A spacious, off-the-beaten-track campsite that's still within striking distance of the New Forest

Sleepbrook Farm is just 3 miles from the boundaries of the New Forest National Park. Rumbling along the single-lane farm track that leads you almost half a mile from the road to the campsite, you’ll find all the tell-tale signs of the area: Long grasses, blackberry bushes and, finally, the great open space of the 10-acre camping meadow itself. The only thing missing is a New Forest pony trying to pinch your food. Whether that’s a blessing or a curse we’re not sure.

For those who do still crave the national park, it’s a mere three miles away, while Bournemouth and the south coast is little more than 15. The result is a campsite that’s well and truly tucked away from any crowds but also perfectly placed to pop out for the day and visit the main attractions. You can stay put and walk the local footpaths, taking in woodland, wheat fields and the little brook that gives the campsite its name, or you can hop in the car and take the kids to popular Peppa Pig World, a 25-minute drive into the New Forest. The choice is yours. If you’re camping for the week, we particularly recommend bringing bikes to make the most of the area, with ample car-free trails to explore in the national park.

The campsite itself is new for 2020 and a real ‘pop-up’ affair. There are fully serviced temporary toilets on site, and two electric showers, plus a small cabin with charging points for mobile phones but, otherwise, this is a campsite that focuses on space and peace, rather than endless pre-organised activities. There are water taps, picnic tables and some washing-up sinks inside the cabin but if you don’t fancy cooking on site it’s around a mile to the Churchill Arms pub, which serves hearty pub food and has local Badger Brewery ales on tap. Make it back in time for a campfire and you can really enjoy the campsite when it’s at its best: when the sun sets and the quiet crackle of evening time descends.

Facilities

20 pitch-where-you-like camping spaces around the edge of the meadow, eight fully serviced toilets, two showers, a cabin with washing-up sink, hot and cold running water, freezer, fridge freezer and microwave, picnic tables and phone-charging stations, multiple drinking water points and hand sanitiser stations throughout the site.  There is also an Elsan tipping point for campervan cassettes.  We like to do our bit for the planet so full recycling facilities are provided. Campfires are permitted but must be raised off the grass in firepits (a limited number of firepits may be available for hire and logs to buy but you can also bring your own).

Suitable For

Tents, campervans  and well behaved dogs – yes.    Caravans, motorhomes, noisy folk and big groups, sorry – no.

Nearby

There's good walking from the campsite but it's worth bringing bikes to make the most of the surrounding area under your own steam. You can head east into the New Forest (particularly well-known for its car-free trails and good wildlife spotting opportunities) or head west into the slightly lesser known Cranbourne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Cycle the three miles into Fordingbridge for lunch in a café or a picnic in the riverside park. Or you could even cycle to the Sixpenny micro-brewery in Cranborne (01725 762006), and enjoy one of their award-winning real ales in the Tap Room. Cranborne Village (three and a half miles) is the hub of the Cranborne Estate and well worth a visit. Teeming with history, the village boasts the beautiful Manor House, built in the 12th Century as a hunting lodge for King John. As it’s a private residence for Viscount Cranborne (the eldest Son of the seventh Marquess of Salisbury), the Manor House isn’t open to the public, however the beautiful Manor Gardens are open one day a week during the Summer (opening times, and other information available online). It's a 25-minute drive to Bournemouth and the south coast, too.

Food & Drink

It's a mile to the dog-friendly village pub, The Churchill Arms (01425 652147), built in the early 1900s and still doing a decent trade today, with family pub grub and a good host of real ales. There's also a local Post Office and corner shop (Co-Op) in the village, plus a mobile fish and chip van that comes by on Wednesday and Friday evenings. For more options, it's three miles to Fordingbridge.

Opening Times

August and first week of September.

The Owner Says

***We are now closed for the 2020 season. We would like to thank each and every camper who stayed with us this year. It has made our first season and enjoyable and memorable one.  We look forward to welcoming you all again next year - same time, same space ***

We are delighted to offer camping in one of our fields, Old Meadow, a tranquil area in the centre of our farm, overlooking acres of natural countryside and woodland. Situated just 3 miles from the edge of the New Forest in the little village of Alderholt (between Ringwood and Fordingbridge), this is the ideal location for a relaxing holiday with unspoiled nature and birdsong in abundance. There are many tracks and paths for rambling and exploring – the Sleep brook meanders through woodland and onto surrounding forested areas.

Old Meadow is a 10 acre field (5 football pitches) offering canvas and campervan pitches with well spaced grass areas in between making social distancing easy.

There are plenty of perimeter pitches to choose from and we can offer a secluded pitch for the ultimate peaceful break. Well behaved dogs are welcome (as are their owners). There is an abundance  of wildlife including buzzards, deer, cows and many other animals that live on the farm to enjoy. On a clear night look up into the star filled sky and you may even see the International Space Station flying over.

Sorry but we cannot welcome caravans, motorhomes and do not have electric hook-ups. No large groups Stags or loud music.

Our location offers the best of both worlds, a peaceful countryside retreat yet a short drive away from popular tourist destinations including The New Forest National Park, Bournemouth and Southbourne beaches, the Jurassic Coast and the larger cities of Salisbury and Southampton.

Pitches

Pitch where you please around the edge of the 10-acre meadow. The campsite is limited to just 20 pitches so there's always ample room to spare. There are no electric hook-ups.

Lovely peaceful camping

We've just had a lovely camping trip at Sleepbrook farm. The site is beautiful and so peaceful. We were there for 6 nights and used it as a base to go and explore the local area. It is a walk away from the nearest Co-op and pub which is useful. There is also a fish and chip van that comes to the village a couple of times a week. The site itself has a little cabin which has a washing up area, fridge, freezer, microwave and several power points which is really helpful. The toilets are portaloos but they are always spotless. My only complaint was that there was no handwashing area near them. There are two showers. Again, portable ones which are a little small but have plenty of hot water which is all we needed. The owners, Kathy, Nick and their son were really friendly and helpful. It was a lovely few days and I can't wait to go back next year.

Excellent - small friendly site with lots of space

Lovely find on the edge of the New Forest. We stayed over the August bank holiday weekend as part of a group of friends. The site is on a large grass field, with tents limited to the edges offering lots of privacy and weather protection whilst leaving loads of open space. There we more fields that the kids could use to play in and to exercies the dogs. Kathy and Nick were fab and have set up the site very well. They were never far away if any help was needed or to answer questions but left us alone the rest of the time. They were also great at keeping all the ammenities spotless with everything set up to be Covid safe. Really fun weekend and a great find, we will definetely be back.

Lovely spot

Such a great spot close to newforest and beach. Because there are limited pitches it means the site is private and peaceful, perfect for our young kids. Owners are really lovely and welcoming too.

Amazing spacious living

My partner, Rachel and I stayed for 5 days at Sleepbrook Farm Campsite. When arriving at the site we were greeted by Cathy who gave us a wide choice of plots, we could call home around a large open field. Once we had settled into our space, we had a look round all the conveniences, which we were both impressed with the level of cleanliness and the lack of odours. A few nights into our stay us ammeters had some "bush craft issues" we knew Cathy had rented out the fire pits, so decided to call her, for some tips, she insisted on helping and in no time she had rushed over too us with a bag of offcuts and a bag of hay! getting her fire started in no time, what a hostess. We will definitely stay here again!

Lovely Site - Highly Recommended

Booked a last minute stay here and had a lovely time. The field is huge and in the middle of the farm so very quiet, scenic and very safe for families. The pitches are large and the there is so much space for the kids to play you can relax and enjoy the back to basics environment. You could see the super friendly owners go to great lengths to ensure the toilets and facilities were kept nice and clean. We will certainly be returning for a longer stay next time.

Lovely peaceful campsite

We've had a lovely week at Sleepbrook farm. It's a great campsite with beautiful views. The pitches were really spread out and despite being technically full, it felt really quiet. The cabin with charging points, fridge and freezer was a very useful addition. Although the toilets were portaloos, they were spotlessly clean. I would have liked to have some handwashing facilities..Otherwise, no complaints. The showers were a bit small but lovely and warm Kathy, Nick and their son were really friendly and helpful and I look forward to camping there again next year. Helen, Jonathan, Jake and Ozzie

Informal relaxed campsite with super-friendly owners

Spent the bank holiday weekend at Sleepbrook Farm, it was a lovely campsite, no electric hook-ups or formal play areas so it was a lot more relaxed than a lot of campsites I've stayed at, and the owners were really friendly and always around keeping everything clean. The pitches were huge and there was absolutely loads of space for the kids to play in the field without disturbing other people, which was great. The portaloos were spotless. Could probably do with an additional shower cubicle and a couple of sinks but I think this is being considered for next year. The pub in the nearby village is about 20 minutes' walk and does decent food. We went to Beaulieu for a day out which was about 45 minutes' drive and definitely worth a visit. Would not hesitate to recommend this site!

Great first experience of camping

What was best about Sleepbrook is that you are not on top of each other. Plenty of space which was the initial reason for choosing this site. Kathy was there to greet us and the facilities are nice and new, and cleaned regularly. We would return next year and recommend to friends. We also pre ordered from Mike for Fish & Chips which was lovely and very well priced.

Lovely Low Density Campsite with fires allowed

I had a lovely few nights at Sleepbrook campsite in late August 2020. I really enjoy sites with no electric hook ups, and fire pits allowed or for hire, that are low density and this was all of those. Kathy and her husband were very present and friendly. The site was very clean and it was obvious cleaning was taking place regularly. I was on my own but there were lots of families and I would suggest the nature of how you arrive and leave this site makes it very safe for children.

Summer Sunshine Fun and Traquility

Very relaxing few days over the August bank holiday weekend. As a large group, (17) we had plenty of room for all our tents, children to play games and the dogs who loved to run in the open fields. We hired their super deluxe firepits that are great for barbequing and keeping the conversation flowing into the early hours. It felt like it was just us and the great outdoors. Booked the water park for the kids (only 15 mins away) + went walking in the New Forest. At the end of the day great to return to our non-touristy, tranquil plot. Highly recommended.
★★★★★

Lovely quiet campsite

We stayed here for 2 nights the Bank holiday just gone. Owners are lovely and check regularly to make sure everything is clean and working. Site is away from the main road and secured by a locked gate. Even though it was fully booked it wasn’t crowded with lots of space for kids and adults to run around and play- we had ample space to play rounders! Port-a-Toilets were very clean and regularly serviced, showers too, though the latter could do with some more hooks/ a shelf. Cabin with hot water sink, sockets to charge phones and 2 freezer and fridges was also very clean and regularly checked. Maybe one more sink to brush teeth/ shave would be an improvement for next year. Still, we’ll try to come back next year if it’s open again as we had a lovely time!

Rare find - the best campsite - highly recommended

Our family loved this campsite. It is a HUGE field, so there's plenty of space, and tents are pitched far away from each other. The facilities were all spotless - eight of the cleanest and sweetest-smelling porta-loos that I've ever encountered! There was a room with fridge space, power sockets to charge phones/tables, and boiling hot water for washing up. Also two hot showers. The campsite is owner-managed and you could tell: such a warm welcome and huge attention to detail. Great location - close to the beautiful New Forest. We will be returning. Thank you so much for hosting such an amazing campsite.

Fantastic experience!

We stayed for 2 nights and we wished we had stayed longer! The area was not too crowded and it was perfect. The amenities were clean and really good. The owners were lovely; very welcoming and always checking if we were alright or needed anything. There are plenty of things to do around the area and our 9 years old son had a fantastic time. We will come back!

Blissful stay in a very well maintained campsite

We had a really relaxing stay this week, despite the storms best efforts to put us off! The location is beautiful, the field is down a dirt track, well away from the road so its peaceful and feels pleasantly isolated, yet is still only short walking distance for a food serving pub or the shop. The owners were very kind and accommodating, and the facilities were always spotlessly clean somehow!? There is toilets, showers, and a nice little cabin with fridge, freezer, microwave, and ample sockets to charge phones, add in the option to rent a huge fire pit with lots of wood brought directly to your pitch by the owners whenever you text them, and I don't know what more you could ask for really! Thanks for a lovely stay!

Friendly picturesque and exposed to the elements.

I was more than impressed with the friendly welcome by Kathy Nick their son and their dogs! Throughout my short stay they ensured that everything was going well for me who had joined family already on the farm. Sleepbrook farms facilities were really well maintained throughout my stay and at no point did I have reasons to be disappointed. Booking was easy Kathy was efficient and friendly during this process as I needed to make changes. Finally it’s proximity to the wonderful New forest was it’s attraction for us and it was easy to visit as and when we wanted to. The new forest is our ‘happy place’ for holidays but sleepbrook farm were so welcoming it’s going to be hard not to return next year too! Thank you.

Wonderful quiet campsite

What a wonderful place this is and Kathy and Nick are amazing hosts. Our daughter is expecting a baby and needs to be near a toilet and also our granddaughter is registered blind. We found our pitchers which were a bit of a trek from the loos. Kathy and Nick said that it was no problem to bring one of the portaloos near to our pitches! What a wonderful thing to do and it made our stay so much easier. Having a charging point, fridge and freezer AND a microwave was fantastic although we didn’t need to use them. We would definitely recommend this site and will absolutely be visiting again next year (maybe our tents won’t get blown down then!)

Friendly, well organised camp

We had a lovely stay at Sleepbrook Farm. Kathy was very friendly and met us as we arrived and gave us all the information we needed about the site and the surrounding area. She was very accommodating and helpful. The toilets and showers were cleaned regularly and one of the great facilities was a cabin with a fridge, freezer and microwave which gave us a lot more choice with our meals. Sleepbrook Farm is well situated and it is easy to get to The New Forest, beaches and local shops, restaurants etc. It was also lovely to be in the middle of the countryside with amazing scenery and lovely walks around the site. My overall impression was of a well organised campsite which still retained a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. I would definitely recommend it!

Basic & Clean with everything you need!

We stayed at this campsite for 1 night in August 2020, it is a lovely campsite kept very clean and tidy, there is a large field so that you can have plenty of space around you, the owners are lovely and very welcoming and helpful, it is great how they greet you and let you know where everything is! There was 8 Portaloos for toilets which were the cleanest Portaloos I have ever been in and had hand sanitiser Inside and outside the toilets, the only let down was there was not any sanitary bins but that was not a major problem! There was 2 hot showers and a container with a fridge, freezer and sink for cleaning your pots, everything you would need but deffinetly considered more on the “basic” side, it depends what you are after for us it was great and we had a great stay!

Lovely surprise to find this gem of a campsite

Spacious field with good choice of pitches. Good amenities including portable loos (very clean), drinking water taps, showers, washing up facilities...if needed. Decent spaces between pitches and particularly liked 'round the edge of the field' pitch arrangement. Very grateful to be allowed freedom to cook on raised fire pit using bush craft skills in a safe manner. Site well managed/supervised by Kathy and Nick ensuring everything is running smoothly and safely. Good communication with campers. In summary...We felt we were made welcome on arrival to this intimate site and settled very quickly. This in has encouraged us to return again soon. The surroundings area is beautiful and seeing stars at night in complete darkness, was worth the stay alone!

Tranquil

Loved this campsite as the space provided was great. It was a calm and quiet location with only about 20 pitches in a vary large area which meant you could barely even notice other people there. The facilities are basic but all very clean. A good location for exploring either the new forest or a trip to the beach or crabbing in Lymington.

Brilliant campsite - wonderful hosts

We have just returned from 5 days at Sleepbrook and will certainly be going back! It was so good we stayed an extra night. Kathy and Nick were wonderful hosts and when we got rained out they offered us the use of their tumble dryer. The campsite is very rural, clean and the perfect getaway from it all. Do book a fire pit in advance as it makes a lovely evening looking at the stars and toasting marshmallows. Kathy and Nick have two gorgeous dogs who are very friendly and were very tolerant of my recently acquired and very nervous rescue dog. Toilets, showers and kitchen area were always sparkling clean. I had a morning chat every day with a neighbour walking with three labs who was just lovely. Brilliant holiday and very much recommended.

Sleepbrook Farm is a fabulous campsite. Great for the kids and our dog. Kathy and Nick could not have been more helpful. Book a fire pit in advance for your stay as it’s lovely to sit round in the evening. Kathy even brought us some toasting sticks for our marshmallows! Ideal for us

We were very pleasantly surprised at the lovely clean facilities at Sleepbrook Campsite. Kathy and Nick are really friendly and welcoming and always about to chat or offer a firepit. The rain was excessive one day and the drive was very muddy and potholed and this was rectified as soon as the rain stopped. There is free use of fridge and freezer and also somewhere to charge phones. Its on the edge of the New Forest so ideally located for lovely days out. Picked lots of apples and blackberries and off home now to make some jam. Thanks Kathy and Nick 🤗

Spacious, clean, welcoming - a perfect place to unwind Wi-fi free for some good old fashioned fun.

Kathy and her family were very welcoming immediately we arrived and frequently checked on all pitches to make sure that all campers had everything they needed. Their commitment to ensuring space is rare, and I hope they manage to keep to this approach as this really made the holiday special. With two very energetic children they had ample space to play without bothering other campers. I would thoroughly recommend Sleepbrook as the perfect campsite for families or small groups that need that escape from confinement and to enjoy the great outdoors in all its “New Forest” glory!

We hadn't realised Sleepbrook had only just opened and was very surprised given it was so well organised with all the facilities you need. Showers were a godsend in the heat and all the facilities were sparkling clean whenever you used them. Would suggest another couple of sinks for washing up but otherwise perfect. Campsite was excellent- huge amounts of space and lots of opportunity to walk around - we loved the treehouse bench surrounded by wild fruit.

Perfect spot to unwind

Sleepbrook farm is my ideal campsite. The facilities are basic, but more than sufficient and everything was kept spotlessly clean. The location is absolutely stunning, at the end of a private track surrounded by woods, the aptly named sleepy brook, horses in neighbouring fields, and even a solar energy farm to keep the view interesting. Best of all is the space. This is not a campsite with row upon row of densely packed tents and caravans on numbered pitches. Just the right number of campers for the kids to form a gang with their neighbours and explore the surroundings, and what must be more than an acre of meadow per for each pitch. To top it off is Kathy and her lovely family. She made us feel extremely welcome as soon as we arrived, and went the extra mile at every opportunity, even offering the use of her tumble dryer when the weather got a bit damp. There's a pub and a shop a 20 minute walk away, or 5 mins on a bike. The kids haven't stopped asking to return since we left, and I can't wait to visit again next year.

Lovely back-to-basics campsite

If you want a campsite with a perfect mown lawn, marked out squares, rules plastered everywhere and queues for the showers, then stay clear of Sleepbrook farm. We stayed for 3 nights in early August and chose a gem of a pitch in amongst wild mint and little yellow flowers, with a wood to explore behind us and beautiful sunsets and star gazing in front. They had a modern cabin with powerpoints for charging phones, a fridge, freezer, sink and even a microwave, all at no extra charge. The showers were very welcome in the hot weather as was the river swimming at Fordingbridge just a few miles away. It was lovely to wander around their land - we walked down to see the horses and then through the woods were we spotted lots of deer and the little brook. Do hire a fire pit and enjoy some baked bananas and marshmallows as you watch the amazing shooting stars. This is the first year for the campsite and I do wish them well for the future. Although they were always super clean, I'd love to see the chemical toilets replaced with water ones. Other than that, don't change a thing!

Enjoyable stay in lovely area with pleasant host.

We were happy overall with our stay and the amenities. The toilets were cleaned regularly each day and the cabin had room in the fridge and freezer to store our food which was a great convenience. The Cooperative store nearby got a lot of our business! Although dogs are allowed, I think that noisy puppies should be kept away until fully trained. The owners allowed their 9 month dog to bark two nights in a row until 10.45! We appreciate it’s a pop up. A space to wash faces and brush teeth would have been helpful as only one sink for dishes was available. However we didn’t mind doing both near our tent. Overall a pleasant visit. Thanks! We liked Fordingbridge and were pleased to discover the free car park at the end of the riverside recreation area - just past the pay and display! We booked bicycles at Forest Bikes in Burley and had a great day out exploring The New Forest. Moorefield Valley I think has first come first serve hire. We loved the exceptional food at The White Buck near Burley.

Friendly welcome and everything you need

We just stayed 2 days for a weekend but had a fantastic time. Kathy and Nick were very welcoming and the campsite was very clean and well maintained. It was great to hire a fire pit which had a huge grill for cooking. Flat field for easy pitching and plenty of space. Brilliant location for days out to the beach and Moors Valley Country Park nearby.

Great find, lots of space

We had a lovely few nights at sleepbrook. Facilities were clean, toilets cleaned regularly, and a fridge and freezer!!! Lovely being able to see the animals. Plenty of space, and friendly, helpful owners. Hopefully we can visit next year.

A wonderful weekend away, getting back to nature with the benefit of a hot shower!

We had a lovely weekend Camping at Sleepbrook Farm. Nick and Kathy made us feel incredibly welcome and comfortable from our arrival until we left. They went above and beyond, and worked tirelessly to keep the toilets, showers and kitchen / washing up area clean. They were always on hand to ask questions or have chat. Nick showed us the little calves that had been born the previous week and his enthusiasm for farming was infectious. Kathy gave us such a warm welcome and was more than happy for us to a walk in the woodland area to the back of the farm. This gave the kids a bit of shade and a break from heat wave. The site felt spacious and we had more than enough room to let the kids run free. I think it was fully booked the weekend we went, but at no point did it feel busy or overcrowded. The evenings were chilled and there were no issues with noisy groups or anything like that. Discreet but important touches have been made to keep everyone at a social distance, e.g one way system for showers, plenty of sanitiser dotted about and signs to remind people to keep a distance in kitchen area. This made me feel even mode relaxed - I was almost able to forget we are in a global pandemic. All in all, a fabulous weekend and I would definitely recommend Sleepbrook Farm. This is a real hidden gem and we hope to return next year.

Response from Sleepbrook Farm

Hi Lauren & Ellen, Thank you for taking the time to review our site.  "infectious" is not a word many would use when Nick starts on about his cows!!  Hopefully by this time next year we will have the pitter patter of different coloured four legged friends.  We look forward to seeing you again next year. Kathy, Nick, and the old man with the labs!

Beautiful and spacious

The campsite was wonderful. Plenty of space and a beautiful landscape. The showers and toilets were simple but clean and effective. The addition of a fridge and freezer in the washing up area was a lovely touch. Excellent location too

Really well done for such a new campsite!

We had a really lovely time at Sleepbrook a lovely quiet and peaceful place just what we needed from our little break away. Only thing I could think of it needing was maybe an things to do in the area display in the freezer room but obviously that’s quite hard at the moment as most things are shut or limited due to corona We wish we had explored the farm more for the brook so that the dog could have been nice and cool on the really sunny days but we would have definitely done that if we had stayed longer Anyway lovely site good facilities easy to get to places and AMAZING and attentive hosts

Well run spacious campsite with very clean facilities

We booked two pitches for the weekend and were really impressed with the campsite. The field is huge with pitches around the edge, so loads of space for kids to run around. Everything was well run, with ample supplies of hand sanitizer, and toilets were cleaned regularly. Definitely hire a fire pit. The owners went the extra mile and even did some washing for our friends whose daughter was ill on the way there. We had glorious weather, beautiful sunsets, and shooting stars. We’ll definitely go again.

Lovely venue and lovely hosts!

This is a fabulous find! Huge amount of space. Clean toilets, showers and washing up room. Fridge and freezers available too. The sunsets are worth the trip on their own. The hosts were lovely and helpful. Location is just enough off the beaten track to feel away from everything but close enough to facilities to get what you need. Will definitely book for next year.

Amazing Campsite!

We were honoured to be the first ever campers at Sleepbrook Farm - from the outset it was clear that this campsite was in a great location, very peaceful and well-maintained by friendly and caring staff. A lovely open field with plenty of space to pitch as you please. Portaloos and showers (with hot water!) were plentiful and always clean. A cabin for washing up and freezing ice packs etc. was an excellent addition. We felt very safe and felt that they had done everything possible to ensure safety and hygiene in these current times. We will definitely be back!
