Stuff Alton Towers – kids make their own entertainment here!

Alton Towers theme park may be only a short drive away, but this is an unashamedly simple, un-commercial campsite where kids make their own entertainment. The small, family-run site has just 30 pitches across a flattish field, with lovely open views over the Manifold Valley across to Dovedale and Thorpe Cloud. With plenty of space for the kids to run around and ride their bikes, you might even get chance to sit back and enjoy the scenery before being roped in for a game of cricket. The site is also a great base from which to strike out and explore the southern tip of the Peak District. A two-mile network of footpaths leads you straight from the site down to Dovedale with its iconic gorge and stepping stones. From here you can climb up the distinctive, conical Thorpe Cloud hill which rises up from the side of the river Dove. Or a two and a half mile round trip takes you through the tranquil Victorian landscape and woodland at the National Trust’s Ilam Park, where you can stop off for a cream tea on the lawn. The historic market town of Ashbourne and the Tissington and Manifold cycle trails are all within three miles of the site.

From the host
Common End Farm is a small, camping and caravan site on a gently sloping 1.8 acre grassed site to the rear of the farmhouse.  Overlooking surrounding fields and with some views across to Thorpe Cloud and Dovedale it provides a quiet and rural setting from which to explore the surrounding countryside and villages of the southern Peak District National Park.  A relaxed camping spot for families, couples, ramblers and school groups either heading off for a day of activities at Carsington Water or Alton Towers or for a walk direct from the site using the network of footpaths. With electric hookups available and modern toilet and shower facilities set within a traditional stone barn, you can enjoy the delights of the outdoors with a few essential comforts and facilities.
