Described by David Bellamy as a “paradise park”, Hollands Wood is a campsite where nature is valued more highly than commercialism

The New Forest has many strings to its bucolic bow. Some, like summertime midges are best forgotten. However, some like wandering wild ponies and the weaving web of walking and cycling trails, make unforgettable holiday memories. But we think nothing epitomises this captivating landscape quite like a relaxed, back-to-basics campsite, which allows visitors to connect with Mother Nature. Set in 22 hectares of untouched oak woodlands, bordered by an exquisite heathland, Hollands Wood is all the above, and much, much more…

Described by David Bellamy as a “paradise park”, Hollands Wood is the proud holder of the environmental campaigner's ‘Conservation Award’, for its ongoing commitment to preserving and enhancing the local environment. At a site where nature is valued more highly than commercialism, pitches are of a decent size, with many broken up by trees, ensuring a sense of privacy and seclusion for campers. Ablution facilities are clean and relatively modern, with three large blocks, each containing showers, toilets, a baby changing area, washbasins and electric shaving sockets. There’s even a shower for your four-legged friend!

Apart from all the obvious New Forest attractions (exploring the region by foot, bike or horseback), Hollands Wood is ideally located for a pit-stop visit to the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu (8 miles). This excellent collection of historic vehicles includes Campbell’s famous Bluebird, to film favourites such as the magical flying car, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Other exhibits include 'The James Bond Experience', where you can see a number of Q’s quirky inventions, including the road-boat from The World Is Not Enough.

Despite having space for 600 campers, it’s not uncommon for pitches at Hollands Wood to sell out. Extremely popular with families, couples and groups alike, we therefore advise you book in advance, especially during the summer months. And with that untouched woodland, with its countless walks and miles of traffic-free cycling right on your doorstep, it’s not hard to see why campers keep coming back.

600 undefined 8m x 5m spaces on which to put your tent, caravan or motorhome and space for one car. There is no electricity on site, but there are three toilet & shower blocks, washbasins, disabled facilities, baby wash & change areas, laundry facilities, battery charging, dishwashing facilities, drinking water taps, chemical toilet disposal and a dog shower.

Noisy and overcrowded

The site is week located fairly crash to the new forest. The washing and shower facilities are reasonable, although with the number of people here could do with more frequent cleaning. Loo roll on the floor and stained loos isn't a good look. The ground seems very varied. Some bits are boggy others have stones just below the ground which obviously makes pitching a tent difficult. On our visit in August there was very little grass in evidence mostly mud. However the biggest problem is its location right next to a busy road which it's busy late into the night and early in the morning. We would have pitched the other side of the site but that side was full.... Why anyone would construct a campsite right next to a busy road when there are hundreds of acres of quite countryside in the New forest I do not know. We are not even completing our booked stay, my sanity is worth more than the cost of the camping!

Suprb campsite

Great campsite in superb location for the New Forest's bike paths and pretty villages. We stayed here with a group of friends and loved the spacious campsite and its facilities - toilets and showers were clean but beware of the cheeky ponies!

Fantastic Site

Great Site. Have been coming here for years and its idilic. Everything is on your doorstep including inquisitive horse paying your tent a visit. There are great views out of the grassland and woods with deer bordering the site. Great walks all round Brockenhurst and good food and drink a short walk in to the village, we did a good 7 mile walk and ended up in the new Gin Bar at the Thatched Cottage for a selection of local gins. The friendly staff and the facilities are great on site the only thing I would like is to be able to have wood fires tho I realise they are trying to protect the woodland.

Lovely Forest Site

We stayed here over the Easter Week End and even though the forest is busy at this time of year the campsite did not feel busy or crowded at all. You can drive around and pick your own spot to camp. Walk out the back of the campsite and you are in the forest. The location is lovely, site is next to Balmer Lawn, its a short walk from Brockenhurst. Brock has pubs and restaurants if you don't want to cook. Staff on site are really friendly and helpful. You can hear the road from the site but the surroundings more than make up for this and the fact that it is just off the road means that you are in a great position to explore all the beautiful New Forest,

Fantastic woodland site

We stayed for three nights at the beginning of September, just after the school holidays had finished. It's a lovely site offering a huge ranges of pitches under the shelter of the trees. The best pitches overlook Balmer Lawn, a flat meadow that the campsite borders where you see herd of wild ponies grazing. The campsite wasn't overly busy when we visited and the facilities were kept clean but there was still a wait for the showers in the morning so I imagine when the site is full that would be a much bigger problem. There is a few good pubs in Brokenhurst, I'd recommend the Foresters Arms - about a 20 min walk or 2 min drive from the site. There are ample walks from the site and we also visited Stonehenge & Sailsbury from here - about a 1 hour drive. The pitches at the site all felt quite private & secluded because of the tree cover & we lived the 'visits' from the ponies..

Such a lovely campsite - huge but feels secluded and woody.  Great access onto forest and lovely helpful staff.

Stayed here for 2 nights in sunny June and it was fantastic. The site is huge with open or shaded spaces allowing for privacy. The facilities are new, clean and the showers are hot. The staff were all really friendly and helpful and it was lovely to have wild ponies roaming the campsite.

A short drive from the local town and you can walk to a nearby pub.

Will be back!

A little piece of lovely

The New Forest is a stunningly beautiful place and this campsite location wise is perfect.  We stayed as a group of several families with children under 14, it is as relaxed as camping gets, with no designated pitches you just find a spot you like and go for it.  Ground is nice and flat but a little on the hard side. New Forest ponies and cattle roam free so you will often be greeted by a pony on your washing up trips.  It creates a special magic for kids to be able to observe the ponies so close up.  Other activities our boys enjoyed were den building, star gazing, dam building in the river, bike rides and walking.   There are some lovely cafes in Brockenhurst as well as a Tesco, camping shop and takeaway.  Bikes are a useful as this is a large site, there are several amenity blocks, the reception sell pegs, and have an ice block hire service.  Ground is nice and flat but a little on the hard side.  Overall a great site and much to do and see in the area.  We would recommend it.

hard to beat this for true camping!

My husband and I took our two daughters aged 1 and 3 to Holland's Wood campsite for their first camping experience.  The setting, horses, campsite and facilities were so far superior to other campsites we've stayed at that we will be going back there time and again, it has the official 'favourite campsite' family stamp of approval. The location and attractions within minutes of the site make this a really unbeatable camping location.  The beaches not far off are stunning, the local river is ideal for cooling off in, the cows join you for a dip and the general atmosphere is festive and beats anything we've experienced at a UK campsite before.  If you haven't been, you must go!  We will be back, year after year!

We've found our happy place.....

A beautiful location,  friendly staff who are only too happy to help and just the right balance between the facilities you need and the back to nature feel you want. Hollands Wood is definitely a little piece of heaven on earth.  We had a fantastc time this weekend.  The campsite was busy with a nice mixture of family tents, caravans, tourers as well as couples and even intrepid hikers and cycle tourers. Everyone respected the site and each other which was nice. Most kids were corralled by 10pm but being able to let them find their own advetures on the heath and woods was brilliant and resulted in them being asleep before heads hit pillows!  Two things not to leave home without - bikes (whatever age) kids love cycling round the site and there are some lovely cycle tracks in the forest and Rock Pegs as the ground was a bit on the hard side - we got our ordinary pegs in eventually but it took a few attempts to site them meant it took a bit longer to get the tent up.
