The Sunnyfield

UK England South East England Kent

Maxted Street, Nr Stelling Minnis, Canterbury, Kent CT4 6DJ
A convivial rural campsite with 15 pitches in a hilltop grassy meadow in the Garden of England. Play in the wildflowers, cook atop your campfire, or just plain chill.

A few years ago, Sasha and Philip Eason bought the eight grassy acres of Little Pett Bottom Farm and it wasn’t long before they were lured outside by the colourful wildflowers and fluttering garden birds. After camping amid the greenery of their private paddock with family and friends, they began to realise how much fun could be had by pitching a tent on their doorstep. Now they have unbolted the meadow gate, set down the basic facilities and opened up their pristine pastures to the everyday camper.

Nestled in the Kent Downs, surrounded by ancient trees, The Sunnyfield boasts a hilltop position that's blessed with sunlight all day long, hence its name chosen by Sasha and Philip’s children. Arrival is tinged with anticipation as you wind your way through narrow lanes, the banks overgrown with cow parsley and long grass, to this truly secluded spot in the Kentish countryside. As you pull through the gate, you’re greeted with a generous open space for just 25 pitches and a car-free site perfect for kids.

Refreshingly understated, ablutions consist of composting loos, cleverly-converted horsebox showers, and there are standing pipe taps dotted around the site which supply easy access to running water. There's also a new undercover 99% recycled washing-up station, so you can wash up in the dry. Other than that, this is an unadulterated meadow and it's such simplicity that creates the real charm of the site. It provides a rustic, traditional camping experience, with campfires at each pitch and dogs welcomed. When you’re done larking in the flowers or clambering among the trees, you can clean-off a short stroll down the hill to the farm yard undercover of the Atcost barn where a brand new hub-come-haven has been created with horsebox coffee shop, straw bale breakfast cafe and, the pièce de résistance, a fantastic new Italian outdoor oven ready for delicious wood-fired pizzas and other smokey outdoor delights including the Argentinian classic, 'dirty beef' with chimichurri salsa, and butterflied spring lamb.

Such seclusion need not cut you off entirely and those willing to re-emerge from their cocoon in the countryside will find themselves poised to make the most of South East England. By car the beaches of Dymchurch, Sandgate and Folkestone are less than half an hour away, while historic Canterbury with its distinctive cathedral is just a 15 minute drive. Then of course there are the myriad quaint local villages with excellent pubs and restaurants, while top walking and cycling routes are on the doorstep for those who want a more vehicle-free holiday. The Sunnyfield have teamed up with a local independent bike shop to offer you a full range of bikes and itineraries to keep you busy all weekend or just an afternoon. Canoe trips can also be arranged – just cycle to the canoe station drop your bikes and head up river your bikes will be waiting for you at the other end for your journey home. A wide range of bikes and accessories are available including leisure, MTB, road riders kids bikes & tug alongs at excellent weekend rates. All come with helmet, lock, map and handy tool kit. They can even offer electric bikes for this who are really taking it easy (sorry no motors for canoes!).

For those looking to recharge the batteries, keep your eyes peeled for The Sunnyfield's summertime wellness retreats. featuring pilates, yoga and lovely health-conscious vegetarian cuisine courtesy in this most reinvigorating of settings.

The Sunny Field is the working definition of ‘simple but effective’. Sasha and Philip saw a space made perfect for camping and thought, 'if something ain't broke, don't fix it!' Wildlife still enlivens the hedgerows and tranquility is still the word – rural camping at its best.

Fantastic 40th!

Oct 5, 2017 by Abigail

I invited 36 of my favourite family and friends to celebrate my birthday galloping at Sunnyfield. We had the most fantastic weekend. The site is great for a group and in a beautiful location. The tents were thoughtfully decorated and the shower and toilets all clean and worked well. Sasha and Phil made us delicious breakfasts and dinner on Saturday night and were really helpful with advice about what to do during the day. We rented their army tent for communal space which acted as good base for us all to hang out in. Lovely campfires, lots of safe space for the kids and dogs - and we were even lucky to have a sunny weekend. Couldn't have been better!

A windy weekend

Sep 12, 2017 by Julia

My sister, my dog and i had a lovely long weekend at the Sunnyfield. The weather forecast was changeable but we went anyway and had the whole place to ourselves for the most part. The facilities were clean and the view across the field from the loo was lovely! The pitches are large and well spaced out. Unfortunately the gazebo didn't survive the last very windy night but worse things happen at sea. As we went at the end of the season and were alone, meals and the shop were not open but Phillip kindly provided some butane gas, when we ran out and we had catered for all our food needs anyway.

Perfect weekend at the Sunnyfield

Aug 16, 2017 by Ed Wealend

We hired the whole site for a weekend for a festival wedding, and it was absolutely fantastic. Sasha and Phil are a lovely team, who pulled out all the stops to impress our guests from all over the world, with pizza, breakfasts and a variety of tents all set up. The site itself is wonderful, and the glamping tents come with everything you need for a relaxing weekend in the country, or a manic wedding in the country - if you're brave enough. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Brilliant stay

We had a brilliant stay at Sunny Field. Loads of space, great amenities and brilliant food down at the farm. The area itself feels incredibly rural - somehow softer and less manicured than even neighboring parts of Kent. Our 4yr old loved it, and made a tonne of friends within minutes, and our enormous labradoodle loved all the attention she got too. Highly recommended.

We LOVE Sunnyfield

Jun 11, 2017 by Indi

A large group of families from our school camped this weekend at Sunnyfield. It was brilliant. Really easy going and relaxed, the weather helped of course! Phil made sure our group were all camped together in a great spot and we had everything we needed. The loos were clean and the horse box showers heavenly! We had breakfast in the barn on Sunday when our food supplies got low. Thanks Sasha and Phil for making it a really memorable weekend for us all. This is a really special place and we loved the views, the freedom, the swing...perfect for kids. We are definitely coming back soon.

A Spacious Field with Lots of Room

Jun 2, 2017 by Dee

We were lucky enough to have spent the Bank Holiday weekend here at the end of May. It's a lovely spacious field with room for the kids to explore (run wild) but you can also keep an eye on them. There are a few things I wish I'd understood before we went. The campsite in essentially on two sites. A big sunny field at the top of the hill with a lower mezzanine field too and then down the hill is their site with pre-erected bell tents. The site down the hill is also where they serve the pizza's, breakfasts, etc from the barn. It's quite a stroll up the hill on the way back but there is a swing for the kids half way up, but if you're not steady on your feet you may opt to drive down. It appears to be the main base down the hill. PITCH The pitches are huge, we've never stayed on such a spacious pitch, even the spaces between pitches were huge. They were also really flat, the underneath of our tent has never been so clean to pack away! We had a lovely spot in the lower level of the top field, which meant we had shade from about 6pm, it was hot so this was welcomed. Some of the pitches have a fire pit dug into them, but it's not clear how to secure one of these, I'd recommend to ask when booking, our neighbours had one and it was nice to sit around in the evening, they also sell dry logs for you to burn. If we booked again I'd go for a pitch on this lower level again but on the side closer to the top level as they get the evening sun and the morning shade. It does however involved pushing all your camping gear up hill on the way out, a small price to pay. They also provide wheel barrows to use. If you go with friends they give you one of the bigger pitches so you be together too. FACILITIES There were four compost loos and I only had to queue once, but they did smell a little as it got really hot. But they were reasonably clean and all apart from once were fully stocked with loo roll. There were also two converted horse trailer showers in the top field, they were really roomy and mostly warm, you just had to get the temperature right, the kids loved this! There was a pool on the site at the bottom of the hill but it was unclear if we could use it or not? I've seen that other review have said they used it but it wasn't offered to us. FOOD The pizzas were amazing, a choice of two sauces and up to three toppings. I'd highly recommend booking in for these on the Saturday night. I'd also suggest taking bottle of wine down with you and making the most of the wait while they're freshly cook. There are trestle tables set up down there. I heard about the breakfasts towards the end of our stay but we were happy being self sufficient. It would be lovely if they offered a to-tent delivery service in future too :) (the husband said it was the best pizza he's ever had!) SHOP We didn't make full use of the shop either as we were unsure when it was open, it seemed to be open late afternoon and offered some cool drinks and some sweets for the kids. I loved that this was a family business and the kids were roped in to help run the shop. We used the Tesco in Folkstone or Ashford to top up, both only about 10min drive in total. PUBS We went to the Five Bells in Braebourne - it's amazing for lunch/dinner and you must make time to visit and only 5-7mins from the campsite by car, you can't book so get there early. If you fancy a civil brunch take a drive into Canterbury and check out the Goods Shed (you need to get there by 10.30am on a Sunday) but their bubble and squeak is legendary. You can also top up on fresh produce there. We also went to Whitstable which isn't too far and had lunch at The Lobster Shack. Our neighbours raved about the kids park in Folkestone too but we didn't get a chance to visit. The owners were nice and friendly and came round and spot to every pitch on the Sunday night to see how everyones stay was going, which I thought was a nice touch. We'd love to go again and a bonus was no phone signal what-so-ever so it forces you to switch off.

Geweldige camping

Aug 24, 2016 by Biba

Fun weekend

Aug 23, 2016 by Marie

We had a lovely weekend at the end of July at The Sunny Field. We had a tent mishap on the first night but much to our appreciation, Sasha came to our rescue! We were quickly set up in a beautiful bell tent. The site was really nice. The children had a lovely time playing in the meadow and climbing on the tree stump in the centre of the field, which was a bit of a meeting point for lots of the children. We would love to return next year. Thanks so much again Sasha for your hospitality and help!

Fantastic camp site!

Aug 10, 2016 by OllyP

We had a really lovely stay at the The Sunny Field camp site. There is a fantastic amount of space and privacy, the large pitches surrounded by meadow grasses and flowers. We were down in the orchard, with lovely views out across the surrounding fields. We've been camping regularly since we were young and this is one of the first campsites in a long time that has taken be back completely to what it used to feel like as a child, the beautiful simplicity. For me, a perfect camp site!

Bliss!

Aug 9, 2016 by rachel

We have been camping for over 20 years now, all over the world and Sunnyfield has to be one of the best camp we've stayed at. It's all we want on a camping weekend, a beautiful field, wild flowers and long grass, the closest you could get to wild camping but with showers and toilets. The showers are a perfect mix of rustic and chic. It could just have been a standard shower in a horse box, but no, the owners obviously have an eye for design, the retro basin and the fairy lights make it a lovely experience you want to talk about. They also have a quaint little farm shop in a trailer on site. The allocated pitch is big and there is a lot of space (long grass) between you and the next pitch. Our daughter loved The Tree! it seems all the kids loved it, it was kind of the communal area where parents would meet, talk about their day and chat of what they thought about The Sunny Field (all very positive!) We were lucky with the weather and the sun light at sunset is magical. All in all a great weekend, in fact so great that we already booked to go back in 2 weeks time.

Best Campsite Ever

Jul 12, 2016 by The Griffiths Gang

We are seasoned tent campers who have camped all over the world; however we have never glamped before.  After a discussion with some non-camper friends, we decided to find a campsite that would accommodate for all our needs (camping and glamping).  We searched all around the greater London area and were lucky enough to stumble across The Sunny Field.  Our requirements were ever changing (8 families) and Sasha and Phil were extremely accommodating.  One would even say they bent over backwards to meet all of our needs.  In the end, we all decided to glamp and what an amazing experience it was!

The site was stunning.  The perfect space for children to safely frolic through the grass and create a world of their own.  A fantastic layout for us to set up our "kitchen" area (they provided an Indian tent for us at an additional cost).  And finally, a wonderful spot for our campfire where we could be close enough to the children after bedtime; yet far enough away not to wake them...

The bell tents were gorgeous and warm (it was about 8-10 degrees at night) and stocked with anything & everything you would ever need to camp.  I must say, I may never tent camp again after staying in their bell tents...  :-)

I can't say enough positive things about The Sunny Field. Sasha, Phil and their kids have done an incredible job with their campsite.  We will definitely be going back at least once (maybe even twice?) next year.

PS - Even their pizzas are amazing!!

We arrived on a blustery, rainy and horrible day and it stayed cold and damp for most of the weekend, but despite that we had a fabulous time in this idyllic spot. Spacious tents and comfortably and prettily decked out, plenty of privacy as tents so far apart, lovely food cooked by the hosts on Saturday night, and a warm welcome from Sasha and Philip and their children. Overpriced for what it is

May 31, 2016 by Suzy

Beautiful field & great location but essentially a very basic site & disorganised owners. Just returned after late May BH. Only one shower on site, which kept not working, often no loo paper in the toilets & the fire wood they sold was so green it didn't burn. People were buying it from the garage at the top of the road. Also cars not allowed on field to unload & pack up, yet campervans are allowed on the field? Wheelbarrows are supplied to cart gear but not enough of them. Not good enough for £90 for three nights! Not only that, but when we paid the owner the cash balance he told those of us that didn't have the right money that he didn't have change, so they paid over the odds!

Responce from campsite owner:

Dear Suzy
Thanks so much for your comments. We openly welcome all comments good and bad although sad as never had feedback like this before.
It was our opening weekend in the top field and we had a few hiccups. We weren’t as ready as we would have liked to have been.
To address your points a boiler in the 2nd horse-box shower unfortunately went kaputt and impossible to get a replacement over the bank holiday weekend. We did offer an additional 2 showers at the house for everyone.
Logs Logs Logs! thanks again for making us aware of the logs not burning. I have been using this log man for three years and this was the first batch to be like this – you'll be glad to know that batch has now been returned and new wood has taken its place – once again hard to rectify over the weekend but most other campers I went round and spoke too felt that the free extra kindling given really helped to get the fire roaring.
Cars – We have always been very proud and clear about the fact we are a car free campsite making it a safer place for kids to explore without worry. We do have three designated camper van spaces and they need to get in and out.
Wheelbarrows – You are right about there not being enough in the wheelbarrow station – I do have quite a lot of barrows but I know they were in high demand as I spent most of the weekend retrieving them from kids who appeared to be using them for Ben Hur style races and paddling pools!!!
Finally I must take exception to being perceived as not giving you change. As I remember you didn't have any money when everyone else paid initially but promised to pay later. It was only when I saw you driving your car across the campsite that I asked if you could settle the outstanding amount, I did offer to get the £1.50 change but you said not to worry.
Thanks again for visiting and really sorry we didn't meet your expectations we try to run a simple campsite but I guess it wasn't what you were after.

And what a sunny field!

May 15, 2016 by Emmasworld

I booked this about 4 weeks in advance for a week end break from the stresses of city life with my 2 kids ages 5 and 7. This was our first time 'glamping' as wanted to arrive after a long drive and just have it all there waiting and easy, and mostly for a good nights sleep! We arrived on the hottest week end of the year so far and were the first to arrive so they were still perfecting the bell tent with decorations and it didn't let us down.

My son loved the dinosaurs and daughter loved the books left for us, but best of all was the trampoline, I hardly saw my kids..(all within sight though) the bouncing exhausted them and they were full of joy.The little added details of hot water bottles,( it got chilly at night so this was heaven) a gas stove which I cooked everything on including toast, and lamps for the dark starry nights were well thought out. The campfire and toasting marshmallows won't be forgotten. The pitches are far enough apart that you feel secluded and not on top of the other campers and very quiet.

Went for a lovely walk through the fields behind the site, and picked loads of wild garlic for pesto, which was delish! Also took a drive to a lovely pub called 'The Tiger' great food and they let the kids play in the field next door, very friendly place.

And its only going to get better there I imagine as still improving every day when we were there getting compost loos up and running, maybe another shower would have been good but I think this is in the pipeline. I didn't mind as truly relaxed and didn't follow my clock for the first time and ages. Gorgeous spot.

We will be back.

Great

Apr 3, 2016 by hilaryfoote@hotmail.com

We had a great time here despite the weather in June last year. The pitches are sort of marked out which surprised us a little but actually made things easy due to long grass and overall the site retained more beauty and tranquility. This site is large and simple but more than adequate.  It really would be a sunny field but for us it was a wet field- although the rain did not cause any problem despite the site being so exposed. It's a trek to the shower but it's lovely. The washing up facilities were fine as long as it's not raining as it's all open air. The fact that the water was hit was a real bonus. The toilet is fine  too and not smelly as it's so high up. We all got used to it fairly quickly. The owners were very friendly and informative and they kindly dropped off logs every night.  We would go back happily!

We stayed at the sunny field in July - it was lovely! Greeted upon arrival by Sasha and Philips very friendly children who showed us to our pitch and gave us very useful information about the area. The field itself was beautiful and very peaceful and all the pitches were separated by the long grass which gave us a nice bit of privacy in the evenings around a lovely fire. Will definitely visit again!

40th Campsite bash

Sep 15, 2015 by Janie Wood

Just got to say thanks Sasha and Phil for a fantastic weekend. We had a blast celebrating my 40th birthday with my nearest and dearest, lots of kids, grannies and friends from far and wide. The Sunnyfield is so beautiful and a perfect setting for a gathering. We exclusively hired the fields and had a own mini festival with kids running around freely, legs of lamb on the bbq and a big roaring fire with bales in the evening. The indian tent was beautiful and simply decorated with trestle tables and benches fit for a banquet and some dancing under the stars. It was easy to organise something relatively so simple in a meadow and the weekend just flew away with much love and fun and some good old fashioned camping. Thank you again, it is a very special place.

Absolute bliss

Sep 3, 2015 by Tony Howard

We stayed in August for 3 nights with our family including sons, girlfriends, grandchildren and sister and brother-in-law and our dog.  Sasha was very helpful with our booking and we had three pitches in the lower field, just off the main field. If you prefer to be in the big main field then mention this when you book.  All the pitches were very large and very well spread out.  Just perfect.  We had room for a badminton  'court' on ours. There are trolleys/wheelbarrows to move your camping gear to your pitch.  The little ones loved the trampoline and tree swing, a nice touch.  Sasha's son came round with logs to purchase for the fire pit.  They also set up the cinema for us on a day of torrential rain and we all enjoyed watching Paddington.  The toilets were clean - don't be put off by compost toilets because they smell less than normal toilets. We have stayed at other sites with compost toilets and we'd rather have  these. The horse box shower was amazing and very quaint.  There were plenty of standpipes with fresh water and a washing up station with warm water.  We went to Tankerton beach and Whitstable for a day out but other than that we were happy to spend time at the site.  We had a day of hot sun and rain the rest of our stay which didn't spoil a wonderful and memorable time at Sunny Field.  We will be back!

Big man, small tent, epic fire pit.

Jul 21, 2015 by Narayan

Just came back from my second stay at this campsite.

It is easily my favourite in the South of England.

Beautiful fields with long grass, spacious pitches that give you enough privacy especially with the long grass. The couple who run the campsite are so friendly and laid back, just nice people.

Great facilities with everything you need.

Perfect vibe.

The surrounding countryside is just breathtaking.

Nice warm shower in a clean very well done out horse box, very surprised at how well it worked to be honest.

They have two young boys who you can buy wood and stuff for your campfire, they can even run little errands for you for a few quid.

They will also help get all your stuff  from your car to your pitch for free, which was a nice touch after a long car journey and a hard week slogging it out in the city.

You have Canterbury very close and whitsable was 30 minutes away.

Beaches everywhere.

Wish I owned a campsite like this! What a great way of life. 👌🏽

Great suggestions regarding local pubs and beaches, we even inadvertently stumbled upon a game of cricket up the road, Australia vs Kent no less!

Thanks to Sasha and Philip for making us feel so welcome and relaxed from the moment we arrived.

Just Perfect

If only all campsites were like this...

We stayed in the newly planted orchard and probably had the best three days camping we've ever experienced. If we could design the perfect site it would probably look and function a lot like this one. The pitches are cut out of the longer meadow grass and so nicely spaced there's no danger of feeling on top of each other. The peace and quiet and beautiful views were exactly what we were hoping for and Sasha and Phillip couldn't do more to make our stay more enjoyable. We had an evening walk to an amazing pub with great food and drink, a trip to the coast for a great fresh seafood lunch and a visit to beautiful Canterbury. The rest of the time it was a pleasure to just sit in the orchard with our dogs and relax in such a beautiful environment. This is a campsite that allows you to switch off and remind what camping is all about, getting away from it all and enjoying the outdoors.

Very pleased we've found the Sunny Field and from now on this will be the site that all others are judged against, it really couldn't be better.

Phil and Sasha are very helpful, keen to ensure that we had everything we needed, advice on where to eat/ drink/ visit (great countryside), and above all they had an ancient and enormous pig called Speeedy (kids were fascinated). What a great weekend we've had at The Sunny Field. 3 families undertake an annual camp weekend and to date they have all been very successful.  It was our first visit to The Sunny Field and it didn't disappoint.  The meadow style pitches in the Orchard were beautiful, the weather held and we had a great time exploring the countryside and letting the kids enjoy the great outdoors. Facilities, whilst straightforward, were clean and in good working order.  Being able to have a fire is the icing on the cake.  Sasha and Phil were great hosts always happy to help and share their knowledge.  We would highly recommend this site.

Perfect weekend

Jun 11, 2015 by rebecca

I recently visited this beautiful spot for a long weekend! We had an amazing time and will definitely be back. We were greeted with a lovely pot of wild garlic pesto and given a great choice of pitch. It was blissfully peaceful the whole weekend, even as it got busier with more campers, the pitches are kept to a minimum and not too close, so you never feel intruded upon. We took long and short walks around the beautiful countryside, banks of wild garlic, the end of the bluebells and big fields of rape seed made for wonderful scenery! I can't recommend staying here enough!

Perfect Camping

Jun 8, 2015 by Richard & Mandy

We spent three days camping at Sunny Field over the last Bank Holiday in May. We were greeted by Sasha who gave us our choice of pitches (all which were lovely) and also a pot of wild pesto which was gratefully added to the evening's meal. Each pitch has so much space that privacy is ensured as well as a fire pit which always makes for perfect camping.

The area is fantastic with much to do. We walked along the North Downs Way to Wye with fantastic views over the Downs. There are several nice pubs in the area if that is your thing.

Trollies were provided to carry kit to our pitch as no cars are allowed on site which made for a relaxing atmosphere. The shower in the farmhouse was lovely.

This is certainly how we think campsites should be and we hope to be back again next year.

The BEST campsite in the world!

Jun 3, 2015 by Joe

We stayed for 2 nights over the last May bank holiday and honestly, this sunny meadow was truly the very best campsite we've ever stayed at! It's 2 big fields with so much space that even on their busiest weekend we felt like we had the place to ourselves. It's wild and overgrown round the edges, you can have fires, the smell of wild garlic drifts through the air and they even have a swimming pool (but back at the main house, a few mins walk down the hill away from the camping)!

The site is in the middle of nowhere, nestled deep in the North Downs, but yet you can be there in under an hour from London by train. Sasha even picked us up from the nearest station so our journey to get to the back of beyond couldn't have been easier.

I'm scared of shouting too loudly about this site as we'd love to keep it a secret, but Sasha and Phil made us feel so welcome and went to such an effort that we want to share the Sunny Field love!

Thanks guys and we'll be back!

Fantastic, spacious camping

May 31, 2015 by Jane

We stayed for 3 days at Sunny Field with our two children and dog and had a relaxing, amazing time - it really is back to nature and we loved it!  We received a very warm welcome on our arrival from Sasha including pots of wild garlic pesto.  She had allocated us three fantastic pitches next to our friends in the corner of the large meadow.  It was very safe and our children were able to roam freely in the meadow and down the hill to visit Speedy the very friendly pig. There is lots of room between pitches with paths cut between the long meadow grass and buttercups.  The fire-pit at each pitch was a very welcome addition and the children toasted marshmallows around the campfire.  We had lovely weather for the majority of our trip but when it did rain the cinema barn down at the farm was the ideal distraction.  A really lovely camping experience - good for the soul!  Thank you to Sasha and her family for creating a very special place.

Lovely place - lovely people

May 25, 2015 by Julia

We have just returned from a peaceful weekend at The Sunny Field.  Peaceful because there is loads of space between pitches, no rowdy groups and a big open sunny field filled with kids flying kites amongst the flowers.  But the thing that made it truly special was the perfect hosts.  They were friendly, informative and went out of their way to make sure that we were happy, including giving us a small pot of wild garlic pesto, checking our van hadn't broken down - and allowing our kids to hover around Speedy the pig for as long as they wanted!  We would highly recommend this campsite to anyone.

Best place ever

Had the most wonderful time at Sunny Field over the Bank Holiday weekend - was expecting the usual UK  weather but it was glorious, just as the site says! The site is just what I was looking forward to - the pitches were widely spread with lovely trees surrounding it and everyone seemed so happy to be there. It really felt like in the middle of nowhere - so quiet & peaceful - all I could hear was the crackling of the fires from the other pitches. So can't wait to return.

Off the beaten track

Aug 27, 2014 by sareb87

Just got back from three nights camping at The Sunny Field, our first camping trip with our two children. We had a lovely time albeit a bit damp! The location is perfect, a field in the middle of no where. Basic provisions but that was fine with us - although could've done with a washing up station a bit closer. I think its worth pointing out that although the field is well away from roads, a lovely twisty drive to get there, we could still hear what I presume was the M20 and seemed to be below a flightpath as we could hear planes quite loudly all night. Of course there's nothing that can be done about this but I just think it's worth pointing out in case people are looking for a truely naturally silent location.

Very nice camping

We stayed on the sunny field for three wonderful nights. We loved the fact that you have so much space of your own but that if you want to you can easily to talk to anyone you like. Loved the firepit. Extremely nice people!

I didn't mind that the loo's and the shower were a bit basic, although I do hope that in the future the loo's will become a bit more loo like :)

Great site

Aug 15, 2014 by Vanessa Linehan

Our three families went together to Sunny Field. Unfortunately for us, and nothing to do with the site, it wasn't always very sunny - we would still highly recommend it though! It's set in beautiful countryside, it is peaceful, relaxing and the perfect place to take children and dogs. The five children had a brilliant time, they were off playing on the swings, getting muddy and generally doing all the things children do when let loose in a natural environment.  The two dogs were able to roam freely. There are big gaps between tents so they didn't bother anybody else and several other tents had dogs too. We took trips to Folkestone and Broadstairs to the beaches and had a wonderful Sunday lunch at the Tiger Inn in Stowting which Sasha recommended to us. She and Phil couldn't have been more helpful, putting up with our questions beforehand and us changing our minds about how long we were staying. They even let us stay in one of the bell tents when our tent leaked in the heavy rain which was so kind.  They also provide hot croissants and firewood if you ask.  The shower is a bit of a trek, but I really enjoyed strolling through a couple of fields in the morning and meeting Speedy the pig on the way.  It is a steep walk back though.  There are only two portable toilets and a cold water tap.  If you want a bit more luxury this might not be the site for you, but if you want a lovely chilled out place to stay where you are made to feel really welcome do try Sunny Field!

Sunny Cool Camping

Aug 14, 2014 by Jono

Thanks again Philip for a great stay at Sunny Fields.  Kids ran feral. Lots of space to chill out. Campfires and fireside songs. Logs, warm croissants & jam for breakfast and helpful onsite logistics :-) Basic and very friendly, even the pig!  This is what cool camping is all about. We loved it and will be back for sure! A must for any cool camper, caravaner, campervaner!

We are missing it already

Aug 8, 2014 by Theo

We loved our three night stay here. The site is beautiful and peaceful - we were hardly aware of the other campers. The sun shone on us til bedtime and then we had shade in the morning in the corner of the field. Dungeness and The Warren beach in Folkestone were a treat but we really looked forward to coming back in the late afternoon. Phil was really helpful - it was lucky he warned us of rain on the final morning so that we could do most of our packing the night before. We will definitely return - thank you so much!

Perfectly simple camping

Aug 5, 2014 by hannahtpagan

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights in our VW and it wasn't long enough. Phil and his family are very warm hosts, eager to help make your stay as comfortable as possible. Having said that if you are of the white-picket-fence-fully-serviced school of camping you won't find that here and thankfully so! The portaloos are clean and the shower hot and most importantly the field is beautiful and the pitches are very generously sized. I'll be back in a flash to enjoy the peace, quiet and sunshine (even with children running around) and some of Phil's elderflower cordial and croissants. We went swimming off The Warren and enjoyed a mountain of oysters at Whitstable's Wheeler's Oyster Bar. Long may The Sunny Field reign!

This beautiful site will stay in our hearts forever

Aug 3, 2014 by Marjolein & Lauran

Dear Family of the sunny Field Campsite! One week ago we left your site, on which we spent 8 delightful nights. The sun was out many many times indeed, so the name matches completely. We truly believe that this is a sacred place to be and we loved it from the first moment. There was a good vibe on the field and also between the camping peolple, we had some nice contacts. Olga, our youngest one, loved the swing in the beautiful oak tree next to our pitch ( thank you mother nature and Phil for arranging this!). If I go back in my mind, I can still see the long grass sweeping and I can hear the wood cracking in the campfire whilest watching the red sun going down. Wonderful memories and breathtaking scenery: we are happy to know your secret garden. Thanks for all your help at the site, you made us feel very welcome, we appreciated that very much. Our very large pitch with the long grass around gave a secluded atmosphere. For one week it was our home and we will keep it in our hearts forever. We will certainly visit you again if we are visiting your beautiful area in the future. Keep up the good work and many sunny days to you. Heaven on Earth

Aug 3, 2014 by Nicola

I agree with English Apple... I am hesitant to write a review as I too would like to keep this slice of heaven on earth a secret.  Thank you Sasha and Phil for your wonderful camp site that you have created. The natural beauty of the fields plus the camp fire and swings for the children - we loved the croissants and homemade strawberry jam.  There's loads to do in the area and it was such a wonderful break for my family and I from the relentness pace of city life.  We will definitely be returning next year.

Hi Sasha, just to say thanks again for that couple of nights we stayed at Sunny Field a few days ago. Great place! Keep up the good work: all those caravaning people don't know what it's all about ... stick to the tent people ;-)

Sunny field heaven

Jul 28, 2014 by PoppyH

A lovely campsite, well worth a visit if you want a retreat from the busyness of everyday. Pitches were well spaced and felt very private, owners and campers very friendly, with plenty of space for our 3 boys to run and play in safety. Facilities are basic, but clean and adequate, and the use of the pool was a real bonus. For those who like to get away from it all this is perfect. Fires at night, elderflower cordial, and croissants, as well as a very friendly pig!

The view from the tent was blue sky, trees and long grass, plus the occasional child running and screaming with delight. This is their first year with campers at sunny field, and I expect there will be many more, book soon so as not to miss the laid back feeling of the place.

A Warm Kent Welcome

Jul 27, 2014 by EnglishApple

We've just returned from a weekend at Sunny Field and we are all totally in love with the site. Philip, Sasha and all of their fmily made us feel very welcome and we adored the elderflower juice; thank you.

The campsite was perfect; quiet and set in a beautiful meadow and with so much space between pitches that you'd often think you were on your own. We were fortunate to have glorious sunshine on our visit and the place was alive with wildlife - the perfect reminder of what the English country side should be (not a caravan or electrical hook-up in sight).

The facilities are basic but spotlessly clean and the play area was a real treat for our children. Nothing fancy but who can resist a swing or game of swingball. The absolute stealer of the show was however that we could go down the hill to the swimming pool (2 sessions a day) which was so, so lovely.

The site is only a short ride into Folkestone where we went for a fish and chip lunch; but we couldn't wait to get back to the campsite for some more quiet family fun.

I am loathed to write this review because I want to keep it as a secret... but Philip and Sasha deserve to be recognised as their site is a wonderful get away spot.

Simple and natural. Bliss!

Jul 21, 2014 by yamarama66

Just stayed here last Sat night for our first camp of the year. Only about 1 hr 15 mins from South London which is great. Love the big open space with long grass and the pitches just cut into the grass. Simple but perfect. Can have fires, people were friendly, the portable loo was clean, rubbish facilities close by. The owners were lovely and even brought us a bottle of their homemade elderflower cordial. Would highly recommend for a short camp if you want something natural.

Totally Fab

Jul 20, 2014 by heather

Having visited for 2 nights with hubby, dog & vw camper, I hesitate when writing this review as secretly I want to keep this truly special place a secret.  Yet that really wouldn't be fair to my fellow cool campers nor to the delightful owners Sasha and Philip who made very effort to make us feel welcome. The sunny field is magical, the spacious meadow is like no other campsite we have been to before, complete tranquility with just the sound of the neighbouring sheep and the distant yet happy buzz of fellow campers and a huge, huge pitch cut into the long meadow grass.  Yes the amenities are basic but spotlessly clean and more than adequate for our 2 night stay. We didn't try the pool but it's a delightfully unexpected treat in the beautifully rural landscape. We highly recommend a wonderful pub local gastro pub THE TIGER, with amazing vegetarian food on the menu. Also don't leave without tasting the delicious Kent grown fruit & vegetables from local farm shops and even locally grown & brewed wine from vineyard nearby.  Rain or shine this part of Kent is a must see.

Rainy but Sunny weekend away....

Jul 19, 2014 by steve

Very warm welcome from Sasha and her family, all good no nonsense stuff. The field is situated up a hill from the farm and is a beautiful meadow, the pitches are extremely well distributed and long meadow grass separates you from your neighbour (what a great idea!). The pool is also proper stuff, probably built in the 70's but well worth a dip, all good fun. Sasha and her family made us feel right at home and all kid's ended up swimming together. Speedy the pig is fast becoming a legend, I don't know many but that is one friendly pig. Definately visit again, dogs no problem and we all had the best weekend waking up off the beaten track. Thank you all, see you again soon!

Super cool camping

Jul 19, 2014 by Noa

We stayed for 3 nights (2 of us and our 2 kids) at the beginning of July and wished we could stay for longer!

This is truly special camp-site! Owners Sasha and Philip are lovely helpful and made us feel very welcome.

The sunny field is very spacious and beautiful camp site, pitches are very big and cut into the long meadow grass, there is a very nice distance between pitches, we had neighbours on the pitch next to us and we could not even see them!  Facilities on the field are basic but very clean, a short walk to the house for more ‘home like’ facilities like washing up station fantastic hot shower flushable loo and a pool which was great fun on warm days (we didn't go into the main pool just the small peddling as we got young children). We had all sorts of weather boiling hot days and a torrential rain! It rained a lot but as the ground is so soft and grassy there was absolutely no mud and all was dry in the morning!

Great local gastro pub (The Tiger, and The Five Bells). There is a petrol station minutes’ drive from the site for all the basics. And a very short drive to Canterbury, Folkstone and lovely local beaches

This part of Kent is absolutely beautiful! It was lovely to discovery as well as this fantastic camp-site! Defiantly worth a visit before it gets too busy!

Perfection

Jul 7, 2014 by Stephen Lowndes

We stayed here for 3 nights (4/5/6 of July 2014). It was one of the most peaceful places I've ever been. I never realised there was such tranquility in the North Downs. It really did feel miles from anywhere, but in reality it is very convenient for visiting all of the many attractions in the area. Don't expect luxury though. This is a new campsite and it lacks the facilities that some people expect. But to compensate, we had a large field all to ourselves, a great campfire, and the stars above - actually it did rain one night but that's all part of the fun. The owner is very helpful and he does plan to install some basic facilities in the near future, but for the moment this is as close to wild camping as you can get in the SE of England - and all the better for it. So thanks Phil (the owner), for a great weekend!

Heaven in Kent

Jun 30, 2014 by Nectarina

Only one and a half hours away from London, tucked away, private, peaceful and heavenly. We just loved how totally immersed in nature we were – waking up from a deep sleep to the birds and flowers and butterflies was simply heavenly. There was no one else there when we went but even if there were I doubt you'd see them, the fields are huge and feel very private. Also the lay of the land, and how tall the grass is, means that you probably wouldn't see tents in other pitches. We set up our fire very easily and had the most amazing evening under the stars, after a delicious dinner at a pub nearby (forgotten the name). There's a pool at the house, just a hop and a skip away from the camp site, and the kids had the best fun in it. At the house you can also meet Speedy the friendly pig which the kids thought was hilarious. The beach is really close and so are lots of other great sites. Sasha and Phil were incredibly helpful. We cannot wait to go back.
