Sometimes you just can’t fight your destiny; this is the campsite formerly known as farmland where the owners caved in to campers constant requests and now, for 28 days a year, this field gets to fulfil its wonderful campsite potential

Just minutes from the M27, the motorway gives way to moorland, drivers reduce speed in homage to the grazing gardeners of the New Forest – the wild ponies – and time slows down in step with the traffic. Cue deep exhalation of city congestion and, ventilated by heather-perfumed air, one remarkably swift passage into the wilderness.

Such accessibility from the conurbations of southern England earns the location big accolades. Still, don’t expect to hurry through William the Conqueror’s former hunting ground; wild horses may have dragged you here, but they’re unlikely to budge from the road till they’ve had their fill.

Tom Charman’s grandmother bequeathed her family the pottery and farmhouse adjoining the field. For years, campers would turn up requesting a pitch, encouraging Tom and his cousins to run an honesty site: a sign at the gate would welcome arrivals and contributions were collected each morning.

Tom’s Field now has 50 plots, managed by Tom and his wife Tina. Numbered pitches run parallel to the road, opposite another line of tents that overlook the moors. Here, parents sit outside their ever-expanding canvas constructions looking almost stunned by the sudden onset of relaxation. At the far end, beside a clutch of woody pitches, is The Copse, a favourite with couples.

You can walk for miles on the moors and explore villages by bike or on horseback. At night, campers laze around, barbecuing food. ‘Or the more adventurous,’ laughs Tina, ‘make the half-a-mile pilgrimage to the pub’.

The Owner Says

Tom’s Field commands a stunning location close to the village of Godshill, 3 miles from the town of Fordingbridge and is open for weekends throughout the summer months. Godshill is a quiet village on the fringes of the New Forest  where ponies, donkey’s and cattle all wander freely. We boast direct access and fantastic views. Footpaths and cycle routes are literally on our door step. With just over 50 pitches the main field offers large perimeter pitches for families and small groups. Our copse area is exclusively for couples which offer smaller pitches and a quieter retreat. We are a small quiet campsite and therefore have a no music policy at all times and request that there is no noise after 11.30pm. We can only take individual bookings on line. Please call for advice if you are a small group.

Lovely, friendly site - will come back again

We had 3 nights here in early September and it was lovely. The pitches are an excellent size. There was plenty of hand sanitiser everywhere and the facilities were really clean. The pizza van on the Saturday was a lovely touch - especially as it had an option for vegans! We also like that you could rent a fire pit. Most importantly, the lady that was working there, Izzy, was very friendly and helpful to us (and she recommended a good pub - the Horse and Groom in Woodgreen!). Definitely a site we would return to.

Lovely, clean, friendly campsite

Exceptionally well managed campsite, very friendly and clean. Although very busy was not noisy at all with everyone adhering to the quiet zone rules. Pleasure to pitch here, we will most definitely return.

Lovely location and great campsite

We camped for three night on a pitch near road, when i arrived i did think traffic might keep us up but no traffic overnight and only woken by a cow : ) Toliets and showers very clean, lots of hand sanitizer and signs to remind you to clean hands. We were treated to some beutifull sunsets the area is stunning and some great walks. I would highly recomend its a great campsite we loved it : )

Relaxed & memorable

Camp site size wasn’t too far to walk to reception. Plenty of things going on and advertised, pizza van, chip van on site. Clean toilets & showers. All staff were friendly. Apparently normally have a van at 8am with supplies & croissants but because if covid. Being allowed fire pits were great as we brought our wood as well. Nice walk to the first pub .20 mins. Donkeys & ponies everywhere and ice creams vans. Nice walks around the outside of the camp. Will book again.

Flat field with scenic views ans essential amenities

The owners/staff of the field are informative and helpful. I had a flat tyre Tom pumped it up meaning we could go on our bike ride! Saved the day. The have a fridge and freezers on site to keep food and drinks cold. Plot was plenty big enough.

Excellent Site

Loved the site, shocked and happy about all the amenities included especially with the option to have a fire pit/BBQ hire. Impressed with all the COVID safe procedures, especially the shower and toilet blocks. We were in the couples/adults only area and liked that they separated it from family’s. The staff were so friendly and helpful, seem to be willing to go above and beyond. Good area with nice surroundings, walking distance to the nearest pub. 100% would recommend to anyone!

Practically Perfect in Every Way!

This site is a little slice of camping heaven. If you’re looking for a friendly, peaceful site where you can toast marshmallows on the campfire, enjoy beautiful views, great walking/biking trails with a local pub in walking distance, then this is the place for you. As always, Tina, Tom and Izzy were the perfect hosts. They are genuinely lovely people who are always happy to help or suggest local activities. They’re managing the pandemic exceptionally well. The already roomy pitches are spaced further apart, there are plenty of hand sanitiser stations and the extra facilities are cleaned/sanitised regularly. My family and pooch could not have been made more welcome - we will definitely be back. Tina, Tom and Izzy (not forgetting Prudence and Holly the dogs!) thank you for having us!

Fantastic, relaxed campsite

From the moment we arrived, to when we left - we felt so relaxed and safe and welcome at Tom's Field. Izzy welcomed us and showed us our pitch which was spacious and had wonderful views. The toilets and showers were kept clean and well maintained as well as the washing areas. Tom and his wife Tina were very friendly and approachable and offered to freeze our ice blocks free of charge. The whole camping experience at Tom's Field during the pandemic was safe and wholeheartedly enjoyed. Thank you for making our camping experience so enjoyable.

Love love love Tom’s Field

This is our second summer camping at Tom’s Field and it was equally good this year. Beautiful setting and views! Tom, Tina & Izzy are friendly, helpful hosts. And this year they have done a brilliant job at running the campsite during the pandemic with exceptional hygiene and easy opportunities to remain socially distanced and safe but also relaxed. We highly recommend this campsite and we are sure to visit again. Thanks Tom & Tina

Super campsite

Camped here for three nights with friends. Generous pitch sizes, beautiful views and fantastic location. Staff are friendly and helpful and we enjoyed the peace with the no music rule! Beautiful area with lots to do, our stay was over a very hot weekend but we kept cool by enjoying the streams and rivers nearby. I'm sure we will return.

Great camping location

Great location just on the edge of the New Forest, a delight to be surrounded by such beauty. The campsite arrival process and well thought through, felt safe and clear. We camped at the far end in the adult's wooded section, definitely the right choice for us. Great to able to hire fire bowls to have a full camping experience, and the loo's and showers were clean and clearly spaced and defined. Although the site is next to a road the traffic noise wasn't really a problem overnight.

Gorgeous location - pony heaven!

We had a great stay here.. the site is a great location right in the middle of walking trails and amazing views across the forest to watch the sunset. The facilities are basic but were really clean, pitches are a generous size and well spaced out. The owners are so friendly and helpful, the fire pits and visits from the ice cream van and pizza oven were lovely touches. This is a great site for watching the New Forest Ponies too.. they are everywhere as soon as you leave the gate, along with donkeys and cows. We will definitely be back!

Best fun ever

We had such a lovely time, the views are breathtaking and loved seeing all the animals running around free on the roads. The campsite was perfect, clean, well spacious for the kids to run around, toilets and shower blocks were well looked after and the staff were super friendly and helpful. We had a lovely chat with Tom who has done a fantastic job with his site. Tom's member of staff was so sweet, she was super helpful with helping us choose where best to go and nothing was too much when we asked her for help, she was very bubbly and want to say a massive thank you for helping us with things. I definitely recommend this site, not only do you have clean facilities, friendly staff, amazing views but everything is within walking distance. Would recommend going for a pub lunch or dinner to the fighting cocks, the donkeys and horse are all roaming around and my little girl loved it. Massive thank you Tom xx
★★★★★

Lovely site with great views

A few changed have been made to ensure that the site is Covid ready. More toilet and shower blocks have been hired. Not a fan of portaloos but there was rarely a queue for the flushing one. Pitches are allocated and have been made larger. There isn't a large area for the children to play on site but the Godshill cricket pitch is a very short walk and there were lots of baby donkeys to watch. We stayed for 3 nights but could easily have stayed longer. When we left we saw lots of children playing in the river at Fordingbridge which looked fun. The play area in Sandy Balls was good too!

Excellent quiet and clean campsite

Friendly and helpful reception. Well-thought-out adaptations for the coronavirus. Visible cleaning of showers and toilet facilities. The showers were fantastic! Quiet campsite, perfect for children. Great access to the New Forest and beyond. Good walks/cycling. Great options for evening meals - any time I don't have to cook is a win! I have already recommended this campsite to friends, and will be booking again myself. Thank you for a brilliant stay.

Great for small kids

What a find! We're newbie campers. Two adults 3 kids under 6. And this was ideal! Big enough for the kids to feel independent, small enough not to worry they'll get lost. Covid arrangements are really good. Shower and toilets clean and well stocked. Owners are WONDERFUL! Friendly, helpful, and fun. We had a rainy day for the main day but still had fun at nearby Avon Heath Play area and then short pony ride at nearby stables. Definitely recommend staying here.

Great spot, clean facilities, helpful team

Views are lovely. We especially enjoyed the deer, horses and bats! Spacious site with decent sized pitches. No music allowed and generally everyone stuck to the noise restrictions. The ladies in reception were very helpful and accommodating. It felt safe for kids and Was a super relaxing break. There was a little road noise but the hedges are high so it feels private. As the site is small it’s not too busy and has good vibes!

Wonderful break

Stunning views, very clean good facilities and great sized pitches. Covid restrictions have been well applied. Only downside is we had a sloped pitch which meant our son had particular issue with sleeping. It wouldn't stop us staying again though. We did lots of walking and cycling, the New Forest is very quiet for the time of year so perfect for a socially distanced break. Godshill has a herd of Donkeys with young which the kids loved. Fordingbridge has a shallow river perfect for kids to enjoy. I'm sure we'll be back!

Wonderful break

Stunning views, great, very clean facilities, really good sized pitches. Covid restrictions dealt with very well. Only negative is the pitches on the left are on a slope which made it hard for my son in particular to sleep. It wouldn't stop us staying again though. Godshill has a herd of donkeys with plenty of young which the kids loved! We cycled and walked lots, for the time of year the New Forest was quiet, perfect for a socially distanced break! If planning meals out make sure pubs are open and some pubs you need to book ahead.

Beautiful chilled camp out in the heart of the New Forest - Bliss!

Simple but well appointed camp site right in the heart of the Forest. Great location for biking, hiking and river swims. Laid back atmosphere; fires and dogs welcome. Ice cream van and fish and chip van visit on the weekends. Tom and Tina could not be more welcoming. I don't think I could ask for more!

Living our best life outdoors

Not having been to Tom’s Field before and with the added concerns around Covid, we didn’t know what to expect. All our worries were allayed immediately on arrival. We had such a warm welcome from Tina, no riot act was read to us, just pointed in the right direction of our serene copse pitch. Pitches were larger than normal due to isolation but we could see that an ‘original’ pitch was also a good size for campervan and awning. We could have a fire in an off the ground pit at night which is such a must wherever we can, that’s what real camping is all about.Facilities were great with allocated shower times due to isolation but why campsites don’t do this all the time is beyond me... it works a treat!! A local fish and chip van arrived in the evening... we collected our pre orders... fabulous! With walks a plenty, cycle routes everywhere, a pub ‘The fighting cocks’ a 15 minute walk away... what more could you ask for. Tom and Tina were brilliant hosts, letting everyone get on and enjoy themselves... we had already booked a return trip within 15 minutes of arriving. Looking forward to our next trip with our friends this time... just sharing the love!

Welcoming site for all all!

Thank you Tom and Tina for a most enjoyable stay! We all loved the site, there was loads of space for all the children to run around and play and enough space for the adults to cook and hang out around the fire pits. We walked through the beautiful forest to Woodgreen and had lunch at the local pub. The site is well looked after with clean facilities. There is a well stocked shop in the mornings (excellent pastries) and a fish and chip van on Saturday nights! It was a great stay. Thank you.

Great for young families!

We visit Tom's field every year. It's family friendly atmosphere and fab facilities make it a great weekend escape. Our boys love the tyre swing and we love that they can explore the site and have their own adventures (whilst always being in our line of sight) Highly recommended.

Beautiful location and friendly campsite

We had a great weekend camping at Tom's Field. The location is lovely and a great base to explore the New Forest. The site is great - open, level, marked out but spacious pitches. The toilet block was always clean we hardly ever needed to wait. There is a washing up area with cloths and washing liquid provided. We were provided with a bag to put our recycling in - it often seems hard to recycle when camping so this was good to see. We bought our own fire pit but you could hire one, and buy wood on site. There was a freezer to re-freeze your own ice pack or the option to hire one. There was a mobile shop which visited each morning and we bought Pizza from the van which came on Saturday evening. The site felt safe and friendly and there was minimal noise. A perfect site for us - we hope to return and have already recommended it to friends.

Small friendly clean campsite

We really enjoyed our stay in Tom's field. We stayed in the adult only area with our dog. It is very pretty with trees dotted about and a lovely view of the forest quiet and the added bonus of no music policy. The campsite toilets and showers are very clean all thanks go to Tina and Tom for this. The pop up shop and the visiting pizza pig and fish and chips van were great. The ice cream van visit was an added bonus on a hot evening. The added extras like soap, washing up liquid and cloths is a lovely idea. Tina and Tom do take pride in their campsite and it shows as it is such a nice clean campsite. They are so friendly and nothing is too much. we had a fantastic camping experience here and will go again very soon!!

Beautiful, honest and welcoming place

This campsite is in as picturesque a location as the description says, but what really makes staying here an experience is the owners. Tom and Tina are very sincere and lovely people. They have put a lot of thought into making the place run smoothly for everyone and it shows. Our car broke down and Tom gave us a lift into Salisbury while Tina advised on buses to get back. That’s the sort of people they are and that’s why we felt so comfortable and happy there.

Small, friendly, dogs allowed

Had a great stay. The owners are very friendly and helpful and clearly take pride in running a happy, well-kempt campground. The site in general and and the shower/toilets in particular are kept pristine. We stayed in the adult area, which is prettier and more wooded than the main families area, but be aware you can still hear the children (many of whom find the 'grown ups only' idea quite intriguing), that said it remains relatively tranquil. I especially appreciated the absence of music (nothing worse than a cacophany of other peoples music), the presence of dogs, and the visit from the fish and chip van.

Great little campsite

Booked a weekend for 2 mums and our 4 kids. The site is small but perfect for letting our kids(3.5, 4, 2x6.5) have a little more independence. The owners were very friendly and helpful. The facilities were clean, although we were furthest from them (but someone has to be). The campsite was fully booked but didn't seem overcrowded. The owners were let down by their pizza van (apparently not the one they normally use) but were very apologetic and provided menus for nearby takeaways so we got our pizza anyway. Would definitely go back and recommend to people looking for a simple weekend camping experience in the New forest

Just amazing

We booked to stay at Toms Field because it was close to where we wanted to be for an event but as it turned out the campsite was the event! The owners are an absolute delight and make you feel so welcome. Nothing is too much trouble. Our two young children made an army of friends within minutes of arriving and the child friendly atmosphere in the family section made it all so relaxing. Never have i known the facilities to be kept so clean and the morning shop was reasonably priced and very well stocked. In short its just an amazing site run by people who quite clearly care about what they do. we didn't want to leave and will definitely be back.

Chilling

We have been to the field now for holidays every year for the last few years and I have to say that it is just fantastic to chill it's no noise policy appeals just to be able to listen to nature at it best . The campsite is well run by Tom and Tina and nothing is too much trouble .we get the croissants and locally produce from the farm shop just delicious and good value . The shower block is always cleaned and the water is lovely and warm and always has soap and toilet roll as it is chechecked regularly . We love the fact we can hire a fire pit and there is coals and wood in the store to re stock . Having a freezer to re ice blocks is great too . I can't say enough good things about this field and we wouldn't go anywhere else .

Authentic, friendly and well-run

Second year staying here on the 2nd Bank Holiday weekend in May. We were Dads & Sons camping and this provides a great spot to do it. I like the scale, friendliness and simple rules of this place and Tom & Tina are welcoming hosts. I was impressed they remembered us from last year - a personal touch. This is good jumping off point for many outdoor activities and Moors Valley Park is a particularly well-run adventure park (they have a Go Ape facility). Definitely would recommend and will be going again!

Good for Beginners

+ Kids love it, good non-profit making shop each morning, great views, good walks. Woodgreen especially, The Horse & Groom pub, very nice. http://www.horseandgroompub.co.uk/

- Very regimental, you get told where to pitch and the border lines are burnt into the grass for your plot. Too expensive, for a narrow field - bit of a free for all, kids everywhere! The toilet block is too small (lots of queuing at peak times) for this site and dated, dishwashing facilities were always occupied, day and night. I don't want to shower 6" away from a stranger who's on the toilet! Pizza's, well you'll place your order and wait, over 2 hours (2h35m) to be precise, so a lot of frustrated parents feeding their children gone 9pm. Not particularly welcoming, we won't be returning.

A room with a view

We loved this campsite and have returned for the second time. Kids had a great time playing in the fresh air and toasting marshmallows over the fire. Fire pits can be hired and there is wood for sale too. If you want to sit round a fire, listening to horses munching on the grass and the birds singing in the valley below, then this is the perfect place. Friendly owners and simple but clean facilities make this a great weekend retreat. Don't go if you want to get really drunk, fall in the fire, have a drunken argument with your husband/ wife make lots of noise, play loud music or irritate everyone else on the campsite- this sort of person doesn't camp here thankfully.

Peaceful and fun!

Tina and Tom run a super small campsite with just 50 pitches.  There are super views and ponies are just over the hedge.  It's a great safe place for children to run around.  You can walk straight onto the heath. The mobile shop that arrives has a great selection of pastries, local produce, papers etc.  An ice cream van comes in the evening too! The showers and loos are in really good condition, with lots of hot water.  Washing up sinks even come with cloths/brushes and washing up liquid.  We've just booked our 3rd visit and can highly recommend it.

A Great Weekend Retreat

My boyfriend and I booked a last minute weekend here and had an amazing time. We were in the copse which was for couples and adults only. It was a secluded spot, nestled in the forest with spectacular views. The morning shop with fresh pastries, milk, papers etc was a welcome treat. The facilities were also very good and we were able to hire a fire pit. Would definitely recommend. The top field was suitable for families and larger tents. The owners were very welcoming and helpful seeing as I emailed at 9pm on a Thursday eve. Thanks for a lovely, impromptu stay!
