Relaxed campsite loved it!
Great location easy reach of Keswick. Clean facilities, lovely working farm, relaxed atmosphere will definitely be back!
Quiet, relaxed and spotless
We arrived having booked a tent spot in a campervan but this did not phase staff at this very accommodating site. Our pitch was beside a little brook on a very quiet part of the site close to toilets and facilities. All basic but very clean totally serviceable. COVID restrictions were well managed and not overpowering A short cycle into Keswick and all that the Lakes have to offer. Would certainly stay again
Good site, location wise. Guidelines for covid were spot on and we were very impressed with the cleanliness of the facilities . The staff were helpful. It's in a great position for walking, visiting Keswick and very picturesque in parts. However, as previous reviewer mentioned, the bad weather caused mud issues! Maybe the owners need to improve the tracks around the site , extra gravel etc. It also made pitching on the caravan area a bit like staying in a car park as all the vehicles that weren't able to access the fields had to park there. Not a massive issue I know but a little more info on the condition of the site beforehand would have been helpful
Everything you could want for peace and calm
I had booked a grass pitch with hook up, but on arrival the grass pitches were too wet (you can’t do anything to mitigate constant rain) so I was given a HS pitch. The farm is perfect in its natural state, the toilets and hot showers are clean and better still the location is beautiful, oh and you can walk to the pub!!! The site was full but with a lovely atmosphere. Definitely one to revisit but for longer next time. Lanefoot Farm please don’t change a thing!
This is our second visit, the first approximately 10 years ago. On that occasion we were impressed by the cleanliness and facilities provided. 10 years on and I was still impressed by the overall cleanliness of the washing facilities and toilet areas. The staff are very helpful and friendly. They are happy to provide advice and will try to accommodate preferences. Covid guidelines are followed in all the indoor communal areas by staff and visitors. Facemasks, sanitizer and social distancing were observed. Our favourite aspect is the availability of fire pits and wood. It's great to find sites that enable you to have a full camping experience and that has to include a camp fire with S'mores! The only negative thing this time was the state of the upper camp field where we were given a pitch. The persistent rain had turned some of it into a quagmire. Apparently, the owners had previously cancelled bookings for this reason and visitors had complained that they were cancelling for a bit of bad weather. An email alert would have been helpful and given us the opportunity to cancel if we wanted to.
Quiet and relaxing
Lanefoot Farm is in a beautiful location near Braithwaite village and approximately 3 miles outside Keswick which is in walking distance. We were greeted on arrival and were given advice on the Covid-19 rules and then we were then taken to the field where we had a choice of pitches for our tent which were well spaced out. In the washing up room people wore masks and everyone was very considerate of each other. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we were able to buy logs for the the fire pit at night. Although we were right next to the road the traffic did not keep us awake at night and we did not have any problems with noise from other people. The toilets and showers were kept clean but there could be a wait at peak times to use the facilities. The walking was excellent with plenty of paths from the camp site and we will definately return to Lanefoot Farm.
Helpful staff and comfortable stay in a pod
We stayed in a pod which was comfortable and had everything we needed for a couple wanting to camp but have a bit of comfort and warmth too. The pod met all of our expectations and was immaculate. The site was well maintained and the toilets and showers were cleaned all of the time and were very clean. Pubs were a 15 minute walk along a lovely quiet lane which was perfect. One pub would only cater for those who have booked food and was fully booked. We enjoyed drink and food around the corner at another pub, hotel, restaurant. Excellent 3 days. Just wish we had less rain but I will add the fire pits helped with the relaxing evenings when the rain stopped.
Lovely relaxing place😀
This is a great spot for peace and quiet. Been here before so knew what to expect and we were not disappointed!! All showers and toilet areas clean and tidy.We stayed in the pod with the beds very comfortable mattresses. If you want lots of amusements, loud music and have rowdy kids this is NOT the place for you!!!!It's a great walk to Keswick and a great base to see the beautiful Lake District .
perfect break away
stunning peaceful location, and 5 min drive from Keswick! Staff were very friendly especially since we arrived without our tent pegs and the staff got us spare to help us out! Toilets, showers, dishwahsing all on site and very clean! Dog friendly as well! Perfect base for our break in the lake district will 100% be staying there again
Fabulous little spot!
We stayed here for four nights over the August bank holiday and it was a lovely little camp site. New and clean facilities! We chose to stay in a camping pod which was absolutely amazing, a modern alternative to camping! Greeted on arrival and explained the full Covid-19 rules, and we were shown to our pod. The campsite was busy but not over crowded, I never had to queue to use the facilities. Set in a lovely area away from the roads, we would definitely stay here again and we are recommending all of our friends too!
This camping location is just a stone's through from Keswick and the Newlands Valley and has the most stunning view of Skiddaw. The farm setting is idyllic--sheep grazing in undulating hills, a brook babbling through the site, a backdrop of greens all around. One of the few sites in the Lake District which allows open fires; owners sell wood and provide fire rings and grates. Although the rules state silence after 10pm, there wasn't a single night during our stay when this was enforced (for better or worse-- we love having music playing quietly in our tent in the evenings, but loud campers chatting past midnight do get tiresome). Despite a less tranquil experience than last year, we will always return because of the views and the access to town and footpaths. Every time we check out we wish we'd booked for longer. A few tips: - For light sleepers, bring ear plugs, as vehicles on the A66 can be heard through the night. - Recommend ground sheets and awnings in bad weather because the fields do get very soggy after heavy rains. Shower blocks and washing up area are cleaned multiple times a day so even in most muddy conditions the site feels clean. - The owners have instituted a few measures to prevent the spread of COVID; ensure you bring a mask.
Best trip ever
Hi my name is Daisy I am six years old and came with my mom and dad to Lanefoot farm for two weeks. And I also made lots of friends there. Plus I loved the view. And I was so excited when I saw the sheep get rounded into a diffrent field. And one last amazing thing about the farm is there were lots of animals you can play with.
The campsite is in a lovely location and was really peaceful despite being full. The showers and washing up facilities were great, despite there being only 3 showers it was never that busy and if you pick your time there were no queues. Ideally located with a short walk to the village for the pubs that had great food and beer. Catching the bus into Keswick was easy and cheap, a great alternative to driving and parking. Covid rules were posted around the site and very clear, it was a pleasure to stay there.
Fantastic place, fantastic hosts
We stayed here in early August 2020. Staff were incredibly helpful, from finding us a better pitch when we were not happy with the first one to lending us an extension cable and pulling us of the pitch when we got stuck after two days of non-stop rain (note - this was our own fault, we should have stuck with the hard standing we had booked). The toilets and facilitates were fastidiously clean and being cleaned at least three times per day, very reassuring in these covid times. Location is also great, right at the bottom of Grizedale forest, the Whinlatter pass and Grizedale pike and an easy stroll into Braithwaite and its shop and pubs. Much recommended.
Response from Lanefoot Farm
Thank you Justin for your kind words!. We are really glad that you enjoyed your stay with us and hope to see you again some time in the near future! :).
just had a lovely weekend stay here in our tent with a 2 yr old & 1 yr old, they loved it, just running & crawling around, feild was a bit muddy but it didn't stop them. Facilities were always clean. & lovely walk for dinner in the middle rudding , highly recommended. Would look at staying here again.
Amazing views . Great friendly camp site
We stayed at the camp site for two nights . Ive got a lwb transit, thats partly camperised . Parked on a grass pitch with electric hook up. BBQ and firepit one night . Its was so peaceful there . Enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay agsin . It could do with another couple of loos and showers . But the facilities are very very good 👍. Few local pubs for an evening meal within walking distance . And not far from Keswick. Loved the stay . Thanks guys
Lovely Lake District Campsite
The best thing about Lanefoot Farm is brilliant view. Stunning. Really clean facilities and the option of a camp fire also appreciated. We liked the short walk to Braithwaite and the local pubs and well stocked shop there. In the other direction Thornthwaite is a nice place to walk to with a lovely gallery and tea room. Dog friendly too, which was important to us. I would definitely recommend if you're looking for clean, no frills campsite with beautiful Lake District views and lots to do nearby.
The absolute best thing about this campsite are the really beautiful views-- truly majestic. It was 100% worth getting the campfire kit for £6. We went in the height of the season, so there were quite a few people on the site, but minus a few late-night stragglers, people really did abide by the quiet times post 10 pm (the sheep, however, did not! But we found that charming). We were only there for 2 nights and didn't end up using the shower facilities while we were there, but there weren't many available, and there definitely could have been more bathrooms for the number of people onsite. Nevertheless, we really enjoyed ourselves and would certainly consider coming back again next time we're in the Keswick area.
A lovely site in a lovely place
Great site and would possibly go again. They site is serious about no music and keeping things quiet during the quiet hours. The big possible down side is that the site only has 3 showers which were just sufficient for the reduced capacity during the pandemic, but in my opinion would be insufficient during normal busy times.
We have just finished a three night stay at Lanefoot Farm and we had a brilliant time. It’s a really well run, family friendly site which we would use again. The location is handy for Keswick and the village of Thornthwaite. Highly recommended!
Great camping trip
The location of this site is great, easy access to a lot of interesting walks and the site itself is brilliantly organised, super clean, tidy and well developed in light of the covid situation so we felt safe at all times. The facilities are excellent and the fire pits make the site look magical in the evening light. Would definitely recommend this site to anyone wanting a quiet break away!
Clean, beautiful area, tidy pitch, hard working staff, helpful
My partner William and I stayed at Lanefoot Farm for an adventurous 4 days exploring the wonders of the Lake District. Lanefoot Farm offered a clean, tidy, safe and beautiful base for us and we very much enjoyed our stay here and will visit again next time we come to the lakes!
Lanefoot farm ticked all our boxes for a perfect campsite. Warm showers and clean toilets and lovely view. Very welcoming to our 8 month old puppy learning about camping and perfect place for evening campfires. It’s in the heart of the Lake District, easy to get to and there is so much to explore nearby. Thank you for a lovely stay!
Beautiful peaceful de-stress
I love how quiet and peaceful it is and not too far from Keswick. The site is clean and compact with everything you need to chill out totally. I love that you can have a camp fire as it just makes it so nice and keeps you warm. It’s the second time I’ve been and it won’t be the last
I found the experience just perfect, besides for the weather! But to be honest I did not care, at all. I was there to write and I needed a quiet, tucked away corner, where to write and when I found myself not comfortable nor safe (to be honest) on the first pitch, I have been offered another space - which was really amazing - and help and support. As a woman travelling alone it felt safe and supervised, and that made my holiday even better. I adored the chickens roaming around! On top of this, everything else was clean, quiet, and the view stunning. So: thank you! I will definitely be back! I needed that silence!
Views, small and friendly, clean and COVID aware, helpful
Stayed for 2 nights to celebrate my and my husbands birthdays, excellent choice! The site is surrounded by beautiful views and is small enough to be friendly but with enough space to socially distance. The facilities were spotless and cleaned regularly. We particularly loved bring able to hire a fire pit which kept us cosy at night. There are lovely walks for all abilities within easy reach and 3 nice pubs a short walk away in Braithwaite village. I recommend this lovely site and hope to be back soon!
What a beautiful spot!
Fantastic little campsite with perfect facilities - everyone very friendly and accommodating and plenty of space to socially distance.
Excellent camp/caravan site in a beautiful setting.
Absolutely fantastic weekend spent at Lanefoot farm camping. We usually head towards the Langdales when we stay in the Lakes but due to restrictions and reduced availability due to covid etc, we decided to explore further. Found Lanefoot Farm online and booked through Coolcamping. So happy we did. The farm was easy to find and is in a fantastic area looked over by the slopes of Skiddaw. We were on an electric pitch in our campervan. The pitches are very informal, dotted around the site which is what we like, a mix of tents, vans, caravans and cosy pods/cabins. Facilities were clean, well appointed and open! At time of writing, a lot of sites have closed facilities. Short walk into Braithwaithe for village pubs, etc. 5 minutes drive into Keswick, or take a bus that passes the farm. We'll definitely be back 🙂.
Lovely camping spot
We stayed for a week and loved the experience. Communal areas were regularly being clean and desinfected and staff were always very helpful. Well located camping site within a walking distance from a few pubs. Great place to stay.
Clean, well-located campsite
We stayed at Lanefoot for 3 nights and found the campsite exactly what we were expecting. It was clean and tidy, with a warm shower block with 3 showers. The washing up area was also clean and tidy, along with the toilets. The surrounding views are lovely, with clear skies at night for star gazing and enjoying a fire. The location is superb- only 5 minutes drive from Keswick and a 10/15 minute walk to the nearest pub. The farm has a family feel to it, with animals all around and a general welcoming feel. We would definitely return.
Excellent, unfussy campsite
We have just returned from 4-days at Lanefoot and really can't fault it (October Half-term, 2019). We used one of the Family Pods to avoid the rain/cold and were very cosy at night (bring your own mats and sleeping bags). Fortunately there was very little rain and our kids (3-7yrs) absolutely loved the place. Very quiet and not busy when we visited. Facilities were clean, shop well stocked (including firewood and marshmallows) and the staff/owners were very friendly and welcoming. The Coldale Inn (10 minute walk up the lane) was particulary good after a hike up Skiddaw - sit by the fire with the dog and enjoy a pint of Theakston's. We will be returning and definitely recommend Lanefoot.
Lovely relaxing site
Just returned after a 4day break Luved how the sheep & chickens wander amongst the campers Very friendly owners Luvly clean well kept showers Luvly vase for walking & travelling to the lakes We walked into local village nd caught a bus to Keswick Had a great holiday & hope to return again
Great place, good facilities and a shop that stays open late for those last minute marshmallows or pint of milk. Never had any issues with hot water. ques for showers or dishwashing spots, etc. I'd definitely go again, it is the perfect base from which to explore the district. Only reason I've docked a star is that when it rains, not unheard of in the lakes, site turns into greasy mudpit. Needs a bit of work on the road though the tent site, a little more gravel perhaps? The amount of mud splatter on my car you'd think I'd been rallying!
Lovely dog friendly campsitr
I stayed for 3 nights in August and was really happy I stayed here. It's in a great location for exploring the northern part of the Lake district. The campsite is quiet and very dog friendly. It's within walking distance of a small village. The facility are good and kept extremely clean.
Super short break.
Lovely campsite within 10 mins drive of Derwentwater. Stayed in a pod and it was spot on. Lights, electric and heating. Fire pit in front of decking. Scenery is lovely. Facilities were great. Owner was very friendly but not in your face. Highly recommend and will be back next year.
We had a great time in our campervan over the august bank holiday weekend
Our first taste of camping/campervan. The site was in a great location, a short walk to Braithwaite village with a few pubs serving good food. The showers and toilets were spotlessly clean, the water always nice and hot. We would definitely recommend this site and hopefully will return n the future
Stayed 3 nights in the shepherd hut and it was really comfortable. The farm is peaceful with a no noise after 10pm which is great. We were lucky enough to have a beautiful clear night and the stars were amazing which makes you realise what you miss when living in a city. The staff were friendly nothing was too much bother. Perfect base to visit the lakes for the day. I can’t wait to go back planning it already.
Lovely Little Campsite
We just spent 3 fab nights at this lovely little site, our first adventure in a motorhome. Had a brilliant time, the site is in a beautiful setting, really friendly feel to it and quiet. We ate at Middle Ruddings (10 mins walk) and The Coledale Inn (15 mins walk) and had lovely tasty meals at both. The local shop in Braithwaite village is fabulous, had the best Cornish pasty.. mmm. I would really recommend this campsite, hopefully we will be returning in the near future.
Perfect location, basic facilities
A beautiful site, close to Keswick and with excellent access to walking and biking routes. You could cycle easily (up a steep hill!) to Whinlatter and have an excellent day mountain biking. Sheep and chickens in the field to keep us company. Facilities are very clean but pretty basic. We were there on a quieter mid week stay but was beginning to get busy by the weekend and there are only 3 showers and 3 ladies loos, so be prepared to queue. You need to be comfortable sharing close proximity with fellow campers here! Great wee shop and very helpful team when we needed to call out AA. We'll definitely be back.
Great when quiet, but gets over crowded
We stayed in a small 2 person tent in the non-electric hookup field. The first night (Thursday) was perfect - friendly service and a peaceful site shared with a handful of others. On the Friday night however, the field was extremely overcrowded by vehicles and large tents (in groups) which blocked access resulting in us being surrounded by cars and double parked. It would have been better if the site gave more guidance on where people should camp - especially those with huge tents.
Scenic, peaceful and relaxing
Once we arrived and were shown were to go we were left to our own devices. Got there and early and picked a good spot to pitch for a 2 night stay. Not far at all to get into Keswick and we also took a drive to Windermere , perfect weather for the day out. Great location, the views are fantastic. Thoroughly enjoyed and would stay here again!
Perfect View of Skiddaw
We arrived on a Sunday in June and stayed for 4 nights. For most of that time, we felt we had the upper field almost to ourselves-- there were at most 2 other tents while we were there. Such a nice change from the busy campsites we've been to! Although the shower block was small, we never had to wait for one and they were impeccably clean every morning. Best features: the most amazing view of Skiddaw from our tent, and the permission to have a proper wood campfire. The one drawback is the proximity to main roads and sporadic traffic noise. We eventually got used to this, as the sound of young lambs and wind through the trees were sometimes all you could hear. Easy access to footpaths. Shop on site had nearly everything for a full English: local eggs, bacon, sausage, beans, and plenty of wood to keep the fire going. Fresh bread and other sundries available in neighboring Braithwaite, which was an easy walk. One recommendation to the owners: please consider providing fire grates. It was a bit difficult making burgers on the fire without one. Thank you! Would definitely stay here again!
Wonderful views very peaceful stay
Owners very helpful. Very clean well kept site.
Awesome place, great location.
The facilities were spotless and ample. Exactly what I needed for my short stay. A great welcome from the owners and the shop had everything I would need if I was to stay longer. Which I shall be doing later in the year. The wake up call from all the farm animals was a great addition. Just brilliant.
We stayed one night at Lanefoot. It’s has beautiful views, a well maintained field and a very helpful owner. Would 100% recommend for anyone wanting a campsite in the Lake District. Will hopefully come back one day.
We had a stay at Lanefoot Farm in the camping pod over the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend, this was our first ever camping trip!! So our review...………. Just fabulous, we were greeted by a very friendly gentleman who showed us the site and walked us to the pod, not knowing what to expect I was just delighted. The campsite itself was Rustic and had great character, the showers and toilets were spotless all the time, the little shop had all the essentials you needed including the fire wood for the camp fire. The views were unbelievable with a little stream running past the Pod As we have never been to another site we have nothing to compare too however I would highly recommend this site to anyone and have, we had the best time. We are now converted to the camping life and we are already looking at booking again to this site.
One of the nicest campsites I have been to. Pitches are nicely spaced around a field with a stream and trees to give some shade. Owner very welcoming. Beautiful views and only a 20 min walk to Braithwaite, which has an excellent pub, the Colddale Inn. Book early though if you want to eat.
Response from Lanefoot Farm
Thank you Angus, really glad you enjoyed your stay with us and hope to see you again in the future :).
Had a great weekend here. Great location and very helpful hosts. Camping pod nice and clean on arrival and facilities well looked after.
Great campsite. Close to keswick and Whinlatter for us. We also like the facilities and the people who ran the site were there when you needed them, but left you alone when you were on site relaxing.
Brilliant site in Keswick near all the hills you would care to climb and a few minutes drive into Keswick itself. In walking distance of Whinlatter Forest, up steepish bridleway, with its trails for walking and cycling or a couple of minutes in the car. Quiet site with enclosing hedges to keep the breeze to a minimum. Loved the fact you can have a campfire- brilliant for warming after a long walk and of course for your marshmallows! Enough showers, toilets and washing up facilities so we were never kept waiting long (this was over the Bank Holiday so no mean feat!) Owners were polite and helpful when needed, with good knowledge of area and routes, but with no interference when not. Little shop on site had emergency stocks if needed and excellently priced wood for your fire. Plenty of space round each pitch so never felt on top of anyone else and because of the different levels you were not sitting next to others. This is a beautiful site in a beautiful area where I am sure we will return to.
Response from Lanefoot Farm
We are really pleased that you emjoyed your stay.
Thank you very much for taking the time to write your review of our campsite.
We really appreciate it.
Hope to see you again.

Great farm campsite
Just back from 5 nights here, it's a million times better than the big Club sites that we've stayed in, the facilities are limited but just enough for this nice small site. Perfect location 5 minutes drive from Keswick. They are also really casual about the size of your pitch which for us was perfect. The kids loved the sheep, lambs and chickens on the site. Also great walks from the site.
Response from Lanefoot Farm
Thank you very much for your review of our campsite.
We are really pleased that you enjoyed your stay, and that you appreciated our location.
We hope to see you again.

Rustic traditional campsite
Just come back from a lovely stay at this site had two nights with mixed weather. Ten minute walk from two pubs and shops. Limited showers and toilets but clean and tidy anyway. Let you have open fires and the owners are friendly. Well worth a short or long stay in my opinion
Nice location, very near Whinlatter forest
Nice location campsite, very close to whinlatter which is great for mountain biking. Negative: very noisy chickens in the morning!
The pitch we were given was great, beautiful views of the hills, just a short walk to the toilets and showers etc, little village shop and pubs 15mins walk away. The on sight shop was very basic, only used it for the logs for the fire pit (absolutely love that they allow open fires, you do have to buy their logs tho, tho nobody came round to police it). The staff weren't overly chatty, the lady who checked us in wasn't even aware we had booked. But she found us a good pitch and gave us all the information about the site and local area that we could have needed. Overall really quite pleased with the site! ☺
Perfect peaceful campsite
We stayed at Lanefoot Farm for 3 nights this last weekend and what a lovely campsite. We stayed in the Shepherds hut which had a bit of a secluded area which was perfect for us and our dog. It's within walking distance of Braithwaite which has a lovely pub which is dog friendly and a great village shop. The walks from the campsite are really pretty with paths leading to Keswick and surrounding villages. Would thoroughly recommend and would go back to explore some more.
Fantastic views very relaxed and friendly
We loved our stay at Lanefoot, great views, great location, friendly staff, booked through cool camping but no booking once we arrived but that didn’t matter there was plenty of room. Good clean hot showers great family break definitely recommend
Had an incredible bank holiday weekend here with some friends. Campsite is in a great location, short drive to keswick and access to the hills with wonderful views of Skiddaw. Relaxed owners made it an even better stay. I'd highly recommend this site.
We stayed in the Shephards hut and it was brilliant. Great facilities on site including a small shop. Close to a lively local pub and village.
We had a wonderful time at Lanefoot Farm. We had a warm welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Our site had amazing views and the little shop was well stocked with everything you may need. My kids loved the chickens walking around and they were so friendly. Courtesy of the rain our car got stuck in the mud. The owner was incredibly helpful and came and pulled us out. We loved our time there and look forward to our next stay.
Positive: easy access from other parts of the country because it's just off the A66. Negative: a fair bit of traffic noise from the A66, so it would be hard to convince yourself you were in the middle of a tranquil nowhere. However, the views from the site are fine. The main toilet/washing facilities are in part of the 16th century farmhouse, and the building needs some serious refurbishment. I can see it's particularly difficult to keep a higgledy-piggledy building like this looking clean, but they could definitely try harder. I can also imagine the facilities are overstretched in high season, and they're a long way from the top camping field (which isn't very level and has lots of damp sections). The area with electric hook-ups looked far more attractive. There are numerous chickens roaming in the field - cute at first, but they have developed a fine nose for any food that's being prepared, and are very difficult to chase off - became a real pest. It was OK for 2 nights (particularly because the weather was fabulous), but I won't be rushing back.
We stayed at Lanefoot Farm in August, so it was full, but it didn't feel overcrowded and we rarely had to queue to use the facilities which were clean and plentiful. It was useful to have the small shop on site, stocking logs, bread, ice creams etc and we have happy memories of sitting around the campfire overlooking Skiddaw. It was lovely to be on a working farm with sheep, hens and the sweetest little chicks wandering around the camping field. A big plus is that although Lanefoot feels like it's in the middle of nowhere, it's close to the main road. We didn't need to move our campervan once we'd parked up as we could get around by bus or on our bikes - it was an easy bike ride in to Keswick for all the family. Braithwaite is a short walk away where there were several pubs and an excellent village shop. In summary, a fantastic campsite in a wonderful location.
My husband and I took our vintage VW on her first camping trip (with us) to Lanefoot Farm for a long weekend. It was actually just about perfect in every way---the owners are delightful, the setting fabulous, and facilities very clean. The big extras are wonderful hill walking from the campsite, pubs with great food and Braithwaite village a short stroll up the lane, and finally, wonderful campfires in the evening. We will definately return.
Wet stay but still good.
Excellent campsite. Stunning scenery and a short walk to a wonderful pub. Open fires actively encouraged and very good facilities. An on site shop caters for basic needs and campfire wood is also sold. Good walks around about. Will definitely be staying again, hopefully soon.
We have just spent 3 nights at Lanefoot in the lovely shephards hut. The perfect camping spot...camp fires, heated floors in the shower room, dog friendly, a little shop, amazing views and a very friendly welcome. We even had some sunshine - We will definitely be coming back!
Nice Stay-Friendly Site
This is a well positioned site for walking/cycling set with Skiddaw and Grisedale Pike surrounding.Camp fires allowed and large bag of logs about a £5 but would last a few nights. Small shop for some basics, but Keswick 2.5 miles. Amenities are a bit basic as farm camp site but include showers, toilets and drying room, which is god send. I found staff very friendly and helpful. All in all a great little site I would re-visit again.
Lanefoot Farm - Keswick
My husband and I stayed here in July 2013. It was our first proper camping trip and although the facilities were basic you couldn't fault them. We stayed in the main field which has a stunning view of the mountains. The showers were clean and hot if a little busy at times. The shop is well stocked in case you have forgotten any supplies but it is only a short drive into Keswick if you need anything more. This place is a great base for exploring the Lakes and campfires are allowed.
Lanefoot Farm: unspoilt countryside; spoilt, happy campers
Approaching my 40s, my ideal campsite will offer a perfect balance of nature and subtle pampering. On the nature front, Lanefoot Farm's open field gets full marks with its gently sloping field giving views beyond the hedge that hides the quiet access road and over the tranquil Bassenthwaite valley. My wife is less driven to the hills, let alone to staying in them overnight under canvass so once we'd pitched our tent above the slope in lovely soft, near-level ground, the sight of the owners' daughter approaching with a wheel-barrow twice her size, laden with the hub of an old tractor tyre and logs to burn, was a welcome and warming one. Even from 50 yards, we could sense an element of modest pride to her work so we didn't rush to help. . . . or maybe that was because we were a bit busy, slicing lemon for the G&T. The fire blazed, we ate well, and were kept good and warm this cold May evening. And in the morning, limbs stiffened by a slowly leaking air-bed, our short journey to the shower block brought the unexpected treat of underfloor heating to complement the powerful showers. Behind the block, I could see small pitches amid more cultivated, shaded gardens, whose idyllic grounds were being supervised by some haughty chickens. The owners run a busy farm but their attention to their guests is somehow still equal to this work. Ding a bell and the small but well-stocked shop will be attended. I had a craving for marmalade, they had some and the pampering continued.
By coincidence, my wife got a job in Keswick a year later - a surprisingly quick and level stretch of cycle-path away. It being early April this time, we though we might try a few nights in the full luxury of Lanefoot farm and opt for their barn-converted studio flat at only £50/night. This was self-catering at such great value that you sort of want to keep it a secret. Mind your head on the beams, though and get to bed early or with super-strength ear-plugs in respect for the Cockerel who likes to give good advance warning of the approaching dawn. Next time we go, we'll try the third, in-between option of a shepherd's hut. With a second camping field of marked-out pitches, upping the capacity to cater for the summer throngs - allowing for that ever-more rare Lake District opportunity of a late booking - it's safe to say that Lanefoot Farm offers accommodation for all budgets and tastes. It's all done with quiet and friendly efficiency, attention to detail and high standards of upkeep. Go there! It's great!
Stayed in the Shepherd's Hut here last summer and couldn't fault it! The hut was gorgeous, we had our own private area so we didn't feel over looked by other campers. The fact you can have a camp fire is great - the only downside is the wood is quite expensive and you will burn through a bag a night.
The campsite is in a great location, only a 5 minute drive away from Keswick and the lovely Derwent Water (lovely to walk around, and also highly recommend the rowing boats and the evening boat cruise - with free wine!). It's also within walking distance of Whinlatter Forest which is huge, we could have spent days just walking around there. There are a number of pubs within easy walking distance, as well as a local shop.
The facilities on site are exactly as you'd expect - a small shop, lovely new washroom and luxury showers (unfortunately not enough so I did have to queue but they've done what they can with the existing space). The toilets could do with updating, but as they are in an old farm building they are perfectly sufficient.
Really great campsite and good value for money, highly recommend!
Great campsite, good facilities, friendly owners.
Great campsite. We were shown a few areas to choose from and chose pitches in the back garden area near the facilities.
Facilities were clean and good - hot water in the washing up area, strong & hot showers, toilets clean with toilet paper and soap (although no hot water so needed to go to the sink by the showers to get that). It would have been good to have a normal & recycling bin near the main house as we didn't see any except a food one in the washing up area and in the toilets and had to walk around to the barn. Only a short walk though.
The owners were friendly and happy to help with slightly less usual requests e.g. Chilling our wine! I think opening hours displayed at the shop would be helpful. The owners come when the bell rings but I would have felt better doing that if I had known that they were not right in the middle of dinner or something.
The location is good - pubs are walkable and it's close enough to the main road to be easily accessible without experiencing traffic noise. The area felt safe. It doesn't have a direct lake view (but that's hardly the site's fault!)
Our 2-year old loved the chickens! Overall we enjoyed our stay - thank you.
Pretty Perfect in everyway
My Fiancee and I along with our young Vizsla dog have just returned from the bank holiday camping trip to Keswick and to say we've loved every minute is a bit of an understatement. If you're lucky enough to come across Lanefoot Farm you need not look any further for a wonderful campsite. The owners are lovely, the site is very friendly and welcoming and the campfires are just the icing on the cake. Its also a working farm so the roaming hens with their chicks, the pony in the field and surrounding sheep just add to the amazing experience.
We didn't manage to get booked on a site prior to arrival but having called and begged the owners at Lanefoot several times over we were told to turn up on the Saturday morning to see if there would be space for us. When we arrived we were lucky enough to get a pitch (thanks to some that had cancelled the night before). The site was busy - but this was to be expected with every site in the lakes August bank holiday - during our trip into Keswick we couldn't get moved so you can imagine how ever site was the same this bank holiday. Despite the volume of people we still had plenty of space to pitch our rather large tent and the site is in a beautiful spot. The facilities are well maintained, always clean and although theres only 3 showers we never queued once. The site seems to attract like minded campers, families, sensible couples, and small groups - all mixing together and enjoying the site - it was fabulous. I can't stress enough how lovely this site is we will 100% be returning next year. Thank you Lanefoot for a wonderful weekend xx
Lovely site, too many people
We had a lovely stay at this campsite. It is in a beautiful spot and the facilities are great - the campfires are a very nice touch. The two small camping areas looked delightful.
However, the main field where we camped (due to arriving at 6pm on a Friday and not having much choice) was very very busy and it was hard to find a place to set up, let alone a spot with any privacy, despite the fact that we thought we had booked specific pitches. It seemed a shame to be so crammed in when the rest of the site looked so nice, and reminded me a bit of camping at a festival, though maybe I have just been spoilt by the campsites I have stayed at before. Perhaps this is just what I should have expected from a campsite during the summer holidays, but I had got the impression from the website that the owners would limit numbers.
Overall, a good experience, and I would stay here again, though not in July or August!
We stayed at Lanefoot farm for 4 nights in April and it was lovely. The roaming chickens provided us with entertainment and you could buy there eggs on the farm too, which were delicious! We had lovely surrounding views, and it was nicely sheltered.
There was excellent access to footpaths and bridleways from the farm, and it was a short drive from keswick, dodd wood, bassenthwaite lake, etc.
I have to say the underfloor heating in the shower area was a god-send too as it was pretty chilly at the time and I could nip into the cubicle with just a sink in the morning and it would warm me from the feet up!!!
A really fantastic family campsite. We stayed there at the begining of September 2011, for three nights camping with two small children.
Facilities were very clean and worked well (i.e. HOT showers with good pressure). The children loved the chickens and it was great to have a fire next to the tent.
Not really a down side, but we stayed in the large field which became quite difficult to navigate in a car after two days heavy rain and was also further away from the toilets etc. With younger children we may have been better off in the 'garden' field closer to the facilities.
But that said, we had a great time, the cost was very reasonable, and the owner very friendly.
Lovely lovely little campsite.
Perfectly placed, feels in the middle of nowhere, but only 5 minutes drive to civilisation. Close to gorgeous Keswick.
My children especially just loved the little shop.
Toilet, showers and dishwash area are immaculate and very quirky.
I loved the big map in the corridor.
A very sweet little cat roaming about.
Free range chicken pecking past the tent area real novelty.
Firewood delivered to your tent daily (sometimes with the girls singing in the back of the truck) is a massive bonus.
All in all, very sweet, quirky and clean campsite.
My only negative point would be.... if I were the owners, I would make the pitching more structured - tent / car / tent / car... round the outside of the field, leaving the middle of the field free for play. That was the only aspect my children missed. Plus, just making the pitches slightly more structured - even by putting the fires in permanent positions to pitch at? would mean there would be room to play, while not losing any pitching space, actually it would create room.
That said - we loved our visit, and will be visiting again soon.
