect combination of ease of use and a natural environment. We definitely plan to return.

Awesome weekend in a stunning campsite

We recently returned from a group booking at this site. Sasha looked after us all incredibly well, and campers and glampers were all perfectly catered for. The site is just beautiful! The bell tents gave us the comfiest nights camp we have ever had, the horsebox shower was a bonus and we are huge fans of the compost loos. Pizza on Friday night was worth both the walk up the hill and the wait. Torches and kit boxes for the glampers were hugely appreciated. We would have loved to have stayed for longer. Wholeheartedly recommend this campsite for a weekend of getting away from it all.

Perfect weekend escape

Could not have asked for a better weekend. From the emails months before in the planning stage to the welcome on the day Sasha and Philip made our get together run smoothly with minimal stress. They kindly provided us with some top food to save us having to do too much cooking, but the equipment had we wanted to was all we would need. The campsite itself is so peaceful and being able to relax in to the evening around the fire was just what we were after. The double beds in the tent were very comfortable and the toilet and shower facilities were ideal to maintain the countryside camping experience but whilst being pleasant at the same time. Would not hesitate to visit again!

Magical spot for traditional camping

What a stunning find. An excellent campsite with fantastic hosts, quirky facilities and heaps of lovely little features. The kids loved exploring the woods, showering in a horse box, and even the composting loos. Every pitch is separated by wild grass from its neighbouring pitch and comes with a fire pit ready for a memorable campfire. There was even a pizza oven one night.

A magical place

The Sunnyfield is a pretty special place. Sasha and Philip have thought of everything with beautifully decorated tents, warm showers in the horse box, every utensil, plate and pot you could possibly need and a site that has to be seen to be believed. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Fabulous sunnyfield camping

Great spot in some beautiful countryside. Big pitches, nicely laid out. Great to have a fire and cook on fire bowls which have a grill. Nice pizzas. Trips to seaside at folkestone - lower leas park is good for young children. A real gem, glad we went!

The calmness and way the space is laid out

We loved it, the kids loved it- We will be back. Lots of space, very relaxed atmosphere, super clean facilities.

The most perfect and relaxing escape from London

Our stay at Sunnyfield was brilliant! It was easy to get to from London and we felt totally immersed in countryside. A few little touches made this feel really special: wheelbarrows to take your stuff to the pitches; a little 'shop' on site to buy logs and kindling (and the option to rent a firebowl to bbq), filtered drinking water and washing up facilities; gorgeous horse box showers and compost loos; the sound of grazing cows and sheep nearby; woodfired pizzas down at the barn on friday night; a relaxing yoga class on saturday morning. The people we encountered on the site were absolutely lovely and friendly. There's plenty of shade which made camping on a very hot weekend absolutely fine. We were a group of 9 adults and although this is a family friendly campsite, didn't feel encumbered by kids as the pitches are really spread out. Sitting around the campfire toasting marshmallows until the wee hours of the morning was magical!

Proper beautiful rural spot - just how camping should be

We loved the Sunnyfield. A beautiful peaceful place with gorgeous long grass, loads of space for the kids to run, and a fabulous pizza oven. The kids thought the composting toilets were genius, and loved the hot shower in a horse box. They also said that the pizzas were categorically the best they’d ever tasted. And Philip made 130 of them the night we were there. It was an hours’ easy drive from Greenwich and a real pleasure to do the last few miles to the campsite, as the countryside is stunning. We’ll definitely be back.

Great vibes at The Sunny Field

We loved the chilled vibe and lovely tall grass setting. The paths, barrows and protected cosiness were perfect for us. The hot showers were awesome and the fact that they were located in a converted horse box was super stylish. Very easy going and a great place to take a breathe and put the breaks on.

Fantastic weekend

We hired the Orchard out for a private party and couldn't have asked for a better weekend. The bell tents were immaculate, the food was delicious and the owners Sasha & Phillip were very welcoming. Fun had by all - adults and children alike. All helped of course by this incredible weather.

simple, beautiful campsite

A short distance from London, it was amazing to escape the summer heat and arrive to this idyllic campsite. Pitches are really generous and and really nicely laid out, each one carved out of long grass including a short winding path to it. There are a few different areas within the campsite - the large 'top field' (where we were), a smaller field on a slope adjoining the 'top field' and the orchard (closest to the farmhouse). The beauty of this campsite is its simplicity. We loved the horse box showers and getting our dinner from the pizza oven (which were delicious). Sasha and Phillip (and their children) are very friendly and helpful and have achieved something great here! We enjoyed it so much that we rebooked for the next weekend on the car journey home. Highly recommend.

Wow! What a wonderfully relaxing weekend just gone at Sunnyfield. Great pitch on a superb site in a beautiful area of Kent. Sasha and Philip offered the best hospitality over our 2 night stay including the football a bar and pizza on Saturday night. Both the wife, dog and I feel suitably relaxed for a busy week ahead . Many thanks. We will be back. See you again soon. Andy, Heidi and Harley the Yorkie.

Great campsite and ideal for couples or younger children

This is a beautiful campsite with private plots across a meadow. If you have young children this is an ideal site. However the children we were with (aged 8-11) did not like the lack of a field to play cricket/football, or woods or areas to explore, so they did not love the site. For a family with young children, or adults who want some beautiful scenery, this is a perfect site. But I would not recommend it for groups with older children. One more thing to add, the owners were quite grumpy and unwelcoming in the cafe, despite suggesting people go there.

Awesome bank holiday weekend

Would we come again? Without a doubt. We stayed in the Orchard and the first thing you notice with The Sunnyfield is the generous pitches. You have a decent area dedicated to your tent, separated from your neighbours by meadow style grass with plenty of room for a fire. The horse box shower was great - hot water - and the toilets, wash up area were clean and no queues. Straight from the campsite were some woods to explore, public paths past fields and forest trails to bike ride through. We also took advantage of the wood fired pizzas on the Sunday night, hits all round with the family. Very relaxing and comfortable.

Fantastic 40th!

I invited 36 of my favourite family and friends to celebrate my birthday glamping at Sunnyfield. We had the most fantastic weekend. The site is great for a group and in a beautiful location. The tents were thoughtfully decorated and the shower and toilets all clean and worked well. Sasha and Phil made us delicious breakfasts and dinner on Saturday night and were really helpful with advice about what to do during the day. We rented their army tent for communal space which acted as good base for us all to hang out in. Lovely campfires, lots of safe space for the kids and dogs - and we were even lucky to have a sunny weekend. Couldn't have been better!

A windy weekend

My sister, my dog and i had a lovely long weekend at the Sunnyfield. The weather forecast was changeable but we went anyway and had the whole place to ourselves for the most part. The facilities were clean and the view across the field from the loo was lovely! The pitches are large and well spaced out. Unfortunately the gazebo didn't survive the last very windy night but worse things happen at sea. As we went at the end of the season and were alone, meals and the shop were not open but Phillip kindly provided some butane gas, when we ran out and we had catered for all our food needs anyway.

Perfect weekend at the Sunnyfield

We hired the whole site for a weekend for a festival wedding, and it was absolutely fantastic. Sasha and Phil are a lovely team, who pulled out all the stops to impress our guests from all over the world, with pizza, breakfasts and a variety of tents all set up. The site itself is wonderful, and the glamping tents come with everything you need for a relaxing weekend in the country, or a manic wedding in the country - if you're brave enough. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Brilliant stay

We had a brilliant stay at Sunny Field. Loads of space, great amenities and brilliant food down at the farm. The area itself feels incredibly rural - somehow softer and less manicured than even neighboring parts of Kent. Our 4yr old loved it, and made a tonne of friends within minutes, and our enormous labradoodle loved all the attention she got too. Highly recommended.

A gem of a camp site

We have just returned from a weekend at Sunnyfield with our two small children and dog and had the best time! Beautiful site and good basic amenities. The farm was a lovely bonus and the food put on in the evenings was delicious. A real find! We will be back!

We LOVE Sunnyfield

A large group of families from our school camped this weekend at Sunnyfield. It was brilliant. Really easy going and relaxed, the weather helped of course! Phil made sure our group were all camped together in a great spot and we had everything we needed. The loos were clean and the horse box showers heavenly! We had breakfast in the barn on Sunday when our food supplies got low. Thanks Sasha and Phil for making it a really memorable weekend for us all. This is a really special place and we loved the views, the freedom, the swing...perfect for kids. We are definitely coming back soon.

A Spacious Field with Lots of Room

We were lucky enough to have spent the Bank Holiday weekend here at the end of May. It's a lovely spacious field with room for the kids to explore (run wild) but you can also keep an eye on them. There are a few things I wish I'd understood before we went. The campsite in essentially on two sites. A big sunny field at the top of the hill with a lower mezzanine field too and then down the hill is their site with pre-erected bell tents. The site down the hill is also where they serve the pizza's, breakfasts, etc from the barn. It's quite a stroll up the hill on the way back but there is a swing for the kids half way up, but if you're not steady on your feet you may opt to drive down. It appears to be the main base down the hill. PITCH The pitches are huge, we've never stayed on such a spacious pitch, even the spaces between pitches were huge. They were also really flat, the underneath of our tent has never been so clean to pack away! We had a lovely spot in the lower level of the top field, which meant we had shade from about 6pm, it was hot so this was welcomed. Some of the pitches have a fire pit dug into them, but it's not clear how to secure one of these, I'd recommend to ask when booking, our neighbours had one and it was nice to sit around in the evening, they also sell dry logs for you to burn. If we booked again I'd go for a pitch on this lower level again but on the side closer to the top level as they get the evening sun and the morning shade. It does however involved pushing all your camping gear up hill on the way out, a small price to pay. They also provide wheel barrows to use. If you go with friends they give you one of the bigger pitches so you be together too. FACILITIES There were four compost loos and I only had to queue once, but they did smell a little as it got really hot. But they were reasonably clean and all apart from once were fully stocked with loo roll. There were also two converted horse trailer showers in the top field, they were really roomy and mostly warm, you just had to get the temperature right, the kids loved this! There was a pool on the site at the bottom of the hill but it was unclear if we could use it or not? I've seen that other review have said they used it but it wasn't offered to us. FOOD The pizzas were amazing, a choice of two sauces and up to three toppings. I'd highly recommend booking in for these on the Saturday night. I'd also suggest taking bottle of wine down with you and making the most of the wait while they're freshly cook. There are trestle tables set up down there. I heard about the breakfasts towards the end of our stay but we were happy being self sufficient. It would be lovely if they offered a to-tent delivery service in future too :) (the husband said it was the best pizza he's ever had!) SHOP We didn't make full use of the shop either as we were unsure when it was open, it seemed to be open late afternoon and offered some cool drinks and some sweets for the kids. I loved that this was a family business and the kids were roped in to help run the shop. We used the Tesco in Folkstone or Ashford to top up, both only about 10min drive in total. PUBS We went to the Five Bells in Braebourne - it's amazing for lunch/dinner and you must make time to visit and only 5-7mins from the campsite by car, you can't book so get there early. If you fancy a civil brunch take a drive into Canterbury and check out the Goods Shed (you need to get there by 10.30am on a Sunday) but their bubble and squeak is legendary. You can also top up on fresh produce there. We also went to Whitstable which isn't too far and had lunch at The Lobster Shack. Our neighbours raved about the kids park in Folkestone too but we didn't get a chance to visit. The owners were nice and friendly and came round and spot to every pitch on the Sunday night to see how everyones stay was going, which I thought was a nice touch. We'd love to go again and a bonus was no phone signal what-so-ever so it forces you to switch off.

Geweldige camping

Fun weekend

We had a lovely weekend at the end of July at The Sunny Field. We had a tent mishap on the first night but much to our appreciation, Sasha came to our rescue! We were quickly set up in a beautiful bell tent. The site was really nice. The children had a lovely time playing in the meadow and climbing on the tree stump in the centre of the field, which was a bit of a meeting point for lots of the children. We would love to return next year. Thanks so much again Sasha for your hospitality and help!

Fantastic camp site!

We had a really lovely stay at the The Sunny Field camp site. There is a fantastic amount of space and privacy, the large pitches surrounded by meadow grasses and flowers. We were down in the orchard, with lovely views out across the surrounding fields. We've been camping regularly since we were young and this is one of the first campsites in a long time that has taken be back completely to what it used to feel like as a child, the beautiful simplicity. For me, a perfect camp site!
Aug 10, 2016 by OllyP

We have been camping for over 20 years now, all over the world and Sunnyfield has to be one of the best camp we've stayed at. It's all we want on a camping weekend, a beautiful field, wild flowers and long grass, the closest you could get to wild camping but with showers and toilets. The showers are a perfect mix of rustic and chic. It could just have been a standard shower in a horse box, but no, the owners obviously have an eye for design, the retro basin and the fairy lights make it a lovely experience you want to talk about. They also have a quaint little farm shop in a trailer on site. The allocated pitch is big and there is a lot of space (long grass) between you and the next pitch. Our daughter loved The Tree! it seems all the kids loved it, it was kind of the communal area where parents would meet, talk about their day and chat of what they thought about The Sunny Field (all very positive!) We were lucky with the weather and the sun light at sunset is magical. All in all a great weekend, in fact so great that we already booked to go back in 2 weeks time.

Best Campsite Ever

We are seasoned tent campers who have camped all over the world; however we have never glamped before.  After a discussion with some non-camper friends, we decided to find a campsite that would accommodate for all our needs (camping and glamping).  We searched all around the greater London area and were lucky enough to stumble across The Sunny Field.  Our requirements were ever changing (8 families) and Sasha and Phil were extremely accommodating.  One would even say they bent over backwards to meet all of our needs.  In the end, we all decided to glamp and what an amazing experience it was!

The site was stunning.  The perfect space for children to safely frolic through the grass and create a world of their own.  A fantastic layout for us to set up our "kitchen" area (they provided an Indian tent for us at an additional cost).  And finally, a wonderful spot for our campfire where we could be close enough to the children after bedtime; yet far enough away not to wake them...

The bell tents were gorgeous and warm (it was about 8-10 degrees at night) and stocked with anything & everything you would ever need to camp.  I must say, I may never tent camp again after staying in their bell tents...  :-)

I can't say enough positive things about The Sunny Field. Sasha, Phil and their kids have done an incredible job with their campsite.  We will definitely be going back at least once (maybe even twice?) next year.

PS - Even their pizzas are amazing!!

A lovely weekend

This was an amazing place to spend a weekend for my birthday. Sasha and Phil were accommodating and flexible in the run up to the weekend, and while we were there. The setting is beautiful - small pitches mown into longer grass, and surrounded by the downs. Great recommendation for a walk to a pub (with an owl). Highly recommended. Thank you. Guy

Great weekend!

We had the whole site to ourselves, 15 adults, 16 children! We had an absolutely brilliant time, the site had everything you could want and Sasha and Phil were just fantastic. We arrived to see all of the tents beautifully set up and had all that we needed. The children had an ball and the site has lots of areas for them to run around and have fun out of harms way. we will be back next year for sure! Thank you Sasha and Phil. Rufus

We arrived on a blustery, rainy and horrible day and it stayed cold and damp for most of the weekend, but despite that we had a fabulous time in this idyllic spot. Spacious tents and comfortably and prettily decked out, plenty of privacy as tents so far apart, lovely food cooked by the hosts on Saturday night, and a warm welcome from Sasha and Philip and their children. We'll be back!

A brilliant weekend break!

We visited The Sunny Field last weekend with friends and had the most brilliant time. Sasha and Phil were so welcoming and ensured we had everything set up ok and all the information we needed. It's a wonderful part of the world with fantastic walks - with great country pubs along the way! Thanks very much, we look forward to visiting again!

Overpriced for what it is

Beautiful field & great location but essentially a very basic site & disorganised owners. Just returned after late May BH. Only one shower on site, which kept not working, often no loo paper in the toilets & the fire wood they sold was so green it didn't burn. People were buying it from the garage at the top of the road. Also cars not allowed on field to unload & pack up, yet campervans are allowed on the field? Wheelbarrows are supplied to cart gear but not enough of them. Not good enough for £90 for three nights! Not only that, but when we paid the owner the cash balance he told those of us that didn't have the right money that he didn't have change, so they paid over the odds!

Responce from campsite owner:

Dear Suzy
Thanks so much for your comments. We openly welcome all comments good and bad although sad as never had feedback like this before.
It was our opening weekend in the top field and we had a few hiccups. We weren’t as ready as we would have liked to have been.
To address your points a boiler in the 2nd horse-box shower unfortunately went kaputt and impossible to get a replacement over the bank holiday weekend. We did offer an additional 2 showers at the house for everyone.
Logs Logs Logs! thanks again for making us aware of the logs not burning. I have been using this log man for three years and this was the first batch to be like this – you'll be glad to know that batch has now been returned and new wood has taken its place – once again hard to rectify over the weekend but most other campers I went round and spoke too felt that the free extra kindling given really helped to get the fire roaring.
Cars – We have always been very proud and clear about the fact we are a car free campsite making it a safer place for kids to explore without worry. We do have three designated camper van spaces and they need to get in and out.
Wheelbarrows – You are right about there not being enough in the wheelbarrow station – I do have quite a lot of barrows but I know they were in high demand as I spent most of the weekend retrieving them from kids who appeared to be using them for Ben Hur style races and paddling pools!!!
Finally I must take exception to being perceived as not giving you change. As I remember you didn't have any money when everyone else paid initially but promised to pay later. It was only when I saw you driving your car across the campsite that I asked if you could settle the outstanding amount, I did offer to get the £1.50 change but you said not to worry.
Thanks again for visiting and really sorry we didn't meet your expectations we try to run a simple campsite but I guess it wasn't what you were after.

And what a sunny field!

I booked this about 4 weeks in advance for a week end break from the stresses of city life with my 2 kids ages 5 and 7. This was our first time 'glamping' as wanted to arrive after a long drive and just have it all there waiting and easy, and mostly for a good nights sleep! We arrived on the hottest week end of the year so far and were the first to arrive so they were still perfecting the bell tent with decorations and it didn't let us down.

My son loved the dinosaurs and daughter loved the books left for us, but best of all was the trampoline, I hardly saw my kids..(all within sight though) the bouncing exhausted them and they were full of joy.The little added details of hot water bottles,( it got chilly at night so this was heaven) a gas stove which I cooked everything on including toast, and lamps for the dark starry nights were well thought out. The campfire and toasting marshmallows won't be forgotten. The pitches are far enough apart that you feel secluded and not on top of the other campers and very quiet.

Went for a lovely walk through the fields behind the site, and picked loads of wild garlic for pesto, which was delish! Also took a drive to a lovely pub called 'The Tiger' great food and they let the kids play in the field next door, very friendly place.

And its only going to get better there I imagine as still improving every day when we were there getting compost loos up and running, maybe another shower would have been good but I think this is in the pipeline. I didn't mind as truly relaxed and didn't follow my clock for the first time and ages. Gorgeous spot.

We will be back.

A great weekend

This is an excellent campsite. Pretty basic but tasteful and pretty. Helpful owners, beautiful scenery and really spacious pitches. Highly recomended.

May 10, 2016 by maria

We had a great time here despite the weather in June last year. The pitches are sort of marked out which surprised us a little but actually made things easy due to long grass and overall the site retained more beauty and tranquility. This site is large and simple but more than adequate.  It really would be a sunny field but for us it was a wet field- although the rain did not cause any problem despite the site being so exposed. It's a trek to the shower but it's lovely. The washing up facilities were fine as long as it's not raining as it's all open air. The fact that the water was hit was a real bonus. The toilet is fine  too and not smelly as it's so high up. We all got used to it fairly quickly. The owners were very friendly and informative and they kindly dropped off logs every night.  We would go back happily!

A tardy review

We stayed at the sunny field in July - it was lovely! Greeted upon arrival by Sasha and Philips very friendly children who showed us to our pitch and gave us very useful information about the area. The field itself was beautiful and very peaceful and all the pitches were separated by the long grass which gave us a nice bit of privacy in the evenings around a lovely fire. Will definitely visit again!

40th Campsite bash

Just got to say thanks Sasha and Phil for a fantastic weekend. We had a blast celebrating my 40th birthday with my nearest and dearest, lots of kids, grannies and friends from far and wide. The Sunnyfield is so beautiful and a perfect setting for a gathering. We exclusively hired the fields and had a own mini festival with kids running around freely, legs of lamb on the bbq and a big roaring fire with bales in the evening. The indian tent was beautiful and simply decorated with trestle tables and benches fit for a banquet and some dancing under the stars. It was easy to organise something relatively so simple in a meadow and the weekend just flew away with much love and fun and some good old fashioned camping. Thank you again, it is a very special place.

Absolute bliss

We stayed in August for 3 nights with our family including sons, girlfriends, grandchildren and sister and brother-in-law and our dog.  Sasha was very helpful with our booking and we had three pitches in the lower field, just off the main field. If you prefer to be in the big main field then mention this when you book.  All the pitches were very large and very well spread out.  Just perfect.  We had room for a badminton  'court' on ours. There are trolleys/wheelbarrows to move your camping gear to your pitch.  The little ones loved the trampoline and tree swing, a nice touch.  Sasha's son came round with logs to purchase for the fire pit.  They also set up the cinema for us on a day of torrential rain and we all enjoyed watching Paddington.  The toilets were clean - don't be put off by compost toilets because they smell less than normal toilets. We have stayed at other sites with compost toilets and we'd rather have  these. The horse box shower was amazing and very quaint.  There were plenty of standpipes with fresh water and a washing up station with warm water.  We went to Tankerton beach and Whitstable for a day out but other than that we were happy to spend time at the site.  We had a day of hot sun and rain the rest of our stay which didn't spoil a wonderful and memorable time at Sunny Field.  We will be back!

Wonderful campsite

Long weekend at Sunny Fields campsite in the Kent Downs. Outstanding site, friendly welcome, beautiful setting - massive field, kids roaming free, going on adventures. Quite wonderful

Stayed here a few weeks back with the Mrs and the 2 kids. It's a truly special place and we had a wonderful weekend. The site is stunning and as everyone gets their own dedicated pitch site its truly relaxing. The facilities are basic but charming and are more than enough. The shower in the horsebox is amazing! Enjoy.

Gorgeous neverland for kids and adults

We loved camping here - waist high grass with avenues to the pitches that kids can happily run up and down and still be in sight, fire pits and ample space between pitches so you can feel at ease in your own spot. Amenities are well thought out and the owners are extremely welcoming. We'll definitely be back again.

Peaceful campsite

We have just spent the weekend camping at The Sunny Field.  What a fabulous campsite! The field is beautiful and the sunset's were stunning! We really enjoyed our stay there and our children loved running around the field.  Its a very peaceful, relaxed place and we would love to go back there again!  A truly wonderful weekend! Thank you!

Big man, small tent, epic fire pit.

Just came back from my second stay at this campsite.

It is easily my favourite in the South of England.

Beautiful fields with long grass, spacious pitches that give you enough privacy especially with the long grass. The couple who run the campsite are so friendly and laid back, just nice people.

Great facilities with everything you need.

Perfect vibe.

The surrounding countryside is just breathtaking.

Nice warm shower in a clean very well done out horse box, very surprised at how well it worked to be honest.

They have two young boys who you can buy wood and stuff for your campfire, they can even run little errands for you for a few quid.

They will also help get all your stuff  from your car to your pitch for free, which was a nice touch after a long car journey and a hard week slogging it out in the city.

You have Canterbury very close and whitsable was 30 minutes away.

Beaches everywhere.

Wish I owned a campsite like this! What a great way of life. 👌🏽

A very sunny field!

What an amazing location with such wonderful, spread out pitches.

The children could roam about in total safety and return at feeding time.

Great suggestions regarding local pubs and beaches, we even inadvertently stumbled upon a game of cricket up the road, Australia vs Kent no less!

Thanks to Sasha and Philip for making us feel so welcome and relaxed from the moment we arrived.

Just Perfect

If only all campsites were like this...

We stayed in the newly planted orchard and probably had the best three days camping we've ever experienced. If we could design the perfect site it would probably look and function a lot like this one. The pitches are cut out of the longer meadow grass and so nicely spaced there's no danger of feeling on top of each other. The peace and quiet and beautiful views were exactly what we were hoping for and Sasha and Phillip couldn't do more to make our stay more enjoyable. We had an evening walk to an amazing pub with great food and drink, a trip to the coast for a great fresh seafood lunch and a visit to beautiful Canterbury. The rest of the time it was a pleasure to just sit in the orchard with our dogs and relax in such a beautiful environment. This is a campsite that allows you to switch off and remind what camping is all about, getting away from it all and enjoying the outdoors.

Very pleased we've found the Sunny Field and from now on this will be the site that all others are judged against, it really couldn't be better.

Perfectly Pitched

We have just returned from a weekend on The Sunny Field and would recommend it highly.  The field itself is glorious and pitches are very generously spaced, with campfires allowed,  so it is almost wild camping - but with facilities!  The owners could not be more helpful, delivering logs and advice even to late arrivals.  We hope to go back.

I absolutely loved this site! It is so back to basic but you still have all you need... A warm shower and excellent toilet...

Loved the fact that grass was long and left wild... We will definitely come back.

Only an hour from SE London

We had a gorgeous weekend with friends at The Sunny Field. The children roamed the wildflower meadow, bounced on the trampoline and swung on the swing beneath the large oak tree while the adults sat in the sunshine and relaxed by the camp fire. Canterbury is very close by for a daytrip or a lovely day at the beach at Dymchurch. We had a wonderful time and will definitely be back.

we'll be back!

This is a great find. We arrived at the wildflower meadow on a Friday evening, with a warm welcome, a choice of beautiful pitches, got the campfire lit, basked in the evening sunlight, children off in the long grass, peaceful, this is what we came for. Phil and Sasha are very helpful, keen to ensure that we had everything we needed, advice on where to eat/ drink/ visit (great countryside), and above all they had an ancient and enormous pig called Speeedy (kids were fascinated). Highly recommended, we'll definitely be back.

Great camping

What a great weekend we've had at The Sunny Field. 3 families undertake an annual camp weekend and to date they have all been very successful.  It was our first visit to The Sunny Field and it didn't disappoint.  The meadow style pitches in the Orchard were beautiful, the weather held and we had a great time exploring the countryside and letting the kids enjoy the great outdoors. Facilities, whilst straightforward, were clean and in good working order.  Being able to have a fire is the icing on the cake.  Sasha and Phil were great hosts always happy to help and share their knowledge.  We would highly recommend this site.

Perfect weekend

I recently visited this beautiful spot for a long weekend! We had an amazing time and will definitely be back. We were greeted with a lovely pot of wild garlic pesto and given a great choice of pitch. It was blissfully peaceful the whole weekend, even as it got busier with more campers, the pitches are kept to a minimum and not too close, so you never feel intruded upon. We took long and short walks around the beautiful countryside, banks of wild garlic, the end of the bluebells and big fields of rape seed made for wonderful scenery! I can't recommend staying here enough!

Perfect Camping

We spent three days camping at Sunny Field over the last Bank Holiday in May. We were greeted by Sasha who gave us our choice of pitches (all which were lovely) and also a pot of wild pesto which was gratefully added to the evening's meal. Each pitch has so much space that privacy is ensured as well as a fire pit which always makes for perfect camping.

The area is fantastic with much to do. We walked along the North Downs Way to Wye with fantastic views over the Downs. There are several nice pubs in the area if that is your thing.

Trollies were provided to carry kit to our pitch as no cars are allowed on site which made for a relaxing atmosphere. The shower in the farmhouse was lovely.

This is certainly how we think campsites should be and we hope to be back again next year.

The BEST campsite in the world!

We stayed for 2 nights over the last May bank holiday and honestly, this sunny meadow was truly the very best campsite we've ever stayed at! It's 2 big fields with so much space that even on their busiest weekend we felt like we had the place to ourselves. It's wild and overgrown round the edges, you can have fires, the smell of wild garlic drifts through the air and they even have a swimming pool (but back at the main house, a few mins walk down the hill away from the camping)!

The site is in the middle of nowhere, nestled deep in the North Downs, but yet you can be there in under an hour from London by train. Sasha even picked us up from the nearest station so our journey to get to the back of beyond couldn't have been easier.

I'm scared of shouting too loudly about this site as we'd love to keep it a secret, but Sasha and Phil made us feel so welcome and went to such an effort that we want to share the Sunny Field love!

Thanks guys and we'll be back!

Fantastic, spacious camping

We stayed for 3 days at Sunny Field with our two children and dog and had a relaxing, amazing time - it really is back to nature and we loved it!  We received a very warm welcome on our arrival from Sasha including pots of wild garlic pesto.  She had allocated us three fantastic pitches next to our friends in the corner of the large meadow.  It was very safe and our children were able to roam freely in the meadow and down the hill to visit Speedy the very friendly pig. There is lots of room between pitches with paths cut between the long meadow grass and buttercups.  The fire-pit at each pitch was a very welcome addition and the children toasted marshmallows around the campfire.  We had lovely weather for the majority of our trip but when it did rain the cinema barn down at the farm was the ideal distraction.  A really lovely camping experience - good for the soul!  Thank you to Sasha and her family for creating a very special place.

Lovely place - lovely people

We have just returned from a peaceful weekend at The Sunny Field.  Peaceful because there is loads of space between pitches, no rowdy groups and a big open sunny field filled with kids flying kites amongst the flowers.  But the thing that made it truly special was the perfect hosts.  They were friendly, informative and went out of their way to make sure that we were happy, including giving us a small pot of wild garlic pesto, checking our van hadn't broken down - and allowing our kids to hover around Speedy the pig for as long as they wanted!  We would highly recommend this campsite to anyone.

Best place ever

Had the most wonderful time at Sunny Field over the Bank Holiday weekend - was expecting the usual UK  weather but it was glorious, just as the site says! The site is just what I was looking forward to - the pitches were widely spread with lovely trees surrounding it and everyone seemed so happy to be there. It really felt like in the middle of nowhere - so quiet & peaceful - all I could hear was the crackling of the fires from the other pitches. So can't wait to return.

Off the beaten track

Just got back from three nights camping at The Sunny Field, our first camping trip with our two children. We had a lovely time albeit a bit damp! The location is perfect, a field in the middle of no where. Basic provisions but that was fine with us - although could've done with a washing up station a bit closer. I think its worth pointing out that although the field is well away from roads, a lovely twisty drive to get there, we could still hear what I presume was the M20 and seemed to be below a flightpath as we could hear planes quite loudly all night. Of course there's nothing that can be done about this but I just think it's worth pointing out in case people are looking for a truely naturally silent location.

Very nice camping

We stayed on the sunny field for three wonderful nights. We loved the fact that you have so much space of your own but that if you want to you can easily to talk to anyone you like. Loved the firepit. Extremely nice people!

I didn't mind that the loo's and the shower were a bit basic, although I do hope that in the future the loo's will become a bit more loo like :)

Great site

Our three families went together to Sunny Field. Unfortunately for us, and nothing to do with the site, it wasn't always very sunny - we would still highly recommend it though! It's set in beautiful countryside, it is peaceful, relaxing and the perfect place to take children and dogs. The five children had a brilliant time, they were off playing on the swings, getting muddy and generally doing all the things children do when let loose in a natural environment.  The two dogs were able to roam freely. There are big gaps between tents so they didn't bother anybody else and several other tents had dogs too. We took trips to Folkestone and Broadstairs to the beaches and had a wonderful Sunday lunch at the Tiger Inn in Stowting which Sasha recommended to us. She and Phil couldn't have been more helpful, putting up with our questions beforehand and us changing our minds about how long we were staying. They even let us stay in one of the bell tents when our tent leaked in the heavy rain which was so kind.  They also provide hot croissants and firewood if you ask.  The shower is a bit of a trek, but I really enjoyed strolling through a couple of fields in the morning and meeting Speedy the pig on the way.  It is a steep walk back though.  There are only two portable toilets and a cold water tap.  If you want a bit more luxury this might not be the site for you, but if you want a lovely chilled out place to stay where you are made to feel really welcome do try Sunny Field!

Sunny Cool Camping

Thanks again Philip for a great stay at Sunny Fields.  Kids ran feral. Lots of space to chill out. Campfires and fireside songs. Logs, warm croissants & jam for breakfast and helpful onsite logistics :-) Basic and very friendly, even the pig!  This is what cool camping is all about. We loved it and will be back for sure! A must for any cool camper, caravaner, campervaner!

We are missing it already

We loved our three night stay here. The site is beautiful and peaceful - we were hardly aware of the other campers. The sun shone on us til bedtime and then we had shade in the morning in the corner of the field. Dungeness and The Warren beach in Folkestone were a treat but we really looked forward to coming back in the late afternoon. Phil was really helpful - it was lucky he warned us of rain on the final morning so that we could do most of our packing the night before. We will definitely return - thank you so much!

Perfectly simple camping

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights in our VW and it wasn't long enough. Phil and his family are very warm hosts, eager to help make your stay as comfortable as possible. Having said that if you are of the white-picket-fence-fully-serviced school of camping you won't find that here and thankfully so! The portaloos are clean and the shower hot and most importantly the field is beautiful and the pitches are very generously sized. I'll be back in a flash to enjoy the peace, quiet and sunshine (even with children running around) and some of Phil's elderflower cordial and croissants. We went swimming off The Warren and enjoyed a mountain of oysters at Whitstable's Wheeler's Oyster Bar. Long may The Sunny Field reign!

This beautiful site will stay in our hearts forever

Dear Family of the sunny Field Campsite! One week ago we left your site, on which we spent 8 delightful nights. The sun was out many many times indeed, so the name matches completely. We truly believe that this is a sacred place to be and we loved it from the first moment. There was a good vibe on the field and also between the camping peolple, we had some nice contacts. Olga, our youngest one, loved the swing in the beautiful oak tree next to our pitch ( thank you mother nature and Phil for arranging this!). If I go back in my mind, I can still see the long grass sweeping and I can hear the wood cracking in the campfire whilest watching the red sun going down. Wonderful memories and breathtaking scenery: we are happy to know your secret garden. Thanks for all your help at the site, you made us feel very welcome, we appreciated that very much. Our very large pitch with the long grass around gave a secluded atmosphere. For one week it was our home and we will keep it in our hearts forever. We will certainly visit you again if we are visiting your beautiful area in the future. Keep up the good work and many sunny days to you. Groetjes van Lauran, Marjolein, Maggy en Olga uit Leiden (Holland)

Heaven on Earth

I agree with English Apple... I am hesitant to write a review as I too would like to keep this slice of heaven on earth a secret.  Thank you Sasha and Phil for your wonderful camp site that you have created. The natural beauty of the fields plus the camp fire and swings for the children - we loved the croissants and homemade strawberry jam.  There's loads to do in the area and it was such a wonderful break for my family and I from the relentness pace of city life.  We will definitely be returning next year.

great hills

Hi Sasha, just to say thanks again for that couple of nights we stayed at Sunny Field a few days ago. Great place! Keep up the good work: all those caravaning people don't know what it's all about ... stick to the tent people ;-)

Sunny field heaven

A lovely campsite, well worth a visit if you want a retreat from the busyness of everyday. Pitches were well spaced and felt very private, owners and campers very friendly, with plenty of space for our 3 boys to run and play in safety. Facilities are basic, but clean and adequate, and the use of the pool was a real bonus. For those who like to get away from it all this is perfect. Fires at night, elderflower cordial, and croissants, as well as a very friendly pig!

The view from the tent was blue sky, trees and long grass, plus the occasional child running and screaming with delight. This is their first year with campers at sunny field, and I expect there will be many more, book soon so as not to miss the laid back feeling of the place.

A Warm Kent Welcome

We've just returned from a weekend at Sunny Field and we are all totally in love with the site. Philip, Sasha and all of their fmily made us feel very welcome and we adored the elderflower juice; thank you.

The campsite was perfect; quiet and set in a beautiful meadow and with so much space between pitches that you'd often think you were on your own. We were fortunate to have glorious sunshine on our visit and the place was alive with wildlife - the perfect reminder of what the English country side should be (not a caravan or electrical hook-up in sight).

The facilities are basic but spotlessly clean and the play area was a real treat for our children. Nothing fancy but who can resist a swing or game of swingball. The absolute stealer of the show was however that we could go down the hill to the swimming pool (2 sessions a day) which was so, so lovely.

The site is only a short ride into Folkestone where we went for a fish and chip lunch; but we couldn't wait to get back to the campsite for some more quiet family fun.

I am loathed to write this review because I want to keep it as a secret... but Philip and Sasha deserve to be recognised as their site is a wonderful get away spot.

Simple and natural. Bliss!

Just stayed here last Sat night for our first camp of the year. Only about 1 hr 15 mins from South London which is great. Love the big open space with long grass and the pitches just cut into the grass. Simple but perfect. Can have fires, people were friendly, the portable loo was clean, rubbish facilities close by. The owners were lovely and even brought us a bottle of their homemade elderflower cordial. Would highly recommend for a short camp if you want something natural.

Totally Fab

Having visited for 2 nights with hubby, dog & vw camper, I hesitate when writing this review as secretly I want to keep this truly special place a secret.  Yet that really wouldn't be fair to my fellow cool campers nor to the delightful owners Sasha and Philip who made very effort to make us feel welcome. The sunny field is magical, the spacious meadow is like no other campsite we have been to before, complete tranquility with just the sound of the neighbouring sheep and the distant yet happy buzz of fellow campers and a huge, huge pitch cut into the long meadow grass.  Yes the amenities are basic but spotlessly clean and more than adequate for our 2 night stay. We didn't try the pool but it's a delightfully unexpected treat in the beautifully rural landscape. We highly recommend a wonderful pub local gastro pub THE TIGER, with amazing vegetarian food on the menu. Also don't leave without tasting the delicious Kent grown fruit & vegetables from local farm shops and even locally grown & brewed wine from vineyard nearby.  Rain or shine this part of Kent is a must see.

Rainy but Sunny weekend away....

Very warm welcome from Sasha and her family, all good no nonsense stuff. The field is situated up a hill from the farm and is a beautiful meadow, the pitches are extremely well distributed and long meadow grass separates you from your neighbour (what a great idea!). The pool is also proper stuff, probably built in the 70's but well worth a dip, all good fun. Sasha and her family made us feel right at home and all kid's ended up swimming together. Speedy the pig is fast becoming a legend, I don't know many but that is one friendly pig. Definately visit again, dogs no problem and we all had the best weekend waking up off the beaten track. Thank you all, see you again soon!

Super cool camping

We stayed for 3 nights (2 of us and our 2 kids) at the beginning of July and wished we could stay for longer!

This is truly special camp-site! Owners Sasha and Philip are lovely helpful and made us feel very welcome.

The sunny field is very spacious and beautiful camp site, pitches are very big and cut into the long meadow grass, there is a very nice distance between pitches, we had neighbours on the pitch next to us and we could not even see them!  Facilities on the field are basic but very clean, a short walk to the house for more ‘home like’ facilities like washing up station fantastic hot shower flushable loo and a pool which was great fun on warm days (we didn't go into the main pool just the small peddling as we got young children). We had all sorts of weather boiling hot days and a torrential rain! It rained a lot but as the ground is so soft and grassy there was absolutely no mud and all was dry in the morning!

Great local gastro pub (The Tiger, and The Five Bells). There is a petrol station minutes’ drive from the site for all the basics. And a very short drive to Canterbury, Folkstone and lovely local beaches

This part of Kent is absolutely beautiful! It was lovely to discovery as well as this fantastic camp-site! Defiantly worth a visit before it gets too busy!

We stayed here for 3 nights (4/5/6 of July 2014). It was one of the most peaceful places I've ever been. I never realised there was such tranquility in the North Downs. It really did feel miles from anywhere, but in reality it is very convenient for visiting all of the many attractions in the area. Don't expect luxury though. This is a new campsite and it lacks the facilities that some people expect. But to compensate, we had a large field all to ourselves, a great campfire, and the stars above - actually it did rain one night but that's all part of the fun. The owner is very helpful and he does plan to install some basic facilities in the near future, but for the moment this is as close to wild camping as you can get in the SE of England - and all the better for it. So thanks Phil (the owner), for a great weekend!

Heaven in Kent

Only one and a half hours away from London, tucked away, private, peaceful and heavenly. We just loved how totally immersed in nature we were – waking up from a deep sleep to the birds and flowers and butterflies was simply heavenly. There was no one else there when we went but even if there were I doubt you'd see them, the fields are huge and feel very private. Also the lay of the land, and how tall the grass is, means that you probably wouldn't see tents in other pitches. We set up our fire very easily and had the most amazing evening under the stars, after a delicious dinner at a pub nearby (forgotten the name). There's a pool at the house, just a hop and a skip away from the camp site, and the kids had the best fun in it. At the house you can also meet Speedy the friendly pig which the kids thought was hilarious. The beach is really close and so are lots of other great sites. Sasha and Phil were incredibly helpful. We cannot wait to go back.
