A stunning, family-friendly campsite on the stunning, family-friendly Isle of Wight
Poised in the southeast of the aptly nicknamed ‘garden isle’, Ninham Country Holidays is a campsite with a secluded rural feel, yet one that remains a short distance from one of the nicest resorts on the seafront. With its functional new town and quaint, thatched old town, Shanklin has been a popular part of the Isle of Wight since tourism began here. Where its cluster of houses merge into the woodland beyond, anyone with a good eye will spot the potential for fantastic campsites to be found. And, no sooner have you hopped, skipped and jumped into the green, inland countryside, then Ninham appears in the grassy midst, a family-run camping park ideal for exploring the island.
Although admittedly a large site, Ninham Country Holidays thankfully has none of the commercial atmosphere you might expect. This is a family-owned and family-focused site based around the original farm buildings. The site's 230 pitches are also divided across two separate fields, split by a wooded valley and surrounded by mature deciduous that provide shelter and shade on warmer days. This secluded, countryside feel is only accentuated by the long, private drive that takes campers down to the site, cutting them off from any road noise whilst also acting as a speedy cycle path back to the outside world.
Campers have a choice between two fields: ‘Orchard’, the larger of the two with ultra-modern eco-facilities that do clever things with solar and rainwater-harvesting technologies (and which happen to include an extremely handy family room with specialist showers and a baby bath), and ‘Willow Brook’, with its own separate facilities that – although more basic – are functional and well-kept. In both camping areas, pitches are kept mostly to the edges of the field, providing ample room in the centre and ensuring campers aren’t crammed together in the 18 acres of space. Those still wanting more from their pitch can even ask for the ‘XL’ option so motor homes, awnings and cars can all easily be accommodated in one spot.
If the weather turns, wander back to the main reception block and you’ll find a welcoming indoor games room with a pool table, air hockey and more, along with free Wi-Fi and space to relax with a coffee or ice cream, served onsite. Outside, Ninham also boasts a sports area and a heated swimming pool – ideal if the weather is a little too nippy to enjoy the sea at nearby Shanklin Beach.
The best way to explore the island is on two wheels. Surrounded by mature woodland and rolling countryside, there is a fabulous network of footpaths and cycle routes that lead directly from the campsite across Ninham Farm's sprawling 120 acres. Those who head south can link up with the famous Shanklin Chine, a twisting pathway with steps leading down into a mossy gorge, enlivened by the sound of a cascading waterfall. Meanwhile, by car, the rest of the island is open to experience, its plethora of attractions and summer festivals providing all with an entertaining itinerary, whatever your taste.
Ninham Country Holidays is a 4 star graded site set over 12 acres of level, within 120 acres of the larger, Ninham Farm.
There are approx. 135 pitches spacious and landscaped pitches catering for types of unit, on the 'Orchard' with only the Summer holidays seeing them being filled anywhere near occupancy - so book out of high season and you may just enjoy the site (almost ) all to yourself :)
It is a perfect spot for those who want to enjoy a scenic and peaceful space among nature. When you do manage to drag yourself away from Ninham, it’s just a short ride to the safe & sandy beaches of Shanklin, and Sandown Bay.
The 'Orchard' camping area offers spacious, level, and landscaped pitches catering for types of unit, divided by hedging and mature specimen trees. It benefits from modern shower facilities, with renewable technologies such as solar water heating and rainwater harvested flushing toilets.
The site enjoys an outdoor heated swimming pool open late May - early September, and is operated on a regulated booking system. There is also a games & tv rooms for the children in the mid & high season periods.
A firm emphasis is placed on being nature friendly and all guests are expected to adhere to a strict recycling policy and the countryside code.
Please note: well behaved dogs are accepted but not during the school Summer holidays. They must be kept on a lead at all times on site.
Numerous bridleways and footpaths lead directly from the site with easy access to an extensive cycle path network covering a lot of the Island. Bikes are certainly recommended and cars are not allowed as transport around the site.
All electricity at Ninham is supplied by a 100% green energy supplier and supplemented by their 10kw solar system.
Tents, touring caravans, motor homes all welcome - please do notify us in advance of booking if your tent is very large or your motorhome is over 6m
Cyclists or guests arriving on foot by public transport do not pay a pitch fee.
Families and couples only
Well behave dogs ( max of 2 ) are permitted except during the school summer holidays.
Head into the seaside resort of Shanklin with its thatched old town at the southern end overlooking the golden sands of the beach.
Sandown bays beaches are perfect for young families with gentle, safe & sandy beaches
The Shanklin Chine is a popular attraction, a luscious green ravine with a walkway down the gorge-side to a handful of attractions at the bottom, including caged birds, chipmunks and a Victorian brine bath. Back at the top of the cliff, Rylstone Gardens are also a great place to escape the crowds.
Beyond Shanklin, Ventnor, in the south, is a fishing village turned fashionable health spa and boasts beautiful gothic buildings that cling to the slope above the sands. It is a fantastic walk from here to Steephill Cove.
Food & Drink
A coffee and ice cream hut is open during the Summer School holidays high season offering freshly ground 'Island Roasted' coffee, dairy ice cream and drinks.
There is no shop on site, as there is a choice of 3 supermarkets, all within a 5-10 minutes' cycle away on safe bridleways or if necessary a 5 minute drive
Our favourite farm shop Farmer Jacks is nearby, in Arreton, and has a great butchery and selection of the finer things.
The Pointer Inn, also in Newchurch, is one of the oldest pubs around and still deserves its local fame, as does The Taverners in Godshill, a real country bolt hole.
In nearby Shanklin, the place to head is down to the waterside where The Fisherman's Cottage is tucked away. Uncomplicated and unpretentious, this thatched pub is a great spot to enjoy the daytime sunshine.
May–September (the Willow Brook area is open July and August only).
It may be the largest island in England but there's only one campsite you need to know about on the Isle of Wight when it comes to kid-friendly fun. With an outdoor pool, a well-equipped sports area and a perfect, safe location for exploring the isle by bike, Ninham is top of the tree.

We have just returned from a lovely week at this campsite. Peaceful. Very clean toilet block and showers hot. Arrived late no problem our pack was waiting with directions to our pitch. Some beautiful walks from the campsite - short walk to beach and shops also. We used this as a base to explore the island. All o in all a great pla e to stay.
Well organised, spacious, and impeccably clean
First time visiting Ninham and it was a pure delight. There is tonnes of space and great facilities. The toilet and shower blocks were pristine. A joy to use them and the showers were really hot. From the checkin process, welcome packs, through to departure this made it a seamless process. I will definitely be planning another visit next year.
Very spacious, and even during August Bank holiday weekend it didn't feel busy - the large, level pitches are laid out in such a way that you can't see many others. Lots of greenery and open spaces between pitches. Shower and toilet blocks are immaculate and I never had to queue. Children's facilities are good - they even have a climbing wall - and the pool booking system is simple and works well. Close by to lots of activities for the children - crazy golf at Shanklin and Robins Hill is 10 mins away. Would recommend a visit to Bembridge Life boat. I wish we could've stayed longer.
Excellent family site
Enjoyed our stay. Great for families with young children Immaculately kept shower / Toilet block. Had heated outdoor pool, small games room with pool tables, table football etc. ( not arcade) badminton / volleyball nets, kids playground. 5 min drive from Sandown / Shanklin. If you are looking for a quiet family campsite as a base with good facilities then look no further.
Wonderful campsite for families
Everything about Ninham was wonderful - there are ample play areas for children with the pool a real bonus, all of the pitches are pleasant and don’t feel too crammed in. The shower block is very clean and modern. It’s a lovely place for children to run around and have a bit of freedom whilst actually being very safe. The staff were also a notable strength- pleasant at all times and they couldn’t do enough for you. In all we had a wonderful stay at Ninham and would definitely return if we come back to the island.
We had an amazing experience at Ninham. We were given a welcome pack which includes a book about the island, map of the campsite and it’s facilities and garbage bags. The site was clean, plenty of things for children to do, lots of space to run around and play, never had to queue to use the facilities and easy access to shops. The campsite is close enough to reach all the attractions of the island. Our girls can’t wait to come back. Would definitely recommend and would definitely come back.
Superb site, amazing staff, facilities and location
Perfect organisation, felt very safe, pitches were very well spaced out and private, especially clear when passing other sites where tents were right up to each other. The pool is superb and clean and warm, the facilities are fab, the location is superb, a short walk off road from Shanklin! Thank you for a great holiday!! Highly recommend this site!
The campsite provides a good amount of space between pitches, is very well maintained and the reception is very friendly and helpful. The showers are hot and the pool and games room provide great amusement. It's helpful to have laundry facilities too.
A fabulous site with plenty to do and a stunning location on the island.
The facilities at Ninham Country Holidays are excellent, regularly cleaned and enough to easily cope during peak season. It was brilliant having access to a heated pool and our kids loved using that every day. Due to covid regs, this needed to be booked the day before and we were limited to 40min which was just long enough for the kids to enjoy. The site is incredibly quiet as it is well set back from any main roads and the information in the welcome pack made it clear that the expectation was for the site to be quiet after 9pm, which I think helped a lot. The indoor facilities were good too with pool and air hockey tables available. A lot of care goes into maintaining the site. I think it would be good if they could provide an outdoor shower or other facility to allow wet suits to be cleaned, but other than that, it was a brilliant camping venue.
Great site, staff, location
Staff were all friendly, helpful and understanding of some personal challenges we had. Lovely site with top quality facilities. Perfect for cycling out from.
Lovely open space
This was a lovely campsite for our first full week's camping in some time. The field we were pitched on was really open with a huge space in the middle so we never felt hemmed in despite the campsite being at capacity. The showers were clean and the pool was really warm! The weather was pretty unpredictable the week we were there but the site was just round the corner from a host of excellent things to do with small people. The site staff were really friendly and helpful and I would recommend this site. The only minor issue is that we were a fair trek from the toilet block for children with little legs but that's a small price to pay for such a lovely week.
Clean, organised, friendly
All the staff, from the people on reception, to the person who came to the pitch to welcome just after we arrived, and the people who kept everything clean and functioning, were lovely - warm, friendly, helpful. It's a pretty big site, so to make that work there are a few more rules than you might normally get (exactly how/where to put your tent and vehicle on your pitch for eg), but that seemed like a small price to pay for everything to work smoothly and everyone to be happy. Highly recommended.
Fabulous campsite - a real gem and a credit to the owners…. Well done!
Really excellent facilities, beautifully maintained grounds so that the pitches were cozy, spacious and yet felt really rural & private. The pool & shower block were clean modern and again well looked after. We are raving about this site to all our buddies. Excellent safe family biking on the red squirrel trail & only a quick 10/15 min whizz down to the beach on bikes for the best ice creams too 😋
5 star camping.
The sun came out and we booked a last minute break via Cool camping based on what was available for the weekend. Our search led us to Isle of Wight, which we'd never visited before, and Ninham Country Holidays to be exact. We were so impressed with what we found at Ninham. It far exceeded our expectations. The site was superbly run, sustainably kept and immaculate in cleanliness. We booked a standard grass pitch with hookup which was screened by a hedge and big enough to feel quite far from other campers thereby giving us some privacy and quiet time. The pool was an absolute bonus and even with Covid restrictions in place we felt like it added an element of luxury. The facilities are well kept and the staff are super friendly, checking in from time to time to see that you have all you need. The setting makes for a camping experience which is well and truly part of the landscape. I couldn't recommend this spot more. Hats off to the team. 5 stars from us.
A beautiful well-maintained site in a stunning location
We recently stayed at Ninham Country Holidays for my 30th with our two little ones (1 and 3), and friends too, and had an amazing time! The site itself is very well looked after and well designed, with generously sized pitches and rows of hedges and meadow keeping the areas nicely seperated, which with having young children with us was perfect as it allowed them plenty of freedom. All throughout our visit there was a continuous effort to ensure the site was kept clean and tidy. The facilities on site were fantastic. The toilet and shower block was very clean and tidy. The swimming pool was a really nice temperature. The games and TV room area was great fun (made even better by an England win in the Euros on the Saturday night!) The outdoor activities were fantastic too, with our little one enjoying the play apparatus whilst the rest of us enjoyed a game of volleyball. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our time at Ninham Country Holidays and are already making plans to return next year!
Extremely well equipped campsite in a very convenient location
We stayed at this campsite just for a weekend. It was pouring with rain when we arrived, such that the host came round in his truck to check that we were OK part-way through pitching our tent. We were, but the tumble drier facility was very welcome afterwards! The washrooms, etc., at this campsite are the best I've encountered. They're modern, clean, spacious and plentiful. The site was not at all busy when we stayed, but it's hard to imagine that the facilities would have any difficulty coping when all the pitches are occupied. We didn't try out any of the additional facilities like the swimming pool, largely thanks to the weather, but it's nice to know that they're there, and considering that they're included as well we thought the campsite was very good value for money. We would definitely recommend this campsite to anybody visiting the Isle of Wight.
Wonderful site; great (clean!) facilities and a warm welcome, topped with a tremendous pitch! Kev was brilliant - helped us numerous times and was a fountain of local knowledge! Great stay...highly recommend!
Campsite that ticks every box
I cannot rate this campsite highly enough! From the lovely friendly lady at reception and Kevin who escorts you to your pitch so you don’t get lost!! Went with 2 teen girls and I would say there’s plenty for that age group. Lots their age to hang out with and they have the outside badminton, table tennis & games room. Lovely clean heated pool - covid restrictions meant we could only go in on our Friday arrival day as was fully booked, but was fine as we had a couple of beach days! Great facilities... clean spacious and plenty of hot water. Chilled out vibe and very quiet. So so good having a huge Morrison’s and Aldi a few mins drive away. A good friendly pub (great Pornstar Martini) in walking distance and all the IOW attractions on your doorstep! Got back yesterday and I’m rebooking for summer hols! Really well done on a fabulously run site 🙌
Lovely campsite ideally located for Shanklin
We had a great stay in this brilliantly furbished campsite with great access by quiet bridleways to Shanklin and Seaborn, perfect for cycling. Unfortunately one of the other couples camping on the site had their bikes stolen on one of our first evenings, but the campsite staff were friendly and made sure to remind us to lock our own bikes at one of several secure bike stands over the coming nights, which we would not have done otherwise.
We are very delighted with our 6 days stayed at this peaceful place. There are a lot of places around to exploring. We very recommend and would to back again! Thank you.
Odd customer service- spoiled what would have been a pleasant stay.
pros: Long driveway makes you feel that you have escaped from it all Large flat grassy pitches Pool and playground, small bouldering wall, Impeccable shower block, very well kept and spotless. Really useful family shower cubicle with baby bath Eco credentials Nice footpaths/bridleways to enjoy- and pop to neighbouring site for an icecream Cons: Overflowing bins Pretty mean, inflexible checkout process with officious reception staff Allocated pitches with very specific pitching rules We arrived an hour or so early and were allowed to pitch straight away which was welcome given we had chosen to camp during a heatwave. We were allocated a pitch, which was a bit of a shame as in hindsight it would have been ideal to choose a shadier location. The campsite looked barely 1/8 full. A tent in 30 degrees of full sun and 3 young children is hard work. We also found the pitching rules a bit draconian (tent/or caravan to left of the space with car alongside to the right only) and were unable to choose how to use the pitch space to suit our needs. The site was well kept, with clean modern sanitary facilities. The swimming pool was really welcome- a bit tired and no shade whatsoever which was a shame and a bit odd in such hot sunny weather. Its concrete block - no flowers/plants, feels dated The check out process was really disappointing. The leaflet stated check out by 10am prompt. We were packing away a large tent + paraphenalia in 30 degrees with 3 young children which meant we were running behind. Given the site was almost completely empty, we asked if we could extend this to 11am. After much computer checking, we were begrudgingly told that as no-one else was using our pitch later that they would allow this, on this occasion. Once packed, we then asked if we could cool off quickly in the pool as we were all hot and exhausted. This was refused and we were told to leave. Had the place been heaving, we would agree it would be completely justified, but we really could not understand why they were so reluctant to make an exception under the circumstances on the 'rules'. Pretty stingy thing to do - felt very much like 'we've had your money now go'. I tried to explain that I had 3 young children, it was 30 degrees and we had just packed everything up and were too hot and sweaty and really needed a quick dip. I was met with a very cold and curt response about the rules. Won't be returning - would prefer to camp somewhere where the owners/staff prioritise their customers and didn't have such a computer says no attitude.
Glorious sunshine for the whole two weeks. Location was magical and the staff and owners are lovely and always looking to make your stay as comfy as possible. Will be going back every summer, the kids loved it.
Perfect for bank holiday
We just got back from a lovely bank holiday stay at Ninham. It was my partner's first time camping, and I think I've convinced him to go again with me. Despite the few rainy days, we did have a few sunny moments spent at the campground and elsewhere on Isle of Wight. I found the shower and toilet facilities to be suberb, probably the best of any campground I've ever stayed. It's set back and very quiet, and also picturesque. We didn't have an opportunity to check out the pool, but maybe next time, I would definitely visit again!
Just ideal in every way!
We were a little cautious when booking as this is a sizeable and semi-commercial site. We tend to shy away from the campsites with row upon row of little white boxes.
We needn't have worried. The place is stunning. Set in woodland, the camping fields are large, but don't feel that way as they offer lots of shady areas and are divided by large hedgerows and fruit trees. Most with hook-ups and water (ideal for campervans)
The location is down a seriously long private drive. Makes you feel like you've really left the road behind. Large lake, in a lush setting (rabbits everywhere in the evening!). My wife was able to put a couple of 10k runs in (down to Shanklin and Sandown) and the cycle paths are ideal for exploring the area.
The facilities are first rate. Large shower facilities and toilet blocks set in a rustic eco-friendly cabin (with benches outside, it's that good you want to sit *outside* the loo!)
Swimming pool area is fab - straight out of a continental site. Small kiddies play area and games room (which was being refurbed when we visited) We went in June, so missed the school holiday fizz (and the staff did say it's very different in the high season). There's a big supermarket (Morrisons) just a couple of hundred yards up the road (no shop on site, but none needed).
One of, if not *the* best site we've visited.
Superb campsite in picturesque setting with outdoor heated swimming pool.
- welcoming & friendly owners & staff
- marvellous, secluded outdoor heated pool: O, the heavenly bliss!
- reasonably priced tent pitch: v. quiet & peaceful
- best coffee on IoW!
- space-age shower block: ultra modern, clean with piping hot showers
- very pleasant 20 min stroll to Shanklin, shops &c
